I love your videos!!! Very informative!!! And Luna is a sweetheart 🥰 Our JRT is 10 and, honestly, still acts like he’s 5!!! He (Murphee) keeps us on our toes!! And the loyalty is soooo deep ❤️We’ve already made our minds up that that’s the only breed we’ll ever have🐶🐾💞 Please keep making these videos 😉☺️
I'm on my 3rd Jackie right now , he's 14 and will sadly be my last as i am 78 . I will say all 3 have been loving , loyal , and fiercely protective . They've been an absolute joy and the loves of my life. 🇬🇧
Absolutely. One word commands-sit, down, stay, and off are key with any dog. The difference between "Mama's home" in a monotone voice, and "Mama's home" with inflection and raised eyebrows gets a totally different reaction from terriers. I agree, a JRT prey drive is insatiable, that's why a Kong ball can be their focus for an entire day. In my experience, a Jack Russell will be the best and worst dog you will ever have.
I’m back again to relisten to this video. Our family dog is a JRT who is now 3 years old. He’s the best dog ever, but…..he isn’t a cuddle dog whatsoever. He’s so loving in all other ways, but he will not let you cuddle him. He starts tossing, wiggle and playing making it hard to hold. Once in a blue moon he will allow us to hold him, but he lays back showing his belly for a pet or two, then it’s over. No more…he’ll get really playful after letting you rub his belly. What a dog…what a wonderful, amazing dog he is. He’s brought nothing but joy to our family…
I am a brand new JRT owner. I've owned pits, labs, german shepherd, and Goldens. This will be my first small.dog. apparently small bit mighty after watching the video and reading the comments. Here's to a great bond with her!
I've been blessed, my Maltese/Poodle died at 17 which shattered me then my beautiful 4 yr old female JR arrived two months later already trained, obedient and so loyal that it's uncanny. She was rescued from a cruel SOB we were meant for each other.
My female JR was rescued and I am amazed at her obedience as well as her speed and hunting ability. She has caught low flying birds. Both times she jumped caught the bird in her mouth landed and let them go when I said "let it go!". The birds were as surprised as I was, I'm 70 and have had dogs since I was 4 she's the first Jack Russell and she's just amazing..
While my JRT has agility titles - when she is in the backyard and I call her to come in - she looks at me like she is saying, “Who is that woman and how does she know my name!”
"is a very manipulating dog" you hit the nail in the head.... i said that to a friend the other day and the answer was that dogs dont feel like humans do and they dont have the urge to manipulate..... i knew i was on the right🤭
My little girl arrived with the two abilities i.e. she listens and obeys every time I speak to her, she's amazing I've never had a dog like her. She was three years old when I adopted her and that's how she came.........I'm so lucky.
This man is the JRT whisperer! Dead on everything he described when it comes to reading the room and feeding off of energy. My JRT picks up on my energy immediately so I try to remain as mellow as possible. When I yell at my husband, she leaves immediately and walks into her crate.
I've never thought about limiting how many words I use when training commands. I must be a lucky dog owner because my terrier knows the difference between "lay down" (lay down in place wherever he is at that moment), "lay down on the bed" (lays down on his dog bed) , and "lay down on the couch" (where he jumps up on the couch and lays down on it). He's been able to differentiate those 3 commands since around 2 years old.
I have a 7 month old Jack Russel/Rat Terrier/Chihuahua. I watched many of your videos before getting him. Super helpful! Best advice: Give them what they need and you will have a best friend. I am experienced with big dogs but your content helped me understand the needs of these little guys. Thanks.
I LOVE how she looks at you so lovingly! I've had 3 JRT's & each one has been so different. My last one passed when she was 17, she was an amazing girl. The one I have now is 1 1/2 & is the fastest one I've ever had! We've spent time with a trainer & I will continue watching your videos for further help. Thanks for posting the videos!
I'm on my 3rd Jack Russel. Lost my first one who lived to be almost 20, my middle child is 13 and my baby is 3. Would never even consider owning another breed. I love the loyalty and love and knowing that I am their human. Love your channel!
my 15 year old best friend jack russel pased away last month and it's very hard i miss him so much, will be getting a 8 week old puppy jack russel on sunday, can't wait..
I’ve never had a Jack Russell. My sister got one, and me and him are best buddies. He knows I’ll play and train him. He’s excellent in every way except….he will ignore me when he wants to greet another dog or person. He will hang his head, tuck tail (tail will be wagging tucked), look back at me and continue to go toward the dog/person. He’s very kind dog, but I can’t trust him. He’s two years old now, excellent dog in every way. I’m listening….
Great video. From 6:18mins I felt so much better knowing I’m not the only one who’s JRT doesn’t listen whilst in hot squirrel pursuit :) very helpful video thank you!
I have 2 Jack russells, puppies, my first ones, not first puppies, lots of puppies first shot russells. They are so much fun. I am glad I found this site. They are a different bread. Lol, but you said about the prey drive and trying to get them away from things I really learned a lot from that. Thank you
