As much as I love the original trilogy, this is my new canon for how that duel went down.
Yup
Hella yeah!!
without a doubt
Somebody needs to edit this into the movie like the guy who made the despecialized editions. If Lucas can edit the movies then we can too.
Now the Luke vs Vader scene in ROTJ. Make palpy's "Good, good!" have some real weight. The emperor was not easily amused. Maybe Mark Hamill will repise his role, We all know he also didn't agree with Disney's course fo action. It would be nice but probably a pipe dream. That fight should be THE ULTIMATE FIGHT in the whole Star Wars Trilogy of trilogies, and it should trump any climax that is to come in Episode 9. If you ask me.
the theaters would not be ready for this in 1977 lol
Unfortunately, you're right. If you were to watch any old non-Asian movie involving sword fighting (involving pirates or The Three Musketeers, most likely), you'd see how much slower and more methodical the fights were, with much fewer viewpoint cuts. Over the last 3 decades, first with the development of CGI that allows filmmakers to do things previously not possible, and then with the rise of the Internet allowing instantaneous transferring of information to become the norm in the Western world, the pace of action scenes in general has sped up considerably. Nowadays, people are used to seeing a rapid barrage of split-second cuts, whereas 40 years ago, people would be too busy wondering WTF just happened to be able to appreciate a scene like this one.
People had their minds blown by what they had in the original 1977 cut of ANH. This would straight up stupefy them
This would have been pulled cor causing too many heart attacks in 1977.
@@prestonjones1653 1977: Rated R for Intense Sword Fighting Sequence that may cause heart palpitations
Honestly, it may have only added to the whole "greatest villain of all time" status that Vader has. If no one has seen anything like that before it would definately draw a primal fear of this guy that they've never experienced before. It would be controversial, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't have worked in the time.
That scene where Vader does a little flick of his saber before going in for a horizontal cut, I swear that anakin does the same thing in one of the prequels. And if so then that makes that little detail absolute genius in my opinion
Yeah, it just screams *"Go die in a **-pool of lava-** fire, Obi-Wan!*
I think it was actually Dooku in episode 2 who used it on Obi-Wan.
2nd time I see this reference. I guess it's true?
@soapfanaddict you just copy and pasted this everywhere
*Darth Vader: "You couldn't live with your own failure. Where did that bring you?....Back to me."*
That line is so epic.
I can see that as something Vader would actually say.
“I thought by eliminating all the Jedi, the sith would thrive but you have shown me that’s impossible...”
I can hear him saying that. :D
Evdog04 Maybe not the site, a better saying, in my opinion, would be “I thought by eliminating all the Jedi, the force would be balanced.”
That was Cinematography and fight choreography at its finest...
I agree, but I can't help but be nitpicky here at 8:46 Vader has his rear completely exposed to attack
@@theguy6037 WEll normaly bad, but for Vader? First of all he has the Force he dosnt need to see to defend himself (Proven by Kanan) second his cap is like the rest of the armored parts of his suit very Blaster and lightsaber resistant
LORD TWIGO if he tried he wouldve gotten his head cut off with the quickness
@@theguy6037 nah, in that moment he turns the lighsaber to cover his back from a jab or a cut
Even without eyes to display emotion you could tell Vader was pissed when Obi Wan force pushed him
Not only that but he knew the moment he stopped and wasnt slammed that he had beat obiwan and that it was all over. That moment he looks up is him coming to that realization.
Danial Huchko yeah and thats when obi wan realizes he had lost for real lol
@@Gods_Fury101 It's kind of interesting to think that when Ahsoka force pushed him she brought him to his knees.
This Darth Vader put a chill up my spine. He looked like he would inflict pain, hatred, anger, on anyone in his way. He looked totally brainwashed and indoctrinated to the dark side with passion. SC 38 Reimagined did what Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy could never do.
As much as I love The Last Jedi, Ima have to agree with you there. For some reason, Star Wars fans seem to know the characters better than their creators.
