Such a fun video, Alley. Love how you're constantly go...go...go, laughing your way through your travels, always up for the next adventure. My faves were the food, the dramatic 'late for the train' music, and esp your beautiful cherry blossom shots. What did the word you wrote on the paper you made mean?
@wanderlustalley I love that--so cool. Is there a phonetic english letters version that is pronouncable, or is that a transliteration of the sound "Alley?"
Went to Japan last year for 4 weeks. It was simply an amazing adventure. Went to Sapporo, Kyoto, Hakodate, Kobe, and Tokyo. Tokyo was for the anime-side of me, LOL. I love watching your videos, as soon as I pay off my first Japan trip, I'm going back, I have to go back, I'm addicted to Japan

Good morning ALLEY 😍 It was so beautiful As a Japanese, I was very happy. SUNDAY morning I saw your video and it made me smile Thank you very much. Have a nice weekend 💕
One of the things that makes JR Pass worth it for me is something you briefly mentioned. I may come out a few bucks less to buy separately but the time was a factor for me. There was no going to the ticket machines or looking at the maps to see what station I needed, etc. With the pass, you can just know if you're on a JR line and go. No need to stop and buy tickets every time (which isn't hard, just can take a few minutes here and there). Thanks for showing us your road trip. I haven't been to a few places here but would like to visit.
GREAT VIDEO! The Shinkansen is one of MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE THINGS OUT THERE! Did you know on it's first public televised test run in fall 1964 the news helicopters filming it STRUGGLED TO KEEP UP WITH IT! I mean a train beating a helicopter in 1964!! I LOVE THIS TRAIN SO MUCH & this was a great video too!! Cheers 🍶🍣🚅 🇯🇵 Japan seems INCREDIBLE & I CAN'T WAIT TO VIST SOMEDAY! 😎
I lost my wallet in Ireland in 2012 no Apple Pay no way of checking into my hotel… luck was on my side when I called the cab company the driver promptly found me and got it back! Gotta love hospitality of good people!
I was very surprised. I live in Kochi. Thank you for coming all the way to a distant place. Kochi is still not known to foreign travelers, but this has been found out. Speaking of Kochi's food, fresh bonito dishes and sweet potatoes. There are also activities in the most beautiful river in Japan. If you have another chance, please come and find a good place in Japan. Japanese people are waiting for friendly tourists with hospitality.❤
Cool trip to some nice places, but it also shows the problem tith the JRP after the price hike: You need to travel an awful lot in a short time to make it worth it. I've been to most of these places, but not all on a single trip, and certainly not all within a single week. And for a trip like this, assuming it has to start and end in Tokyo, I would probably fly to Fukuoka, and from there work my way back by train. Probably cheaper, surely quicker, and more flexible since no need to cram it all within 7 days. In April I did my 19th trip to Japan, and kinda made an effort to avoid trains whenever possible: Wakayama to Tokushima by ferry, Tokushima to Takamatsu by highway bus, Takamatsu to Okayama again by ferry via Shodoshima (and my first rental car experience in Japan), Okayama to Himeji was the only shinkansen ride, then local train to Kobe, and once again a ferry from Kobe to Kansai Airport. Not for a single moment have I even considered any railpass for that trip, clearly not worth it. As for losing stuff in Japan: During that trip I left my phone at a bench at a pretty busy spot in Wakayama, walked away, only discovered it quite a while later, ran back, and after half an hour it was still there. Back home if I would put it right in front of me, look away for a few seconds, chances are it might already been stolen....
All I have to say is the following: 1) The “dear” line …well played there guy but “oh dear 🤦🏻♂️” 2) that museum with the trippy flooring would have been just that for me…one trip after another…face planting palooza 3) no way in the world did I think that wallet was ever going to be seen again. That’s some kinda luck!
OMG!!! I stop at 21:20 The Japanese still do TV old school with full size cameras! And a two man crew! Here in Canada in the 1980s, SEVEN middle aged Japanese were here in my town for Ashai TV!
13:27 at this point, I was already 99% sure that the wallet would be found. I have only visited Japan 2 times (most recently in 2019), but the high personal and property safety was shocking (compared to Bay Area California). My cousin forgot his eyeglasses in a restaurant next at a train station and the next day it was in the lost and found. In Tokyo mall cafes, Japanese people would leave their laptops unattended on the table as they went to the bathroom. In Tokyo, commuter bikes were left unattended and unlocked on the street night and day (more in 2001, less in 2019).
Definitely have to look at what trains you will be taking to determine if it is cost effective and like you said basic trip it wouldn't be needed. Also I wish they would convert it to Apple Wallet like how the IC card can be used instead of the paper ticket. I saw one video where the guy went from Kagoshima to various stops along the Shinkansen route and ended at Hakodate.
@@wanderlustalley also only Mastercard can refill the IC card on Apple wallet for outside of Japan credit cards. I hope they can add Visa but supposedly in 2025 they releasing a new iOS app that will be for foreigners
What amazing and exciting trip that must have been. Man I should have done one of those crazy room things while I was in Tokyo. That looked so awesome. Yes super jealous you are to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. I still got to see them last year but it was the tale end of it as they were welting away, still cool to see all the blossoms in water, saw them by a little canal, but nothing like that. When I was there, I pretty much stayed in Tokyo so I didn't need the JR pass, wasn't worth it to me. Yes take note, if you stay in Tokyo you won't need it. And Klook was amazing for me to use, I was able to book everything through them. Highly recommend, I used them for tours and my Disney pass. Because some reason Tokyo Disney has a hard time taking foreign credit cards. Thank you for showing us around all the amazing spots and so SHOCKED he got his wallet back. And you are making me miss Japan, I want to go back, especially after all the new Disney stuff open up.
I always automatically bought a JR Pass to travel in Japan when I was single and also after getting married and having a family. It was always a great deal, but with the recent dramatic jump in JR Pass prices by around 70% the numbers just didn't work out for us when we went on our latest trip to Japan and so we didn't purchase JR Passes. I would say that if you're constantly on the move and only staying at each location for no more than a night or two and making long trips like Wanderlust Alley then a JR Pass may still be a good deal, but getting a JR Pass is no longer the no-brainer that it used to be.

It wasn't particularly lucky that his wallet was returned. In Japan, that's the norm. Although, there are those incredibly rare instances where something doesn't come back, which is almost unbelievable. It's quite the opposite of what we experience in our country 😂. Btw, while traveling in Japan, a friend of mine dropped his wallet on the train with a credit card, ¥50,000, and $600 inside. Additionally, my cousin left a small bag on a bench containing her iPhone15 and a wallet with $800. Both were returned to the Lost and found and a police box completely intact.🤣Omg
