certainly been there woody, currently i have my 2jz running about the same stage as you and the fix list is long and hurts the motivation! let alone the wallet. As you know it will get there; always lots of teething issues and un-fun stuff like pulling engines out and covers off to find leaks! i had my build running on the dyno for 10hrs before my converter let go, was a huge shot in the pride as i thought i had checked and re-checked all my fittings to get leaks and let downs and finish the day with a converter rebuild. got to be happy with your progress so far considering the complexity, and seriously 700hp for 6000rpm IS GONNA BE BALLISTIC AT 8800 with 282 cams looking forward to further investigative work, problem solving and experts with their opinions thanks again for the content!
Hey woody, I have a background in aerodynamics. Wings and spoilers start producing downforce/lift/spoiler action usually north of 60mph. A rear wing should help with traction at the higher speeds, but it will also slow the car down. If you’re doing a pass and you’ve got not traction at 100kph+, it might be time to bolt the wing back on and try again. Great build!
100%. Wanting a full sleeper is understandable, but at the speeds Kevo should be capable of a small wicker bill, or gurney flap is a smart move. It's not even so much about downforce as it is eliminating lift. You don't want drag to slow you down, but increasing rear lift at high speed should be I'd bad juju. 💨 Small lip. Give that baby just the tip 💨
Really went through it on this one Can be so disheartening when you 'finish' a build with new parts and some of thsoe parts let you down - but that's just how it goes sometimes and you just have to get back on the horse! Such a good build. Amazing to look back at what Kevo was like, compared to now. Huge transformation, testament to you and a car to really be proud of! All best mate and looking forward to the continuing videos (including the life update - hope all's well!). Cheers
Woody, word to the wise. New silicone doesn't adhere to cured silicone. Not in a shower stall, and definitely not in a hot engine bay. Squirting a bead on to the outside of the rear main seal or the edge of a pan gasket usually only obscures where the leak is coming from, and makes a bigger mess when you do actually fix it. Best of luck, brother.
There is a difference between spoilers and wings. A wing is to create downforce (angled) and a spoiler (generally flat) is to reduce drag / remove unwanted aero turbulence. A back to back test with and without the "tea tray" on would show any benefits. Or possibly cause unexpected characteristics at speed😬.
Google : A front spoiler is designed to reduce the pressure under the car, which helps to increase downforce and reduce drag. The design of a front spoiler creates a low-pressure area underneath the car. This low-pressure area sucks the car downward, creating more downforce.
@@damfadd Sounds like in Googles example the (flat?) floor of the vehicle is acting like a wing. The spoiler redirects air to create low pressure under the car so the floor is sucked down. The floor is creating downforce for the vehicle from the environment created by the spoiler.
Lemon Squash Yellow over a dark silver lowers! It will be cooler in the staging lanes, and a stand out on the road! It's the niggling little things that make life more interesting than we might prefer. Do remember not to challenge the Engineer Murphy by making hard to retract declarations, though! On the matter of life events; for car guys, life has and alarming habit of "getting in the way"- maybe for others as well. The best that can be said is take an early, active interest to make whatever it is better, regardless of the event or race you have to miss- you will regret much less later! Best to ya! Fred
33:08 Woody, get a straight edge for your tool box. Use it to check flatness of things like the transmission pan and mating surface of the transmission.
Look at the positives from the dyno session, Woody. Glad you got the diff sorted afterwards and it's ready to dyno again. You will sort all the issues over time. Kevo will be a real weapon on the strip soon. Keep going, mate! Colour choice: green and gray two-tone
Damn I'm genuinely having trouble comprehending putting 100hp of heat into something that size for several seconds without it failing from the steel softening even with oil helping spread/absorb the heat. I know it was just an approximate number but still 75kw is an immense amount of heat I was shit scared when they kept going!
Hot tip with gaskets, if you coat both sides with hylomar or the Permatex non-drying jointing compound it basically guarantees no leaks, and if its a paper gasket it stops it from glueing to a surface and tearing when you take it apart, meaning you can do side of the road fixes and re-use the gasket. Also the drag wings while not always doing anything for downforce, they make parachutes deploy faster. Might not be such an issue with the speed you'll be doing (its not 200mph) but still.
@@adrianzmajla4844 Yeah it absolutely is messy, but boy howdy is it nice to be able to tear into your vehicle on the side of the road/track and be able to just put it back together. On the motorbikes I use it on the cases, literally just wipe the oil off with a finger and bolt it back together
the two tone colour scheme from the 90's was burgandy over grey, with a little paint brush tick swish thing on one of the panels over the pin stripe divider.
Permatex Aviation Gasket Maker for your Trans sump Mate. I swear by it on all cork or paper gaskets. Works on rubber/silicon gaskets to. It makes cork gaskets seal better than rubber/silicon gaskets haha
@theskidfactory aha I can imagine, I'm on team 2 tone, love the 2 tones, gonna be honest with you though, not big on the green, why not have both? What about whatever that really dark green metallic is, like looks like black pretty much.
I'm a little late on this one lol The wing reduces drag significantly. It only produces downforce when you add a wicker bill. That being said, it's main purpose actually is to reduce drag, because it breaks up the low pressure area behind the car. Which is, in my basic understanding of aerodynamics, the biggest thing slowing you down, because the rear is actually more important than the front of the car when it comes to aerodynamic efficiency. So many drag racers run a wing without or just a very small wicker bill. Obviously it depends on the overall shape of the car and how much lift or downforce it's producing. If your car produces lift you're going to want to add a wicker bill, because lift is obviously no good 👎 But you don't want to produce enormous amounts of downforce either, because downforce means drag. Also you don't really need it, because drag cars are built to produce enough static grip to handle the power. So drag racers try to have the least drag possible, while maintaining just enough downforce to keep the car stable. Another function of the wing are the vertical fins, they give you stability. (If you're entering multiple thousand hp cars, then you could obviously use some downforce to get the power down in the big end. But if you're at below something like 2000 hp your main concern will be having as little drag as possible and not producing downforce.)
Surprised your tracks allow coolant. It's the hardest fluid to clean up on the track. It's not allowed here in the states. Also the wing helps with rear downforce and help keep it straight at the higher speeds. Can help with the chute deployment also.
Dark green is almost as bad as black for attracting heat, paint it white for heat rejection unless it’s more about looks Nice work on the car, bet it rips when it’s sorted 👍🏼

Went to the merch store, couldn't find the pink over baby blue Kev shirt.
