Im blessed with my third Jack Russell. My beloved Rupert was 13 when puppy Nigel arrived. Having the older one be a perfect mentor was amazing. Nigel is great with all dogs and young and old people. Its a full time job giving him the exersize and stimulation he craves. He is a distance swimmer, he runs along side my bike and loves kayaking. After all that he still has zoomies😅. He barks trucks too much and we are working on our separation anxiety. Cheers to all you crazy Jack Russel owners😊
As always all points covered very well. I am in the fortunate position of never needing a crate as I'm part disabled and I'm at home and with my JRT 24/7. I also live by the sea on the east coast of England where he has a huge area to run around with plenty of wildlife: rabbits, deer etc. Zoomies is a word that any potential JRT owner will learn, as is following you around the house staring at you intently. The smooth coat type JRT does shed more than the longer coat types. All in all a great dog and quirky partner to have.
Hey Josh, loved hearing from Luna. Smart and funny little pooch you have there. Just got our third Jack last week. Have had them for 26 years, but it has been a very long time since we've raised a puppy. Holy cow. Everything you said is true, thanks for this comprehensive guide to prepping for puppyhood. You forgot to add how the new owners are supposed to get enough sleep! It's glorious madness, worth every minute of work and chaos.
ive has jacky crosses before but i pick up a pure bred jacky wednsday night omg in 48 hours she will be in my arms id love to see a video on how to deal with young pups this little lady is only 2 mnths old ive never had one so young before
So I’ve had over 20 JR’s over the years. I had 13 at one point. I used to show JR’s, now I just rescue them. I had 2 National Champions. Sat on several committees with different Terrier organizations. Even Chaired 1 or 2. Doesn’t mean I know everything, these dogs have unique personalities. They are very empathetic. I swear sometimes they understand english. The video gives solid advice. You can correct their behavior. My dogs I simply have to ask Sternly (Do not yell) (Do not use physical force) What did you do? Or simply No! If you use physical force and hurt them they will start to submissive pee. So now you have a mess to clean up and a frighten JR. This is not your average dog. You have to make sure the JR knows who’s the pack leader. There are several books on the subject. But JR’s will challenge you for pack position from time to time. No likes when the JR is in charge. Those dogs often end up at shelters. Super smart most of them. Super Hyper until age 7 or so. They do think they are 400lb monsters. Fearless and very tenacious. These are the most loving and loyal dogs. And when you have that relationship there is nothing they won’t learn to please you. Definitely socialize them with kids, ppl, and dogs or they can become very protective and jealous of others getting your attention. This can show up as peeing on your stuff. Showing aggression with other dogs and people. Acting Emo for days on end. Do not make this decision lightly Terriers aren’t for everyone. This is not the TV versions like Eddie from Frazier or Wishbone. Those are well trained JR’s. Be prepared and be patience. They are worth it. It’s the only dog breed I’ve owned for 30 plus years. And the only breed I’ll continue to own. I’m hooked. One last thing they have a codependent nature about them. You move they move.
We was advised to use a crate when Fendi(my jack)was a pup.Vet said it was good at first as it encourages them to get used to holding on till they get let out. That only lasted about 3 months but she still had occasionally accidents on the front door mat.So just moved the matt to the patio door to the back garden then outside.Took about a year before she was completely clean.Despite daily hour long walks during the week more weekends and goes to the pub with me she still does zoomies up and down the stairs then out to run around the garden,repeat...lol
Wow, we've been lucky. Had our ParsonTerrier/Chihuahua since puppy and now dog for past ten years. No digging, no chewing, etc. Was easy to potty train. The only issue has been repetitive barking when the door bell rings. We acknowledge her "notice" but she barks 2 minutes plus. Very dependant and sticks to us like glue. Fortunately she is able to go everywhere with us.
Just found your channel. It's very good . My Jack Russell is going on 4 months but I've only had him for 4 weeks . I've got him toilet trained. Now I'm just trying to stop him digging .. Watching your videos has been very helpful
One point worth mentioning, get your puppy use to being handled. Round the face, bottom, and paws especially. This will make grooming, nail clipping, bathing and vet visits much easier going forward.
A crate gives them security and a place that is thier own :) It also helps when u go somewhere..his toys and stuff are in there and his bed gives him security.
I have a 6 year old “Shorty Jack Russell” from day one she has been crated in a cat carrier. She knows when we go out she is in it because she loves to ride….afraid of looking out the-window ! it fits under my end table in the den so when she gets tired or needs a time out because the UPS man is at the door she has a safe place to go . I leave the door open and it is her choice. The carrier is her happy place. She sleeps in my bed and roams at will around the house. The small space is just the right size for a10 lb terrier. A carrier is small and easy to transport and you can run a seat belt thru the handle . Nora has to see me so I pit her in the back seat behind the front passenger seat. A very versatile solution!
Josh, Loved the segment. You & luna are very informative. Aggie is slèeping very well due to exercise and a busy dog, people social life. Im glad I've been able to make her have confidence with all breeds and the kids in the area love her...plays rugby union with them...ha ha. Keep up the good work
Got my girl yesterday. When you said they stick to you I was still shocked how much she loves being close to me and showing affection. Love how she wants to go away is her sign I need to go to the washroom.
Hope they do to. Thanks for the kind words. They are awesome dogs. Keep us posted if you end up adopting one!!!!! Thanks for watching as well. We appreciate it.!
Do you have a video addressing barking? I am adopting an adult (8 years) Jack from a shelter, he is extremely barky, it's a high pitched stress bark and hopefully that will change once he adapts. But my last jack barked a lot too, and I want to be prepared.
Glad I found your channel ….. I’m picking up my first JRT puppy 🐶 in a week. I’ve always had Beagles, and still have one. I’ve always been interested in JRTs so I’m very excited about training this new puppy! Great channel 🐶🤠