I love how his fighting style in this version reflect His physical condition, he cant do super complicated Sword Slash so he adaptated His fighting style to be powerful Blow and Cleave (althought some form remain as well), also with the fact that Vader light saber is modified to have a Higher output than normal LS, this version should be canon
Here here
Should watch the ending to fallen order the game.
Totally Not Vergil love the last Jedi???? Damn you have such low shit stained standards. Disney movies 7-8-9 doesn’t count as cannon, they fucking suck.
The voice overs added from the prequels into this battle made it so much more emotional and filled that connection/sadness between Anakin and Obi-wan. These two, long life best friends, a mentor and apprentice in their final confrontation with each other.
Such a good video.
Between you and me, I would have loved to see quick snippets of Anakin screaming as he was light on fire then being brought all in between saying "When I left you, I was but the learner. Now I, am the Master."
What I liked about the Prequels is how they opened up the worlds. You got a good feeling for life in this Universe and the politics.
The new trilogy is pretty dry world-building wise.
Yeah. Ep.7 limited itself to copy and paste New Hope and Ep.8 was kind of a mess si ce Rian decided to rewrite the story.
As much as the prequel get shit on I really enjoyed episode III, one of m'y favorite episode in the saga, absolutly love the part where the 501st storm the Jedi temple with Anakin in front
Yeah let’s be honest, the new trilogy doesn’t have a lot of world building. But I feel like they focus more on storytelling instead (weather it’s good storytelling or not is up to you), which isn’t a bad thing. They prefer advancing the plot rather than spend to much time on world building.
@@jerrywil7012 agree on that, but too much storytelling and not enough world building is bad too (the other way around is true too), you need to acheive a ''balance'', imo the new trilogie just doenst have this balance

6:19 For Reaction
Thank you
thanks caleb.
Thanks Caleb
i see the caleb meme still going strong, cool
This reimagination of Scene 38 had everything. A lot more action between two of the greatest lightsaber duelists in existence, the emotional tension was so strong, and the ending added to the tension so much! It made the fight very emotional, I actually cried, especially when in the very end you hear Anakin remember Obi-Wan crying out, "You were the chosen one!"
Rey and Kylo wouldn’t last a minute with these two old dudes
my two criticisms of the short, in context of the rest of the film:
camera was waaaaay to floaty and dynamic in some shots
"You were my brother, Anakin" should be trimmed to "You were my Brother..." as to not reveal Darth's identity before ESB"
Did Obi-Wan saying that come before this movie?
@@MrWongWey "before" chronologically in canon yes. In real life no.
Everyone knows Vader is Anakin
"This 2019 CG looks better than that frontrunner CG used in 1999."
suprisedpikachuface.jpg
Well yeah I mean Imagine the Gungans and Battledroids battle but with today's CGI
Saying that Obi-Wan vs Anakin on Mustafar wasn’t perfect and was dragged out too long is blasphemy!!!!!
But great reaction guys 👍🏼
Agree!
Agreed, brother. The fight was intense and reflected the true art of lightsaber combat.
Yeah, the whole point was to show how long, painful and grueling the fight was
When they said that I was like wtf
I mean... lava surfing... come on. The fight could have had so much more weight if there wasn't lava surfing.
That Jar Jar theory as far as I remember was that it might of been the original plan when Lucas made Episode I but the avalanche of hatred the character got made him change his mind so the characters role ended up shrinking down in the subsequent movies.
ME: _"JUST GET TO THE REACTION ALREADY, GEEZ!!!!"_
Also ME: _[Listens to the whole conversation with fascination anyway...]_
Well in a way Jar Jar did have a huge role on the whole series as he was the one to recommend giving Palpatine the emergency powers which led to Palpatine becoming the Emperor
(George Lucas voice) Jar-Jar is the key to all of this
I knew he was a dark sider.
*I disagree for one reason that I believe holds up to scrutiny, feedback is welcome:*
Why would a mastermind like Palpatine who'd spent decades planning ahead, climbing his way up the political ladder, playing the system to his advantage from the shadows, and orchestrating a war realistically (Please spare me the "Star Wars was never realistic" copout, as if that's a substantiated argument that covers any such criticism) put the fate of arguably the most important step in his scheme (gaining authority over the senate & courts) to the Prequels' buffoon? Would he REALLY overlook this or not have a backup plan? 🤔 Think about it.
