I think all you would need to do is just learn the note names on the staff, and you would be set. You already understand pulse and beat, and it seems like you understand note values too, kind of? But anyway, it shows you that anyone can read music, one just needs to learn it like any kind of new language or writing system.

This is evidenced when Eddy messes up when the violist doesn't come in. He says, "Someone is supposed to come in there." And then she says, "Me, but I don't come in until [measure] 9." This shows that neither knew exactly what the other was supposed to be playing.
@@magdolyn Yeah, you'll usually see the piano have the scores if they're a part of the arrangement, since there's usually a page turner for the piano. Also, the piano has the ability to overpower the instruments, so having the master score can help the pianist cue and regroup the ensemble.

I love it so much when Eddie and Brett play with and for each other or with friends. These episodes confirm their virtuosity and love and respect for the music.
Ahhh this makes me miss ensemble playing and orchestra in general so much :(( There's really nothing like the feeling of making music with other people and I'm so glad twoset is keeping it alive for those of us that can't do it anymore
This shows how it doesn't take very much at all for a whole piece to fall apart, particularly for just quartets. One wrong note, 1/8th too early/late, etc. This is why rehearsal is important. But after they mess up and it sounds like baroque polyphony or something, then they re-do and everything sounds way different and smooth.
This was absolutely wonderful! Moments of pure musical beauty, utter chaos, laughter and joy, and even the mistakes - it was all great! Thank you everyone for doing this!

As a singer, I'm so used to seeing all the voices. It took me a few clicks to realize that they are only seeing their own part. I guess it's nice to not have to turn pages, but it sure would be easier to find your place if you're off if you can see all the other parts.

These string quartet vids actually make me realise that viola sounds amazing. I found myself going back to try and hear the viola. Despite the jokes, violas sound really nice! Good job viola gang, keep playing on :D

An absolute gem of a video ... brilliant music, beautiful people and such a wonderful sound. I would pay to see these four in concert. As always Bretty & Eddy are their sweet and whimsical selves, with Angie adorably suppling the fantastic viola accompaniment and Hyung ... what a fantastic view to his carefree side! Truly another well done video! Thank you to the quartet members and Editor San for a lovely almost 21 minutes of classical goodness!

It's fun stuff! I like it more than being in an orchestral setting. Sure you're responsible for every note in your part but it's also more...flexible? And your section is always together!

Relative pitch is more important than perfect pitch for telling if someone's messed up (or playing out of tune)

As a singer, I'm so used to seeing all the voices. It took me a few clicks to realize that they are only seeing their own part. I guess it's nice to not have to turn pages, but it sure would be easier to find your place if you're off if you can see all the other parts.
These group activities are by far my favourites as they give you guys a chance to just be musicians and take us along for the ride.

I'm not a musician, but I am actually learning the names of classical music that I enjoy. the Mendelson excerpt they did for second level was really lovely. Gave me spooky cottage town vibes. i hope to find more gems like this. :)
