I think that and every other scene where he uses the persona everyone thinks of him as are some of my favorite scenes. First was the baptist mans blackmail, where instead of trying to be intimidating like butcher he played as one of the people from the night that the dude was fucking a bunch of people. The other was basically when he was trying to find folders on neuman and just played into the character of "Someone completely out of their league" and through doing that getting the data. He literally is the heart of the boys and honestly I don't know what season 4 will bring but with the chances of a lot of characters deaths coming it'd be interesting to see how he'll turn out.
@@tylermcclain5332I think Todd is gonna have the same faith as Maeve's fanboy in the comic, Maeve has a fanboy / slave on her side and then she helps Starlight to escape Vought only to confront Homelander. Maeve used him as her human shield and he got brutally crushed by Homelander. Probably it's gonna happen to Todd soon in tv show unless they gonna change it. Whatever his death is gonna be, it should be brutal because Todd is an incel.
The fact that Hughie is visibly taller than Homelander is so interesting. You know that stature difference somewhat bothers Homelander, even if he doesn't notice it himself.
That scene you showed at the start where Hughie squares up to Homelander is one of my favorite subtle character moments in any television series ever. The way Hughie does it, Homelander’s reaction, realization what Hughie is willing to do, and Homelander’s begrudging respect, all played out in seconds with facial expressions and body language.
You think that's subtle? Holy fuck, no wonder studios think the star wars sequels are masterpieces. Idiots just clap like seals for any dogshit pushed in front of them.
So Jack Quaid also is the voice of Superman in "My Adventures With Superman" making him an actor who has both played someone without powers and also MFin Superman.
Also Bradward Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks where we see him as a genuine and hopeful but somewhat bumbling ensign gain confidence and experience without losing their innocent spark, but still had moments of solid reflection and growth above the shows comedic nature. Even without a camera Quaid can make characters really dynamic.
My Favorite has always been at the end of season 1 where Hughie chooses to save A-Train. It hits even harder when Starlight tells Hughie point-blank "You are keeping the man who is going to kill YOU one day alive you know that right?" and Hughie simply says "I Know" and keeps going. No big gestures, no big speech but two simple words having such weight.
I just think is dumb and out of character, idiotic, nonsensical and a ton of bullocks. First of all A-TRAIN should have just run through huguie in 1 second. For some god forsaken reason a train decided the best way to approach a standing object was to run in zig zag towards them? And then hughie, that previously killed translucent, decides to let a- train live just because he got the chance to fuck someone else 2 week after his gf died
That right there made the biggest impression on hughie’s character. He’s such a truly good person that he genuinely can’t bring himself to let the man who killed his girlfriend, and would later try to kill him, die when he could save him.
When Hughie stood up to Homelander, the latter should have realized that he was facing the mud person that pressed the button and blew up Translucent. The worlds greatest superhero was staring at the man who declared war on him.
@@wiswcHe does care because he is a narcissistic who cares about himself more than anything else he wanted to be fully accepted by people but his insecurities make homelander paranoid even if people do accept him also he can't take any criticism and he always thinking he needs more control over everything that's happening he doesn't like anything unexpected because it makes him doubt himself

The comics were so different in so many majors ways. The Boys themselves actually all took permanent Compound V. It made them all a lot less relatable in this world, even Hughie. Compared to the temp V arc in season 3 where it explored the nuances of Hughie's feeling weak compared to Starlight and developing a toxic savior complex that crescendos in a lot of beautiful moments between the two as the come to understand each other so well. Nothing like that happens in the comics, and there are a lot of moments like that, the show made a lot of amazing changes that made it such an amqzing experience. He is definitely the most important character in the boys imho, he is the one who keeps everyone grounded and tied to their humanity so when he fucks up and his ego gets in the way like it did last season with the temp V and eventually making butcher even worse it’s shows how big an impact he has on everyone.
