This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I needed to know exactly which muscles I'd be stretching due l tightness from exercise (didn't know what muscle was causing the neck tension, now I can stretch and see what helps and know which exercise is to blame). Thanks.

A very heartful thanks. While doing this exercise i realized one side of neck is substantially stiff than the other. None of the other videos on neck stretches helped me.
Thank you so much from India!

Can we get a video on neck/skull base stretches for those who have cervical rods spanning from C1 or C2 down to T1+? Had 4 cervical fusions (2xACDF, 2xRods) and once rods were introduced to fix a failed revision surgery, my traps have been in a flexed pose despite muscle relaxers and botox.

This will not work for my situation. I cannot stretch my neck in two positions, as this results in a "twinge" in the muscles of my neck and traps (not sure how else to describe it). Think of a guitar string being plucked. That is what it feels like in my rear neck muscles, like a rapid plucking of the muscle, then it tightens or locks up and I can't turn my head to that side without pain. This lasts for a week to ten days, no matter how much I try to work it out.

I know this is old, but i think i have something similar. Almost like a tendon snapping across my neck bone. It doesn't hurt, but i fear it may have popped to the other side and is stuck there. I'm not even sure this can happen, but I'm not a Doctor 😭

If my neck gets stiff I use deep heat and rub it right into the base of my skull. If that doesn't work I put a towel over the radiator and use the edge of the radiator to get into the base of the skull.
