My Jack Russell was the most sweetest little man, we miss him dearly he passed away years ago, Jake was special he would curl up with his head on my leg on the sofa at night, I was not well one night and had to call an ambulance he never left my side kept trying to lie on my tummy, ended up that I had a urinal tract infection I think he new there was something wrong, he was a quiet dog brilliant with everyone until one night I was sitting on sofa he was next to me and a man walked into our house, Jake jump of sofa and got between us his hair was up his back and his teeth were bared all I heard was this low growl, the man started walking backwards and he said he was sorry he got the wrong house, after this he went into kitchen and sat next to the treat cupboard, these wee dogs are very intelligent loyal and loving, we didn't replace him because we thought we would not get another like him ❤️❤️

My little Rumi is 4 months old, from a rescue group. After I brought him home my grown children were concerned that we were a poor match; I’m 72 and he’s high energy!
Well, he’s adapted to my pace, I’ve become stronger and I’m still finding more ways for him to run.
Our latest trick is for him to run circles around me while I hold a 25 foot rope attached to his harness. If I hold the rope over my head with my hand in a loop, I can stand still and not get tangled up or dizzy. When I drop my arm he winds all the way around me to a stop. Then I tell him to unwind, which he does, then stops to receive his treat!
      What a blast!

We lost our wee man Eddy 2 years ago as well he’s missed something shocking. Unfortunately I have a chronic illness and I sit with my legs up with my knees close to my chest it give me some ease from pain for a while and he used to jump up on the sofa and slowly walk up and gently put his head on my foot or my leg depending on what way I was sitting as if he knew I was in pain. As I said he’s gone 2 years but a few times since I have felt his head on my foot or leg as he did when alive We also have seen him out of the corner of our eyes for a split second I think he calls in to keep an eye on us.

My youngest was rescued by myself and other half she had an awful start to her life and was lucky to survive she shows that she loves me all the time and wants fuss but then all of a sudden she will switch to a psychotic little monster and attack, I ignore this behaviour because we know she has brain development problems so gets confused as she then goes crazy and licks me frantically as if to say I didn't mean it mum please cuddle me. She is special in more ways than one and I will always be there for her unlike the POS we rescued her from.

My grandmother lives with us and she tells us things Dakota does before we walk through the door. Also is excitement pees a Jack Russell thing?? This is my first Jack Russell.

    • @Vanessa-zu5tn

Dogs have incredible hearing. An average dog can easily hear a quarter of a mile away. And, all cars have unique sounds to them, your Dakota most likely knows the sound of your specific car. I know our Jack Russell, Daisy, uncontrollably starts up about a solid 5 minutes before my daughter walk through the door.

@@jessicaaubrey9138 Yes, on occasion. My daughter is Daisy's person. Daisy would do anything for her. So, when she has gone on vacation or has come back on break from college, It's just to much for Daisy. And yes she tinkles. Not all the time when she is exited, but enough that we have a saying for her when she does it. We call it a "whoopsie Daisy"🙂

As a 73 year old Man, I have had many dogs inmy life. But the one that stays dear in my heart, was my very first Jack Russel which was given to me, as an unexpected gift, thus a totally unprepared surprise. I called him Toby. He was a wire haired dog, meaning corse coat. When he was 11 months old, we had a particular hot day, and I decided to take him down to the beach. At this stage, he had never set eyes on the ocean. The Designated dog beach that day was crowded, with hundreds of dogs, all shapes/sizes/temperment. . The water was 50 yards away, he took off in a dead straight beeline for the water, taking no notice of any other dog, he ran straight into the water where it was breaking and was submerged. Oh No, I thought, now he'll be scared of water forever. Eventuall y his small head surfaced above the water, he shook off the water, looked around to gain his bearings, and started to swim back and forth along the shore line just far enough out to miss the breakers. He did this for a good half hour, then came ashore, dug a hole in the sandy beach, rolled in it to dry himself off, and then laid down beside me. From that day onwards, there was no way ANYONE would stop him from swimming whever he got the chance. In his later years, he contracted Cancer, unbeknown to us, we had him checked out, but Vet did not have a clue as to what was wrong with him. We could see, he was in terrible pain from time to time as he just stood there and shivered uncontrolably. We gave him prescribed medication which seemed to reduce the shivering(pain). My son gave us a wading pool he had no further use for. I filled it up, jumped in everyday and took Toby in with me. He'd swim 8-10 laps, then come into my arms for a rest, then do it all over again for half an hour. The swimming seemed to be the highest point in his day. Eventually his illness became to severe, and I sought alternative advice. An Xray was taken, and a dark tumor identified near his bowel. I was given the price of operating with no views on outcome. I sought alternative advice, and took him to my daughter's Vet, 500 miles away, who promised to charge a reasonable fee. The day I took him in, he was suffering badly from the pain. Three hours later, the Vet rang to advise me the tumour had attached it'self to his Bowel, cutting the blood supply to that, and cause the effected part of the bowel to die. There was nothing that could be done to save him. Thus he was allowed to pass with recovering from the anesthesia. My regret to this day, as I could not say my goodbyes to him before he passed. I've been a sucker for Jack Russells ever since. I adopted a rescue later, who was also an absolutely brilliant Jacky, but he wasn't keen on the water as Toby was. This dog also contracted cancerous tumour which effected his appetite, and caused him to eat anything,at any opportunity causing excessive weight, eventually, things became to bad and he couldn't move around to much, and found it difficult to breathe, so again off to the Vets to say our goodbyes once more. This time I was really cut up far worse that the previous time, could not contemplate getting another. The sadness and depression took much longer this time to dissipitate. 9 months on, I felt I was ready for another. However, events due to COVID and the recovery, had caused a shortage of small dogs, and it proved very hard to find an adult to adopt. I eventually settled on a puppy, 6.5 weeks old. Have no regrets, though the toilet training is proving to be a handful. He's a delighful little chap.

