I saw them at the same time, for the 1st time, in San Francisco, the 30th anniversary tour of the Sonic Temple album release. My brother was so jealous. It's his favorite band.
Duffy’s simplicity really makes him shine. Brilliant player
Simplicity certainly as far as the notes taken across the neck, not doing wild arpeggiated runs like other guitarists from the era, BUT his bends and flow make his stuff really unique. It veers into the surreal almost reminiscent of stuff you'll hear in eastern music. Totally brilliant indeed!
I'm fairly sure he could use a two string guitar. His style of using one string and playing up and down the neck is quite unique but very effective
@@stevec6427 he could easily be in Presidents Of The USA then 👍
As a guitarist, I'm really impressed with him, having just watched two live shows this weekend; one from 1987 and one from May this year.
@@sgt.thundercok4704 Me too! I just discovered the C add 9 chord in "Sweet Soul Sister". It's that third chord in the verse that sounds AMAZING.
It goes A maj - D maj - Cadd9. He leaves his finger on the D on the B string (from the D chord), [which is the 9 (or 2)] when he changes to the C maj. Sounds amazing.
It sounds more impressive on the recording because of the quality, but the chord occurs in this video at 3:49 & 3:59
I've never heard an add 9 chord in a rock song before (well, I probably have in a Queensryche or Rush song, but it's not common).
I just want to thank the person that gave up his time and enjoyment of watching and participating in the show to FILM or TAPE the show. This person did an awesome job with the camera.
Daves Delta thanks , they’re such special moments that I enjoy living them again and sharing
His vocals are spot on!🤙
Brilliant
@@marcelonic1 just noticed you have the names of the songs as they’re being played. Really great job!
Hell yes he or she did. Totally concur
Ian's voice is alot better than a few years ago when we saw them.
They were just getting going again.
Sound great now!
Billy Duffy is one of the greatest guitar player of all time!!! Grow up with their fantastic sound!!! God bless The Cult!!!
Grown up
@@hazelwray4184 lol, or Grew up.....
Criminally underestimated.
It's good to see them still performing. The Cult is probably the most underrated band in Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.
for sure
Como é o nome da primeira música??
@@julianoteixera714 American Horse.
Definitely. "Black Sheep" was barely a blip when came out, and to this day, it's in my top 5 all-time albums.
Eles copiam.muito Aerosmith ,The Doors , eles tbm tem uma influência de grunge
THE CULT toured AUSTRALIA in 2013.
They played the entire ELECTRIC album.
They played it in the track listing of the album.
Then they played other 'Hit" songs.
Just about everybody knew that the last song was going to be SUN KING.
The atmosphere was palpable.
You could say it was ELECTRIC.
Not "Sanctuary" then?
I have been a heavy metal rock fan for 50 years and love Iron Maiden, Led Zep, AC/DC and others but NOBODY plays the guitar as good as Billy. His skill and talent is phenomenal and he just hits the bulls eye on every track in this fantastic concert. ROCK ON Billy lad you are a genius.
Billy Duffy is just effortlessly cool. The guitar player's guitar player.
nicely put ;)
Agree. Very cool dude and exceptional guitarist.
yeah, they are sounding great, but most of these songs are 30 years old, he better know how to play the songs, I have always loved these guys.
He defiantly broke the coolness meter!
Amen Brother 👍🤘😜🤘
THE CULT amongs the best of the best.
Billy is a sensational guitarist! Doesn't skip a beat and never looks hurried.
THE CULT FOREVER!🖤🔥🌹
Billy's just doin his thing! Most underrated band ever!
The Cult are not underrated. Ironically you're the one who's underrating them by saying they're underrated.
Going to rhe show in St Petersburg Fl. This will be my 14th time seeing them live. Started in San Diego, military giy,
God they are terrible…I mean the music is, the songs are terrible. They can play but my god the songs rubbish.
@@cinemar Pls stop. You are missing the point, ironically.
No point has been made.@@Marshall_Stacks
A pure RnR band ! Hats off to The Cult. I was fan in the '80s ............ still now !!
Sicuramente una tra le prime tre Band piu sottovalutate nel panorama rock degli ultimi 40 anni
I still swoon over Ian and Duffy. Neither of them have lost their touch. 🙏♥️
They finally have enough musicians are comfortable enough on stage. A very special time in the Cult's existence.
One of my favorite Hardrock Bands of all times! ... Impeccable Rock 'n Roll Greatness!
One of the best voices in rock and such great raw rock n' roll guitar
Awesome. Band. Ian & Billy forever. The Cult has a groove about them that just subliminally seeps into your psyche. I love it…
Yeah. Love watching Duffy. From the gitaringly humble beginnings of ‘ Dream time ‘ through the simple tho’ tasteful ‘ Love ‘, the challenge of ‘Electric ‘ to the perfect synthesis of ‘Sonic Temple ‘. A. Mighty Guitar God was born from the thigh of a wolf, full strumming ! Thanks for the music.