I'm going to watch your videos as I can. I got a "chihuahua", a breed I've had since I was a little kid, only to find out he's clearly part JRT. His energy is so different and I'm lost. He's super protective like a chi, but he actually tries to bite my dad. Has bitten him and then will turn on me, and bite too. He has more energy than I know what to do with. I love him so much, but I often feel like I'm doing him a disservice being him mom. He needs more than I can give. I'll keep trying but I cry a lot at the thought of having to rehome or find a rescue.
I have a JRT schnauzer mix! Super Smart!!! She is very independent and determined! Once she sets her mind to something, that is it!! 8 weeks and taking to potty training like a champ!! What you taught me has helped tremendously! Thank you!! You are greatly appreciated!!
I have a 1 year old JR, had since 12 weeks, male, determined, stubborn. Follows me everywhere, like sits by the tub while I'm bathing. Will not leave my side. Cute at times. But hard to train. Will sit, stay, but will not come when called unless I have a treat. Lots of training still to do, if he will. Did I say he was stubborn & determined. 😊 But he a real good boy, just needs to listen more.
Please do not stop making these videos! They are so helpful and wonderful to watch and listen to. You have helped me so much! Thank you and may God bless you and your entire home! You make me smile and have faith in someone again! 🙏♥️🙌🏽😇
Quality of treats make a difference. Pay them well for training. Dry food/treats are minimum wage. Chicken/sausage/liver pieces arw high reward. Our JRT's recall massively improved now we take small pieces of high reward.
I’ve never used food to train a dog. Your voice and a leash is all you need. The dog understands positive and negative reinforcement (through voice and leash prompts) and I sure as hell aren’t going to wander around with a pocket full of food in order to get it to do something. These creatures aren’t dumb and they understand simplified, consistent commands.
@@oggyoggy1299 What breeds have you trained using this method? Congrats on using your voice! I’m sure my JRT wouldn’t be persuaded enough by just my voice to leave something interesting to come back to me!
this is great! i adopted a jrt in mexico. it had been a street dog for a year - running in a small pack of mostly jrts. he's been a challenge, but very sweet and smart!
Thanks for the heads up, I have an 8yr old and she's amazing, however I now have a puppy and starting to understand why he isn't half as sharp, I class myself as a new dog owner again Thanks
positivity is the best training. tons of love when they do right. and like he said, WALK THEM EVERY DAY! we walk atleast 3 miles every day at a MIN. atleast 13 miles 3 to 4 times a week! sometimes on nice days we will walk and swim up creeks a little over a mile. he will sleep for 2 days after lol
Love this video great information for me because I have a jack russell mixed with a German Shepard he's my everything but training was hard for him especially verbal ques
I'm a boxer guy myself but the gf has a JR. He's like 12 and a bit of a handful cause she didn't teach it everything from day one. I'm firm but know dogs. He knows he lays in his bed when we eat, then he might get a little treat. I can make him stop barking and sit roll over and shake. He's a good boy but you have to know what you're doing. Your vids points are spot on!
I lost my best friend remi in February, and i recently adopted a smooth coat JRT and a wire coat parsons both age 6 im really hoping to get them to obey
My jack jojo is very smart snd has been the best dog iv ever owned. I started training right after the weaning process. Now a hes gettin older "3yrs old" he wants to ignore me especially when its time to come in from exercise. If i scold him he gets aggressive, not biting bit just bucking and growling. Anyone know what i can do in this situation?
I live in a high rise with a great garden down stairs and it's full of rats so my JR she loves chasing them and can't wait to get down there She's not too good at catching them but she gets heaps of exercise chasing them. Her best friend is a greyhound watching them work together is great.
My Jack Russell doesn't listen to me 75% of the time. I spoiled him so much that he eats only people food, and he's so particular that we ate a ice cream sandwich strawberry and when we ate another one chocolate he didn't want it. He's such a spoiled brat, but I totally love him.
Mine was a rescue from a family that could not handle her. She came to a household with a fenced yard and other medium sized dogs. I never had the issues, that everybody complains about. I suspect the original family got ripped off. I think she was half JRT and half Parson Russell. She housebroke in a couple days. She followed what the other dogs did. Learned what the bell was for fast. She obviously became lead dog very fast. All females, so not much issue there either. Fought the cats. Lost often. I really cant complain. Barely needed a leash. She stuck to me like glue. Best dog I ever had. I used a special noise to get her attention and stop a bad behavior. She knew to stop if the special noise was made. Came when called. Lots of antics. You want antics from a JRT. Lots of hunting and digging too. Typical behavior.
