question: does owning a dove works same as with cats? Last saturday a chill, black and white pigeon landed on my balcony, followed me inside, slept inside,.... We´re day 4 now and the fellow is settled in 🙂
Informative video for which I’m thankful but good grief, it got so incredibly annoying listening to you finish every sentence with your voice pitching up high instead of dropping your intonation as the vast majority of people normally do.
@@CowboyRob1960 Sorry, I’ll do better in the future. Thanks for watching though.
have you ever tried to tame down a senior pigeon?
@@cubansandwhich06 No, all the pigeons I did get were young adults. I’m sure it’s still possible to tame one, it would just take longer and lots of consistency.
Funny that pigeons are exotic now since they used to be so quintessential to humans. We did pigeons dirty by casting them to the streets and labelling them rats with wings.
@@CAMSLAYER13 Yeah, I never understood people calling them that.
Beautiful babies! I'm also breeding pet pigeons, and I prefer crossbreeds too - they tend to be healthier and live longer. Loft keepers might not like them, but that's optimal for pets. By the way, pigeon "milk" is not really crushed seeds - just like mammal milk is not liquified adult food. It's literally produced inside the crops, sometimes mixed with seeds that they eat, but in the essence it's pigeon's own protein and fat that they produce. And btw i also co-parent babies with their parents. Some fully isolate them from parents around 2-3 weeks old, but i don't think that's necessary. They still grow up tame as long as they interact with humans every day. It's more important what happens between 3 weeks and 2 months - that's when babies can turn less friendly if they interact with adult birds a lot. So it's best to keep them in separate cages and only let them fly together couple times a day, and most of the time they should see people close to them.
Also the baby with black feathers is likely a female and the red one is male. That's because the only way the baby could inherit red is from mom, but only boys inherit two copies of base color. Girls take color from dad only, and he can't have any ash red, since it's dominant and he'd show it. Take a closer look at the red one's tail: if there's any black markings, then it's 100% het ash red + black male.
@@LoneIrbis Yeah, I seen some people saying they wouldn’t be or stay tame, but so far they are still tame, allow pets, and are well tempered. I still interacted with them daily, and the one I gave away is doing well and is still tame with the new owner.
@@LoneIrbis I didn’t know this! This is very helpful, and that baby does actually have a black spot on one of its tail feathers. I have seen it cooing and acting like a boy, so I think you are right!
@@BubblyPetz1 I raised over 40 pet pigeons in past 4 years, and most of them stay tame as long as their new owners keep interacting with them. Their personality is forming until around 3 months mark, after that they're either pets or not, so just make sure they are spending most of their time with humans until they're 2-3 months old. First month doesn't even matter all that much, maybe last week or so. And yeah, a black spot and cooing = definitely a boy :D

Happy new year Aila!! Hope you and the pets are well! I've also hatched a few babies myself. It's a process, but it's fun and cute! I have a few clips of my baby pigeons on my page. Super cute. Hope your babies grow up strong! ❤
Thank you, happy new year! Pet’s and I are good. The babies have definitely been a learning process for me, but it has been quite rewarding! Your babies are cuties too! I hope you are also doing well!
Well, bubbly, it looks like it's going to take a lot of time to tame this way. I have had pigeons all my life. My breeds are Canadain and Pakistani tipplers, white homers, Polish highflyers, and Egyptian swifts. Egyptian swifts are very unique. But a very nice investment and rehabilitation of your time.
Wow, you keep a lot of pigeons! I think it’s really cool that you’ve grown up raising them and have that experience and knowledge.
Well Bubbly you are very inspirational. So it seems that you have the Midas touch for what you do. And I thank you for having an alternative way of keeping these beautiful birds. As our flying and showing sport is dying out. I would love to meet you one day.
This is exactly what not to do. Silicone doesn't stick to silicone, first you need to remove the old and replace. Second, I would never trust my fish in a tank that has a crack. Too risky for the amount I pay for the fish. Just my thought so you don't fail in the future!
Thanks for the advice! Luckily, so far, I haven’t had any issues with this tank.
Hey, I just wanted to say you did a great video. I am sitting with a friend of mine I own two Quaker parrots and one African gray. I am totally blind and spend all my time with the birds however, a lady friend of mine is here and is interested in getting her own bird and I was suggesting that this is a great bird to start with if you are committed enough and she said to tell you, this was a great video and we really loved it not only because of the information but I think you did a great job being honest with people because I can tell you with my three birds they get jealous of each other and I have to spend an enormous amount of time. They are my companions. My wife died five years ago and when she died, the birds actually went through a terrible depression. You would not have believed it. I have raised two children, and I can tell you these birds in some ways are more work than my kids were but I love them for it. I would have a couple of penguins if they would let me too lol either way, thank you so much and again keep being honest in your videos because people do not need to get these birds And then not want them and that happens so frequently and they live a long life. There’s just no reason for them to have to suffer or be killed and cigarette smokers. Please do not smoke around your birds. If you are reading my comment enjoy and love your bird no smoking thank you. 7:27

