Just made the switch, absolute night and day difference. No more whirring and knocking; I do feel a very little subtle notchiness in sustained high load, but otherwise it's so smooth, quiet and powerful. I had the chance to sample a DD at Brands Hatch recently, and with that experience still fresh in my mind I'd go as far as to say it's like a baby version of that; not as powerful or glassy smooth, but not too far below by any means. I sim race in my living room (selfish I know) whenever I fired up my G29 my wife would immediately leave the room stating “I’m not sitting here listening to that shit” (note that I play with headphones) Bought myself a CSL Elite, set it up, start playing, few hours later look across the living room, wife is sleeping :) Need I say more.
him doing a comparison with the same wheel I have but for xbox really shows the flaws. Mainly center spring when drifting, the wheel like literally does not want to turn when transitioning/going into a slide. I feel that the belt system it has is good for competitive racing which I really like, but CSL just keeps the feeling of the front tires consistent for mostly everything and you always have accurate feedback from the car. G29 to dip your toes in the water of sim racing, CSL a year or two after if you find yourself playing more. Im considering a switch, gotta get a whole base stand for it though :/
The reason why the CSL is quieter than the G29 is because it has more power, which means the motor inside of the base has to strain much less to produce the same amount of force. The belt drive also acts as a dampener, which just by its nature reduces the noises from the drivetrain. Your G29 is better than a big majority I've seen, as it's pretty quiet, but yes, the Fanatec is quieter
I bought a fanatec setup, the same one you purchased , expect with different pedals. Whilst this was frustrating, I have sent mine back and they have received mine mewing in at most 10 days time they will ship a replacement. It basically failed to work with my Xbox, they said it was best to send it back 😂
Why is your g29 so quiet? Mine is very noisy, rattles and shakes when ffb is on. If I set ffb to minimum, nothing changes. It is only a month old, and the problem was immediately after the purchase. I thought I just needed to configure it, but the days and nights spent in configuring wheel did not give any result. Im thinking to change the wheel under warranty.
Yeah I don't get it too. Bought G923 from the store, but it was unacceptable, the whole base rattled and shaked but nothing was transfered to the wheel, and the noise.. apart my speakers that was the loudest thing in my house. Few days later I just ended up returning the wheel and getting a full refund.
Just ordered my Clubsport 2.5 to finally upgrade my G29 after many years, While I understand that a Clubsport isn't a CSL Elite, I'm guessing they should be somewhat similar in noise production.
@@giltheproguy4851 I know it's too late but just want to ask if it can still be loud if ever you set it at 50% ffb? planning go get this one and also playing at night

What!!? I have a csl with f1 wheel and sounds a lot! I used to put a lot of force feedback, but i thought the noise was normal... do you think mine is failed?
I bought a second hand elite last year and the fan comes on as soon as you start racing and stays on til you stop. You can also hear a low type of mechanical sound i think it's dying....
@@bartban6250 ACC tends to have really tough force feedback by default and can work the motor quite hard, I know the sound you mean but that's the fan inside. Normally not an issue when playing but for a minute or two afterwards it'll still be running until the unit cools off. In iRacing/LFS/Dirt the fan never really turns on much but on ACC it does. Most likely it's normal.
My G923 started to make huge noises in the force feedback on Gran Turismo after jus 3 weeks using it, Don't 'know what happened there is a fix for this. ?
The CSL Elite is discontinued now, the CSL DD is taking it's place and is priced at 350 EUR for the base alone, which is the same price the CSL Elite base was sold for, pretty much. Add a wheel (180EUR) and pedals (90EUR) on top and you're looking at 620EUR for an entry level Fanatec setup. I still use my CSL Elite to this day, regular usage and I love it still.
For anyone first time trying sim racing,go buy a g29 and see if you like sim racing and then you can upgrade to Fanatic.
