@Max Masteller As far as I know, Alex Honnold is the only person to ever Free Solo El Cap. Neither of those men you mentioned have. Unless I have misinterpreted what you were saying? If so, my apologies.
This movie is a must-see. Alex' focus, determination, detailed preparation, and training are the secret to his success. Obviously the media wants to focus on the fearful emotion, and the dire consequences of any mistake, but as you can see Alex is very calm - saying simply "don't make a mistake". That's not egotistical big balls talking. That's detailed preparation talking. Alex is a true inspiration.
Alex Honnold & Chai Vasarhelyi are just cool normal people, it's the news guy that is a total dork. Why are media people always the dorkiest people in the room?
Climbers devote all their talent to their craft, giving us superhuman feats like climbing El Cap solo in an afternoon. Journalists devote all their talent to vanity, giving us parrots who can't even pronounce a name, let alone ask a perceptive question. Oh well at least audiences can still tell the difference. But will the TV talking heads ever figure it out?
Craziest human accomplishment ever. The guy is a legend. Wish him the best. Actually hope he retires from the dangerous stuff. Don’t want to see this guy become a statistic.
I Think that their are climbers as good or better than Alex, which he has even stated previously. What sets him apart is the ice in his veins. The fearlessness. That is what astounds me the most about him.
Watching Alex free solo makes me nervous I used to free solo all the time 5.9 but he goes 5.11/12 (majority of the time) a lot harder and higher then again I climbed 3 years him 20 I hope he tones it down would hate to read him dying his free solo accomplishments may never be matched already
Alex is the god of climbing. All others who have climbed higher grades can claim they have climbed tough ones. But only Alex can climb without rope. Cheers!!!!
It's insane the way they attempt to present the artform alex executed. For anyone to try and (put crudely) dumb down the experiance of free soloing which is absolutely nothing short of a mystic experiance especially on that scale and, write it off as "scary" clearly has zero lack of understanding on why alex does this. Not trying to bash this news outlet, it's just astonishing how different of angles people can view the same film from.
I didn't realize it was that insane for people who have no knowledge of climbing. I pretty much thought the same before I learned about it and became interested. These folks just have to present something, not necessarily be interested enough to further comprehend a "mystic experience." I don't think alex would even call it a mystic experience or be as critical as say that these folks are dumbing things down.
They are local news people. Mostly, report on crime and other “newsy” items. I didn’t know anything about Alex until the JRE podcast and have been following his climbs since.
@@rajmathew7243 for the lack of better words I said mystic but Id agree those choice words dont suit the experiance. I've free solod some rather easy but high altitude climbs and I can definetly say mystic isn't far from what I experianced. I gotta say that saying they dumbed it down wasn't too critical though. Again not meant to bash because they honestly do have to dumb it down to the common non climber. Unless you've put yourself in a high consequence situation like that it's hard to understand. Appreciation is easy across all paths though!
@@jbossnack He's the guy who confused Samuel L Jackson for Lawrence Fishburne, if you want to see some more unintentional comedy I highly suggest you check it out.
The whole "being so close to it you don't realize the danger" doesn't really make sense to me. The more familiar you are with something the more in depth you would know of all the possible dangers involved
This reporter is the same one who mistaken Samuel L Jackson for Laurence Fishburne, right? He comes across so unprepared in this interview neithee. Doesn't know the names of the people, have no good questions, and pretty much winging it the whole time. His colleagues all know it.
Is there a next?, Are you scared?, What happens if you got one wrong move?, What motivates you?, Don't you feel death? - these are all idiotic media personnel questions since they're so ignorant got nothing to ask. Alex, try to ignore these interviews. These people are a disgrace to the "art of climbing" .
Alex pee pooped on my brothers face in November. It was humiliating for my brother, he went into a mental hospital due to excrement coming up into his face.
I absolutely love Alex’s personality. He’s so brutally honest and has such a wonderfully unique outlook on life. Love it. Huge inspiration.
lol that look they gave eachother after he couldn't pronounce their names
Hilarious.
Oh, good observation. I didn't notice it.
@April Showers Was gonna say, sounded like he nailed it!
hahaha gold
Very hard to pronounce Hungarian names especially Vasarhelyi never would make any English native speaker
I’m not a climber and probably never will be but this guy inspires and motivates the hell out of me.
"Very few people attempt this"... Yeah man 1 dude and he's sitting in front of you.
@Max Masteller As far as I know, Alex Honnold is the only person to ever Free Solo El Cap. Neither of those men you mentioned have. Unless I have misinterpreted what you were saying? If so, my apologies.
@Max Masteller Ahh ok mate, I understand, no worries. I see people on these type of videos constantly talking complete bs, all the time.
I think he meant free solo in general, not specifically El Capitan where Alex was the only one.
I love when Alex looks at Chai 30 seconds in and is like "this guy does not have a clue about what he is saying".
In all fairness at least he understands the magnitude of what Alex achieved
he did better than kimmel