That would make NO sense for his character after all his efforts + preparation. Even if Jar Jar had advised against giving Palpatine emergency powers, I've no doubt whatsoever that he would've found a way to secure them. And no, we don't need a deleted scene specifying this for it to be a valid possibility if not probability in context of the lore. Everything doesn't need to be shown or told in visual storytelling to make sense. Jar Jar would've made NO difference either way. Palpatine could've had him killed in any number of ways if he'd considered him a threat.
*Conclusion- However much fans cling to their "secret Sith Master" theory or "It was all his fault" narrative, Jar Jar in canon is a lucky fool, plain & simple. NOTHING he did would've stopped Palpatine and giving him authority on anything to begin with was pitiable.* 🙄
Jar jar did more than what these new sequel characters are doing 😂 I’ll take jar jar over these new dull characters any day
Perhaps it wasn’t his idea, at all...
Boys, welcome back to Star Wars and not Disney's $tar War$!!
10:30 "Now this.."
*IS PODRACING!!!*
You know what's funny is as Nate said that, I was hoping Micah would cut him off and say, "Is podracing!" with Nate about to kill him for that joke. Permission to be disappointed?
@@nofacedgoldfish6216 permission granTED
@John Frum No problem. XD
I would like to see this scene edited into the actual movie, but keep the scenes of Han & Chewie chasing the Stormtroopers down the hall and Luke & Leia swinging across the pit in there as well. That would be totally badass.
I think they would've kept all those scenes in too but just didn't want it to take too long getting back to their fight scene for their own video so they condensed it.
I thought the cuts and edits were top.
Michel Veilleux don’t get me wrong, they were beautifully spliced in. It’s just that the scenes from the original movie were incomplete. Likely, as mentioned above, they were cut out in order to keep the video from being too long. I’m tempted to find a copy of this video that I can download and attempt to edit the full scenes of Han & Chewie chasing the stormtroopers, as well as the scenes of Luke and Leia being trapped on that ledge and having to swing across the pit back into it (and possibly edit the extended version into the full movie of A New Hope). I don’t know if I have that kind of skill/talent though.
Anakin and Obi-wan's fight was perfect. This is the first time I hear somebody say the fight was dragged out too long. Lol The music was perfect, the length was just right, and the chemistry and choreography between those 2 was amazing. Lol
Agreed. It was long, intense, and emotional. Perfect!
Their old timers who live off nostalgia just like every other OT Fan their kind can't go a second without saying something positive about the Prequels and than randomly nitpick a negative just to flex "how much better" the OT is Lol
@@sabihfaraz6732 finally someone said it
Wasn't perfect, but was pretty damn good. Watch Shadiversity's Fight Scene Autopsy on the fight. I'd say at least 80% of it is solid, smart combat moves. But there *are* some dumb parts, like the part where they twirl their lightsabers without touching.
My main takeaway from this, what I liked best overall is that they nailed the menacing presence of Vader. The power in some of those saber strikes was scary.
Now imagine what these guys could do with a Disney-budget!
I grew up between the original trilogy and the prequels, so I like them both evenly.
Mandela effect, when people forget something trivial and end up thinking it's something else.
11:26 I LITERALLY just got goosebumps when the music came on framed by Vader’s mask and the glow of his lightsaber. Absolute chills.
Bro I've been watching this video like 10 times now, and I get chills EVERY. SINGLE. TIME., when Obi Wan force pushed Vader and he then lifts his face up towards the camera and the music starts, with the voice over from the prequels. Chills every damn time, it's amazing
"You felt deperation for Obi-wan the whold time.." Exactly!
In the discussion of Lightsaber Crystals according to canon there is a Rainbow colored so I guess you could say "Taste the Rainbow Beotch!" 😆
That is almost in the top ten stupidest things I've found in the new canon. Not quite at "three pages of people farting at a wedding", "space Hillary Clinton (by the author's own words) being the real reason the death star 2 was destroyed", or "It's normal for Jedi Masters to fuck their Padawans", but it's still stupid.