Agreed. Like MM said in s2 hughie needed butcher and butcher needed hughie to keep them both in line. And during mindstorm’s nightmare we really felt butcher’s regret on how he treated hughie

Ironically, Hughie is the biggest character reason for starting to NOT believe in The Boys. Even with his moments of compassion and kindness, he is constantly walked on by the characters and the writers even when there's no good reason for it. - When he tries assuming a facet of leadership when Butcher goes AWOL, he is slammed for it even when he does have a plan. - When Maeve shouts at him and mocks him in front of Starlight, she doesn't stand up for him. - When he starts taking Temp V to try and level the playing field in a front that looks more and more against him to protect himself and Starlight, he is mocked by the characters for being reckless and by the writers for "toxic masculinity" And then there's Season 4 where he is sexually assaulted by someone he used to idolise like Starlight in the pilot but when asked, Kripke said it was supposed to be a funny scene, not a tragic one. I'm tired of thinking The Boys is some breath of fresh air or trying to provide some special insight or mirror to the real world. Its messaging is weak, its political analysis is flawed and Hughie deserves better than what he got.
Exactly. It felt like the only purpose of Hughie in this season was him to get hurt so the audience could be like: "Aw poor Hughie, he has such a sweet heart." I didn't feel any sense of heroism from his character at all.

i like the opening scene you showed abt hughie he stood up to homelander and his heart rate didn’t change of fear hence homelanders reaction look down and back up
To be frank, after the season 3 finale, I’m struggling to actually like ANY of the protagonists in the show, besides Queen Maeve, the ONLY ONE in the most recent season’s finale to remember that Homelander was the greatest threat at the moment, and MM, the only member of the titular group I will give a pass for not supporting the Soldier Boy plan due to his combination of PTSD, OCD, and justified rage toward the Supe. But with everyone else, we have: - Butcher, a cold-hearted hypocrite who blew up a house with a baby in it and discarded his plan the one time it was fully justified for him to be a ruthless bastard. Especially considering he was a dead man walking at that point and as far as he knew, it was his last night on Earth. - Hughie, whose season 3 arc about being insecure regarding Starlight’s strength seemed to come out of nowhere. And he did a complete 180 on the Soldier Boy plan after getting socked by Butcher in the face. - Starlight, a naive and delusional idealist who refuses to accept the plan of using Soldier Boy, who is a basically a Man of Kryptonite for Supes in this setting, as a tool to kill Homelander and settles for exposing Homelander’s evil via fucking social media, even after the latter made it crystal-clear that his good reputation is the only thing keeping him from losing his remaining sanity and burning the Earth to the ground. There’s no good outcome to the Homelander conflict that doesn’t end up with Homelander in a coffin. - Kimiko, someone who spent all of Season 3 whining about not liking herself for being a vicious killer… only to viciously and sadistically murder a bunch of Red Shirts in the finale. And to top that all off, her being too busy mutilating a Red Shirt’s face led to Frenchie getting shot, even though protecting the latter was supposedly the reason why she wanted her powers back. - And Frenchie, a dude who used to kill innocent people and children for money for that two-bit Russian mob boss (who for some reason, was left alive at the end of last season despite being a complete joke compared to the main super powered threats). In hindsight, that made him out to be quite the hypocrite regarding the whole Lamplighter situation. He really shouldn’t have much of a leg to stand on when it comes to morality and what approach to combating villainy is “going too far.”
I slightly disagree. These protagonist aren't good people themselves. They are just like sups. The only difference is sups can do far more significant damage to planet earth than anyone. Also, Hughie was always insecure about being powerless. His girlfriend literally dies in his arms. Homelander is parading starlight as his girlfriend and lastly, in order to deal with sups, hughie joins that counselor lady but turns out she herself is a villain. He feels powerless no matter where he goes. Him being insecure is not out of the realm as a character
But that's the thing, they are multi-faceted characters, they are more than what we see of them at the beginning. Besides, they go through tons of stuff, of course they are not going to act the same all the time. They all have their own insecurities and flaws and that's what makes them perfect.
Hughie played by Jack Quaid is so underrated. People completely overlook his importance, because he has a small screen presence most of the time after S1 compared to Billy and Homelander.
