My jack passed away back in January he was 18, l had him from 6 weeks old. I took him to work every day, l worked out side, he was my little boy. I trained him so well first 2 years, from then on he never had a lead. You said about your jack fighting off a grizzly, my jack , Stimpy fought off 3 Alsatians, all 3 times his size, jacks have no fear what so ever. There also super intelligent, but every jack has it's own character, best dogs ever. I miss my little boy so much. I have a little cry every day. He was literally glued to my right leg, l really miss my little Stimpy. He was so fit right to the end, but he had a stroke which caused a blood vessel too burst in his brain. I loved him so much. I'm thinking of all who have lost there jack, lan. ❤

As a Jack owner, routine, routine, routine. My Charlie does best with routine, any trips, company, holidays really throw him off. He's not bad just you can tell he is happiest when he knows what's happening next. Every day we drive my son to school, go get a coffee, play in backyard then treat, stuffed animal wrestle, back scratches then sleep. I work overnights so he really enjoys the 9am-2pm nap he gets everyday.

I have recently opened a dog daycare and a jack russell chose me as it's human 4 months ago. He has to let every dog know its his place and I'm his mummy. Once that is done he plays nice but demands they play tug of war while growling at them. I know he's trying to play but it can be so exhausting making sure the other dogs feel comfortable. So difficult when I'm trying to introduce a new dog to the pack. I've told my business partner I can't do any more introductions because navigating the jack russels behaviour is too difficult. Lucky his face melts my heart ❤

I rescued a 9yo Jack Russell and it does not like other dogs one bit. Last month he got away from me and attacked the poodle next door (very costly). He is great with people but I am afraid he's too old to end the aggressive reactions he has when other animals come around...... Glad I found your site.

My old jack who passed away after 19 years used to start fights with our Rottweilers every day. Lucky Rottweilers are docile and highly intelligent. They just held his head on the ground until he stopped. Now the male Rottweiler has adopted my Jack Russell pup like his son. They are like glue , sleep together, play , and especially annoy the cat together. But true ,Jack Russell has very little fear and for the size are a very tough dog.

Reading the room is spot on. He can be aggressive with strange dogs but is more bluff (ie never really bites). I keep him on a short lead or releash him when on the beach and when walking into this scenario. He was attacked by a pit bull looking dog when he was younger and I think this has put him on his guard and gets in first with the aggression.

I have posted here a few times. I have two JR puppies. They are now 8 mos old. A bro and a sis. They live, eat and sleep together. We have get together s and other dogs are around them as well. They do okay. However, that said, they can be extremity aggressive with each other (not other dogs) when something ticks them off. Example, a toy or food. One wants the others. One starts the fight by the "evil eye". When I can catch the "evil eye" I can stop it before it starts. The catalyst is my husband or I entering the scene. As soon as we are around, it's an all out brawl. You are correct when you say they can fight a grizzly bear and when you said when they are "all in" they are truly "all in". We have had to pull them apart by their tails and STILL one will keep going after the other. No give up in sight. If you want a JR, be prepared. The good news is they quickly forget and move on. They do not hold grudges. I separate them for a bit until they cool off. Once the drama is over they are once again playing and back to normal. I have to say, if you catch the "evil eye" before it starts (snap the brain out of it) you will stop the fight before it starts.

My Jack Russell is totally non-violent. I have a large yard, my Jack Russell allows rabbits and squirrels in my yard. A few times she has tried to play fetch with the squirrels but when that didn't work she just started to ignore them. Once once an extremely frightened rabbit ended up running straight towards my Jack Russell who jumped over it so she wouldn't be in the way. She is not afraid of anything and once when a deer ran through my yard she thought she should Chase it. Squirrels and rabbits no, deers yes.

Great advice and so true, love your channel, my patterjack is a constant challenge but I'm getting there with him, massive character, very loyal, stubborn, learning it's about understanding your terrier and their behaviour and working with them rather than old school harsh training which just won't work with these lovely dogs, they'll hate your and get worse. It's more of a bonding process than being alpha pack leader type of thing I think.

I have two JR crosses and they have different personalities, for the main part like you say the prey drive is there for good or bad. Being aware of it is key, I like your advice never to let a new “friendly” dog play unsupervised, they play hard and fast. I’m working with my young 2yo female who just wants to catch a bird lol, don’t like her chances but the chase is half the fun. I’ll never trust her recall, ever, even though she’s a darling on the lead and gives me googly-eye love stares, its just not going to matter the moment she sees “prey”. The older boy is just a darling and loves everyone, just wants to say hello, but needs to be reminded that not everyone is friendly as him. Walks are always fun, they love structure and consistency.

