Big downfall with a cockatiels is they poop every five minutes, otherwise they’re adorable. I prefer larger parrots as they seem to understand that it’s not nice to poop on you.
Yeah, they poop a lot, but I feel like it is less than a pigeon. Only downside, is that their poop isn’t as easy to clean, and since mine likes to sit on my head or shoulder, it’s annoying when she poops on me.
While my cockatiel does poop when he wants, he won’t poop on me. For example, he likes to chill on my forearm while the fan blows on him. He loves how it feels on his top feathers. But he will make it a point to actually move and not poop on me. So now, I keep a paper towel under my forearm, so he can poop on that instead of the arm of the couch. As far as picking it up? Yeah, need to be careful with that. Hence the paper towel. :) Also, he won’t go to anyone else in my house. Just me, for some reason. He’s 3 and we’ve had him since he was a baby and had formula around his beak feathers.
Interesting, we have 3. 2 are siblings and 1 is a rescue. We have owned 5 and had 2 fly aways, 1 recovered. Free range, so uncaged. . Nothing I have heard is incorrect, . Petting, not easy, bathing, when they want to. Yes they Mult alot, sometimes appear to explode. Which was funny as a guest mentioned that "I think your bird just exploded" He didn't. but it was funny. Very good video, and a great bird to own. Talking, not so much, they will sing. What I learned, they decide what song they like. Messy, destructive yes, very true. But I'll take the bird over the dog +
Hahaha, I never heard such a thing about the bird “exploding”! It’s wonderful that you are able to keep your birds free range. I hope to be able to do that someday when I have the space and don’t have to worry about sharing a place with cats!
@@BubblyPetz1 The exploding bird was just funny, he shook and sent feathers everywhere, my Daughter in Law said I think your bird just exploded, just a funny bit. We did recently rescue a cat, so we understand that part,. She has a new home now and our birds are still running around, the house. I really do appreciate the reply. I will subscribe and look for more info. I can't say that I know birds, but I do love them. Alot of good information
great video! i’m rescuing my dad’s cockatiel this saturday bc he’s turning 75 & can’t take care of him anymore - i have asthma though - now i’m worried about the “dusty” part of it. any suggestions? ty for your time in advance! 🙏💚
I would recommend that you get a good quality air purifier and make sure that you are providing bathing water often for the bird. Opening your windows frequently to let in the fresh air may also help, but I’m not too sure if any allergens that may blow in would trigger your asthma. Other than that, I would make sure to regularly clean the area that you keep the cage and wherever the bird likes to hangout at to keep the dust to a minimum.
Thanks, is it true that when they get used to /bonded with their owners, they can no longer form relationships with their own kind and thus never mate?
It is not true. This is going based on how pigeons are known to be monogamous, but there have definitely been cases of them cheating. If they’ve formed a bond with their owner, then they are unlikely to bond with another pigeon unless the situation pushes them to do so, they can learn to get along with another pigeon while being bonded to their owner but usually won’t pair bond.
@@amortalbeing A cockatiel that is bonded to their owner can still get along with others of their own kind but won’t breed. If you make them into a breeder, then they will become wilder and not as tame as they will have bonded to their mate.
@@BubblyPetz1 Thanks a lot really appreciate it. how can we force it to become a breeder? I want him to have a normal life you know! a mate, kids, etc. Hes too attached to my brother, needs to be next to him where ever he goes, wont eat unless hes around. hes gone nuts!
@@amortalbeing You have to get him a mate and have your brother spend a lot less time with the bird. Feed them a proper diet and provide a nest with nesting material during the right seasons.
Conures are able to produce a louder call then cockatiels. Sexing cockatiels depends on the color variation. In the wild types, the males will have a brighter orange cheek patch and more yellow on the head. The females will look duller. Typically males will mimic, sing, and be noisier than females.
@BubblyPetz1 k bc its like I believe destiny that this silver cocktail at petsmart still there. Was there before my surgery in September and still there. It's like to mean a sign it was meant to be and all.
"If your gonna get any pet,you should think about it for awhile, what kind of pet,how much care, and if you dedicated to assuming those responsibilities,AND how long your pet is likely to be in your life...Cockatiels don't live as long as larger parrots/ birds, but still longer than a dog,or a cat. These birds are gonna be a 20+ year commitment. That said, I have had a male (Kiwi) and a female (Sunny) Cockatiels and would recommend them as a pet! They need TLC for sure, but Hey,no litterbox cleaning,( birds poop is much smaller, and don't have much odor!) Dogs, letting them in/ out, walks, and cleaning up the yard after them...pros and cons with Cockatiels, but I think their worth it!"👍♥️

So how do u tell male from female cockatiels? I have a book I got a long time a go and read it. Also are they louder than say a conure parrot.
