      Congratulations on a job well done! Consider me very impressed with this scene. The way the sabers moved during the fight felt very raw and powerful. A small critique, the force push by Obi at the end looked a bit too fast and didn't have enough weight to it, but overall, I enjoyed watching your clip!

    In this reshoot, Obi-Wan is no longer just an old man biding time for his friends.
    In this re-telling, he is a hardened knight past his prime. You can see it in his moves. This is a grizzled warrior who finally realizes that his former apprentice has indeed surpassed him.
    You can actually see and feel the unbridled fury in Vader’s strokes and parries, and a sense of desperation in Obi-Wan’s counterattacks as he gives everything he’s got to complete what he KNOWS will be his last mission as a Jedi Master.
    There is now a stronger sense of tension created by the new ferocity of this duel where you are actually concerned that Obi-Wan won’t be able to buy his comrades enough time.
    That, and the resignation in Obi-Wan’s body language as he ignites his lightsaber one last time as he stares down his former brother in arms....
    Jesus, these guys nailed it.

      Yeah I guess we'll always just have to wonder what an uncrippled, unburned Anakin would have been like. One who didn't attempt the flip jump and let Obi-Wan escape on Mustafar instead, reasoning it best to fight him another day. God knows what he would have been capable of by this point. Force lightning probably would have been like Thor or something. No doubt would have already usurped and killed Sidious by now and be sitting on the Emperor's throne...

    The REVENGE OF THE SITH call back gets me here. You KNOW each of them were remembering the past:
    For Vader, his memories are of all the betrayal, pain, resentment of his descent into darkness and loss of his humanity...and for Obi-Wan, it's the loss of his brother, his failure and just the glimmer of hope that Luke Skywalker would take up the fight and defeat the Dark Side.
    Yeah...THIS is what STAR WARS is for many of us.

      This is not redeemed Vader.
      This is Vader the monster, the most feared Jedi Killer in the Empire.
      Vader isn't blocking or deflecting here; he's BASHING Obi-Wan's saber aside because he utterly wants to KILL HIM; you can FEEL the power and RAGE in every strike -- and then when they were in the corridor and Vader SMASHED Ben into the wall, then near-took his head off! WOW! And then, the callback to Revenge of the Sith before he near CUTS BEN IN HALF just finished it; goddamn, almost tears in my eyes... I straight up reached out with the Force and felt Ben’s fear when Vader was angrily stomping towards him. Its made clear now that he was only able to accept becoming one with the force after hearing Luke call for him. The directors did a fantastic job at portraying this perfectly.

    • @chainclaw07
      @chainclaw07 4 года назад +8

      The frightening thing to me is his intentions and power but even more it's his efficiency, how he closed the door behind him to seal off the exits without even looking/in his stride.
      You can say that the imagery of darth vaders roboticised appearance make him more intimidating but also consider that he's still effective and a force not only to be reckoned with but to be feared DESPITE being less than half man and more than half machine.
      You can see his stiff movements and attribute them to his bodys limitations but he still is efficient and menacing.
      His breathing is telegraphing his presence but if he weren't so menacing the breathing itself wouldn't be scary but it also reveals that his body can't breath on it's own or at least it's too painful for him to do so YET he is the highest commander in the empire second only to the emperor.
      Kylo Ren put on a mask to look cool... nothing wrong with that but the similarities makes us compare him to Vader and when we do he seems like a boy controlled by emotion, throwing tantrums. and the fact that his wins are never clever, shows any of his strengths and his losses show us his weaknesses we're not impressed or intimidated by him.

    • @philippeamon7271
      @philippeamon7271 5 лет назад

      Well, it's perfectly conveyed who and what are fighting, and the why is a bit secret atm.
      I don't think the idea is to get rid of Han and the Stormtroopers or Luke & Leia swing across. So my only perfection destroying nags are:
      1) Telekinesis is supposed to surprise and overwhelm the untrained Luke (unenlightened audience), so I dislike it's inclusion - they should've found some other way to set Vader on fire.
      2) "Then I will show you the true nature of the force!"- uh, no. "You should never have come back" didn't make sense, like Kenobi had previously visited the Death Star while Darth Vader was out shopping for groceries and they juust missed each other. But it's something like: "Your powers are weak, old man... You shouldn't have come... You knew, you couldn't stop me. Now you will die."
      3) I get that the Mustafar flashback is supposed to say: This is the fated moment, in reverse. But even that doesn't really fit, and the lyrics themselves: "I hate you - I loved you" also doesn't really fit chord and cadence of what this fight is.
      4) Darth Vader is imposing by just standing there. The frog perspective takes away from him, especially when Obi-wan (the only one there) can't look at him that way.
      5) Surprising misattention to detail, when they must include the knowing smirk, cut to the retracted hood, then right back to the covering hood.

Obi wan was the only character Vader hated, if we don't count palpatine. I like it too, except for the parts where the rocket launcher took out an entire ATAT, the machine gun guy (forgot his name) kills more stormtroopers then Vader does rebels, and where the planetary shield can block anything from the planet (why not a blockade or landing pad turrets like in the Clone wars? A planetary shield, if possible, would certainly be built around the death star.) But in terms of story and character development it was much better then any other Star Wars Disney made in my opinion.