My 2 favorite moments with Hughie were in Season 2. 1. The moment he saw the news that Compound V was exposed. That looks of celebration was so natural like it was huge sense of relief off his chest. 2. Same episode: his breakdown after impaling a whale with a ship. You can see the look in his eyes that he's had enough, and when he just accepted his death when Homelander order Annie to kill him by nodding and closing his eyes, he knew it was too much for him and wanted out thinking that this was the only way out. My number 2 was peak Hughie. He didn't say much, but his expressions said it all.
It's a shame they ruined season 3 with that plot-armor-filled finale. It was a gutless turn after so much thrilling buildup. It's going to make it hard to take the season 4 stakes seriously, as they no doubt will continue to use contrived writing to bail out the main characters. The stakes of the show were ruined by that lackluster finale.
yeah you're right. and with all the talk about how "Season 5 is gonna be the finale!! Season 4 is crazy wait until season 5!!" im kind of worried about season 4
I noticed something that got me thinking Hughie is taller than Homelander (Obviously) but it's not something you think about due to the clear-cut contrast in strength between the two. Homelander is seen as a tall immovable and unstoppable force while Hughie is seen as a small timid below average dude. But when this scene plays out you notice that Hugh is not only literally taller than Homelander but mentally taller too. He's truly grown grown as a character.
It's awesome to remember with homelander you die if he sees fear, despite being that powerful he simply won't kill humans who aren't afraid because he likes that .he survived by making the craziest move.
I hate how hughie acts and the way fans of the show pretend he’s become just this super strong badass when he’s not. That scene of him looking at homelander is always misused. Please watch it again and remember starlight is there eyes glowing( I know she never does anything when her eyes glow) threatening to take her approval points which is when homelander then decides to stop being a jerk and says he was just kidding. Then as homelander leaves hughie let’s out his breath from how scared he was. Then literally season 3 ep 4 at 40:07 seconds hughie goes on a monologue to butcher about how Annie had to save him during that moment and how the moment with homelander was like when every bully he’s ever dealt picked on him and he just took it.
That scene of Butcher and Starlight "bonding" while Hughie sleeping in hospital bed was also show the impact he had on people around him. Strawberry scented shampoo. 😂
Its wee Hughie :) He is definitely the audience surrogate, the normal guy in an insane situation. I do think the casting of Karl Urban as Butcher is a good choice as well though as you need someone with charisma to pull thatoff.
He’s the perfect character for that, because it shows that it can still happen to largely innocent, sympathetic people who would do anything to feel stronger
I love Hughie and he has sooo much potential as a character. Like they portrayed his sense of inferiority (to Starlight and the other supes) so well without him being a toxic duchebag. Flawed and insecure but big hearted. Unfortunately, they did him a little dirty at the end of season 4. Here’s to hoping he’s given more development in season 5 (which I think is the final season).
The reason The Boys is so good is because the story is being told to the perspective of the people around the superheroes, We had a glimpse of this from the BatmanVSuperman when Batman made Superman to be the villain of the story in the first 2 parts of the movie, as well as in the Captain America Civil War movie where they had to sign a goverment ordinance as superheroes are a liability to society, and in The Boys they just went for every extremes possible which makes it really good, grounded and compelling.
Is it just me or did Erin Moriarty get done plastic surgery done to her face in the latter seasons? Or am I just not remembering correctly and it’s just me
Not to be autistic but in season 3 Hughie and Butcher took temp compound V that gives you temporary powers not the actual Compound V that gives the supes their powers. Other than that very good video!
The real reason Homelander didn’t vaporize Hughie when he stood up to him, is because Hughie had revealed off screen that he is actually the most powerful supe in the show, and Homelander was so scared that he shit himself
Hughie stepping up to homelander is still such a good scene, the idea of the most scared fragile character getting to the point they fully stood up to someone who could liquify you in a second. Butcher would be proud.

