    Wow, that's a killer snare sound. This andrew scheps series is off the chain, I could watch them all day

    Nice! That makes complete sense. It's a great way to de-emphasize the ringing.

    Just used this trick on my mix. Opened up so much room for my main snare to breathe alongside a drumroll track. Thanks man keep these awesome tutorials coming!

    Great tip and a simple and perfect explanation. I’d only add that is key to tune the reverb pre-delay time not to hear twice the transients when blending.

    What's Andrew's philosophy on Claps? Does he bus them to Snare Aux or Percussion Aux?
    Also, wouldn't he put Claps in his Snare Drum Reverb if it was a song with claps that function like a snare??

  • @santibanks
    @santibanks 3 года назад

    The easier way to do this is by just taking a reverb with a Nonlinear or Gated Reverb algo. I love using that on snare and toms, not for that huge obvious 80ies gated drum sound, but to get a good ambience going without it being in the way. The short decay time on these algo's take good care for that and they accent the hits well if the pre-delay and volume are set right. So my overheads will go to a regular room like reverb and either the snare top or bottom plus the toms go to the gated/nonlin reverb. Those verbs are bussed back to the drum bus where they are affected by the compression. AMS RMX16 is perfect for that (the real deal, UAD, 500 series, impulses, all go and will work…)

    • @cl9826
      @cl9826 9 месяцев назад

      Yeah but that's two different things. Gating the reverb signal and cutting it short vs gating the direct signal and letting the reverb decay naturally

  • @bwhog
    @bwhog 3 года назад

    So the verb allows more of the snare to be heard from the stereo field because of the pre-delay, giving the snare more of a quality of reflecting off the walls next to you rather than you hearing the direct sound. (Almost a slap back but with more character.)

    We’re the timings you used tailored to the tempo of the song, or are you suggesting these times specifically?

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  3 года назад +1

      Andrew Scheps uses these specific times regardless of the tempo.

    Hi Joe! Is the gate inserted on reverb bus, or into snare channel?

    • @8bit_misfit
      @8bit_misfit 3 года назад +1

      Looks like it’s on the reverb bus, and then Valhalla because he’s muting the actual snare part in the beginning.

  • @sukhjeetchaggar8028

    Hey Joe! Great demonstration. Just a quick question, this is reverb is in addition to the amount of compression he does on the drums right ? Cos he explains it that he compresses so much the he uses very little reverb. So just confirming that.
    Keep the content up man, you're doing a great job.

    • @GreenLightSound
      @GreenLightSound  3 года назад +1

      Right, the reverb is in addition to the compression. Sometimes it's just brought in on choruses to fill out the snare a bit more.

  • @andyaltadonna
