    Every dog is different. All the personalities thoughts. Different. I am on my second JRT first one I had 16 years. Best dog I ever knew. House broke in 5 days. When he needed to go. He stood by the door and waited. He was only 6 weeks old when I brought him home. So basically 7 weeks old and standing at the door waiting to go outside. He figured out fetch, not to jump, not to chew, how to just not be a mess lol. Now I have a pup. She is 13 weeks old and is a bit harder than my first one lol. Still teaching her things. I have enjoyed your videos cuz I need some help at times with this individual lol. I got real lucky with the first one and now the second one is making me learn lol. Still lover her the same.

    These videos are great! I have a 9 yr old male, he has always been very polite - asks permission before jumping up on furniture, he is allowed on one corner of the sofa where he has a blanket, which minimizes doghair and cleaning. Just saying that you dont have to have a complete ban and miss the cuddles!

    I got my JR 12 years ago, he was owned by a local university and was a working dog. He could identify mice feces, and was involved in a study for birds of prey. The study lost their funding and so the 6 JR’s had to be rehomed. He is now 17 years old turning 18 this summer. When I first got him it was evident that he had never lived around a tv. Went wild when animals came on the tv, jumping up and barking at them. Do you know how many animals are on tv? I stared to use his chew toys to distract him, and he would shake them and growl deeply, this took over several years to finally get to where he wouldn’t be disturbed by the animals. I honestly think he thought they were real.
    He also has a bad habit which is difficult to break, he likes to do his poo on a hard surface, like the deck or the side walk. It’s my belief that because he lived in a kennel the first 6 years of his life, this is what he learned as normal. Also he is a runner, give him a chance and he will be gone in two seconds flat. Because my current home doesn’t have a fenced yard, he is on a chain when he goes out. He has been a constant joy in my life, with what we’ve lived through the last year, I’m so glad I had him. It would have been pretty darn lonely in quarantine without him, also when I got Covid, he kept me going. Made me get out of bed a few times a day, when I was soooo sick. I worry that he will go to that big park in the sky soon, but continue to feed him whole food (make my own) and give him cbd drops to help his joints. He is no longer able to jump up on furniture, but is still active when we go for walks and outside to play.

    I had the exact opposite experience potty training. I got my Jack Russell when he was eight weeks old. Two weeks later he'd already trained himself to whine at the door when he needed to go out. The bigger dogs we've had seem to have taken forever to potty train.

Maggie is 11 weeks old. I,ve had her a week. She is 11 weeks old. She is the rust color of the JR the eyes and tail of the pug. This dog is so smart! She had one accident on the kitchen floor. Only uses her wee wee pads. Holds poop and pee all night 10 hours. Extremely smart! Best of both worlds in looks!❤

    Thanks for the great advice. Our Jack is now 12 and finally showing signs of slowing down a bit. They need the boundaries and like kids do, if you give a hand, they’ll take an arm. We easily trained ours (with consistency)to do his business in one area of the yard. No furniture climbing either. He has been a joy to have around the family and knows his place although there’s work involved for sure. 🐶

    I can't even begin to explain to people how much of a set schedule was needed for my JR. Like a hardcore routine without too much deviation if we didn't want peeing in the house and separation anxiety to become a problem. I don't know about other people but my pup badly wanted to play with other dogs as a pup and still does. So we sent him to daycare after he was evaluated as a candidate. The problem we run into is other people's dogs with 0 socialization.

    First, I love ur baby. Second, I wish I would have known about you 11 years ago seriously. One thing that hit me personally was to make sure you get the correct equipment for ur JRT. I have so much guilt about never walking my baby because she managed to escape 3-4 harnesses when I first found her and I nearly lost her to oncoming traffic. Now there’s no way I will walk her again. I’m so traumatized it’s a shame. The ramifications are everything u pointed out. She’s not socialized or exercised and is extremely jumpy when hearing loud noises and traffic and suffers from separation anxiety. So. My husband and I never go out together or have people over…in other words I did so many things wrong. I can tell u though Rama and her GS bro, Chief, are very happy dogs and enjoy their backyard and are so loved it’s kinda scary. Thanks so much for all you do for these spectacular creatures. I believe they are the best breed ever!