So cute! They are just the neatest little dogs. My parents and I lost our part Jack Russell Terrier/part Poodle "Maggie" almost 4 months ago. She got diagnosed with congestive heart failure/enlarged heart in Oct of 2020. She lasted just a little over a year on the medicine for it. She was there for me 6 years ago, when I lost my other two dogs. She really helped me a lot, during both of those difficult times. She lost my aunt in Aug of 2015, so I was there for her while she was grieving, and she was there for me as I was grieving. I still very much feel her presence too, as do I with my other two dogs as well. Maggie was one of a kind. She loved going bye bye. She went with my dad quite a bit to his mom's, the last couple of years of her life. She loved going to her grandma's. Than she went with my parents and I, on our out of town flea market trips, that we take about twice a year, and she loved it. Last year, we were able to go 4 times, so she went with us all 4 times. She was the first dog, we ever took with us on our out of town trips. So she was rotten lol! When we first got her, she didn't want anything to do with going bye bye. What it was is after my aunt passed away, she was afraid that if she went in the car, that we were going to get rid of her. My dad told me, he said we need to work with her a little bit at a time, and get her used to going car riding, and boy when she learned that she could trust us, she was ready to go every time we were heading out that door lol! Man I miss her so much!

It was a great moment when I realized my JR indicated he knew my name . He was watching a conversation I was having with a friend who said my name and my JR moved his head and looked at me as if he was waiting for my response.
I'm convinced it shifted our relationship. I now know he understands far more than had originally thought and I understand his needs when he
communicates them ... Right now he's snoring very loudly.

We rescue adopted a Jack Russell/Yorkie mix about 1-1/2 years ago, just before her 4th birthday. We quickly learned how dominant the Jack Russell genetics were over the Yorkie genetics. She's easily 90% Jack Russell. The only part of her that resembles a Yorkie is that her ears stand up most of the time.
At first we weren't sure if she was even a little bit smart. As time passed, she learned to anticipate everything about our daily routines. We're retired and have a house that has multiple possible routes from any area to another. She knows by the time of day which route we're most likely to take. She DEFINITELY knows who Mom and Dad are and she gets very excited when one of us returns after leaving the house. If she's not on squirrel patrol she's in my wife's lap unless she isn't home, in which case I become the preferred second string doggie parent. Being a Jack Russell mix, she also exhibits the JR trait of being very stubborn and learning what SHE wants to learn.

You missed a big one. Our JRT normally has his ears perked up. However, when he sees someone he really likes or has missed, both ears appear to drop down and he looks like he’s trying to smile. He remains with that appearance until he gets right up close and begins to shower you with his affection.

Sure there are other dog breeds that are just as good as the Jack Russel terrier. Are there dog breeds that are better than the Jack Russel terrier? In my opinion No, there is no better all around breed of dog. If a Jack Russel terrier can't do it, then you don't need a dog to do the task you are trying. Best dog I ever had. The King of terriers. Loyal, fearless, super smart and fast and agile. What more would you need in a dog breed. When I had my Samantha there is no amount of money that has been printed that I would have traded her for. I probably would punch your face for suggesting such a trade in the first place. It would be like offering me money for my mother.

I have had the great pleasure to have been blessed by 2, Buddy and Rusty. Buddy was 13 when he passed because cancer behind the right eye, Rusty is a short legged powerhouse that has so much love for the wife and he is our 5year old kid. So hopefully he will live a long and happy life. When Buddy passed i was lost without him around to help me with my PTSD. My wife was aware of what was going on with me and she went on the hunt for a JRT where I live in Canada Alberta there are none to be found and if one is the price is out of this world so she called her son in Ontario and after about a year Rusty was found on a farm. Rusty is a 1 in a 1000 find as he is according to the Vet he is 100% JRT by blood tests. Anyhow he is a super dog that makes me and the wife happy and safe.

He loves to lick my face and ears. When I come home he yelps and runs around comes and jumps up to me then goes and runs around and yelps and will do this about 4 or 5 times until he calms down. Also he always checks what clothes Im putting on in the morning to get an idea as to what I will probably be doing that day, so smart.
