I bought the wired version as soon as they were available, and I messed around with the sound settings on Sonar, and I highly suggest you try some of the pro tuned settings. They have a TON of different sound scenarios that sound absolutely amazing! Perhaps you can drop a video demonstrating how these work with Sonar?
true, but that would be a single focused subject, PC gamers. All headphones and headsets can be tweaked with software. The best part of the Arctis Pro line is being able to have all your controls at a reach on the base station. I feel sonar is like Razer Synaps, not fun and forcing us to keep software open
@@TheTechne True. Console players would definitely need to have enough options at their fingertips that are independent of the software.
@@TheTechne I see your point. But I also think that for many people it isn't a problem to use the sonar software. So I think I would still appreciate if you could test that as well

Hi Techne today arrives my Nova Pro Wired version and first impressions are very good. I already tried a lot of things today and the audio quality is really awesome just out of the box for music, films and games. Plus Sonar software seems good, there are many tweaks to do and you can find a good setup for almost every situation. Also they are very lightweight, very very very comfortable and the earpads maybe it's a little bit hotter but they are very soft and have zero sound leakage. The oled display DAC it's very good also. It's just one day but I'm already very happy with them. Thank you for your work and for your advice 👍🔝

I use a very similar custom EQ as what you have set up. Playing racing games I turned the gain down in the setting and it helped out greatly.

Hi Techne! Appreciate the videos. The one thing that has me iffy on this headset and just with Steelseries products in general, is they only offer 1 year manufacturers warranty in the US. Most other peripheral manufacturers offer at least 2 years. The Nova’s are very enticing, but considering the spotty build quality you mention, not sure if I can pull the trigger on these.
Just picked these up, I have always used wired headsets, mostly astro mix amp with a different headset.
I have tried it out on my pc, will have to say, they sound really good guys. Very crisp and clear, will mess around with the eq settings. They are loud, will say that. Will try them out on my ps5, I know you can't use the chat mix audio on the dac, but I guess we just use the menu on the ds controller.
I have always liked the astro mix amps, but they have not really updated those in a few years, getting old imo.
Any ways, great review dude.

Hi Techne today on my nova pro wired I change the original ear pads with a pair of Wicked Cushions Freeze (model with gel on 2 side). Perfect fit and now they are really Stinkin Cozy, much more comfort and no more hot ears. Also with my big surprise the sound isolation is almost the same as original and I haven't notice performance drop in sound. Perfect 👍🔝

These headphones sound incredible with the Nintendo switch plug in through the 3.5 mm jack
The best part was that they made the hangers plastic, biggest failure point of the old ones was the metal hangers pinned to the plastic earcups. Maybe the new hanger design of these and the refreshed 7+ will help them last longer.

Dude. I bought the wireless version (xbox version to use with ps5 also) and theyre amazing! So curious about the wired version now lol. But i wanted an actual GOOD headset that worked with both ps5 and xbox. My prayers have been answered. Price sucks but theyre worth it. At least for how i like to listen to youtube and game at the same time via the dual connection. Bass is great too. You dont need booming bass with these. They have great bass and you can turn it up to. 10/10 for me
You can connect them wired with the jack, and they'll perform as the wired version - at least that's how I understand it.
just subscribed liked and bought the headphones. Im currently playing with the sonar game/chat/microphone settings. Do you have a video show the best presets. I have no idea what I am doing here in the software. Thank you keep it up!

You’re right, that interior part of the ear cups looks sus, I’m honestly already considering Wicked Cushions even if the pads on the pros are good. Wicked cushions Leatherette pads completed my Arctis Pro Wireless and made them perfect isolating the sound and making them so much more comfortable than the mesh they came with. They are still going strong too, never a tear or anything. Thank you again for your review Techne. Even though you’re making me wait another day for the Nova Pro Wireless review 😂 oh, one question though, is the ‘’Focus’’ profile substituting the ‘’Performance’’ profile that the older pro wireless have? Because I haven’t seen a ‘’Performance’’ profile on the nova pro wireless in any review thus far.

