Allegedly, Cuctman was only able to create the original Last of Us because there were two other writers hammering his ideas into a functional narrative. Those writers were kicked out alongside Amy Hennig and Cuctman had full creative control over the sequel.
The same reason that caused the comic book crash is doing the same with video games. Even the award shows and conventions are biased with blacklisting and Twitter X wars. This is not how one should spend their past time.
was probably an editor or assistant. not him. believe it or not an employer doesn't fully know what all of his employees do. hence why entertainment is sabotaged today.
I like when people elect to list their pronouns professionally. Without a fail, people who tell you their pronouns are the least useful people in the room on any project you're working on. Kind of lets you know who to avoid.
I have no sympathy for them, they did that to themselves with embracing woke shit and their greedy ass practices and excessive microtransactions (raising the price of games to $70 and $80, live service + loot boxes + gambling + battlepass + shop with FOMO possibly ALL in the same fucking game) .. meanwhile indie studios like Pocket Pair (Palworld) are actually looking for more people to hire .. this is the FUTURE of games.
When you keep subverting expectations, the wallets begin to close. Fans wanted another Fallout or Elder Scrolls and we get Starfield...they keep pushing Girl Bosses and they suck.
No, it wasn't Starfield that was the problem. Fallout 76 came first. And Fallout 4 before that. If Starfield was announced right after Skyrim and New Vegas people would have been thrilled to see it. Fallout and Elder Scrolls had to start somewhere. The problem is the current people just aren't skilled enough.
Honestly not like Bethesda games were thst good to begin with. If You expected from a company of people who are proven inept at a polished product or even re-release, it's your own fault Giving them your money. But I guess the mods will fix it, just fine right?
Video games these days have become far too expensive for the experience they provide. Not only do these companies fail to provide a game that is more enjoyable to actually play myself than it would be to just watch someone else play it on RUclips or Twitch, they're all asking for $70-$120 in an economy where people can't afford a fucking Happy Meal at McDonalds.
They aren't too expensive to make. Games like Blasphamous 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, Palworld and numerous other titles are made with a budget less than 1 million. The offices are overbloated in big budget games with dozens of positions that can be simply removed with no loss of quality to the product.
@@jaysherman2615 I didn't say anything about the cost to make the games, I was talking about games that are too expensive for the average customer to purchase. All the games you mentioned are indie titles less than $50, not even within the range I was complaining about. Did you not read my entire comment or something? I genuinely don't know how you could have misinterpreted what I was talking about otherwise.
@@NineHundredDollarydoos Even then the price the user pays is not really an argument. There were games on the Sega Genesis and SNES that sold for $70 or $80 bucks back 30 years ago which translates to well over $120 bucks accounting for inflation. People were willing to pay that cash back then for a quality product. It isn't price since you can't get rid of these modern abominations called games for even 10 bucks now. The product is made by people who hate us and we refuse to buy accordingly.
This is what happens when HR and DEI sections of gaming companies become bloated, gain excessive power and suck all the resources destined to the actual creative sections. Woke is the death of creativity.
I'll be sitting in my chair and munching on popcorn while it happens. I have most of the old games I want, and can live without 99.99% of games now. Another comment brought this up and this is the exact same thing that happened with comics . The triple A market is crashing Double A and Indies will go on as usual as gamers choose to purchase games made with passion instead of overbudget cinematic slop
way more games release per month than in the past (which is good, more competition means a stronger industry) and social media weeds out bad games faster than ever before
They adopted the late Sears model of “The customer is wrong, they don’t know what they want, we aren’t the problem the customer is, they’ll buy what we make anyway don’t worry”. Then when they turn a multi billion dollar company into not a company they act like they tried everything to save it.
In the modern day, I never worry when I see rampant stupidity and anti-consumerism in my favourite industries, because I've learned the market always catches up. It was the same with online journalism, and social media, "don't get mad, just don't spend your money there, and wait for layoffs".
It's not a crash when games like palworld get so many sales. It's not a crash when half of all AAA companies haven't released a new game in 5+ years. It's not a crash when every years sportball resale for $60+ still makes a profit off normies who don't mind being scammed.
its mainly a crash of American gaming industry ..because these layoffs are 80% in America ...some in Europe ..and mostly those who have gone woke and/or overhired during COVID (usually both),,,and now when ESG/venture capital cash support is kinda gone and wont cover the risks in the same ways forces the companies to make changes (cleanup) to become profitable. ...the question is that are these changes enough/correct? well if not they will go bankrupt hopefully this "crash" will affect positively on the localization BS, as that has been the biggest issue for Japanese games
There is a 'western' gaming crash. Asia is doing better than ever, especially CN and KR. Since most of their games are not AAA, but are for mobile, people tend to ignore, but they're actually really high quality now.
Only graphically and a recent policy change hurt China gaming. Nintendo is also still doing well making profit with a low specc console selling more than 140m units plus quality games

The elephant in the room is interest rates. They over hired when it was fashionable and now with the $ crunch they need to make cuts. It’s the same in the TV and Film industry.

