I'm completely brand new to the world of Blender and 3D printing. And I've seen many "advanced" tutorials which have been challenging to follow. Yours though was completely easy to follow, gave me the exact desired effects without any back and forth! Spot on instructions! THANKS for sharing this straight forward workflow. Your style clearly works for the beginner!!!
Pro tip for 3D printing, you can add the modifiers before converting to mesh, keep the objects separate and just export both objects to STL and most slicers will still slice correctly. That way it’s very quick to make say 15 name signs for a party ;D
Why can i get my text tight around the cylinder ? when i get to the simpledeform mod.. it bends the text but it doesnt bend it enough around the cylinder. the ends are sticking out,, what the problem?
Could be the font being used, or it's density. Else you might need to use a couple of modifier instances to distort the text along multiple axes depending on the shape of the cylinder - it basically has to be perfectly round otherwise it won't match up properly.
@@KatsBits yes . i went back a few hours later . and had to re snap the 2 objects . and switch the z x to a negative . and it worked .. i was so happy . thank u for ur video
You're probably hitting the threshold of the operation, when that happens the, the text, or both will disappear. Only solution might be to reconfigure the set up to better accommodate what you're wanting. Trial and error basically!
The outcome of the operation is going to depend on the level of SubD and how 'clean' both meshes are with respect to that - messy topology typically results in fractures or incomplete Boolean so you'll need to do your best to clean it.
You mean the 'guideline'? Due to the way Boolean text works that ends up being place where it is relative to the objects being changed not necessarily the effect itself. IOW, placed somewhere else Boolean may have been non-functional.

100%! Applying modifiers beforehand ensures mesh structure doesn't get inadvertently borked during export/import/slicing, especially for FDM printing.
I am long overdue in finding your channel. Thanks! You're great at breaking down the process.
Great tutorial and I love how you use the green pencil to guide through the steps. Good job!
OMFG THIS SHOULD THAT HARD! tHANK YOU IT ACTUALLY WORKED
life saver! thank you so much!
Great tutorial! Thanks!
Well explained!!
excellent tutorial objective improve thnx
Thanks!
many thanks..
Thanks a lot!
You da boss bro

after the boolean i move the text and the empty into my cylinder but the cylinder disappears, whats the issue, thanks

@@KatsBits thank you
sorry, I want to add the text on the cylinder as if it were an engraving, I tried with bevel but the rounding is too small, good tutorial.
Flip the Boolean as further described here www.katsbits.com/codex/boolean-text-curves/
But what happeb if That mesh in sub D mode.. Because the topology is wrong

Very usefull tutorial .Just to me it should be better if you took a very fine line and circle around the word not underneeth .Just saying ;)

Ok, thats easy. But now you have a rather primitive model to which a subdivision modifier cant be applied to.
