This is the best bowing lesson, best of all that i have watched and tried to correct my problem of holding a bow after several years. Thank you so much.
JFC this is so hard haha this is easily the best lesson so far though. Ive gone through 5 and it didn't start clicking until this one. Keeping the thumb bent is the hardest part for me. It feels so much more secure with it and the pinky locked but I know everybody keeps saying thats like the worst thing you can do lol
I always implement these exercises in my studying for the bow hold, but I came across that sometimes my pinky flips around and loses stability, falling from one of the sides. I'm not really sure why that happens but It makes me feel that I don't have 100% control of the right hand. Thanks for the videos!
Наконец то нашла ролик,где правильно показывается,как устанавливать большой палец.На смычке.!!!Спасибо вам за ролик,за то,что очень наглядно все роказали.Бесценный ролик.Удачи вам!
Brilliant exercises for a perfect bow hold. I'll def continue practicing them. Thank you so much for sharing! I wonder how do I prevent my pinkie from slipping?
Coming back to violin (which I played for like 7 years) slowly after a very struggling injury. My bow hold got very weird so I intend to work on that. These exercises look VERY useful. I’ll probably report here each week to feel motivated.
@@stikfamaster2 well well well i forgot the existence of this comment lmao but the injury is chronic, it kicks my ass so bad when i play the violin (not everytime but i need to have a good day to play it as in pain) i sometimes play it but tbh i dont see any support from my family but when i gain my own money ( which will be this summer i want a mini job) will enroll in violin classes. Also my bow hold got better but since i lack my old flexibility in both hands i struggle but who says it is impossible right? I dont wanna give up on this tbh. Thank you for asking, i did a little trauma dump tho sorry😭
Thank you so much for this wonderfull class. I actually play viola but my playing has improved a lot thanks to this explanation about how to hold the bow.
Wow!!! You are a great teacher! You've covered so much in this short video - and all for free? I will now work bit by bit on everything in detail. I can not wait for a video of the arm vibrato but that should wait. Bye for now!
Hi 👋🏼 I’ve just discovered your videos. I play the viola after several years with violin and I am very happy to find here motivation for filling my gaps 👍 thank U!
This is fascinating. Being self taught has its drawbacks. Going to look at this and try it. Being a fiddler it seems optional, still I want more bow control. I think that is key
Thank you. Understanding the function of each finger is very helpful. Any advice on pinky cramps? That's always been my issue. It makes using my fingertip very painful.
Overcomplication. Ricci says you just need three contact points. Kato Havas describes the tiny pinky being expected to control the long stick as 'unfair'.
I learned that a finger should use the dot on the frog . The fourth finger. I would never have played the violin if the bow hold was this complicated. We were taught to shake out your hand and then set the fourth on the dot on the frog.
P.S. Mr Murphy I saw the practice bow stroke bring done with the index finger of the left hand poking through the gap between the stick and the hair (at bow tip). This works really well to balance the bow, see the sideways motion and avoid touching the bow hair. G Ire
Anyone have opinions on the "bow hold buddy" plastic gadgets that attach to the bow and give you grips to keep your fingers around? Obviously no substitutes for strengthening and developing the right hand ability, but maybe helpful as a reminder (you would bump against it if your fingers went off track?) I'm going to do these exercises religiously but was curious if any of those gadgets would be additional help getting started. They are marketed pretty heavily at beginners, which i am
Delighted to get this Mr Murphy. I do buts of these but so glad to get the full picture / range of motion. Big Thank You! I'll be on to it directly! G Ire (adult learner)
Hey So I’ve recently gone through changing to a much better teacher and she is telling me to switch to the Franco Belgian since that’s what she teaches but I’m having great difficulty making the switch. Any tips? Thank you
For what it's worth... I started this bow hold by exercising bow hand using a pencil (not the round-sided ones). You train your hand to move fingers only keeping the rest of the hand 'immobile' by balancing a coin or and egg cup on the back of the hand (whilst practicing the 'see-saw' and 'jellyfish'). I found it a brilliant start in how to learn the workings of this bow hold. Hope it helps you. Best regards. G Ire
Good video! ✨🎻 This is going to be so useful, except for the fact that I feel forced to shorten the terms of practice so as not to finish it being 200 years old. 🤷♂ (8:04 every *week?!* Are you serious?! My intention is to finish it in one life 🤨).
Thank you for your drtailed videos your channel is great. This especially is a very useful video (and I watched a lot of bow hold videos since I just started a month ago and don't have a teacher yet) I must say it's very hard for me to keep my pinky curved. Unfortunately the tutorials I started with had no emphasis on the pinky at all and now I feel somewhat stable stroking with a locked straight pinky. When I curve my pinky the bow feels like it's about to slip out of my hand or at least the pinky slips away and if it magically doesn't I notice that suddenly my thumb is locked. I try doing the jellyfish and the seesaw excercise with the bow while taking off a bit of the weight with the left hand since I can't seem to be able to hold a pencil like that at all. Will this method help or is there anything else I could do ? Thanks!
months for the bow hold.bro thinks we live forever💀 yeah sure mate in 60 years now i can hold the violin i can move on to the playing wait oh no fuck im dead
So does it take 6 months to a year for your students to actually get to play the violin??? 😳 I mean, I imagine you have to first be able to hold the bow correctly to then play, no?
This is the best bowing lesson, best of all that i have watched and tried to correct my problem of holding a bow after several years. Thank you so much.
Best bow exercise video I've seen! I wish I found you earlier
You’re a lifesaver 🥺🥺