It's like how over in Star Wars the fans just decided to not like Star Wars. It's weird. They loved Star Wars right up to 2017 and then they just decided "We're done here." So strange how that happened. Completely out of the blew. Not like there was a movie that came out that December called The Last Jedi. But I am sure that is just a coincidence.
The budgets are so high that it's a gamble whether or not it will make any money, even if it sells millions. And they insult consumers. Along with the censorship and ruining stories for companies like SB inc. Who is going to buy the game if you insult fans and include censorship? Big movie companies are doing the same things and nobody is watching the movies, they just make everyone angry and they say "haha you're mad" and the film loses money, like disney/marvel. And when it lose money they say "WHY DIDNT YOU WATCH THE MOVIE, ITS THE FANS FAULT!!" It's a very toxic industry these days towards fans and consumers.
Believe it or not, even passenger aircraft pilots are hired based primarily on race, gender and sexual alignment. Even human lives are worth less than political agendas to them, they won't care about customer's satisfaction.
I remember Razorfist talking about a gaming collapse ages ago that the media completely ignored. It must be worse now if everyone is starting to see it.
Woke is part of it, but I think the economic downturn is even more of it. People have less disposable income for things like $80 video games. Meanwhile the employees need raises to maintain their standard of living vs inflation. If gaming weren't already pissing off cusomers with the woke stuff, then there might be more staying power - customers might be more attached to their games and make cuts on other things to keep buyi g games. But we were already seeing a slowdown before covid. Now that post covid, post Ukraine, post mass migration inflation is strangling the economy in general, luxuries like AAA gaming are going to get the axe first. Same for Hollywood and Disney.
I knew it, I have been calling this out at work MULTIPLE TIMES especially with all the live-service trash, bad game directions from garbage companies. The Day Before was the BIGGEST red flag of all this debacle.
In the last five years, there have been two great (Pathfinder Kingmaker and WotR) and three good (JA3, Baldur's Gate 3 and Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader) games. THAT'S IT! Notice how three out of the five were made by Owlcat.
I do believe women are most affected, but that's because they were overwhelmingly recent hires who were mostly only brought in to maintain a quota for blackrock. If Blackrock's money dries up then these companies don't need them anymore, simple as. It's the big downside of not being hired for your skills and why i would never accept a job as a token (x) person
All those millions of dollars just to turn their projects into buggy, piles of crap just shows you how much embezzling is happening in these "Gaming Companies"
One thing is that to fix the numbers you have to fire efficient employees and then hire these humanities people who somehow are less useful and more expensive. Remember, doing the right thing and saving humanity and being empathetic and nice and a decent human being and fixing historical injustices comes at a very, and I mean VERY, very, very-very hefty premium.
I left the industry around 2021 and got into Finance. The gaslighting and cult mentality is real in studios and publisher houses, it had it coming. If you're still makinf games, do yourself a favour and find an alternative source of income. It's a nice way of saying; find another job while you still can.
That's what they always were. They lied until they got power, and then pulled out the daggers. Just like every single other time in the past. Lie until you get power, then abuse it to make sure you keep power. A recent example: They used to say that 'gay is just a lifestyle choice you have to tolerate' (80s and 90s) and 'no one is arguing for gay marriage' (90s and early 2000s). Then, suddenly, anyone who said homosexuality was a lifestyle choice or who didn't support gay marriage was an evil bigot who got fired. Not even exaggerating; the founder of Mozilla was fired simply for donating to a political cause his commie woke bosses didn't like. That one scientist was fired from Google for correctly describing intelligence curves among men and women. There were many other, less famous examples.

The AAA gaming industry bubble finally burst a bit

Even then the price the user pays is not really an argument.

Most big AAA companies are low on cash. We can just kick back, relax and watch who goes down first. I would bet ubisoft.

Another comment brought this up and this is the exact same thing that happened with comics . Woke ESG and BRIDGE investors will be forced to pull out and the hobby will go back to being niche and as a result, the western studios and companies will fall while Japanese studios and small indies that acknowledge fanservice will survive.

I've always told her to focus on skills and tried to guide her to being happy in life rather than railroading her into the single career woman lifestyle, but like me she has always loved video games so she kinda had a mind of her own. Well, despite me telling her to focus on skills, she was one of the many women who wormed her way into a bureaucrat management position in one of these companies. Now she can't find a job because all of her experience is in general management rather than coding, level design, or anything actually necessary to game dev.
Edit: To clarify, she was laid off like 6 months ago from this company and she has been applying everywhere. Nobody is hiring.

In the modern day, I never worry when I see rampant stupidity and anti-consumerism in my favourite industries, because I've learned the market always catches up. It was the same with online journalism, and social media, "don't get mad, just don't spend your money there, and wait for layoffs".
They aren't 🎯 women, there might just be that many more that are working now ?
It's not a crash when games like palworld get so many sales. It's not a crash when half of all AAA companies haven't released a new game in 5+ years. It's not a crash when every years sportball resale for $60+ still makes a profit off normies who don't mind being scammed.
This. These people just don't know wtf they're doing or how much they should be investing to make it sustainable.
its mainly a crash of American gaming industry ..because these layoffs are 80% in America ...some in Europe ..and mostly those who have gone woke and/or overhired during COVID (usually both),,,and now when ESG/venture capital cash support is kinda gone and wont cover the risks in the same ways forces the companies to make changes (cleanup) to become profitable. ...the question is that are these changes enough/correct? well if not they will go bankrupt
hopefully this "crash" will affect positively on the localization BS, as that has been the biggest issue for Japanese games
Unfortunately, Palworld will be another victim to Microshaft. We need more homegrown indies that aren’t beholden to woke publishers.
Is it really a crash when it only really affects AAA (and AAAA) games and companies? Or is it market cleanup of overpriced low quality products?
Too bad Palworld is likely be ruined by Microsoft knowing their current history. We need more homegrown indies.
There is a 'western' gaming crash. Asia is doing better than ever, especially CN and KR. Since most of their games are not AAA, but are for mobile, people tend to ignore, but they're actually really high quality now.