@@passingrando6457
Um... that was even before Disney.
Also the idea of students and masters fucking has TONS of historical precedent (Sparta, Samurai, modern middle schools, etc).
@@prestonjones1653 "modern middle schools"
Okay, I laughed. Joking aside, the difference is, pre-Didney Wars it was considered a kinda fucked up thing. The author involved in the new case wants to normalize it.
@@passingrando6457 is this actually a thing?
@@joeyginise6051 Yes. If you notice the hardcore EU nerds bitching more, it *isn't* (for the most part) because they're manbabies, it's because the novels, comics, etc, that most don't pay attention to are getting fucked even harder than the highly visible stuff is.
Hell, at least the Prequels ushered in a new era of surprisingly enjoyable side material. With the ST, it's just worse. Gay cyborg policemen being resurrected from the dead by the force as literal angels of justice. A zombie plague to kill off all the old, familiar aliens to make more room for the new ones. Darth Vader using a time-warping space butthole to watch Palpatine psychically fuck his mom. It's... Bad.
This editing was amazing it makes me all the more excited to start my own Star Wars projects.
Yeah, Legends material before attack of the clones had Jedi using all types of colors, some Jedi like Adi Gallia had red
And each saber color meant something for a Jedi, like blue is for combination and green is more force based
@@timafterdark3759 yeah, specific Jedi titleship represented by the lightsaber colors
All I'll say is that Jar Jar is always doing something stupid but never seems to be hurt.
The subtle details harkening to the films is awesome! I can see why this took them so long to make. I wouldn't mind if the original film was extended and other characters were given extra actions to offset the timing for this.
I love how they payed attention to their style of fighting because anakin was more offense than defense and obi wan was the opposite and in here their fighting hasn't changed
This isnt suppose to start anything, but in the comics the jedi way in the past attack and slaughtered ( like genocided a planet or planets) the dark jedi just for practicing force they deemed evil when they were experimenting with both sides. Thus starting the eon long vendetta of the Sith. The jedi over millennia changed to what they are viewed now "good".
In the words of Darth Vader "in my perspective the jedi are evil"
from what i remember your talking about the jedi committing genocide against the sith as a group AND the sith as a species
Overlord Wasn’t that why the Sith (species) ended up going extinct? They were wiped out regardless of their actual moral inclinations simply for tampering and attempting to understand that dark parts of the force? I might be misremembering.
@@sinbadsolomon8508 yeah its what wiped out the species, but from what i remember it was after the sith tried to invade the republic
*"Well then, you ARE lost!"* The Sith's ancient vendetta had nothing to do with why Anakin considered the Jedi evil, and the Jedi of the Republic were not comparable to their predecessors. While they did make mistakes and allowed peace-times to make them too complacent, they were NOT by any means evil. They'd simply lost their way.

I've been requesting this since Everything wrong with the prequels
"Revenge of the Sith" is still the best prequel. The duals weren't the best but the story lines and settings of each of the five were amazing!
@@dj__projects pretty sure people think the duels in that movie are the best of all 8 movies
So far, I think the best dual in the movies is Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul in "The Phantom Menace". "Revenge of the Sith" had the best story line duals. Original Trilogy was good at the time. And, although fans are divided in the Sequel Trilogy, can we all just admit how good the dual was with Rey and Kylo Ren vs Snoke's Praetorian Guards? That is, by far, the best dual of the Sequel Trilogy.
Do it
This is TOO MUCH AWESOMENESS to exist in the 70’s!!!
Was a pleasure watching this with passionate Star Wars fans
11:26 to 11:42 is my favourite part of this scene, and I well up every time I hear it. Nate’s little “I loved you” got me too. Love watching your reactions, especially stuff like this!
The music comes from the channel called Lucas King - you guys should check it out on your spare time - he/she has awesome compositions.
"Han shot first." - Dead Stormtrooper #218
To be fair, it does sound like a practical thing for a android like C-3PO to have a communicator somehow like, compacted or hidden in his thumb, R2D2 alone is a Swiss-Army-Knife of tools at his disposal.