i like the opening scene you showed abt hughie he stood up to homelander and his heart rate didn’t change of fear hence homelanders reaction look down and back up
I named my cat Petit Hughie, after this character. He and I are “The Boys.”
Ok but you have to admit that Hughie has INSANE plot armor to still be alive in this series
Homelander: He does exactly what I do!
Hughie as Superman: But better
To be frank, after the season 3 finale, I’m struggling to actually like ANY of the protagonists in the show, besides Queen Maeve, the ONLY ONE in the most recent season’s finale to remember that Homelander was the greatest threat at the moment, and MM, the only member of the titular group I will give a pass for not supporting the Soldier Boy plan due to his combination of PTSD, OCD, and justified rage toward the Supe.
But with everyone else, we have:
- Butcher, a cold-hearted hypocrite who blew up a house with a baby in it and discarded his plan the one time it was fully justified for him to be a ruthless bastard.
Agreeing with every word you said. They are passing past the point of being "complex" characters and instead just being unlikable assholes.
"If we’re ever going to win against monsters, I think we need to start acting human"
Hughie is my #1 favorite character, behind is homelander, starlight, then Butcher.
WRONG.
Your answer should have been:
Deep, Deeper, Deepest
Hughie played by Jack Quaid is so underrated. People completely overlook his importance, because he has a small screen presence most of the time after S1 compared to Billy and Homelander.
He's what the companion used to be to the Doctor
Hughie is my favorite character in the whole show.
He’s a huge reason why I watch the boys!
If Hughie ever dies, the series is going to become a much, MUCH darker and grim place. Way more than it is now.
Hope u are wrong sbout this, so far season 4 looks promising, and Gen V was REALLY GOOD AS WELL , trying to forget that season 3 happened at all tbh 😂
@@poti732 yeah I'm enjoying it so far, hope I'm wrong too.
yeah you're right. and with all the talk about how "Season 5 is gonna be the finale!! Season 4 is crazy wait until season 5!!" im kind of worried about season 4
This comment aged very, very poorly, and I’m glad to see it
@@lukethelegend9705 how has it aged poorly? 4th season isn't even done yet.
nice dude, you’re on jack’s story!!
I noticed something that got me thinking
Hughie is taller than Homelander (Obviously) but it's not something you think about due to the clear-cut contrast in strength between the two. Homelander is seen as a tall immovable and unstoppable force while Hughie is seen as a small timid below average dude. But when this scene plays out you notice that Hugh is not only literally taller than Homelander but mentally taller too.
He's truly grown grown as a character.
The show tones down on some of the elements from the comic, but still captures the essence of what it’s portraying.
hughie is very amazing because of how his emotions take FULL control but his mind also goes in gear to make his outcome his reality
7:21 correction, they take Temp V. It’s not the actual Compound. It’s a temporary version.
No actually butcher takes compound V
Hughie has always been my favorite character in the show. He’s the one I can relate the most to, and he’s so inspiring. Underrated character
Blowing transluscent is still my favorite Hughie (and The Boys) moment.
You mean blow up right?
Blowing A Train >
Take a shot every time Starlight flashes her eyes and proceeds to do nothing?
Update: I died of alcohol poisoning
Her new face hurts my eyes more than her powers
Tomorrow is the day. Season 4. Lets go.. great video.
8:40 I mean, being a hero takes more than being super, the other way doesnt really mean much lol
8:40 I love that shot so much. Makes wonder about a timeline, where they are both supes and partners with stable psycholigy 🦸🏻♂️🦹🏻♂️
It's awesome to remember with homelander you die if he sees fear, despite being that powerful he simply won't kill humans who aren't afraid because he likes that .he survived by making the craziest move.
Richie Kirsh survived Sam Carpenter. Good for him
It's so sad to see the Starlight actress ruined her face like that😢It takes me out of the show every time she appears.
Literally, I feel the same way
Ong why is no one talking about it
@@Stan13ymy g everyone is talking about it wdym
@@acebase14days at the time no one was
UE my favorite character after MM and Butcher . Hated what they put him through in season 4 but hope
He comes back better in season 5
Hughie truly is the Most Human and Morally Good Character in the Boys with Flaws we can Relate To.