Very well explained, great exercises for violin bow hold, just what I needed at this moment, thank you so much for sharing! 👍👏😄

Very good pedagogy for violin technique , Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much your a great teacher.
Super good content!! Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!!
Brilliant exercises for a perfect bow hold. I'll def continue practicing them. Thank you so much for sharing! I wonder how do I prevent my pinkie from slipping?
Ha! Literally was just wondering about mine and then you post this. I'm sure it'll be a great video!!
This was really valuable. Thank you
Thank you so much your videos are incredible, could you make a video on how to move the bow arm I tend to get confused with it a lot. Thanks
Thanks from brazil. Your tutorials helped me a lot! I was looking for this specific movement of the fingers I couldn't find anywhere!!
Very Good exercises!!

10 months in, how has it been going?

I like you. I paused at 30sec to write this comment without watching the rest of the video yet. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Woa very helpful thank you. Could you maybe explain the purpose of the index finger? Is it to provide downward pressure at the tip when needed?
Thank you. Understanding the function of each finger is very helpful. Any advice on pinky cramps? That's always been my issue. It makes using my fingertip very painful.
Many thanks. For one reason or another I have spare bows that need rehairing so can practice without endangering the ones I play with.
Been playing for 3 years! And wow - I've learned a lot! Thanks for the tips^^
Excellent instruction...

Do you struggle with keeping the pinky curved? Mine keeps locking up.
Wow, thanks!
Thanks 😊
Another great video, amazing.
Glad you enjoyed! It's important info, yet not at the top of everyone's priority list.
Hi. I am having trouble with my pinky finger falling off the stick.

Hi how to make a sound the violin string using a bow
Thx 😊 this is so helpful. The best tutorial yet!!!
Thank you thank you thank you 😭
🤣 “people, when learning colle, think it’s this jerky motion”… that’s me lol, glad I watched this

At this point it’s just insta-liking videos lol. Great video!!!
I saw a video the other day violinists were holding the bow from a bit further up. why do they do this ?

I feel like tom Holland is teaching me violin lmao
Good video! ✨🎻

The violin strings actually are the true holders.. experience does the rest.
So hard.

No. You can be taught the correct bowhold in a day. For it to stick and be a part of good technique, however, takes time, work, and guidance.
There's nothing called a perfect bow hold.
But there's workable or efficient bow hold
France makes best bow, learn French bow holding, full stop.
Why ? What are the whys and wherefores? Otherwise you just spouting dogma .
Dude you really have an overinflated ego to be saying this
Kebanyakan bicara....
👎👎👎
Very helpful, thank you.
