I Got a Brand new 45 Shield a month ago and I also noticed those serration looking things under my slide as well and did kind of concern me at first, but I have not experienced any problems at all since I started using it, so I'm not worried about it. I'm a little more than two boxes into this 45 Shield and not a single problem so far. I love it:-)
I got shot 6 times with a 9mm from across a dining table (by a nut that said I was the devil). Even though one went into my chest under my left arm and exited my right nipple, I got up and walked down 4 flights of stairs and waited on the ambulance. No vital organs or major arteries hit but although my left arm was shattered above the elbow and my pelvic bone got a hole punched through it, I stayed that night, the next day and walked out of the hospital the next night. This is why I only carry a .45 and keep it loaded with Hornady 230g +P XTP. Nobodys walking away.
I own the Shield Plus 9mm, and just bought the Shield .45, and took it out to the range for the first time this afternoon. Another member of the Conservation club where I shoot was sighting in his 300 Winmag, and was letting his barrel cool off as I fired the .45 for the very first time, and watched me put the first six rounds through a two inch bullseye at 21 feet...we were both impressed! Awesome little tool that would definitely get somebody off of you! It's a keeper!
So many positive reviews for the Shield 45. I really didn't need another carry 45 but bought one anyway. The reviews were spot on. Slim little pistol that shoots like a double stack. Really accurate and comfortable to shoot.
When these go on deep discounts from Smith this summer I might purchase the shield in 45. I noticed there seemed to be more 45 ammo than 9mm during this latest crisis.
I have the same tool markings in my 45 shield, and it runs like a champ. I have put probably around 1000 rounds through it without a hiccup. They are really nice EDC pistols. Congrats on your purchase!
I have had a 45 Shield for about 4 years and love it. Easy to carry and the accuracy really blew me away. Easy shooter and when you add the Arachnigrip Slide Spider it's perfect.
With all the new small carry guns out now, I still stick with the M&P Shield. I gave the P365 a try for a year right when they came out. Went back to my Gen 1 Shield 9 that has served me trouble free for many years. I have since added an M2.0 9mm Shield and a 45 Shield to my stable.
I own & carry my Shield .45 & it’s fantastic!!! The stippling on the handle kept rubbing my side during carry. I decided to put a rubber Hogue grip on my Shield & man absolutely love it!!! A lot better recoil a lot better control!! Highly recommended!!!!👍👍
My carry also (Shield 9mm). Got a safe full of glocks that are collecting dust. The shield grip angle turned me from a good shot into a great shot. "Got my own range ". It's probably just my wrist structure but man what an improvement. I switched over completely in all sizes. Btw I can't tell much recoil different between 9 vs 45.
Yes, the Shield is an excellent conceal piece for a man or woman. Most women will be more comfortable with the 9 mms. As common as Shields are, it is not hard to find one to try at the range or have a wide selection of aftermarket parts. I would add that the slight size difference might impact printing depending on your frame and carry method. The 40 S&W Shield has the same capacity as the 45 ACP and uses the same frame as 9 mms. The 40 S&W also uses most of the same aftermarket parts as the 9 mms. Lastly you can get aftermarket barrels for the 40 to convert to 357 Sig and 9 mms.
When I decided to carry I went with a Shield 9mm 1.0 because it had a safety . That was my comfort zone and no other small pistol offered that . While the Glock 43 might be more popular , without a manual safety I was not comfortable with that . I usually only carry if I have to go out at night or being in a area that is possibly dangerous . You can get tons of mag extension for the Shield . I have also left mine completely stock .
Your Smith & Wesson Shield 45 is actually a 2.0 version you can tell if you look at the later model with the 2.0 stamped on the slide like mine. In the beginning they didn't put the 2.0 stamp on the 45 ACP slide. And yes it's normal to have those tool marks. It's one of my favorite pistols.
I've had the Shield in 45 for about 5 years now and am always surprised how well I can shoot it. I rotate it with a few other pistols and as far as my carry guns go I still think I can shoot it more accurately than the others. Something about the setup is just really comfortable.
My primary carry, for a long time, was the Shield. Once I picked up the 3.0 Compact it took the Shield's place. I tried out the Gen 5 G19 and a CZ P07, but one I was able to try to M&P compact the decision was made.