We have a 9 month old b*tch who I've been training her for pest control since 6 weeks old.
When she is in kill mode She is relentlessly aggressive, accurate, agile and incredibly quick.
But, at no other time is she like this.
We play fight a lot and have a great, trusting love and respect but it's never like she is when we train.
These are very intelligent animals, and very perceptive and sensitive.
You should strive to keep your JR as stimulated and entertained as possible, and let them be a dog, and work with their natural instincts.

Not aggressive dogs just working dogs bred for a purpose 👍
Fantastic dogs when they are kept busy hunting but true jacks need a awful lot of exercise.
People do buy them as they are small and cute and they make the mistake of thinking little dog can’t walk far before they get tired.
But the truth is these little dogs were bred to run with fox hounds and can have insane stamina for their size 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

We adopted a 5yo JRT/Chihuahua mix that is the sweetest dog ever untillllllll…someone approaches or comes up on our front porch. Her fav place to chill (I know! She really can chill-out…for a little bit anyway, lol) is on a chair sitting at our front window. She simply watches the world go by or naps there at times. But when the mailman comes or delivery people, etc she goes absolutely nuts. I mean scary nuts. Once they leave she will calm down but it takes her awhile…she will pant and even whine. I cannot decided if her aggression is territorial, guard-dog-ish or even from anxiety! I will say when guests come she does the same thing yet the very second the person comes inside, she is her sweet self to that same person she wanted to rip to sheds mere seconds ago. She gets 3 walks a day minimum and my daughter plays tug or fetch with her every day too. I’ve tried rewarding with treats for good behavior but gotten nowhere. Sorry for the massive post yet I was hoping maybe someone could tell me their ideas or experience. I wish I could afford a trainer but we just don’t have the resources for that. Thanks everybody!

We have a Jack Russel x Westie and he's lovely, albeit incredibly stubborn at home. I've taught him basic tricks and some manners, but the aggression when we go on walks, or if he sees an animal in the garden is crazy. We have to walk him with muzzle because he has no hesitation or fear of attacking other dogs.
My mum adopted him when he was 7, but annoyingly never pursued his training. I've taken him on this year, he's now 14.
I planned on seeing a behaviourist but financial situation has not been good this year so have not been able to yet.
He also gets 3 to 4 walks a day, always a different route, fetch and tug of war at home, puzzle toys etc. Rewards for good behaviour and a stern mums voice when misbehaving.
Have these videos helped you with your pooch?

We made the mistake of adopting two females. They are sisters from two different litters. They are now five years old and six years old and have increasingly gotten aggressive towards one another. Unfortunately the smaller one has suffered. Stitches etc.
We have noticed that the smaller jack also peas on top of the other Jack's urine nearly every chance she gets. I assume that's a sign of dominance. Unfortunately she is on the wrong end.
We have attempted to do things like not allowing them through doorways before us and following a cadence of the larger jack going in first but wondering if we should have been doing at the opposite. It seems like the larger jack is generally the aggressor but it's so hard to tell when they start to squab as it happens so quickly.
When they do fight it's generally when we have company over or there's someone at the front door that brings them both into a small confined space in a stressful situation.
Exercise is definitely something we can work on but outside of that does anyone have any suggestions? These dogs are rarely left by themselves and we love them like our children.

My Russel Terrrier is almost 2.5 yo now and before him we had a beagle.
Unfortunately the training that worked ont he beagle doesnt on the JRT. He is a playful lovely boy but most of his behavorial issues stem from attention seeking. Like whenever i have company over he would constantly keep bringing his toys over or keep barking trying to get attention and the company to play with him which is fine for a few minutes but he's relentless. Even if i tire him out by playing fetch, he wtill somehow activates as soon as i get a phone call or someone comes over and he will bring his toy to play fetch. The annoying part is he doesnt drop the toy instead salivates all over it and asks for us to snatch it from him like a tug of war and by the end my hands are drenched with his saliva. He wants to make a game out of eveything to all the time and i oblige bcoz i like playing with him but im afraid that has made keeping barriers difficult with him. I find myself constantly playing with him after telling him no. When im adamant about it he makes a sulky face and sits where i can see him make the face and as soon as i look at his eyes he springs up and gets his toy.
He will be sleeping as a log and as soon as he hears my phone's ringtone he'll perk up. Find some toy from the deepest embers under my bed and keep crying till i pull it out and play with him. We got him in lockdown and he has never really been alone alone for long so he lashes out by peeing on the curtains for which we have scolded him countless times. He has other alternates. Ee got a gian flower bed newr the curtains for him to piss on but he has to pee on the curtains. Im so tired of this. Someone advice .

For example normally he lets me take his blanket no problem but when he snaps he's so protective and aggresive that he will legit bite my hand (still gentle) and also growl at me. Other people he bites normally but I guess he's afraid to me bite me with full force.