There’s hundreds of bands I love and like and respect, etc. There are a handful of bands I put myself in the true-fan bucket and The Cult is one. Thanks to the taper
In Canada we had the privilege of hearing The Cult on the radio because of our friendliness with the Commonwealth. They were in-between the metal and the hair metal in the late 80's. Iain Astbury's vocals are out of this world!!!
In fifty years people will still play their cool tunes and envy that which is us for living in the same time as they , the cult ....
The best♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️All time
🎶🌺AWESOME🌺🎶
This band is aging real well. I was a freshman in college when Electric came out, it was a big part of our soundtrack. Great to see them still killing it.
Excellent! One of the best bands ever!
The older they get the better they sound.Last saw them back in 85 on the Electric Tour in Manchester UK. Ian's voice is amazing, Billy makes it look incredibly easy, such a great guitarist.
The Electric Tour was 1987
Nice to see the Cult out rockin. Hopefully when Covidland ends they will tour again!!!!!!
@@benallmark9671 True
The Cult is underrated.
Billy is nailing it!! Awesome to see him 35 years ago and better than ever! Ian is doing well. Expected a little better but we are all getting older and I'm not near as talented as Ian is and will always be.
Lol
Great band ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
stood the test of time these boys I'm 52 sure I started listening to them before I was 20 still sound great
How good is Billy Duffy!
Tijuana Iguana masterful..!! 🔥🔥🎸🎸🎸
Really good!
Top 5 of all time.
Billy Duffy is the ron Jeremy in rock! Only head y play music like a Mozart! O Beethoven like cigarettes
Hrs sic
I’m 42. I’ve been listening to these guys since I was 12. I’m seeing them live for the first time June 7 in Edmonton. Bucket list shit.
I saw these guys with The Divinyls 4/22/86 at The Rainbow in Denver. They put on one hell of a show , so did the Divinyls. R.I.P. Christina....
I been around the Rock scene for many years! Almost its entire history & when We saw the CULT the first time we were Blown Away! Glad they settled their differences & get on with it. As a guitarist I always admired Billy! Great Player!.
Best lineup of The Cult. Billy is a true rock guitar god! 🎸😎👍
IF THERE IS A HEAVEN, AND I GET TO GO,, I HOPE IM CENTER STAGE AT A CULT CONCERT FOR ETERNITY!!! DANCIN WITH BABY JESUS
I was there. It was sold out. Packed . It was by far the longest set list of the tour
This is by far there best live performance I've seen online. Phenomenal !!
Ian and Billy still rock just as hard as they ever did! Two legends!!!!!!!
Forget the The Les Paul & bring out the White Falcon 😎
My anthem for years. Thank you Cult for many good memories. My family came from Kent in 1635. Osborne
I first heard the cult back in 85 when I was 12yrs old on MTV when they played a live concert in New York at the Ritz. I was a fan from then on. I still am.
The Cult is an awsome band. Great guitarist, wonderful catchy riffs and that voice of Ansbury is still as sharp as a knive. One of these voices you instantly recognize.
The Cult needs to be recognized also as one of the best/iconic bands to come from the 80s and still is rocking that unique voice and sound 🎉❤
Billy Duffy, Absolutely amazing!
Man, Billy sounds great! Just like he stepped out of 1989
Damn Ian STILL does it for me!! Whewwww!!!! I've seen em 1x and fell in love all over again!!!!! Been a fan since the late 80s and will be forever!!!🤘🥰😍❤💋
Duffy is still in good shape, he's a fantastic guitarist and rocking all over the world🤘🤘
Come on guys-direction Serbia-we are waiting for you-this kind of gig must be heard in our country-great greetings from Bojsa
The cult is one of the best bands out there and this video contests to that. Rock on billy
Ian Ansbury is soooo underrated...he's just as good a singer as Bono or the late Michael Hutchence (INXS)
He's a great album singer, but he has grown lazy live....it's frustrating at times.
He is better!
@@meledge55 What Bono sings is much more easy to sing,Bono cannot sing most of the Cult or INXS songs.Bono is a regular singer on a regular band, where the albums are made by the producers, engineers etc.
@@vnwarry3081 He is a great singer not a albums singer, but i agree with you he has become very lazy live, sometimes really frustrating.
@@nelsonventura7374 I don't know what regular singing or a regular band means. Also I'm talking about live performance not studio work...though Bono's vocals have traditionally been left relatively clean in the studio. Anyway I like all 3 singers mentioned above.
Sure, the lads are older and whatnot, but close your eyes and it's the 80s all over again! Ian and Billly, so on point!
Keep in mind also...it just means they play better and songs are tighter with all that rehearsal.
@@stevemccart9109 Bingo!
Actually, they look pretty good at their age.
I have been CULTerized since the 80's... Found the Dreamtime cassette in France, ever since then... Astbury n Duffy
Sonic Temple was as cool as any Doors Album , so many cool little melodies with these two Bill and Ian , man they still have it , so cool
back as old men and sounding good as ever
Mick Minn ... doors Album how many years before? Different technology!
ageism is real.