I checked my 45 shield noting the same tool marks. Never an issue. I have had it over a year now without any issues. I see it as a means to ensure the next round pulled to the rear when cycling. My first was the 40 s&w carried several years. Soon having the EZ-9mm Shield will complete my collection.
I have an M&P Shield 2.0 Performance Center in 45. Love it! Trigger is much nicer than a standard Glock 5th gen and still probably better than the upgraded trigger I put in my Glock 45 9mm. The PC model has porting and probably trigger work. Got a good deal on it at $439.
I like the Shield line, and have both a 9 and a .45(no tools marks), but then I also like the older 39 series. Along that line I also have a Model 457. All are good pistols.
I have both the SHIELD 9mm and 45 acp. I love both. Even know the dimensions are just about equal for some reason the 45acp feels better in my hands. Love shooting it. Less recoil than the 9mm. Bigger bang due to bigger cartridge. But all in all. I live the M&P LINE. Looking into the 686 5" barrel next. Be safe and keep em loaded!!!!!!
I have all the M&P line the 9mm the .40cal and the .45 and I just bought the Shield Plus. Love them all, but the Sheild Plus is 13+ one and that is awesome. Gret trigger too.
Picked up a brand new M&p shield 45 with crimson trace laser guard for $329+tax about 3 weeks ago. I just seen the same deal for $299 online. The ct lasers go for $300 by themselves so this is a heck of a deal. Yes, those ridges are standard with the 45 shield. I’m thinking it does something with keeping reliable feeding of the magazine
For anyone out there considering a shield of any caliber or version (1 or 2), the Hyve Technologies "Monarch" trigger works really well in these guns. Apex triggers seem to get all the attention but I never could get one to work properly in my S&W M&P Compact 9mm (V1). I gave up on both the Apex trigger and the gun. I used it as a trade-in on a M&P 45 Compact (V2). Anyhow, I finally installed the Monarch triggers on my Shield, 9, 40, and 45 and swear by them. They have a shorter and smooth pull with a crisp break as compared to the articulated stock trigger, highly recommended. Lastly, like the reviewer said, the 45 is super accurate. There's something about the Shields that I not only carry them but enjoy shooting them at my range.
It’s it’s just a bigger cartridge and the spring tension from the magazine has worn some of the armonite finish off of it as such. Appreciate the video! You can file down the slide release on 2.0 45 and it will then go back into combat mode when you press the slide release Instead of re-rhacking it. Use a flat bastard file as hard as you can up on the edges on the slide release. 😎✌️
I've been thinking about starting to carry my 45 since I got a couple 100 round boxes of Remington green and white box JHP's for $25 a box. My G2C loves the 9mm.
I’m wanting a .45 shield to round out the shield family. One thing I’m going to try is some talon grips, as the grips on the 9 and 40 feel very thin in the hand.
I bought my 45 shield new and had lots of problems with reliability. It also has the same scallop machine marks. With use the gun SLOWLY got to be more reliable. Then I cleaned all the lube off it, cleaned the machined marks with alcohol. That broke it in in one box of ammo.
I have the Shield 9 and the Shield 45 also. Those tool marks on the 45 are normal and intentional and you shouldn't try to polish them out. I have about 1567 rounds through my 45 with no failures. I did have to replace the RSA after my first range trip. It fell apart when I field stripped it for cleaning. Even then it didn't fte or ftf while I was at the range. My Shield 9mm, version 1.0, had a 6½ lb. trigger from the factory. I installed an Apex sear and that brought it down to 4½ lbs. The 45 had a 4½ lb. trigger right out of the box. I love both those pistols, but carry the 9mm more often.
My 45 Shield has that rough texture under the slide too. Don't know why that is. The gun works great. Fits my hand good. I like my Shield 9 a lot. Added Pearce +2 extensions now 9+1 and 10+1. Best single stack 9 out there. Maybe I like the 45 a little more. Maybe not. Hard to say. Good video man.
@ kotaboy 32 I love all my m&ps too and the sheild was my go to gun too until recently I was turned on to a Canik compact TP9 it comes with 12+1 and a 15 rnd mag also the trigger is just amazing plus the back straps are interchangeable ya really have to put it in the hands to appreciate it oh it also comes in a cple awesome colors like burnt bronze and dessert I was a die hard m&p fan until I put that Canik in my hands I bought 2 of the full size which they come with 18+1 mags and the compact tp9 and the prices are a real treat too at only $349.99
Do NOT remove the scallops. They are there for a reason, to address reliability by increasing drag on the slide as it goes rearward and prevent the slide from outrunning the magazine. The 45 has several features the 9 does not found on the magazine, the slide and the frame to ensure reliable feeding. See if you can figure out just what they are.