Our 6 year old male Jack Russell terrier ,when we let him out to go toilet he shows us how clever he is by ring barking all our palm trees around our yard 9 or 10 I think 😮oh they're not dead but all have been bitten and attacked by his silly temper. Recently he barks madly at us to go to our back door to let him out when we do he jumps half way up the outside of the fly screen door barking furiously at us so much we have to close the wooden door for him to stop. I think he needs help !! 🐶💙xxoo
Hi ! I have a Terrier she is half breed Terrier her father is a German Sheperd. My Jack Russell has been attcking my pitbull lately. He has become so aggressive and angry towards him...one minute he fine the next he willnattack my pitbull at any time. What can do tonstop this
I've owned and trained dogs ever since I was 23, I'm 61 now, but these video's just seem to do the opposite with me, it's putting me off getting a Jack Russel I'm sorry to say, all I read and hear are problems, problems and more problems and how to eventually adjust it???
Dang. Who are you talking too or reading that's got you thinking Jacks are bad or too much? They're awesome little dogs that are full of personality. They do some real cool jumps and zooms. Their smart as heck and will know if you yell or scold them. They want to please you!!

Nigel is an escape artist and escaped the crate and we never went back he absolutely hates crates

Sat on several committees with different Terrier organizations. Even Chaired 1 or 2. Doesn’t mean I know everything, these dogs have unique personalities. They are very empathetic.
I’m hooked.

Just found your channel. It's very good . My Jack Russell is going on 4 months but I've only had him for 4 weeks . I've got him toilet trained. Now I'm just trying to stop him digging .. Watching your videos has been very helpful
Thanks for subbing!
Try giving him a space to dig...also a he will dig when he's bored.
One point worth mentioning, get your puppy use to being handled. Round the face, bottom, and paws especially. This will make grooming, nail clipping, bathing and vet visits much easier going forward.
100% true
Especially the paws, clipping nails can be a real nightmare if they don't like it.
A crate gives them security and a place that is thier own :)
It also helps when u go somewhere..his toys and stuff are in there and his bed gives him security.
Hi my name is John and what is your opinion on getting a Jack Russell is it good to get them from breeders or a rescue center center?
We have 3 dogs, 1x giant, and 1x small, and the new puppy. They all free feed on quality dry food, available 24/7.
Never had a problem with digging, but mine does like hiding under the bed or sofa, and will hang out there for hours.
I just subscribed and I'm learning so much every thing you said is so true and I'm learning so much thanks

Love the hilarious Luna “comments”!!! They are definitely like little people❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much! We thought it was a nice addition and was hoping someone else liked it!
Luna looks like my JRT, Milo
For my dog. Kenneling her is for her own safety. She chews on things and loves stuffing.
There are dog toys that have no stuffing..my jack loves them :)
Hey man. Im going to have a 5month JRT. My uncle gave me one, so my question is, we have a cat. Any suggestions?
The bigger the yard the better. I have a invisable fence so they cannot dig under or crawl over. That way they can run and play all they want
How to protect from firework noise?
She is a gift from my freind and I named her Cheese she still a baby about 3 months old, and now she wreck everything like you said on this video when I was working at home I loss my internet and I saw she chewed it off so I got piss a little and punished her, now she is with her sister my other dog name Choco they get well but its hard for her to trained she wont listen and she ates like a piranah I cant give a food from my hand she almost bit and she ates so fast like iI said like a piranah they have a same size of bowl for their dog food but Cheese can finish it with in a minute while her sister Choco ates so slow and they get urged cause Choco likes to eat slow. I might need some help or do you have a video that I can follow so I can traine Cheese not to be so greedy for food and yes I alomst waste a 100 pieces of pooping mat cause I`m trying to train her to poop their but what she do was she pee on it and destroy it , that is why we put her with Choco right on our kitchen back door she can poop their anywhere she like cause my fiancee can washed it all the way to drain, sorry for my long comments cause I realy need some advise from you. Thank you
Omg my Jack loves his crate that’s his bed and he would rather be in his crate than in bed with mama .
Roughly how long does it take fir a puppy to sleep 7 or 8 hours through the night. Do they need to be taken out for the toilet during the night?
My jack russell is 10years old. i adopted
Him when he was 9', he is very protected
Of me & gets very aggressive what can i do'?

Hey Josh what’s your opinion on pitbulls
Mine’s not a full blooded Pit it’s mixed with a Catahoula Leopard Dog, but I’m just curious as to what you think about the breed?
The kids and recently got a terrior/ mix. I’ve never seen, nor heard of zoomies before. It’s hilarious, yet annoying at the same time.
Crates are cruel when they are older. When puppies ok as a teaching tool.
He has stuff to sell so I get why he makes it complicated. Get one, they're wonderful. If you want a chiller version look at terrier chihuahuas.
Couldnt watch....too fast....i felt out of breath😮
You could just talk less.