When my Miniature Jack Russell is focused on a squirrel or lizard there is no getting him to stop. I have had people want to pet him and they call him and he will not lose focus at all. Milo's only issue is he won't look up. As soon as the squirrel climbs up he starts looking around but won't look up.
I have a jack russel x pug. He's great with crates, sit, wait, speak, up, down. Absolutely shocking at come if he's outside or heavily distracted. Def agree with manipulative lol he'll go find a bit of junk the kids might have found so they'd trade him so he'd give it back...now he expects a trade to drop it lol but come is my biggest concern, id love to let him off at a dog beach because he loves the water but he can't be trusted
I adopted my baby a month ago, and he’s so adorable. The only thing is, we have a huge shedding problem. Do you have any tips regarding controlling shedding?
I couldn’t believe how much my Jack shed. Such a little dog, such unbelievable amounts of fur. I used to wear a lot of black- forget it. Duvet covers in medium to darker colours - forget it. He wants to sit on the laps of all my friends - forget it. As for the car, well there are balls of hair everywhere. It’s driven me mad. If only I’d known. Do I love him? Oh boy, do I love him!💕. But the hair still drives me bananas. Any top tips very welcome…
I have a problem with my 1,3 year old JRT. He is a very good boy at several things, but when he gets in the mood for playing and wants to play/fight, it is almost impossible to make him stop. He just swing his tail as if he think it is a game. Please throw me your best advice, it will be mostly appreciated since I love my dear Boy
Our 6 month old JRT is so hyperactive, he never wants to just sit in your lap and he never gets tired, I chased him for four hours, and he was still ready to go, what do I do? Is he lost hope? He’s only a baby
I really need some help with my Jack Russell. I got him as a puppy 3 months old. He is very smart and obeys for the most part. My problem is treats and bones. He has attacked me twice now. He will be 1 years old on 4/20/2023. I was going too get him fixed as a puppy, but was told he needed too adult a little more. So I have an appointment too get him fixed on the first of May. Just wondering what too do... Thank you.
I have a girl Russel, long hair, part Pit Bull and Jack Russel. She has the height, length of a Russel, the body shape of a pit bull. THis method works with her.
but how should I train her when she do wrong things? My jrt is already 2 yrs old but she still pees in rugs which she shouldn't but most of the time she pees in a potty tray. This is what im struggling with right now, and sometimes she poos outside the tray but lets say 1/10 instances only.
I grew up around all sort of animals and breeds of dogs. Someone offered me this 8-10 week jack puppy that was in terrible conditions, never been inside, slept in the mud covered in scabs with winter coming. I couldn't say no. Hes more challeging than any pup ive had but the 15% of the time hes not an absolute terrorist hes the sweatest little boy you ever did see. A massive pain in my ass and i havent regreted ot for a second. His name is gremlin, he is a shark with paws, and he is my boy.
Have you tried a harness that has a lead attachment on the front of the neck, rather than on top of main body. Helped a lot with my JR, ‘although it didn’t completely solve things.
Another great video thank you And I was thinking my Bella was so disobedient because when I let her run loose in the park the moment she decides to run after another dog or a squirrel it is as if I didn’t exist lol. The good news is she always comes back but ... not in a way that I can catch her easily. That is actually my problem catching her as she is intelligent enough to ignore treats she knows what’s coming. Usually it is the owner of the other dog that helps me catch her. Do you have a video on how to work them towards allowing us to clip them back in the leash after a run around / play with other dogs? And also in how to make them be ok with a harness and a raincoat / jumper. Bella hates anything other then a collar being placed on her body, she literally freezes and won’t move ... She is 7 months old. Thank you
Read about Bella and see my Jolly, behavior ABSOLUTE the SAME! People everywhere help me catch him, his SOO friendly love and adult and, esp. children , don't know WHAT TO DO ! I adopt he from the Shelter, was 4 months now hes 9 months.
Thank you for the help on taking my JRT and get him tired before being around other dogs . He has a problem with aggression when greeting other dogs . TfS
My little Fendi is 4 now,she is fine with sitting on command, stay and giving me her paw, house training was no problem, but she is very noisy. Does not help that there are quite a few foxes in the gardens at night, which off course she wants to go and chase. Also very jealous, any attention given to other dogs and straight away barks.
Have you tried a citronella collar? I use it on my Jack for garden play, when I don’t want the entire neighbourhood to hear my Jack barking at just about anything that moves. A life saver.
Excuse me, buddy, do you have a Instagram? Where we can chat about the dogs? Because I have a dog and I don't know. If it's a Jack Russell, they say it is but don't really look Too Much like it. I mean, I haven't seen it in a long time.
My puppy is nearly 5 months old and she's started humping humping pillows and her soft toys 🧸 😳. Is that normal? And since she likes leaving the yard whenever the door is open I'm worried that next she'll run off with a lover 😕