Lily Lily my thoughts exactly lol😂
Their job is to make a big deal out of simple things 😂
That lady, "But if you make one wrong move...what?" You fall then just land on your feet and your fine
The greatest movie I ever watched..he is an amazing person and humble
Dude.......no words.......respect......
Hahahah "cracks are unstable"...this is so hard to watch. Alex and Chai have incredible patience.
It kind of makes sense. The layperson might think that a "cracked" rock would be crumbly
KTLA thanks for covering this . I can't wait to see it.
"I don't like watching it either"..."Let me show you a clip" lmao
Take deep breath in when this film starts, cuz you won’t breath again until til it’s over.
What a legend.
lots of people do it; he's crazy enough to not use a rope for backup
+pgreenx who else did this?
@@pgreenx Don't you think that's a huge difference?

It is thanks ENTIRELY to journalists (i.e. the free press) that Alex Honnold has the freedom and opportunity to climb rocks for a living.
driver3596 nope, it’s the north face for being his biggest sponsor
Naw, no big deal.
And the crack part is the safest part. Watching him bang rocks to check to see if handholds will stay makes your stomach churn.
Craziest human accomplishment ever. The guy is a legend. Wish him the best. Actually hope he retires from the dangerous stuff. Don’t want to see this guy become a statistic.
And that's how most of these guys die ... think of Ueli Sheck.
That is what is so outstanding (for me) about Alex, he is such an unassuming and pleasant guy.
He can't even pronounce his name correctly.

alex is the best free solo climber in the world hands down, nobody comes close.
True, they are few days away from winning an oscar. I cant wait
BTW, Jimmy Chin is also an ultimate badass climber (the main cameraman)-
"But that's why you make sure you don't make a wrong move." Alex just being Alex.
Alex Handhold and Chai Vermicelli!!!
Chris Shoe 😂😂
Alex anahl and chai vascerelli

God put those cracks their for Alex honnold😇
Yep ... even tho he's atheist.
These local news station interviews are so awkward and cringy. The fake excitement and enthusiasm they put out is terrible lol.
should watch the movie man, best thriller ever :D
North Face should be paying Alex millions a year
You could tell Alex didn’t Trust the Anchor interviewing them
Alex is a climbing machine!
His eyes are always dialated
3:25 What do you mean :^|
We are human. He is not. haha. That's basically what he means.

This interview is seriously cringe worthy and the look on chai and alex's faces make it even more painful to watch.
A giant among pygmies.
Congrats on Oscar !
These clueless stooges interviewing him are so insulting. At least get a rudimentary understanding of what’s involved before embarrassing yourselves
He kinda acts like he’s bewildered by how people don’t understand. Like why do you think it’s hard or scary. Pretty fascinating.
They should fire this guy, for general stupidity.
These news readers are such clueless actors. It’s embarrassing watching them
"That's why you make sure you don't make a wrong move"
*Climbs a sheer cliff with no equipment*
Yeah...
If he had fallen, would they have still made the film?
Alex is like spok off star track.. a vulcan.. emotionless..
Interviewer really did his research. Alex hennel, implements...
horrible interview
I just hate when interviewers don't get properd. Just look up facts and do reaserch so you don't look stupid and ask dumb questions. God!! 😒

next Gatorade commercial...I want to be like Alex...Like Alex, want to be like Alex...
How do you climb with those boulders?
"alex hennal" lol
and chai trying to take full credit
Alex had a harder time trying to talk to this horrible interviewer than doing the free solo climb.
Her name is Elizabeth, not Chai wtf?

Alex „Hannald“ Honnold
The Interviewer is also a brainer
Where can i watch online? Tia
Coffee with Dinner youtube lmao
She held the most godawful acceptance speech at the oscars, barely even thanking alex. It was rough to watch.
Honestly, this is no big deal. I just ran 10 kilometer under 50 minutes. Now that is epic !!!
