I very nearly bought a Lexus IS200 that on the face of it looked like a new car. Low mileage and so on. I shoved my mobile phone underneath and took some pictures. There were actually holes in the chassis the rust was so bad. A good phone camera saved me a LOT of headaches. I walked away. The seller was not happy.
The Take away lesson here is, steel rusts, especially when subjected to moisture, water , road soalt/brine. Do not use - dealer type Undercoatings such as rubberized asphalt. Have your vehicle Rustproofed with products like : Krown Rust Control's T40 , Rustcheck, Fluid Film , Wool Wax , Corrosion Free Rust Cure Formula 3000. and get something like a Husky liner OR a WeatherTech Mat in the car from the day it's new. You can keep the rust to a minimum after 15-20 years, but if the floor pan rots outside from salt and water from your shoes/boots , the car still bites the dust. Have the exterior and underbody washed in spring. Spray them them in early to late spring. Get a aerosol can and touch up your wheel arches and pinch welds and other areas of the car from time to time, spray the grounds , battery cables. A little effort goes a long way in keeping cars from rotting out.
Sand and Salt is the killer for me as I live coastal, I found a guy selling a chassis rail cleaning unit, called chassis protech. Game changer for me it takes two minutes plugged into my garden hose when I get back from the beach, saves me getting under the car, laying in the water and getting soaked, more time for me!
Dealing with this on my 2008 hyundai Tiburon…almost perfect condition inside and out with 0 rust after 14 years, rust proofed almost yearly and just this year had a rust spot develop on the unibody structure under the subframe mount and now the car might be done :) it’s rusted so fast in one small spot they mechanics mentioned it looked like a factory defect 👌🏼 thanks hyundai
I just went today to purchase a 2019 infinite Qx60 with only 4800 miles on it in new jersey we were about to sign until I looked under the suv and I saw rust underneath and I called my dad and he said not to buy it me and my wife was very sad because we loved that suv 😢
Just found out my 2007 Nissan Murano had subframe rust in the back tire area and it had completely broke off and I was driving with tilted wheels for months without knowing it was the subframe.
rust and was told it would be thousands in repairs lol. I'm gonna try do the repairs myself through winter in my workshop and save some money hopefully
@Juib Morrowind I parted out the car instead so it's not a total loss :) When I lifted the car it was pretty badly rotted out. It's the first gen Mazda 3 and after researching them it's a known fault with an older mazda..
I went to buy a 2020 Nissan Armada with 24K miles today from Columbia, Sc, discovered some serious rust under the car. Dealer almost got me. Smh, there was a serious of flooding last year in SC.
Dan 255 well a large part of it is simply easing the underside when driving in salty wet conditions and maintaining it that way . But yet it will also help ALOT if you take a day and use a power drill to get as much rust off the frame as possible and than use a rust converter product on the frame and than paint over that.
O.k, but what if the frame, or "sub-frame" and things like door stills and quarter panels like in a uni-body car described above rust from the inside out? I think pouring water in those small crevices will not help much and can even make things worse, I am not talking about body on frame trucks /cars where you could try to "flush" the frame out.
Well we got fooled in Georgia!!! and bought a car a week ago must have been from up north because the entire under body is rusted but they had painted over it a week later the car is in the shop because the entire wheel and frame separated from the car and fell off
My car at the time was 6 years old with 50,000 miles and it was so rusted out they couldn’t even jack it up to change a tire. The metal was literally crumbling like a cupcake. I had purchased it used 2 1/2 years before, it turned out it grew up in Detroit Michigan.
@@Joshiedatgamer I'm coming from the South in Alabama For my 1st trip to Michigan. Should I rent a car for December driving or will I be OK with mine for a few days. What are the best months to come for Michigan vacation to prevent any rust
Do you know what the dogs are for a brand new car being Rusty when u buy it.. straight from .. the shipping!! In Australia..? 🆘❌💯♨️⚠️⚠️NEW & RUSTY I have that same GWM tank300 .. I brought mine brand new FEB 1st 2024.. days later I looked underneath.. RUST COVERED. It was brand new 🆕. GWM responded “ yeh that’s normal and not our problem but urs for not taking care of it”!! How is this my fault if it was rusty before I brought it? Pls get all cars checked b4 buying . These tanks or all GWM vehicles are moved in open crates on ships 🚢 in the northern sea.🌊 some fall into the sea.. waves crash over . They also sit at sea waiting to dock for months , sometimes open to all elements. They are not rust proof at all! Nor made to be near ocean. $50,000 later and 6 mths later I’m still fighting this bulshit.! I’m in 🇦🇺 Aus. DONT BUY GWM anything . U WILL BE VERY SORRY 😢 AS I AM. My first new car dream smashed . Australia government aren’t motoring these cars anymore!!

One nice thing about living in California
Why doesn't Nissan/Infiniti recall for rusty unibody frames?
i have a 2003 Tiburon same thing happened i was getting ready to scrap it till i saw this
subframe already out do it your self get it welded stop wasting thousands.
People, take care of your cars, consumers are responsible too.
O.k. I'll lift my car up, cut open the sub-frame and scrape the rust off to prevent it from spreading.

Ipostle
Some do, but abrasive chemicals to treat roads can still cause rust
If people actually pay them shops to undercoat and rustproof there cars they would all be rust free