I just love the way she looks at you.
I've been blessed, my Maltese/Poodle died at 17 which shattered me then my beautiful 4 yr old female JR arrived two months later already trained, obedient and so loyal that it's uncanny. She was rescued from a cruel SOB we were meant for each other.

I have two and they too have both caught birds. To the male, it was a game and he let it go, the female destroyed the one she caught . . .

I just love little Luna. So sweet the way she hangs on to your every word. That little girl adours you.
"is a very manipulating dog" you hit the nail in the head.... i said that to a friend the other day and the answer was that dogs dont feel like humans do and they dont have the urge to manipulate..... i knew i was on the right🤭
Your right 😊

To counter this issue, there are cages you can get for husbands.

My Jack Russell total drama queen, obedient, full energy, huffy, likes to please,18mth now, thumbs up on training advice.
Same as mine ,drama when went to park 😅
"Manipulative dogs"😂😂😂😂😂😂 pretty much sums up my jack russell😂😂❤

would like to find a reputable breeder for short hair jacks. All Amish puppy mills around us. Never know what you're getting there. Any help??

Mine neither. I would love to see him run free in the park- but he’d run into the sunset and beyond, despite all my efforts to train him.

Brushing helps and bathing. They hate bathing, so don't over do it.
You said it yourself. He's only a baby. He will calm with age. ❤
You should invest a little bit in your audio. Btw i love your channel...
Mine thinks shes the boss at 10 weeks old. She doesn't understand No and bites and nips everyone. She is fearless
Love my adopted jack russell, hes a blast but now he wont use the dog door, pissing in house.
but how should I train her when she do wrong things?
Can you train after a year? I have a 12 month Jack Russell and she’s not so good at taking walks she wants to run the whole time.
Have you tried a harness that has a lead attachment on the front of the neck, rather than on top of main body. Helped a lot with my JR, ‘although it didn’t completely solve things.
Yes you can. My JRT pulled for 8 years. You can retrain easily. Dogs can always learn. Use treats to lure. There's lots of advice online. ❤
Another great video thank you
And I was thinking my Bella was so disobedient because when I let her run loose in the park the moment she decides to run after another dog or a squirrel it is as if I didn’t exist lol.
I adopt he from the Shelter, was 4 months now hes 9 months.
buy a dog whistle , it works with my jrt. i got mother and daughter.good lack from poland.
I have a jack Russell he loves to bite but hes very cute and small
my Jack uses hand signals better than verbal comands
my jr do not like other dogs, always been a loner in a old age home how do i chnage him
Thank you for the help on taking my JRT and get him tired before being around other dogs . He has a problem with aggression when greeting other dogs . TfS
I love j.r ❤ lions heart in small body
My little Fendi is 4 now,she is fine with sitting on command, stay and giving me her paw, house training was no problem, but she is very noisy. Does not help that there are quite a few foxes in the gardens at night, which off course she wants to go and chase. Also very jealous, any attention given to other dogs and straight away barks.
Have you tried a citronella collar? I use it on my Jack for garden play, when I don’t want the entire neighbourhood to hear my Jack barking at just about anything that moves. A life saver.
Mine has the body of a Fiat and the motor of a Lamborghini
How about clipping there nails
Impossible with mine. Costs a fortune.
Never had to do it ever. Walking and running and digging took care of it for me. Nails were always worn down to nubs.
Mine only comes if we offer him a carrot in Spanish.
But he s trained all around.
Even hand signals.
My JRT doesn’t sleep!!! She’s 4/5 months old and she is wired! I walk, walk, tug. She doesn’t fetch. Not interested in balls. Help!
Is it wrong to take Jack Russell puppy out of the crate for potty during the night?
I just got a Jack terrier yesterday....she's 3 year old. Fixed shots. But no training on commands. How hard to train a 3 year old??
I just got a Jack puppy. All she wants to do is chew on me and growl.
Where does she sleep
Mine would sleep on the bed with me. Under the covers, head a pillow like a person.
Excuse me, buddy, do you have a Instagram? Where we can chat about the dogs? Because I have a dog and I don't know. If it's a Jack Russell, they say it is but don't really look Too Much like it. I mean, I haven't seen it in a long time.
What about the nipping?
My puppy is nearly 5 months old and she's started humping humping pillows and her soft toys 🧸 😳. Is that normal? And since she likes leaving the yard whenever the door is open I'm worried that next she'll run off with a lover 😕
I just got mine and it took me only a day to teach her how to flush the toilet, shes 3 months old
I am so frustrated. I caged my 1 year old JRT in his cage for few days already.
I am a bad owner and my dog is crazy😂. Luckily for me she loves people and kids but not dogs.
Sadly my jack Russell died he's no longer with me
He'll be remembered for sure, JRT is a unique breed.
So sorry!
@@LAmourDeViva thank you I have alot of memories of him his name is Coco