I genuinely believe Hughie is gonna save Butcher rather than kill him. If he's on a journey to restore Butcher humanity, I'm all in for it.
How did I just notice that Hughie is taller than Homelander?
His voice 🤌
In season 5 hugh and frenchie move to SF and become the ambiguously gay duo.
Its wee Hughie :) He is definitely the audience surrogate, the normal guy in an insane situation. I do think the casting of Karl Urban as Butcher is a good choice as well though as you need someone with charisma to pull thatoff.
The tether is the key! Like the best Dr. Who companions, Hughie represents the audience
The comic book is themost depressing thing i have ever read. It really made me sad and angry honestly. 😢
Anyone else getting "Falcon" from Gameranx vibes from the voice naration??? Or is it just me?
The way they tried to make him a poster boy for toxic masculinity in season 3 was such a shit writing decision...
He’s the perfect character for that, because it shows that it can still happen to largely innocent, sympathetic people who would do anything to feel stronger
Holy summarization, Batman.
bro my thoughts exactly
I love Hughie and he has sooo much potential as a character. Like they portrayed his sense of inferiority (to Starlight and the other supes) so well without him being a toxic duchebag. Flawed and insecure but big hearted. Unfortunately, they did him a little dirty at the end of season 4. Here’s to hoping he’s given more development in season 5 (which I think is the final season).
Also as much as I love Butcher, I prefer Hughie.
Fun fact, the actor who plays Hughie(Jack Quiad), also plays Superman in
My Adventures With Superman.
still sad we wont see Homelander be balls deep in SoldierBoy
bro is the "you can make a change"
The reason The Boys is so good is because the story is being told to the perspective of the people around the superheroes, We had a glimpse of this from the BatmanVSuperman when Batman made Superman to be the villain of the story in the first 2 parts of the movie, as well as in the Captain America Civil War movie where they had to sign a goverment ordinance as superheroes are a liability to society, and in The Boys they just went for every extremes possible which makes it really good, grounded and compelling.
"She a good *beep*". That just made me laugh 😂😂
Hughie was definitely the main character of the first season until Billy Butcher took the lead role
Hughie is us, hes exactly what we would act or be like if we were in the same situation
this vid aged like a fine wine
hughie has become a moral leader and a good protagonist after all
I disagree 😔. I was hoping to see his character like that this season, but all he was this season was a scared nice dude getting hurt.
I feel nothing but sympathy for Hughie
TBH i never could identify with Huey.
Ned Leeds is only in the MCU Spiderman movies and not all of the Spiderman movies.
2:39 hold up, seth rogan was a producer on the boys?
You could have said "this beautiful moment is quickly and quite literally squash by the " Man the opportunity was there.
Hughie is the heart, and no matter what he'll love and defend Butcher til the end.
That's what Hughies saying
If Hughes went bald in season 5 , he'd be perfect
Is it just me or did Erin Moriarty get done plastic surgery done to her face in the latter seasons?
Or am I just not remembering correctly and it’s just me
poor heughie couldn't catch a break. in season 4
Hughie needs to take compound V and make things interesting.
Not to be autistic but in season 3 Hughie and Butcher took temp compound V that gives you temporary powers not the actual Compound V that gives the supes their powers. Other than that very good video!
After this video peaks change the Thumbnail again.. I just wannasee the third option.. first one was dope to me
Brooo, this video just made me realize how gorgeous Starlight's actress used to be 💀 wtf
What happened to the original guy that started this channel I kind of missed him and his personal chats with us about nostalgia
Substituted by this bad AI voice.
I see myself in Butcher
Lay some cable means you want me to take a big ol’ sh*t 💀
Some of the characters in the comics looks way different than their series counter part
The real reason Homelander didn’t vaporize Hughie when he stood up to him, is because Hughie had revealed off screen that he is actually the most powerful supe in the show, and Homelander was so scared that he shit himself
It really was the best choice for the movie