Great band! Full style like cigarettes in your mustang and two baby’s ! Amazing voice from Ian! 80 year! The old man still alive! Don’t forget! Ok 💀👊🏻👊🏻⚔️🗡⚔️
Great performance. Duffy is unbelievable
One of my fondest memories... It was 1990, my first trip to Las Vegas, day 3 or 4, too young to gamble but already banged two cocktail waitresses and chillin at the pool drinking buds with some cool Navy boys on vacation. The dj on the radio announces that fire woman is the #1 song in the country and we cranked it up and jammed and the cult became one of my favorite bands! Damn they were the shiznit...
Been a Cult fan since 1987, saw them live in Ottawa 1992 with Lenny Kravitz (who rocked the shit outta the opening act, and I have been a fan of since)!! I remember Billy having problems with his monitor, and he kicked the shit out of it!..lol
56:00 Ian's tambourine disintegrates and he ninja kicks that thing right onto the drum riser. perfect!
😂
The drummer is solid. The whole band is great !
Matt Sorum? Huge change ups.
@@jamesdewer I believe it's John Tempesta
Saw them two nights back to back...Orpheum Boston 1985.... spectacular
i met these guys at the norva ..va,,great show they gave my friend and me backstage passes my friend was dying and it was his last wish to meet billy, billy talked to us for about 2hrs or more after the show,,awesome dude,,,their manager and the band..those guys are the best guys bless them all wish them only the best
Glad your friend got to meet them 👍 I met them in the 90's in Sydney. Absolutely crazy show! And yeah Billy is such a nice guy.
Aaaawww ❤️😢
Glad for him and They are good to do such...I got to meet them after the show in Atlanta.
"She sells sanctuary"... i was ~17 when this song was released, pretty much brings back all the good memories.. thank you The Cult for that!
Dude still has an amazing voice\m/
Ian Astbury
Never,EVER,heard them sound better..Billy Duffy is absolutely PHENOMENAL..
They are so damn good!!! There is no rock partnership like Billy and Ian!!❤❤
the sound and quality is amazing, very blessed to have grown up with their music,
I was a kid when I first heard Love Removal Machine and it blew my mind
Me too! I still think it’s probably “the” premiere “guitar album.” Just a guitar and an amp turned up LOUD.
Damn! ... the Cult are back!… last time i saw them in 92, not as strong as this!
Shivers down your spine good!!
So much soul and energy in everything they do.
Wow, they sound great!
Awesome band can't wait to see them in concert
The Cult me hizo olvidar el Covid, Thanks The Cult Lima Peru
the Pheonix was one of my favorites for standing around a bonfire with a few cold ones and hearing that tune...just goes well with the flames cranking...
Still wonderful after all these years.
You gotta love The Cult!
Got the sonic temple LP sound to the drums live, well done❤
He sounds better than ever!
"VIVA O THE CULT! NÓS AQUI NO BRASIL, AMAMOS TODAS AS SUAS MAGNÍFICAS CANÇÕES. ESTA É REALMENTE UMA BANDA DE VERDADE." - M.S.C.
Such an underrated band.If you have a chance to see them.Do it you won't be disappointed
Donald Eife you got that right....
Billy is up there with the guitar greats in my opinion!!🤘🏻
This footage's sound is great!
WHAT A FUCKIN4 BAND !!!
Fantastic live version of Lucifer...and not only this! Great rock band!
Billy is always brilliant…thanks for for focusing on him
Supercharged British Alternative Rock at its Best.
Just seen them perform in Des Moines recently..Wow the energy, sound, everything was magnificent...Been to a shit ton of concerts and that one will go down as one of my favorites!!
They sound good! Saw them in the 80's. Blew me away
Je suis agnostique mais the cult là j'adhère avec plaisir.
Good job you guys! I felt like I was sitting there with you and I would have sang every word too!! 😆👍
This is awesome! Love the Cult. Feel like a kid again. Love to see them.
I never had the chance to see them live. Amazing band!
Massive band in Toronto before, during and after the height of the Cult, so much so that Ian lived there way back when. We shopped at the same hole in the wall record store on Younge Street, super nice guy that loved to talk about music. I saw them live several times over the years, amazing band!
Wow. Ian sounds great here.
Friggin Ian doesnt miss a beat with his chops this many years later! Amazing
I got stuck on a train ride from Houston to LA in 87 and this was the only cassette I had in my walkman. I lucked out.
Great soundtrack to ur trip!
Going tonight in Moncton NB Canada........Seen them back in 86' I think In Toronto Ontario. They were kick ass then and I'm sure I won't be disappointed tonight.
alssign1 enjoy 😊 have a great night
Vocals sound better than 15+ years ago..... Solid! Keyboards add a lot. Cult rocks!!!
They should do a full blown greatest hits tour!!! Ian sounds amazing!!!
Vocal processors have guvibg singers a new lease of life as they age
Yes, saw them in the 90’s and Ian was so off his chops, he mumbled through his songs. We then got to see them opening for guns and roses a couple of years back and they were fantastic.