My theory is that R2 is built with a whole array of customizable, fit together components (like a high tech connector set) inside his hull. So he pretty much builds inside whatever he needs on the spot.
I literally do this (remake the fights in the SW movies) but I do so in written form. I WISH I could do what these guys did so I could translate what I wrote into a visual format.
Corrupt Angel start learning digital editing. Start small and work passionately til you reach this goal and post it on youtube for all to see. Id watch what you could do in the future with enough experience and dedication
The real Obi Wan wonder in this final fight vs Vador!! Awesome!
This still get me happy!!😃
Disney needs to recognise the people that spend the time to make awesome scenes like this. Make a blu-ray release and insert this scene over the old one. People WILL pay for it. Disney wont complain since they will also make money off it. Then give the creators a job with the Star Wars films. Best part of all (for the true Star Wars fans) was that they still kept Alec Guinness in it, giving respect to the man.
I can totally understand fans (particularly die-hard OT fans, though this isn't exclusive to them) who value the originals' lightsaber duels more for their choreography utilizing more actual fencing technique as opposed to the flashier prequels. Some fans get attached to the saber duels primarily for entertainment value, others more for dedication to detail using real world sword-fighting form.
I met a practicing fencer once who admitted that he enjoyed the prequels' combat specifically BECAUSE it diverges from realism and really sells these space-wizards doing things a real swordsman couldn't or wouldn't do. Contrary to some extremists' beliefs in this modern fandom, it is possible for different people to love the same franchise or even the same scene for different reasons.
Some fans don't care about choreography and get invested in duels strictly from an emotional pov, their immersion focused in the acting, drama, fear, anger, sadness, heartbreak, music, atmosphere, and general aspects of fights outside context of actual swordplay. I'm personally a little of all three. I grew up with the prequels first but generally prefer the OT in most respects.
My #1 priority in any duel is entertainment value. Tension & emotion are my 2nd highest priority, be it in slower-paced OT duels or acrobatic prequel performances. Realism & technique are lowest on my priority list. If I hypothetically had to choose between a duel looking "realistic" vs FEELING like a real, tense fight with gripping emotion, I'll choose the latter EVERY time.
So I hear you’ve watched and enjoyed the Ip Man films. Love it. Are you aware of the upcoming Ip Man 4: The Finale coming? There’s already a trailer which I suggest y’all react to if you haven’t seen it already. There’s also another standalone Ip Man story coming following the Cheung Tin Chi, his rival and fellow Wing Chun martial artist from Ip Man 3, telling his events following the third film. There’s also been a trailer for that which I recommend as well.

react to Robot Head's "Disney Doesn't Understand Lightsabers" & "Stupidest Things Said Defending Star Wars: The Last Jedi"
Robot head is one awesome guy
I feel like this edit does absolutely nothing to take away from the original sequence, while doing alot to tie episode 3 to episode 4. From the way the echoes of their exchange on Mustafar add to the meaning in Obi Wans crooked smile. The way the aggression of Vader shows all the anger and suffering that Vader and Anakin have carried for the last 20 years, and how Obi Wan, the master of the defensive form of combat can do nothing but retreat over and over again under Vaders assault.
This video is honestly canon in my opinion
This and Rogue one show exactly why Darth Vader is the OG, you don't mess with Vader, dude is a beast.
My grandfather would be ashamed watching me fight...
I just imagine the British kids going “It was hero turtles!” A going on about the Mandela effect.
Prequels had an epic story that added ALOT to cannon. This video is awesome, Vader's saber swings were powerful and aggressive.i love the saber throw, straight out of BF2.
It's not from BF2
I wish they would had kept the original stuff in to at the end because from my experience watching people fence and heavy fighting in the SCA, people usually either start fights or end fights being very slow and cautious. Two old men trying to overpower each other with the force only for that to fail they for them trying to out fence each other makes a lot of sense to me and I think adds depth.
With doing more Star Wars related reactions you guys really need to the Legacy of the Force fan film or the Star Wars Legends trailer by Marc Rienzo.