I'm a fan of Apex but their trigger for the shield has a flaw. If your finger is too high up on the trigger, it won't disengage the trigger safety. In a stressful Situation, this flaw can be fatal.
I carry my Shield 45 ACP also for the same reason, stopping power I'm not concerned about how many rounds a gun holds I practice to make the ones I have count. I have sold a Kimber, Glock 43X and Sig Sauer P938 and only carry this bad boy. A doctor told me that works in the ER who has seen many gun shot wounds a 45 dose massive damage compared to 9MM
Great video, grip feel does matter.. nothing wrong with a bigger bullet... those rough marks MAY need to be addressed, if the gun is cycling fine I wouldn’t worry too much
Love my Ruger LC9S with Hogue grip!!! Love to see a size comp between the Shield 45 and LC9S!!! That 45 is tempting but I shoot my Ruger so well!! 230 grains vs 147??? Love them big old holes!!! That's why the 45 has me salivatin'!!!
Nice video. If things were normal in 2020 I wouldn't even bother with any of these old single stacks anymore even though I've purchased a few in the past. Still nice carry options if you already own one but they are obsolete with options like Glock 43x + shield arms mag, hellcat, P365, and P365xl. There's really no point anymore especially when buying something new in 2020. I think if we are all being serious for a moment we all know there's no "appreciable" difference between 9, 40, & 45 from a terminal ballistics standpoint. However at this moment in 2020, it is getting much harder to find practice 9mm ammo and at decent prices. For the first time I'm considering adding a carry gun of another caliber other than 9mm for this reason. Shield 40 and 45 looking like some nice backup options!
regarding the ridges...i would think that with more and more firing, they should go away (be worn down). my sa 1911 has a small engraving in the same place on the slide. when i first cycled it by hand, i felt it. i disassembled it to see what it was and that's when i discovered it. but with more and more rounds through it, it has worn down to where it's hardly noticeable, anymore. and i know that with even more rounds, it will eventually wear down enough to where it won't be noticeable at all. and i need to add a shield to my collection. i've only shot one once, but i remember it being very easy to shoot and i liked the feel of it.
I've carried the shield in 9mm for the last 5 years. It's one of my favorite carry guns. I want the 2.0. I love the grip texture. I have the full-size 2.0 and it's my go-to when training and what not.
I hear ya bro..I should change my name M&P Kidd lol. Love them more than my glock.. But good news Palmetto State Armory has the 2.0 shield without thumb safety on Sale (299.99) hell ya!!!
@@glock23fan50 I know. I wish I could pick up another one right now but I've got a lot to save for like a the PSA Dagger (Glock gen 3 clone), PSA JAKL, PSA5 and my dream gun LWRC SMG45. Plus my projects.
I'm currently looking for a more concealable carry pistol than my current G19 and Sig 1911 that I carry daily. Love my Sig in 45 ACP so this has peaked my interest. Thanks for the Vid.
Oh forgot to mention Pearce makes a little finger extension for the 6 round mag that increased control just a bit over the flat 6 round base. Hyve makes a +1 for the 7 rounder. Great little 45. My favorite 45 by far.
I would lightly polish that rail. That rail rides on the trigger sear as it recoils back. It's not an issue as much as a pet pieve. It is still safe and will not cause an accidental discharge. My pet pieve is when the trigger bar feels gritty getting to the wall. I just polish the rough edge out and the gritty feeling is gone. It's caused by a rough trigger bar pushing up on the striker safety plunger.
The shield Plus is the exact same size and carries a whole lot more ammo. These 2 compared to each other the .45 is just more gun. I’d say as far as the inside I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I did inspect mine and it appears pretty smooth to me. It couldn’t hurt to send Smith & Wesson an e-mail with a pic describing your concern.
I really like both guns and have shot both extensively. My second shot is always better in the nine along with my group in general. With that in mind I carry the 9mm version.
Ok I’ll be that guy, Here goes.. “You don't need more than 8 rounds when you're shooting with God's caliber (.45 ACP)." and ya have a spare magazine just in case you do.. 😀
Not true plenty of stories of criminals being hit with .45 & still attacking man lose that gods caliber talk it’s all about shot placement no matter what caliber you carry.