Pigeons are not for in house or as apartment pets they thrive in an open screened coop with enough room to fly from one end to another
While that is an ideal setup, you can still provide indoor pigeons with that type of space to fly too. You can take the indoor ones outside for sunlight or open windows to let sunlight in. You can also open windows and use an air purifier for them to have fresh air. I don’t think it is bad to have an indoor pet pigeon as long as you can provide the things that the outdoor ones would get.
So how do u tell male from female cockatiels? I have a book I got a long time a go and read it. Also are they louder than say a conure parrot.
Conures are able to produce a louder call then cockatiels. Sexing cockatiels depends on the color variation. In the wild types, the males will have a brighter orange cheek patch and more yellow on the head. The females will look duller. Typically males will mimic, sing, and be noisier than females.
@BubblyPetz1 k bc its like I believe destiny that this silver cocktail at petsmart still there. Was there before my surgery in September and still there. It's like to mean a sign it was meant to be and all.
@BubblyPetz1 I'm just been hearing u need them to be a pair if u not going to be there to occupy them.
@@badams83 Yeah, they are very social and will be lonely without a companion- either you or another bird.

OMG his little boots!
I got my pigeon 4 days ago! And he's really warming up, stepping onto my hand, allowing me to handle him and everything, he preens and is very relaxed infront of me, but he's in the cage right, so yesterday I thought it was time, a bit too fast but I had a lot of hope so I let him go ( in my room ) and I let him fly around, but I held food in my hand and he didn't wanna take it, I tried to reach out and hold him but he flew away :( I put him back in the cage and he still gets on my hand and everything, he was raised in a coop.
@@Cassidy-v2h My one pigeon was very cautious and flighty and didn’t tame very easily or quickly. I’m pretty sure it’s due to him being raised in a coop and not getting much human interaction. He’s a lot better now, but still will grunt at me sometimes and run/fly away if I try to reach at him. At least, yours is willing to hop on your hands if you put them in the cage. It just takes a lot of time, consistency, and even training to get certain individuals to become tame and trusting.
I've just purchased a large amount of black and red cricket eggs in a coconut medium (I'm in Thailand). I'm looking at breeding them for my chickens/fish and want to get as much eggs laid from the adults before I harvest the crickets for feed. How many times or for how long do the adults lay eggs or does this vary depending on the breed of crickets? I was going to feed the crickets high protein chicken feed as well as vegetables.
@@Boyeaton1 It depends on the species. The black ones lay eggs throughout their adult lifespan but the red ones usually die after laying eggs. The food choice is good. I would just make sure you are providing egg laying substrate to the crickets as soon as you notice them chirping/reaching adult size to collect as much eggs as possible.

