@@davidgoldstein7149 yeah, the dawn wall and free soloing el cap aren't comparable. They both are tied along with ondra's silence for the greatest climbing achievement. There's no way to say which is #1 but I believe none of them deserve to not be in the #1 spot. Judging the movies alone, not influenced by the climbing feat, I also agree the dawn wall was a much better film. I feel free solo focused immensely too much on Alex's girl. I understand it was supposed to be a biopic from the start, but once soloing el cap became a legit option, they should've ditched most of the girlfriend drama and focused on the actual climb. The dawn wall covered Tommy's incredible background story, but at the same time it was fairly brief and straight forward. The majority of the film was pure climbing. Free solo only brushed on Alex's upbringing which I thought was awful. This man has done so much in yosemite alone previous to soloing el cap they could've filled up half of the film. His childhood was covered for 30 seconds. The rest of the film was about the girl. Overall, I left the theater in awe after seeing both films, but after seeing free solo for a 3rd time I really wish they took it in a different route. If it's the "greatest human athletic achivement in history, why is half of the film focused on his girlfriend?
Even though he seems like he would rather be elsewhere climbing than in a suit on the stage, he seems to be the one giving The most accurate and precise answers to the questions than everyone else. Funny too. The guy is super intelligent evidenced by the fact that the climbing seems like a puzzle of the mind and body skills together.
It's pretty crazy how you can clearly see Alex is not doing it for money or fame or any reason other than he just loves climbing. Not a lot of athletes have that pure love for the sport these days, and it's awesome that he hasn't really let fame effect him very much. I mean, he's obviously the best in the world, and he must know it, but I get the sense he's the kind of dude who would just be down to grab a beer with you on a Tuesday evening as if he's just a regular guy.
Well he doesn't drink so you won't be going out with him for a beer, and he's definitely the best free soloist in the world, as well as top 1% of climbers, but he himself has admitted he is not the best in the world.
I don't know what his financial goals are, in relation to climbing, but we can be sure he's making plenty of money on this film and the attendant media opportunities. When Peter Croft soloed Astroman, which relative to the progress of climbing at the time, was a HUGE milestone, only a small handful of climbers understood the significance of this accomplishment, and Peter Croft made no effort to earn a dollar for his effort. I believe Alex is capable of calculating all of the variables associated with climbing and documenting his landmark achievement, and I wish him well and hope he retires before the inevitable occurs.
There's an easy way to get the "Director's cut" version. I mean, it's easy, and impossible at the same time (impossible since you can't forget what you already know...). All you have to do is watch the movie without knowing if he succeeded, or if he fell and die, and it's a commemorative movie. Because that was what they felt back then. And it had to be absolutely horrific for them...
Happy to see the recognition and attention that Alex is getting. He is a rare individual with a great heart, a very good role model for young people. They should try to emulate his humility. He does not realize what he has accomplished because he is in it.

Such a big deal and great presentation of this documentary, couldn’t they at least have chairs a table for the group to sit down. At least make the guest more comfortable. Poor Alex.
I’m thinking, if one is climbing solo and the path up is no longer possible shouldn’t we have something to make it easy to get past a few hurdles. Something like a tube of rapid drying cement that sticks to the face, a gun that shoots an arrow into the face or a parachute that is lighter and smaller than any other yet. It will make the sport easier to watch although I’m not complaining. Thanks

@@MegzWassup1215 lmao yes we would first and foremost without Alex this film would have never happened plain and simple
@@MegzWassup1215 and it’s annoying that you have this victim mentality like nobody is taking away the work she did which was unbelievable she’s a crazy talented director and her being.l female has nothing to do with what this comment was saying😂🤦♂️
umm.. the act of free soloing is you know, solo. very few people would know who Alex is if it weren't for Elizabeth and Jimmy, the crew, the editors, the producers, on and on. Basically, everyone performed at their peak and we all are lucky enough to view the results of their collective effort.
6:26 The look on Alex's face lol
xD
Way to go Alex!!!!!!! :)
13:25 he just uses the fingers to hold the mic hahahahah
Alex Honnold in a suit? A tiger in africa?
Brett Sentance Are there not tigers in Africa?
Duncan Boynton Tigers are not indigenous to Africa, hence, 'a tiger in Africa' comment!
Yeah... The analogy is not obvious. Polar bear in the desert works better!
If you think alex is uncomfortable in th that suit you should see him hold a baby in the movie. It is hilarious. It was a great movie.
14:50 Jimmy - " you're just really good at it" .. haha
Skip to about 5:00
his hands are huge
Dan T. Huge hands equal huge, um.
Or was that huge feet? Or a huge nose?
Put it simple huge penis means huge penis
Brilliant Movie
The film would have been vastly improved if they cut out all the Sanni parts
What if there was rain in the middle of his climb??
Such a big deal and great presentation of this documentary, couldn’t they at least have chairs a table for the group to sit down. At least make the guest more comfortable. Poor Alex.
Yeah HKim, more comfortable climbing El Capitan without a rope than standing in a suit.
Alex looks exactly, like a young Mr Spock , That's the explanation, he's a Vulcan.
hoooooooly crap, you cracked the code.
Thanks
These kinds of people are badass and amazing! We should all clap in our sleep
Alex is awesome!
18:13 “
What’s the closest exit?”
One of the worst documentary film making - Let me finish - They did not show much of his climb which we would have loved to see. Instead they showed his girlfriend and others. you deserve more ALEX. We need one more documentary.
Does Anyone Know Do The Filmmakers Have The Full 4 Hour Climb On Video? Why Not An Uncut Limited Edition Signed Version 199 Boxset...….I want to see the entire think from the first minute...……...……......