My 45 shield had the same markings. Cause a few jams for some reason. I just took a file and lightly filed them down. Havent had a problem out of it since.
I love the shield . I have the 9mm , the .40 , and the .45. The thing that surprised me most is I prefer the.40 cal. Previously, I had been a 9mm guy my whole life.I shoot all of them as well as much larger guns. As Paul Harrell says "it just fits my hand better".
@@BLACKPANTHERFIGHTER I have the Shields in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45ACP. The recoil of the 40 S&W is, of course, greater than in 9m; however, it is totally manageable. I have no issue carrying or shooting the Shield 40.
I didn't like the way the grip felt in my hand at first cuz the sides r slimmer than the front to back but its grown on me. Very accurate reliable and always on me 24/7
The grip of the 45 seems to fit my hand better. I don’t have that big of hands, just saying it fits me better. Plus I have always liked my 1911 45APC, it’s just too big and heavy to carry. Although the new RIC is interesting. 10 round double stack is very interesting also. If you haven’t seen it check it out!!
i know this is a few years old but my shield 45 has the tool marks and my 9 does not...they look intentional and ive never had an issue ...thanks for the video
I guess to each his own but I carry a full sized gun. The Sig P 365 is a great gun holding 13 rounds 9mm but I can't justify a smaller gun even in summer. Way I see it is their all ancillary but your brain. Stay out of trouble. Great video...
Love the Shield 9mm. BUT, it would be much improved if they squared off the grip in the back to help absorb recoil better. Not wider. Just much less taper.
You asked me so here you go. The caliber makes no difference. They are both good...for a semi auto handgun. The stippling on the 45 has a nice grip to it and is available on the 9mm 2.0. If I carried 45acp, I would run FMJ after seeing a chest x-ray where a hollow point 45 barely made it through the sternum and stopped 1/4 inch from the heart. The patient survived. I would go with the 9mm for the one extra round and the smaller package but these are slight advantages. I conceal a Glock 19 and when my holster arrives, I'll start concealing my Walther Q5 Match so size isn't that much of an issue with me. I'm 6'2" 225 pounds. I like the Shield a lot. My wife had a Beretta Nano that was having a lot of issues so we sold it and now she carries the Glock 43. Before she settled on the 43, we did a side by side by side comparison of the 43, Shield and Ruger LC9S Pro. I wanted to like the Ruger but I loved the M&P Shield for the trigger and a nicer felt recoil over the Ruger. To me the Glock was the second best but my wife was so used to my Glock 19 that she was most comfortable on that trigger.
The scallops on the underside of the slide shouldn't be like that. I used a Dremel and smoothed mine down and it made a big difference when cycling rounds.
I love it:-)
My .45 Shield is machined the same way internally. The .45 shield is a great gun.
The .45 Shield is a masterpiece!!!!👍👍
I got shot 6 times with a 9mm from across a dining table (by a nut that said I was the devil). Your lucky your alive. Sorry brother.
I’m sorry it happened. What happened to the nut job who shot you? Hopefully he’s doing life 6 ft under.

@@gruges2068 I can't quite figure it out myself. Something about the Shields trigger or ergonomics that just works better in my hands maybe.

I never ever noticed the ridges until this video...thanks buddy👍
A friend of mine told me I need to go big or go home caliber wise. Bought a Shield 45 and I ain’t goin back. I love it!!!
I have the same 45 got it last october and I love it!!! Love my old 9 but love my 45 better
The cut out is normal I have owned a shield 45 since new still my favorite carry gun and mine looks exactly the same with the cut out under the slide
I just picked up a M&P Shield 45 2.0, I love it

My Shield .45 also came with those markings. I think it may just be something to do with the .45

My 45 shield has the same Marks on it
Just something to help hold a dab of oil or grease. No problem.
I am no expert but every 45 acp I have ever seen has those. Glad to see someone appreciate the 45 Ooh-Rah
Im a fan of 45ACP as well👍🇺🇸.....Stay safe.....Steve from Illinois 👍🇺🇸
So what’s wrong with the m&p shield 40?
Shot placement is what its all about. Great looking pistols.