She has noticed with certain dogs that my dog can be aggressive - growling and lunging at them , With certain dogs now ,she will keep him on his leash and tell him be nice which is code for do not be aggressive .. She thinks he is doing this also to make himself feel like he is the alpha dog . After about 5 minutes on the leash, he calms down and is ready to play . Dogs he was growling at before, become his best friends for the rest of the day . Hope this helps someone .

If you have one as a puppy they are so cute but don't be fooled they have no fear so respect that but make sure the dog knows it's place. It will take a little rough handling if they refuse to obey. I learnt the hard way. Make sure you take it's food away when young, don't tolerate growling, take their toys. Make them wait then let them have the toy. You have to be master or they will master you. They have no fear of any dog and will protect you. They are smart. I was approached by a growling Sharpeh off leash, my puppy was only 7 months on the lead just jumped on it's back bit the neck and rode him like a jockey. So funny. For a Japanese fighting dog it was pretty useless. I got my dog off and shooed it away. Owner was an idiot on their phone a field away. I crossed a busy road and then turned round to this dog growling at me. Then I gave it my tone of voice and told it to get on it ran away like a wimp. Of course it's all in the tone of your voice and show zero fear. I guess you need to be that way with any dog. Just be fair, not cruel but punnish bad behaviour. My best tip is tell them off then ignore them. That works really well. They hate being ignored. It doesn't take long, they creep up with a paw looking for a cuddle. If they have done something really bad push them away. But not for more than an hour or they will fret. They are intelligent and will get the message. However after all that if a cat jumps into your garden they will have selective hearing.

My JRT is fine with cats and rabbits. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to train my little guy to tolerate other animals. But if I tell him to “get the kitty” (to chase a random cat out of my yard), he will go on command. I have plenty pictures of Duke with my daughters bunny. It’s quite remarkable. But he has a limit to what he will tolerate. And I know what those limits are.

I have a Jack Russell cross (I’m not sure what she is cross with), but her behaviours are exactly what you talk about. My Luna will be 2 on the 29 th of December. I haven’t had her trained because we weren’t lock down like most of the world…. Every morning when I’m getting the kids ready for school, I get up off the couch and if I forget the tv remote (she’s bitten through a few already), but now every time she does it my husband and the kids chase her around the house (lol, which is funny), but as all I have to say is “Come Luna, mummy will get u a treat “ and only once I’ve got the treat close to her, I’ll give it to her and say Good girl for dropping it, good girl for listening to mummy. Now I know she has done the wrong thing by getting the remote control but I reward the good behaviour by listening to my command and she knows I will follow up with the reward. I’ve gained her trust. But if my husband or this kids do it, they tell her they will get her a treat and then not follow through with her, so now she only trusts me. How can I educate them ???

With Angel it's protecting me as well, if a stranger and/or their dog is within a couple of hundred yards away she starts growling then if they come closer it becomes a bark and a seriously aggressive growl with bearing of teeth if the came closer, she's hasn't bitten anyone "yet" usually because I say NO she's very obedient. She attacked an American Staffy (Pitbull/Staffy X) three years ago he retaliated and had her by the throat causing 5 puncture marks costing me $500 at the vet. He's usually a calm friendly dog who used to play with my MaltesePoodleX Eddie who used to really bug him ,the Pit would be soaked in Eddie's saliva but he didn't mind. Yeah she's mad alright..

What the heck? Why does my Baxter not like a three year old little boy? Other three year old boys vidit, and he’s fine. But this one little boy…he growls at! He does it with the my neighbors husband too. No other men. It’s crazy…so, we put him in the bedroom when my friend visits with her son.

I owned two pitbulls, a chihuahua, a yorkiepoo and a Cane Corso and the only one that has attacked my other dogs and bit me was my jack russell. He hated other dogs, once he sees one he gets tunnel vision. He lived for 18 years and was good early in age but became very aggressive around 3 years old. I would never get another jack russell again.

I just rescued a 3 year old Jack Russell that’s as an owner surrender about a month ago. He is wonderful but does have an aggressive side also. I can usually pinpoint when he’s getting annoyed and stop it before it gets out of hand. He is getting better day by day. I have two other dogs who he’s getting along. He was a bit good aggressive too but we are fixing that too. It’s the house training that he is not getting! I’m trying so hard! Do you have any tips for me? I need help. I’ve never had a dog I couldn’t house train. I’m hoping in time he will get it.

I have three of the little ankle biters, a momma and two of her pups she had already had when I took her in as a rescue. One (momma is a longer haired) the boys have shorter hair. My vet swears one of the boys is a throwback of a Parsons Terrier. I keep thinking they are going to grow up but now at 12 and 13 I don't think that will ever happen. I have not found a toy they can't tear up. They don't do well with other dogs but when it comes to cats it's all-out war. They hate cats and will stalk one for hours if it has been in the yard, they will sit at the last place the cat was waiting on it to return. I think people need to know they are climbers and jumpers. Unless you have a secure area, they can go out of they will get out, either over or under they will escape. The only thing mine are afraid of is a squirt bottle of water. I just show them the bottle and suddenly they are innocent babies. They stay inside but when they go out, I watch them every minute. And this is after building a concert block courtyard when they were small that is seven feet tall, and I have seen them close to the top after something. So far this year they have killed three rabbits, two snakes and a possum and went after a huge raccoon. Thet are a big problem kids, but I love them.