Superworms vs isopods? who wins
@@JarMaster Depends what you are using them for. Are you using them as like a “cleanup crew” in a bioactive terrarium or as a food source?
@@BubblyPetz1 Oh no, i meant in a fight xD

Hello, I was wondering if a pigeon will poop everywhere if I let it free roam, and is it hard to clean off? Sorry for the inconvenience!
@@Drawithme-wp1pu Hi, yes, the pigeon will poop wherever, but usually, most of it will be around their favorite perching spots. There is such a thing as pigeon pants that you can look into to help with the mess, but it can be troublesome having to change it every couple of hours. As long as your bird is healthy and well-fed, the poop will be pretty solid and very easy to clean off of surfaces!
@@BubblyPetz1 tysm!!
My pigeon doesn’t have a cage only 2 small houses.
@@ImmaBirdYaretzi Thanks for watching. My pigeons don’t have cages either and are just free roam. They have a designated food/water area and a spot with a bed as their “home base.”
great video! but i personally dont recommend paper bedding for rodents, except in small amounts as nesting and bedding material. its not actually as absorbent as you'd think, which can cause ammonia to build up faster. instead safe woods like aspen and kin dried pine, as well as pine pellets are a better choice for the majority of the bedding
@@meatlemonade3338Thanks for watching! I only had a couple of mice in the beginning which I used paper bedding for. I switched over to pine pellets shortly after just due to the price, so I never had the experience to compare the paper to wood bedding in terms of absorbency and smell with a full colony.

Thanks for the informational video! I learned a lot! I recently acquired a racing pigeon that was eating at my bird feeders, couldn't fly (probably exhausted, but can fly now), and the owner didn't register it so I have no way to return him. I've decided to keep him/her. He just recieved a clean bill of health from the vet, and is actually really healthy. I can only have him indoors, but I have in a 48x28x31 size cage. Built a perch for him also. I currently have him by a window that if he does not want to look out or needs to get out of the sun, he can do so. My question is, will placing him near the window so he can look out affect how I bond with him? Thank you!
@@doriandunham7998 Hi, it’s great that were able to take him in! Putting him near the window should not affect bonding at all since he is the only pigeon you have indoors.

Hi @BubblyPetz1, I need advise. Recently I found wild pigeon outside struggling to eat food in the 40 degree Celsius heat. Found a box grabbed her, she didn’t resist much and brought her to the vet. Vet said she has cankers which is common in pigeons and will take time to heal. Due to cankers her lower beak was sideways that’s why she couldn’t grab food. Left in the vet for 12 days, cankers removed but her lower beak still sideways. She is second day with me trying to hand feed her. I need advice. Please if anyone knows how many times a day to give her food and water? That’s a main concern. She is in the box, sometimes trying to fly and once fed she is quite 😂. She is more active compared to when I found her. She doesn’t resist much when I try to pet her but feeding time she is resisting little but then she calms down and hand feed her. Is it ok to keep her in the box or should I get cage? If I release her she won’t survive coz she can’t eat on her own. Sorry for long explanation, any advice helps. Thx. By the way loved your video 😊
@@NoobNiteMobile Hi, for feeding, I would recommend 2-3 meals a day, but for water I’m not totally sure. I’d probably give water after every meal. My pigeon drinks about 1/4 cup water each day, so I’d probably space that amount out for your bird. Is she really unable to drink water by herself? Have you tried offering a bowl of water and dipping her beak into it? I think she should still be able to drink even if her beak is crooked.
@@NoobNiteMobile I’d get her a bigger cage to be in too if you can get her drink on her own. I probably wouldn’t do too massive of a cage, though, because she might get stressed out trying to escape whenever you have to catch her for feeding.
@@BubblyPetz1 thank you very much. I’m feeding her morning and evening. Today 3rd day she is with me. About feeding if you can advice quantity that would be nice. When I feed her she sees the food and tries to eat but can’t grab. About water I’m using syringe but I’ll put water near her. Let’s see if I can catch her trying to drink water. About cage I’ll get her smaller one as you suggested. Till then she is in the box. Thanks again.
@@NoobNiteMobile About a tablespoon of seed per feeding.