    I rescued a JRT/Shepherd mix in August. She will be 6 months on Dec 20th and was just spayed Monday. Totally lucked out on potty training. It's like she has the Shepherd smarts and the JRT hunt/ digging and energy. We have 2 other dogs, one older and 1 blind that she does well with indoors but in the yard she wants to herd/ control them🤦‍♀️We had to line our fenced yard with mountain rocks so she couldn't dig under. she listenes well to many commands unless a squirell is in sight then I am ignored unless I get right up next to her. So far she just watches intently, no chase. She is finally leash walking ok and doesn't react badly to other dogs but fears 2 plant pots in a yard on our usual walk and must go way out around them, why I do not know🤷‍♀️ Schedule is huge to her! She will tug my pant legs if I'm 5 min late for dinner feeding. She is a love bug and follows me everywhere. Your videos have been a huge help. I had a Shepherd/ Beagle mix as a kid who looked almost exactly like her and figured there wouldn't be much difference in personality...haha wrong! Her JRT enthusiasm/ zoomies and quirks are a whole new ball game figuratively and litteraly 😆🐾💚

    My Cookie was a rescue puppy who was taken away from her mom way to soon. The foster mom had no idea how to feed a baby. So I rescued her from the foster mom. She was skin and bones poor baby. It didn't take long for me to fatten her up.
    Then I found out what I had. I had no clue how to raise a Jack Russell Terrier mix. That's why your channel is so important to people like me who have these adorable high prey drive, high energy, over the top love and jealousy. But, gentle soft mouth amazing fur babies. Who love the feral cats we feed, and loves the Bark Patrol my name for my caregivers 5 mixed dogs. She's a rescuer too. So Cookie gets lots of dog socialization. I take her every where possible. To the grocery store mostly. She has her service dog in training vest. Which is what my goal is. To make her a real therapy dog for my PTSD

      @oldgamerchick.Great idea re. the PTSD. I have it, too. My dog has really helped me. Sometimes too full on and then I wonder what I’ve taken on and why I didn’t get a less high energy dog, but they’re so intelligent, and make you get out of bed. Also, great fur babies. I had no idea til I got mine just how affectionate Jack Russells can be. Of course, they need a lot of work put in that’s for sure, but that’s a good focus fir me. He gives me the love I need when having a bad day - and he makes me laugh! Good luck - not always easy with a Jack, but I think they’re great medicine for mental health problems. Thanks fir sharing yr story.👍

We love our Jack Russell but we are in our mid/late 50's and I didn't know how much they love to run and play. He's 8 1/2 months old, potty trained, kennel trained and so very loyal and loving. @@jodie01 Thanks for that. It was so kind of you to go to such trouble. I think I was having a particularly difficult day when I posted.
      Following being neutered he was hyper - but I hadn’t realised that some dogs produce a huge amount of hormones very briefly following the procedure.… A new one on me.
      He has since become gradually calmer.
      He gets lots of mental stimulation - In fact we’ve just come in from a short training walk.
      Im also lucky enough to have a neighbour who can help out - tho at the moment she has Omicron ( but doing okay 🤞).
      As everything now is beginning to shut down ( I’m London based) as we start the huge surge of cases, there will be no puppy classes for a while. I’d already tried to enrol when I first got him, but without success, as so many people wanting classes, having got pups during Covid.
      Anyway, fingers crossed we are now doing better - and he now has his very own digging patch in the garden! What terrier isn’t pleased to dig - and dig.
      So, still the challenge of distractions in the park, but Im hopeful.
      Someone recently reminded me that I managed with my last dog - terrier/ collie cross, so I’ll keep on ploughing away - he’s a very loving and affectionate little soul - never bites or snaps - so I have that to help. Fingers crossed that we’ve got across a ( very large) hump. He’ll always be a high energy dog of course, but now I feel I’m travelling in hope… Many thanks again Jodie.

    "Whining in a crate", or caging as we call it in the animal misery business. Cos dogs love to be crated, or removed from freedom. Why are dog crates an acceptable thing? It's like someone thought it would be nice to have a dog, but only restricted to a crate until it was dog time. Then back to crate, now dog time. Those people suck. Dog crates are evil.

    • @judith2070
      @judith2070 3 года назад

      I dont think i Suck:):) and i have a crate it calms my pup down, i can eat in peace and when its sleeping time she have her own crate by my bed. its a good method to learn them to calm down,to not walk around( in me) 24 hours in a day. and if she is older
      i will let the crate open if she understand that she doesnt have to follow me every minute or scream her lungs off when iam out of her vision,,. so yes i like crates use them before and so long you dont use them for hours its fine.

    • @kaysussex4991

      Dog crates are fine if used properly, my JR only goes in her crate at night or if I have to go out without her for a couple of hours( I work at home)I have a black labrador who stays in the room with her whenever she’s crated (I never crate him because he’s never needed it) and keeps her calm

      I don’t believe in crate training either, it seems cruel.

    • @joanneg.6226
      @joanneg.6226 3 года назад +1

      If you think of a crate from a human point of view, they are cruel, but from the dog's point of view, they are great. Dogs are pack animals (why they love being with you) plus they naturally prefer a den. If you don't provide one for the dog, they will make one of their own (e.g. under your bed). It keeps them calm by limiting the amount of area they have to 'guard'. Please don't stress your dog by not using a crate at appropriate times.