      @@darthbomber2818 Not that I'm a big fan of Rogue One, but the rocket barely damaged the ATAT, it only moved its head for a few seconds before an X-wing shot at its very exposed neck, which is its complete weak point. And I'm pretty sure if a character has been on screen in more fight scenes in the movie than another character has, they are probably going to get more kills shown off in that movie. As for the planetary shield, there was actually planetary shields in Legends. They were usually reserved for some of the most fortified bases however, like Uxio from Legends. However there weren't any space station required to maintain the shield and required multiple of them around a planet's surface. Thrawn was able to beat this however by using cloaked ships that were inside the shield to fire whenever one of his star destroyers fired. And the Death Star was at least partly shielded, and most of the officers would be arrogant enough to believe that any rebel ship would be obliterated by its thousands of turbolasers, nevermind the superlaser.

      @@alduintheanti-dragonborn I mean, most of what I consider "problems" can sometimes be justified, but it just isn't the best course of action in my opinion. Like that guy gunning down storm stroopers, the problem wasn't necessarily him and Vader, he killed more stormtroopers then Luke, Leia, and Han combined over the course of 3 movies (in ground blaster to blaster fights). Sure a character could be good, but 100 men with blasters should not be beaten by 1 man with a blaster, especially since neither side is force sensitive. You could come right back at me and say "he was a really big pro" or "his gun is a modified turret" but like seriously don't you think it would be nicer if they just had more rebels fighting there. The way the movie portrays it it seems like a couple rebels beat a force hundreds of times more powerful then they were, which screams of incompetence on the empire's behalf. This stuff I'm complaining about isn't rare, almost every Disney movie has it, but I just want Star Wars to be different from the rest. The shields also have their uses in lore, and Disney picks and chooses what they take from the lore and put it in the movie, I feel like that was one of the things better left in the lore. Of course this is all my opinion, sorry for the rant.

    The intensity of the this duel only makes sense given the savage way Vader wipes out the Rebel Fleet Troopers at the end of "Rogue One".
    This is part of my Episode IV canon which also consists of parts from the original, the Special Edition, STAR WARS Revisited and anything Ivan may do in the future.
    Despite everything KK has done, the Force is still with the true fans of STAR WARS.

    When i first saw this I actually felt fear, this is brutal! Vader had been reimagined since Rogue One....he is the brutal vader we all should have seen.

  • @arklytte

    One of my favorite things about this is that this iteration of Vader reminds me of the Vader in Rogue One and the EU/Comics. He's a literal one man wrecking crew fueled by pure rage and hatred, and he just UNLOADS on Obi Wan. The callbacks to the prequels were superbly done and just made the scene that much more intimate and emotionally powerful. I've watched it like a dozen times on their channel and a bunchaton of reactions as well. I cannot say enough good things about this.
    Great review Jeremy. Thanks!! :)

    A truly sad state of affairs when fans have to make their own Star Wars just to be able to enjoy star wars.
    Ps. I recognize that a lot of fans like Disney's films, but a lot (a helluva lot) don't.

    A new hope will always be a classic but this remastered scene has way more impact than the original.

    • @AStageForTheKingdom
      @AStageForTheKingdom 5 лет назад +1

      This is the wrong impact though. In the original version of this, Obi Wan was clearly in total control the entire time, smirking and toying with Vader. In the original, Obi Wan never had any intention of coming out of that fight alive. Whereas in this version, it looks like Obi Wan was trying to kill Vader and lost and sacrificed himself out in the spur of the moment because he had no other choice. Also, the prequel callbacks don't make sense here, because Vader had suppressed all memory of his former self by this point.

    • @wolfpackanimations4125
      @wolfpackanimations4125 5 лет назад +2

      @@AStageForTheKingdom yes I do agree with you there as obi wan in the original had more control. However for me the the fight is more impactful as if darth vader fought like this in the original then it would give a whole new meaning to vader toying with luke in the empire strikes back as in it truly shows how powerful vader is. Not to mention vader was using all his anger built up for 20 years to cut down his old master as that day on mustafar was a life changing event that has haunted him his life and this was the man he hunted down ever since for revenge as lets be real here anyone would be angry to meet the person who threw them near a river of lava burning them and cutting of their limbs again. But I do like the original fight as well in A New Hope and what it means.

    Vader walking with such determined purpose. In the scene you can see Vader carefully measuring every step and every strike is with hate. Vader is younger, stronger and you can feel the mouth-watering glee in Vader as he realizes he is out besting his former master.

    Of all of George Lucas’s edits to the originals I always wanted something like this. This fight is in all honestly huge to Anakin’s story and it didn’t seem like it was when you first watch it. I understand Lucas did the best and the original sabers were really fragile but I would have loved if this was added.

    The add-in of the Prequel callback, made Obi wan's smile before his death so much more meaningful. Before it was just a smile for Luke ~your turn now, this re-imagined scene made it for Anakin as well. The whole "Your my brother, I love you" then the smile ~chills. Guys who made that video A+

    What that I love about this fight. That nearly every strike is a strike to kill, decent amount of proper lunges, and enough flash to make it cool.