Reason why the Obi-Ani fight lasted so long is cause they both were at the top of their game using opposing styles. Their fight was basically the immovable object vs the irresistible force. It ultimately came down to one if them making a mistake out of anger and frustration.
Renegade media what about empire strikes back when vader fought luke. That fight was amazing. But I do love the fights in the prequels
If you guys want to check out some enhancements to the Battle of Yavin, check out Adywan's ANH Revisited. He's currently working on a HD version so after his work on ESB Revisited, expect the Battle of Yavin in ANHR HD to be even better. He's also currently working on ROTJ Revisited in tandem, including more emphasis on B-Wings in the Battle of Endor too.
Donnie Yen used Wing Chun against Tyson.
That is a lightsaber battle
This looks like the two most powerful Jedi of the Clone Wars duking it out, rather than two old guys swinging their read and blue canes while complaining about their arthritis and bad backs.
darth jar jar is still pulling the strings
Being an animator, the reason there is no bat on the Batman belt buckle in the animated versions is because it's too much to animate...details are often discouraged. Like you won't see polka-dotted coats and stripes etc. as well. Thought you would like to know!
The mandela effect is that the human brain has a lot of identical systems that has similar failures of memory. Add social media to that and you got your explaination.
Its just us having sucky brains.
Did u guys ever notice that the Justice League cartoon. Robin had like a yellow circle w a red R in some scenes in others the colors are reversed or whatever the 2 colors where. They did it w Batman in a few too Black bat with yellow circle and black circle w yellow bat.
My head cannon handles it like this: This fight is the force image of the fight that Obi-Wan saw in the future and away knew he couldn't win. So when he met Vader in real life, he forwent all of the pomp and pagentry and just let Vader strike him down.
The reflection of the lightsabers in Vader's eyes at the first closeup during the fight was an exceptional touch.
You can actually see the moment when Vader feels Luke's presence. And heads to the door.
My lightsaber flavor would be the horrible taste that you get when you drink orange juice after brushing your teeth.
Of all of the criticisms of the prequels, I've never thought the fights being too long was one of them lol.
They made this scene so well. Vader was menacing. These men had some serious unfinished business to handle!
You'd think sith lord would have enough control over his light saber to avoid hitting the walls.
this is my canon for this fight now
Oooofah, after all these years, belly guy on my left still bites his nails and would just not STFU!!!! Luv it. Team belly nails.
The right comment; say what you will about the prequels, but the fight scenes, the battle choreography? Bliss. Blissfully amazing fight scenes.
I agree, Rogue Squadron movie would be awesome!
This is pretty much how it went down for me when I watched it as a kid lol
10:00 Vader: You may have the high ground but the hallways belong to me.
Im watching this like 6th time still owsome :D
I know right?
This is now canon for me.
6:20
It was not drawn out it was perfectly balanced with emotion with a 3 movie story leading up to those two fights
I also thought that was C3P0's thumb :D
I think the reason the Revenge of the Sith fight was drawn out so long because Obiwan didn't want to finish Anakin. He had a clear advantage against Anakin, who was going at him fullbore from the start, while Obiwan held back out of affection for his student.
I like how throughout the fight scene we are routing for Vader but by the end we all feel bad.
One of the reasons the prequals had better fights, is the lightsaber props were stronger, and could take more of a beating during filming. the original sabers used in ANH were made of a very fragile that shattered if they were struck with the kind of force you'd need for something like this. During the filming of the original fight scene, the actors had to make sure their sabers never actually touched, or they'd break. Though if Disney did rerelease the original trilogy, I'd want this fight scene in ANH.
10:30 NOW THIS..........IS PODRACING
I don't know what alternate reality this was created in that Sir Alec Guinness was fit enough in his golden years to break out these kind of stunts, but I want to go there.
Take notes Disney, this is how a lightsaber duel should be
only thing the Mandela effect highlights is how fallible our memory is. The end.
So you think I would die in misery if I were to be cut down and taste black licorice? I love it. You're gonna have to try harder.
