STORM !! Crosswind Landings at Düsseldorf - Airbus A380, A340, Boeing 777, B767 ...

- A severe storm passed Europe yesterday and some pilots had to fight with extreme crosswinds again while trying to land at Düsseldorf. Storm "Katie" reached wind speeds up to 60 miles an hour and the wind was coming from South/East, which caused a 90° "wind attack" angle for the planes. Some airplanes which tried to land at Paris CDG or London Heathrow had to divert to other airports because the wind was way to strong.
I spent 8 hours at the airport yesterday and some of the clips are a little dark because I already started filming before sunrise. Check out the rabbits crosswing the runway while the Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 landed.
The annual "Crosswind Landing" competition took place at Düsseldorf again ;). Exactly one year ago I uploaded my last corsswind landing video.
Featured planes: Airbus A340-600, Airbus A380, Airbus A330, Airbus A320, Boeing 737, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Boeing 777, ERJ-170 and more.

this is a -600, its quite new with a nice turbofans. The substitute A350 has only recently entered service, I think it was the last quarter of 2015.
+Mateyhv1 True, I'm gutted Emirates are slowly killing off their 500's though. Thankfully Lufthansa and Virgin still have these 600's

Awesome vantage point. This was a very difficult day. Mostly for passengers. The pilots are bosses. And damn lucky rabbits!

My father used to be a flight attendant. He told me that bunnies on runway is normal in Europe.
Like almost every field in Europe has rabbits living in it and airports are usually made on fields

Were there some design issues with this airport? If cross wind happens so often, surely the runway should be designed in a different direction.

That 757 and 777 pilot around 2:10/2:30 nailed those landings. Nicely done.
Whereas those are good landings, it's hard to compare one landing in this video to another because we don't know the windspeed and especially the gusts near touchdown.

It was neat to see the deer crossing the runway at the 2:23 mark. Good thing they kept moving quickly as that plane was landing. Some of those landings were pretty dicey too. I remember landing a Cessna in Spain some years ago. The crosswind was such that I almost couldn't get the plane to track the runway heading. LOL Fortunately, the wind subsided enough on my long final, and I was able to land without incident, other than a fairly long stretch caught in ground effect. Fun times.
