The first thing you'll learn when you take a firearm self-defense course is that situational awareness will put you in a position to win most gun fights.
It wasn't that he was such a fantastic shot that saved him; he had situational awareness and a tool to deal with the information his situational awareness gave him.
A lot of people in California live in a fantasy world.
They think they can virtue signal their way out of problems.
Criminals don't care about your virtue signal; they thrive on it!
They understand how naive it makes you and thus makes their job so much easier. All these virtue signaling policies do is embolden criminals.
Reality also doesn't care about your virtue signal.
You can make all the gun laws you want; criminals will still have guns, and they'll use those guns to victimize you, and the cops won't be able to get there in time to do anything about it.
This means you are the only person responsible for your safety.
That's the reality of using your gun in self-defense.
You carry a gun because you value life so much that you want to protect it; the paradox is that sometimes people will force you to take a life to defend it.
That comes with a massive amount of stress.
That's not even factoring in the added stress and money that comes from situations where you have to go to court to defend yourself if there isn't any video to make it clear that it was justified.

Back in the 50’s & 60’s we had gun safety classes in school. We had rifle teams and we even carried guns across campus and NO ONE WAS EVER SHOT OR KILLED ! Our Movie Heroes even did gun safety on their shows and gun safety around the country at schools. See if you could get a modern day movie star (who makes millions using guns in their movies) to give a talk to kids about gun safety and responsibility!!

The police, when they arrived, were great and they had responded as quickly as humanly possible to our initial 911 call, but in the fourteen minutes before they arrived we were on our own. Through teamwork in fighting off the intruder and wounding him with our firearm, WE WERE ON OUR OWN. @Schwarzvogel1 Год назад +14

@@drtmi8789 That's quite gauche of you to say that he needs more range time just because he didn't kill the intruder. The whole point of self-defence is to *stop* your assailant, not necessarily to kill him. What happens to him after you stop his attack or not is immaterial at the time of the assault.
Did Mr. Jenkins manage to stop his assailant before the perp was able to harm him and his wife? Yes. So it sounds like Mr. Jenkins' training and range time paid off pretty damn well... and since the intruder didn't die, he isn't potentially facing a homicide or even murder charge due to overzealous prosecutors who like to hammer innocent, law-abiding people with more fervor than they go after career criminals. Moreover, he doesn't have to live with the fact that he ended another human's life, because unless you are some sort of psychopath, actually killing another human being will change you forever.

I'm pro gun and pro ar, but these silly arguments bug me. Assault Rifles like the AR are designed for military use against armed combatants, which is exactly why we need them to uphold the 2nd amendment. My weapon is my only protection since I’m totally unable to get away. I thank the good Lord for muscle memory. Thank you Colin! Last week my car and I were surrounded by 5 wannabe gang bangers. I had just purchased a little bit of groceries for my homemade dog food for my home K9. They must have seen me go into the store with my cane and my efforts to stay standing as I got my cart to shop and hold on to . When I came outside- there were two next to my drivers door sitting on the curb in my handicap parking spot . I said hello to the two men and waited for them to get up and let me open my drivers door . They wouldn’t, so thinking they were dense I asked them politely if they could scoot over and they laughed at me and then three more showed up on the passenger side of the car / I turned on my car alarm and they laughed at me again! I couldn’t scurry away fast enough and I tried but they followed me. I don’t carry a big purse I only had my debit card - I yelled to them to back off and they wouldn’t. I then drew . Dropped my cane and told them to back off. Thankful that they did. During this whole 3-5 minutes not one human came to help me. Not one

Not surprised no one came to help. Unclear from your story how many others were within range to see or hear, but more importantly people are dense and do not recognize situations unfolding right before their eyes.
Example would be my ex wife who almost got us shot during a traffic stop, didn’t know what I was talking about when I aborted getting gas to drive to neighboring gas station (to borrow phone to report assault in progress) and didn’t recognize bodies when two guys came flying off car in next lane on the highway. More commonly now that I live in an open carry state, it is clear most people are utterly unaware of those open carrying right next to them - not talking don’t care, simply don’t see it.

The dad was disrespected and made to leave and pay the ex and given a few weeks in the summer and every other weekend in most cases. This is even if the wife cheated found a new boyfriend the dad pays and loses his children.
We need at fault divorce where a judge and jury get down to why divorce is the only answer and who is at fault.
If a man beats or cheat he goes to jail for 6 months then pays when he gets out.
If a woman beats or cheats she gets the same treatment.

I am so glad that I have been blessed with such a great family who taught me the right way to conduct myself as a gun owner. Everyone in my hometown had guns and most of them had large arsenals but I think about it now and realize that it was honestly looked at back then as an absolutely necessary part of growing up and just as expected as taking the next breath of air. He would tell stories of growing up in NYC and traveling to and from smallbore rifle matches with his rifle sling over shoulder, on the New York subway. He went on to shoot on three Olympic Teams, capturing a Bronze Medal in 1951(I believe). He remained active in shooting well into his 80s placing third on the American Palma team tryouts at the age of 75. I'm 72 years old. When I was growing up in the 50s & 60s, we had bullies and the mentally ill. What we didn't have were mass shootings, or kids with no respect for human life. We had prayer in schools, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance every morning at the start of the school day. I remember kids as early as 2nd grade bringing Mauser and Arisaka rifles their fathers brought back from the war, to show and tell. We would just get on the bus and when we got to school we gave it to our teacher and went out to play until first bell. When I was in high school in San Diego county California my sophomore year my buddy and I were chosen to be Sargeants at Arms. "Cool" we said, "What does that mean?" "It means" we were told that we would sit out side the cafeteria and "guard" the door so only the students participating in the political convention, could get in. "Cool" we said and the next day my buddy brought a Japanese Nambu Type 99 machine gun DEWAT, to school and we set it up on a picnic table outside the cafeteria with a belt of M60 blanks laid across it. When the Vice Principal came by and saw us he asked "What are you two fools up to now?" We explained the situation to him and he walked away shaking his head and mumbling to himself. There were no SWAT TEAMS no "counselors" no panic. We truly lived in another world then.
