Rob Innes I used to watch this all the time on my old VHS tape, and I agree. I also, think its underrated. It doesn't get enough praise as it deserves.
***** I saw this when it first came out 27 years ago 4 times in theaters and had some merchandise and is one of my fave Disney movies and it's overlooked/underrated like Great Mouse Detective, Fox and Hound, Atlantis, and some others.
***** Well, Rescuers Down Under is a sequel to "The Rescuers," and sadly, it's one of those sequel movies that just doesn't do as well as the first movie.
I get a lump in the throat everytime I listen to this song. So many memories! and the phrase "keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive"....man if that's true!!
Huey's music was still popular in 1988, why wasn't this a major hit back then? Its quite emotional and much mellower than most of his songs but I'm surprised it wasn't an AC crossover, since soundtrack songs were big back then too.
After moving from a small town in the South to the Big Apple, I realized how true this song is. And hearing it after going all that, it makes me cry even more than it did when I was little.
Wow. So much nostalgia. I was watching this as a child so many years ago. This song makes me want to cry. We will never get those years back. Cherish it all.
Anyone else holding back tears? Oliver and Company just doesn't get the love it deserves. I personally hope we get a re-release soon, like, maybe on the 30th anniversary in 2018, or something
I _ADORE_ how dreamy it all sounds. Just... ...Darn, I love it. And those lyrics...Inspiring, uplifting, and emotional only begins to describe it. Easily in my top ten Disney songs without a doubt.
I was born years after this movie, but in 1998 it still managed to be a huge part of my early childhood. As a little kid I fell in love with the tune of this song. I always found myself humming this song throughout elementary, middle, and high. Though... This song and that opening scene make my heart ache so much harder now than it did when I was a kid... Coming to understand the lyrics, while watching that heartbreaking opening scene, now brings me to tears at age 22. Though this movie hasn't aged quite as gracefully as the 90s Disney movies, it's still one I cherish greatly. It has had made a hugely positive influence in my childhood and sparked lifelong creative motivation for me. Movies like Zootopia seemed like they could potentially recreate the feel, but 2016 simply isn't the 80s. I wish I could've lived the decade to enjoy the music, video games and movies of the era when they were new.
Got to see it in theaters when I was in kindergarten. For show and tell I sang Why Should I Worry. I only knew three lines from the song. Sad to think I could have been on Ellen if I had been born twenty years later.
@@NateSean Gosh I'm jealous. I would have *loved* to be a kid in the timeframe that films like Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty & the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. Granted, I'm just grateful that, in spite of being born in 1994, my parents still got all the aforementioned movies on VHS by the time I reached preschool, but I still would have loved to *live* the era that these movies were actively acknowledged by normies just as much as by cartoon fanatics.

When it's your first time in NYC and the first thing you think about is a catchy single made for an underrated Disney movie... I nearly cried at the fact that I couldn't find the original on Amazon music... bummer.
I love this soundtrack, I've listened to it dozens of times, only seen the movie 2-3 times. This song is one of the saddest songs that I love. I have the soundtrack on cassette tape.
It sounds like a song that deserves to be played on top 40 because it was never released as a radio or physical single. It is one of the underrated Disney opening songs ever.
The most uplifting song ever made...keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive, they're getting your place prepared....so beautiful
This movie was my childhood, and I still love it whenever I hear this song it brings tears to me seeing other people adopt other kittens, and forgetting the other little kitten before he became Oliver poor little kitten. It makes me wanna adopt a kitten that looks like Oliver, and keep him I've always wanted to go to New York City since I was 10 years old.
This is a great song, and Huey Lewis, I've never listened to any of his songs before, but his voice is great and heartwarming on this song, with a Sinatra-like quality. Another thing that makes this song great is that the lyrics were written by Howard Ashman (RIP)
I know this song was upload and over 14 years old but it took me years that "huey Lewis and the news" did this song. I havent seen thia movie let alone hears this song in years. Wow. 😊
"keep your dreams alive, dreaming is how the strong survive" once upon a time in New York City! Representing 9/11 and to all the people who still have hope to be happy once again.
I don't live in New York, however, why does this song make me feel much sader than what I am already?? I guess it just reminds me of myself since May 2, 2010, sorry my boyfriend, Craig broke up with me then, and now just hearing this song reminds me of myself, it's so magical and yet still reminds me of my sorrow while trying to keep my head up high. Besides that, I love this song and the movie!
One of my favorite movies which I watched. To all those people who are ashamed of watching cartoons, don't be. Cartoons are for any age and nobody should feel uncomfortable about cartoons in front of friends, family or anyone else.
I remember this was like one of my favorite movies ever. :D I'm 16 now but this is pretty awesome! Love the song! this song just echoes with memories of watching Old Disney cartoons and watching this of course, and all the other awesome Disney movies that made television go round.
This song gives me the biggest Chills and flashbacks of my life, i can clearly remember watching hearing this song and watching the movie on an old tv on the floor with a blamket and all my siblings
I remember watching this movie first-run in 1988, and it still sends a chill down my spine every time I think about it. This, and "The Little Mermaid," paved the way for Disney's Renaissance--and its invasion of Broadway, a topic that I recently did a presentation on.
You saw this in 88 too? I did three times when I was Six and I also saw little mermaid when I was 7 twice. Don’t forget great mouse detective and roger rabbit too
Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction with crossovers and ship and my fav fandom. in 2020 still the strong survive ,Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction with the Multiverse ,Earthlings,Martians too. Once Upon a time in a Fanfiction.
you kidding?? that's not a sad song!! it's a song that gives hope even when there is none left! There's a quote of this song that I tattoed on my shoulder, it says "Keep your dream alive, dreaming is still how the strong survive" and that's so true!!!!
@Shinjitsusei Thank you for uploading this song. An this film is so perfect and timless. The song is so sad yet epic and uplifting. And it's true too. From living in NYC for a number of years... It's always, Once Upon a Time in New York City.
If a movie can make you happy, sad, and a little scared within the first four minutes; then you have done something right in my opinion
This is one of the most underrated and over looked Disney films. It's one of the best I think.
I KNOWW< I freking LOVE this movie!!!

a shame this movie never got the recognition it deserves...easily of the best of not THE best disney soundtracks...

Damn, I miss the 80's and the 90's! If I could only go back!

Glad I was born 40 years ago
You know the movie is going to get a banger when Huey Lewis is the opening artist!

You just summarized my life story, too!

"So Oliver don't be shy, get out there and go and try, believing that you're the guy they're dying to see."

Nope I release the tears!
Being released on November 18, 1988, the same exact date as another animated film, The Land Before Time, is the very definition of bad timing.

Really wish this was on Spotify. Only covers of the song are on there. 😢
Every time this song ends, I hear a crowd of people cheering in my head.
Cheering because the song is awesome - or cheering because the song is over? I hope you think the former! :D
It's difficult not to visualize what happens when the tone changes at 1:42. ~sniffle~
Probably one of the best Disney songs ever. Love the melody! The movie is also one of my Disney faves.

What about 101 Dalmatians, great mouse detective, fox and hound etc?
This would have been the perfect cover when this movie came out on VHS. This picture of Oliver got my attention that the movie was worth watching.
