Hello Peter, this is really a great material, I'm learning with your easy procedures. anyway do you have the part 2 of adding the materials like just in your introduction of this video. Thank you. appreciated much.
i have successfully done this using others tutorials, I have needed to revisit this topic from time to time. You video has some methods that are fantastic techniques to achieving desired results much faster. Great work, and Ill be the first to say it.. you sound like Barry O! Pleasant to receive instruction from. One last thing, when you put Karens name on the ring, I wish you solved the artifact problem, instead of switching to another font. Sometimes that isnt an option.
Peter I bought the blender gems add on and some pieces pop up and can be sized but some can’t be sized or they just don’t appear at all I made sure to un zip everything , plz help thank you boss
Excellent video! Is there a way to make the text dynamic? So then we can export the model, import that in some web tool and see the texts you are typing engraved on the ring.
Check to see if the Boolean function is turned on in the preferences-addon section of blender. If it is it will appear in the edit tab by default but you can move it where you like
Have you tried anything with Rhino and 2Shapes? Just curious if you have any experience with it...it looks like it might simplify quite a few processes and won't break the bank.
I have used rhino. I’ve used quite a few paid programs to be honest. Howeyit defeats the purpose of my channel by showing how you can use inexpensive 3D printers and free software and still create beautiful designs. I have never seen 2shapes
Peter Grande i totally love your blender tutorials! And I agree...ugh the cost of entry for so many of these programs are super steep. Who by chance do you use for your casting?? Especially since I think I saw you are in Florida :)
I don’t want to sound stupid. But I have to ask two questions. One I figured out the hard way. Is the modifier added to your model in object mode and not edit mode. And second. Did you apply it in object mode. I’d will not apply in edit mode.
Start with a new screen, and try following these procedures… Cutting Text out… Here are the steps I used… I’ve tried five different ways, and I can’t get it to fail… Create a cube, size it to the following … x=56mm, y=2mm, z=1.5mm Add a curve. Size it along x and y to 17.5 mm Apply a curve modifier to the cube (now elongated) so that the cube follows the shape of the curve. You size it along the x axis to make sure there is a small gap ( you could close it, but you don’t have to) Apply the modifier, but you don’t have to at this point. Ad your text, edit it, give it some thickness as shown in the video. After you have edited your text, make sure you are in object mode (not edit mode) and right click on the text, and convert it to a Mesh. With the text selected, add a modifier to the text to re-mesh. make sure you you uncheck the box to remove disconnected pieces. Change the Octree value to 8 apply the modifier Add a curve modifier to the remeshed text. Adjust the position now, select the text, hold the shift key, and select the ring(round object) Use the boolean tool to perform a difference… It should work. If it does, there may be some errors in your existing model.
Thank you very much...you changed my first approach...I'm a real beginner and i anderstand all... Big up from France... Free your Soul... 🤙
Another arrow added to my quiver of know-how. Thanks Peter.
Thank you very much for so clear and comprehensive explanation! Great!

On a website? I don’t know to be honest.
when rendering - i dont get the indent.
Sir, I seem to be missing the boolean tab.

@@watchesandjewelry Oh I think I found it. "Bool Tool". Thanks!
You’re welcome
Thanks to this comment. I was struggling the same too.

For whatever reason I can't get the remesh function to work for me in Blender 2.90.1, which is interfering with the end results. Any tips???

Whenever I press on difference, it doesn’t cut it into the ring . I followed every step an don’t understand. Can somebody help me?
Try selecting the text and press control -a. Align rotation and scale. Apply same to mesh. Then try the difference tool
Peter Grande alright thanks, will let you know if it works soon.
Peter Grande It did not work when applying rotation and scale to both meshes. Do I maybe have to clean up the mesh?
I’m doing a couple of examples not, seeing if I can get my model to do the same...
Start with a new screen, and try following these procedures…
Cutting Text out…
Here are the steps I used… I’ve tried five different ways, and I can’t get it to fail…
Create a cube, size it to the following …
x=56mm, y=2mm, z=1.5mm
Add a curve. Size it along x and y to 17.5 mm
Apply a curve modifier to the cube (now elongated) so that the cube follows the shape of the curve.
You size it along the x axis to make sure there is a small gap ( you could close it, but you don’t have to)
Apply the modifier, but you don’t have to at this point.
Change the Octree value to 8
apply the modifier
Add a curve modifier to the remeshed text. Adjust the position
now, select the text, hold the shift key, and select the ring(round object)
Use the boolean tool to perform a difference… It should work.
If it does, there may be some errors in your existing model.
Thanks Peter! Did you get my email?
Sorry. No I didn’t. Have been busy for 10 straight days since Florida seems to be returning to normal. I’ll go check
karen
very well explained, thx