I polished that spot on my slide and it remedied the issue
regarding the ridges...i would think that with more and more firing, they should go away (be worn down). my sa 1911 has a small engraving in the same place on the slide. when i first cycled it by hand, i felt it. i disassembled it to see what it was and that's when i discovered it. but with more and more rounds through it, it has worn down to where it's hardly noticeable, anymore. and i know that with even more rounds, it will eventually wear down enough to where it won't be noticeable at all.
and i need to add a shield to my collection. i've only shot one once, but i remember it being very easy to shoot and i liked the feel of it.
@@glock23fan50
Next thing you know you'll be changing your name to P365.
@@Twins22R Don't temp me they are Sweet shooters. Just require more money 💰 to feed your Addiction.... Thanks
Mine has the marks too. Shield 2.0 45. Shoot 50 rds once a week for the last 3 months Ive had it, not a single problem.
I'm currently looking for a more concealable carry pistol than my current G19 and Sig 1911 that I carry daily. Love my Sig in 45 ACP so this has peaked my interest. Thanks for the Vid.
That's why I went to the G29 from G19, almost the same size, just rather carry a 10mm right now, more power.
I've never had a problem with my scallops. 45 shield is one of my favs, and it refuses to hiccup. They do like a nice break in
Those marks are on my 45 also. The triggers are also improved on these from the original 9's
Yea the 2.0 s I. General have better triggers.
I own both. In warm weather, I tend to EDC the 9mm. In colder weather, like now, the .45 rides on my hip.
I really like both guns and have shot both extensively. My second shot is always better in the nine along with my group in general. With that in mind I carry the 9mm version.
I have the same ridges inside my 45 shield functions perfectly
Ok I’ll be that guy, Here goes.. “You don't need more than 8 rounds when you're shooting with God's caliber (.45 ACP)." and ya have a spare magazine just in case you do.. 😀
my .45 shield has the same thing under the slide
@King Savage In that case, you've gotta figure out where those 5 or 6 missed shots went.
Not true plenty of stories of criminals being hit with .45 & still attacking man lose that gods caliber talk it’s all about shot placement no matter what caliber you carry.
@@gymreaper1728 placement + caliber = less ammo
Then read this

It’s the same trigger. The people who did work to it is Smith and Wesson. There are only two version 1 and 2. There are small variants in addition.
My 45 shield had the same markings. Cause a few jams for some reason. I just took a file and lightly filed them down. Havent had a problem out of it since.
Use the Shield 40, Shield 45, and Sig P938. They're my small compact carry pistols and I don't see me needing anything new in the future.
Caliber is not important shooter skill is. Which one do you shoot better? Which one is most comfrtable to carry. That is the one to carry.
I have 9mm 2.0 shield . I just got the .40 2.0 as a carry but i may still buy this .45 shield since its concealed size.
Hk VP9SK fit in your hand like a glove!
I love the shield . I have the 9mm , the .40 , and the .45. The thing that surprised me most is I prefer the.40 cal. Previously, I had been a 9mm guy my whole life.I shoot all of them as well as much larger guns. As Paul Harrell says "it just fits my hand better".
how much more recoil do you feel out of a 40. compared to a 9mm , if I may ask ?
@@BLACKPANTHERFIGHTER I have the Shields in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45ACP. The recoil of the 40 S&W is, of course, greater than in 9m; however, it is totally manageable. I have no issue carrying or shooting the Shield 40.
I carry a max 9. I just picked up a .45 shield yesterday.
I didn't like the way the grip felt in my hand at first cuz the sides r slimmer than the front to back but its grown on me. Very accurate reliable and always on me 24/7
Those ridges are apparently normal. I sent mine to S&W for that reason and they sent it back " no repairs needed".
Just bought the 45 shield m2.0 and it has the same tool markings
The grip of the 45 seems to fit my hand better. I don’t have that big of hands, just saying it fits me better. Plus I have always liked my 1911 45APC, it’s just too big and heavy to carry. Although the new RIC is interesting. 10 round double stack is very interesting also. If you haven’t seen it check it out!!
i know this is a few years old but my shield 45 has the tool marks and my 9 does not...they look intentional and ive never had an issue ...thanks for the video
I have both also and I made the same decision...both guns are unbelievable great PPF's but I switched to carrying my .45 as my EDC...
Hellcat. I changed from my shield. But I understand your stance on SA.
If only 2 choices the 45 a little more recoil yet with adrenaline compensator you won't notice.
