    I want to thank you for keeping going with your work! I started using your Absolute Beginner videos 8 months ago to just learn some basics. Prior to that I've used F360 to make some simple boxes, and wanted to use blender now that I'm printing in resin to make some other things. There are all kinds of things I want to learn. I will surf your videos to see if you ever hit them. some things like #1below ive done in blender once by googling what i wanted to do, but i want a better guild/tutorial:
    1 - taking two objects, say a ball and a cup, and moving the ball so that it's inside the cup, then union them (think modular arms on an action figure to swap 1 for another)
    2 - creating a box, where we have lets say a 0.8mm thick wall around the edge with that wall being lets say 70mm high with a floor that's like 5mm thick), maybe some bevels so the box is stackable (3d print - tech design did a f360 tutorial but i need blender)
    3 - creating a box with a lid
    4 - embossing text onto an object (say you create a box w lid for your wife and want to emboss LOVE with a heart on it)
    5 - now that im doing resin, can blender hollow a model and create drain holes? I know MeshMixer can, but it crashes 900 times a session.
    btw, i know that #5 for FDM would be based on infill, but for resin it's completely different. you want to hollow the model and create drain holes then export the hollowed STL. the slicer (chitubox for example) can take a solid model, and hollow it AND do drain holes. However, their algorithm is sloppy and sometimes the drain holes are a pain to get right.

    Hi Professor, How to add different material/color for that displacement?

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  2 года назад

      Ah, that is tricky. Because you can't just boolean one or the other out or chances are you'll have sections that are so thin they won't print, or they'll print so think they kind of offend the slicer. So at this point you're taking the final mesh and then picking which parts you want one color by hand to separating that into a second mesh, thicken the two parts of it.... yeah, it's a whole thing. Not impossible, but very labor intensive.
      Or you can take it into PrusaSlicer and use their material paint options.

      Search Google for "Grayscale depthmap images".

    I used this tutorial to make dice. I uv unwrapped and exported the map into illustrator to set up where the numbers went. My problem is that the numbers have some jaggedness around the mesh where its flat like tiny mountain peaks. I was able to do what I wanted and the closer the numbers where to the mesh the less mountain peaks but I wanna make deep indents. Do you know how I can fix this or set up the exported uv so that doesn't happen?
    Admittedly I only watched part of the video when I was doing this and didn't desimate the numbers.

      That's an intersting way to do it. The problem with this sort of solution is that it can only displace the geometry is there. So diagonals do end up kinda jaggy. Unless it's doing something funny because your displacement texture has some speckles in it.
      You can make them deeper by changing the settings in the modifier.

      Same thing but the UV mapping can be tricky.
      Why do you want to displace a cube?

      It's just a tube for blowing through to control your breathing. Not necessary for most people, but helpful for those with ADHD or other conditions that sometimes makes it hard for them to keep control without something to remind them to, you know, breath.

      No, JPG should work fine, though you might get some compression artifacts.

    Jesus Christ this is fiddly. is there no professional software which focuses on 3D Printing and does that way easier without all that animation, rendering etc. stuff blender comes with ?

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor  Год назад

      None that I know of.
      To be fair, Blender is a little bit of everything, and as such is a lot of cludge. But you can't beat that price!

      @@3dpprofessor Happy new Year my American Fried!
      Thank you for the reply.
      I tried Meshmixer which is a great freeware but it is not being further developed anymore and constantly crashes.
      I then tried "Geomagic Freeform" which is basically Meshmixer but up to date and with more functions (not for free though) however it can not work with huge meshes.
      Now I am on my way to look into Zbrush which is promising but maaaan is this software huuge and complicated, I honestly don´t want to spend so much time learning it ( I am a mechanical engineer by profession and know CATIA, NX, Solidworks and Inventor)
      We also had Alian and 3DS May and Maya at my company but it would take me years learning any of those.
      Blender is even worse. I mean it is free yes but it is way to cumbersome the UI is confusing and what not.
      I also tried VR software as well but it isn´t really productive of great so far...
      IDK CAD is super easy but sculpting and working with meshes is not. CATIA is already somewhat complicated but Blender, Maya, 3DS, Zbrush is even worse.
      Maybe I should try 3Dcoat....