I have a Jack Russell crossed with a pomeranian and a shitzu, we have mastered pooping outside but the pee is a whole other issue. We just got him 3 weeks ago, he was a rescue from a neighbors apartment. She gave us pee pads and the essentials with him but when we set down the pads for him to pee, even if it's in the same spot he has peed in...he tears up the pee pads. Thankfully we have all tile flooring but still, 3 weeks later and it's getting insane. Any ideas? We even take him out every hour and it's still happening.

My JR puppy bites us in the face she lunges & bites way to hard when playing. She’s sweet but has a streak. I’ve had 3 pit bulls in the past & they were so gentle & never never never did this. I recently lost my previous boy pit from Pancreatic Cancer which we had removed but it came back & Cushings disease so I thought I’d get a lap doggie this time. She’s super cute but I can’t trust her. Can anyone shed some light on this and is this normal for this breed? She does love people & other animals. She is 11 weeks old, I got her at 7 1/2wks. Thank you

My Jack Russell was an absolute sweetheart! Active as all hack but a more loving, loyal, beautiful dog I have not found or seen in any other breed! And intelligent and feisty as all heck! And yes we did go to puppy school! I lost my Jack Russell more than eight years ago now and my heart still aches for her! I'm in my sixties now and would love another Jack Russell but know I can't keep up with them anymore! But once you've experienced and loved a Jack Russell and been loved by a Jack Russell, you won't be able to settle for another type of dog! And I love all dogs. But a Jack Russell is something so special and irreplaceable!

we have a JRT that was.abandoned by her owner, and she would not.go anyone in the neighborhood until she met my son and she ran out of the abandon garage and into his arms. He brought her in the house and she's been with us now for 4 years and she was approximately 3 to 4 when we found her. She was the only dog in the home for 3 years and then my son got a pit bull.and he is now one years old. She only liked him for the first two weeks when he was a very small puppy and since then she just wants nothing at all to do with him. I feel so bad for him because she will bite him and aggressively bark at him, he cannot come out of the Argentina bedroom he shares with my son. And he is such a.good dog although he's a little hyper he is only one and he listens well. I'm just not sure what to do or if there is anything that would change her behavior

I had two at the same time. Talk about difficult. Key word CONSISTENT. Be that way and never give in. Don't punish, just show the proper way consistently. It did not take us long to get them both trained to go outside. 8 mos old now, they will whine if they have to go out. I keep them in an enclosure in our room at night. They do not like to poop or pee where they sleep or eat.

JRT is a naturally aggressive dog but not to their owner. You need to make sure to train them in at least basic obedience. That includes slapping them 1 or twice in their lifetime.LoL If you can do these things, you will have fun with your JRT for many years. They will not growl at you or threaten you or something like that. They will not touch things that you don't want them to touch. They will not follow all the time your command, they're stubborn dogs. But they understand you and they also understand if you're serious or not. lols 3 to 7 months of age, is crucial to them. They are the craziest, aggressive dog in the world. I have Belgian malinois, a rottweiler they are not even close to jack Russell. If JRT is 150 pounds, they're the most dangerous breed in the world.

I hope you find something that works for you! Try to teach them each a reliable down stay; make sure they aren't just playing boisterously (they can sound quite fierce but are actually not harming each other); and make sure they are getting enough exercise and aren't crated all day, as that will make them way more frustrated. Good luck, don't give up!

I just tell the owners that she doesn't play nice. She's a good girl with our 2 older cats, and was allowed to be around my flock of hens after just a few months with us.

This little rat dog is not gonna win against a pit, bully or a mastiff breed. I could see the charm in these creatures if they were not so yappy and they didn't think they could take down a bear. The facts are they can't. They will die. The end.

My neighbor has one of these and it never shuts up barking. A butterfly, a leaf, a sparrow, the neighbor's toddler making cute cooing noises...it's lunging at the fence and barking, snarling non stop yapping. I can't work in my garden without their dog lunging at the fence and death growling at me. The owner seems to find its behavior funny. I have a large pit bull, and he's well trained. He never lunges at fences, people or barks nonstop. But he is protective if the situation calls for it. I pity the day the neighbor's rat dog finally tunnels under our fence and gets in our yard because I'm not going to stop my dog from finishing it. I'm so sick of hearing it yap all night and all day. It's annoying. These dogs suck.