I cannot located gunshot as accurate as before , missing some footstep as well …

I got the Arctis Pro old edition about five years ago I think. I ask you if you would prefer the Astro A40s or the Steel series more. You said steel series and you couldn’t have been more right. I love them and would still use them to this day but unfortunately after dropping them one to many times they finally cracked. Looking forward to this new Nova set. You always do great reviews

Can you post the exact details of your custom eq settings?
I know you probably can't help me but I thought I'd give it a try. I bought them after watching your review. I've been happy with them but starting two days ago i went to use my mic and ran into a problem. Sonar isn't picking up the mic, But it will detect my mic when I open the Microsoft sound settings on recording, but I have to leave that open or sonar won't detect the mic at all. I messaged steelseries about my problem I've been messaging jayr from (SteelSeries Customer Experience) he had me try doing a clean reinstall of both SteelSeries GG and your device drivers which didn't work this was yesterday then later yesterday i tried the beta gg for steaming then the mic worked. But guess what, it stopped working this morning with the same problem as before and did a clean reinstall of gg again with no change. I messaged steelseries again. I've only had them since oct 25 2022. I got them because I need a good microphone for voice commands for gaming because I'm disabled and have limited mobility in my arms.
Hi great review, just brought arena 7 speakers . Will these headphones work as 7.1 without gamedac as speakers only have 3.5 connection and not usb, or do I just ditch gamedac, also is the wire long enough without to reach speaker as headphone connection on left goes to right speaker in arenas, so flows across keyboard ,would of made sense to go to left speaker or an I just being thick?
I tried on the nova7x and it was really small on my head... Are these the same fit? Or little bigger ? Also, can you properly mix chat and game audio ON PC?? Thank you for the video bro 👍🏼

So I just got these...AMAZING! I upgraded from my Arctis 7X. First...the new ear pads are really nice and soft...but I just dont like the tacky feeling after a longer period of use. My Arctis 7X had the microweave ones and I loved that...WELL THEY FIT ON THE NOVA PRO! They are a touch loose but completely useable and non bothersome on your head! So if you get the Nova pros, and have Arctis....swap the pads if you like the old version pad better. I did and not looking back at all!
I like the fact that the dac uses 3.5 jack because the old version was proprietary so you couldn’t use other headsets with it

How does the gamedac compare to the old one? I use mine to bypass audio from ps5 controller to pc so I can chat on discord with my bros while playing on my ps5.

The way you talk about sound is like a chef talking about his food.
I’m really tempted to get these but like he mentioned I’m worried about those plastic hook things that connect the headband and headphone part. I’ve had my arctic 9x for about 2 years now, or less, and that was my main complaint. The plastic started breaking after 1 year and I’ve never been rough with my headsets. not sure why it’s so weak but it REALLY bothers me.

yo techne great video as always love your reviews, u mentioned the sonar to do eq’s on pc, im strictly a xbox guy can you save profiles for specific games onto the dac? and if so how many slots can you save?
Sonar only works on PC. That said, there are EQ presets and with the DAC you can update EQ settings.
sonar is only pc, but you can set and save your eq on the station
cool thts what i meant like get the eq via pc to save the profile on the dac and then use on xbox

Find they struggle with bass and upping in the EQ makes it distorted

I know it has been a while, but can an external mic be used with with this dac to chat on say an Xbox, using the line-in?
E.g. XLR or dynamic mic to regular mixer, mixer line-out to game dac gen 2 line in, to chat.
i want to know the wireless version work on XBOX with 24bit, but the wired version just work on XBOX with 16bit? thanks! it's important!

I got the wireless ones and emailed them and they said “no future plans”. I find that very hard to believe. Steel series does have a video showing the ear cushions can be removed but it’s attached different than pro wireless due to the noise cancelling requiring a good seal

Purchased and been using them for a few days. Haven't had any major issues but it won't let me change eq settings from the DAC. When I go to audio settings it just says sonar.
Since I won't be using the headset's microphone, can I replace the included weak cable with a normal (three poles) 3.5mm to 3.5mm one?

SteelSeries Wired headset mics are pretty good, but I wish they could mirror that quality in their wireless mics. Razer sounds amazing wireless and good wired. Not sure about Logitech though, I'd need to listen to a comparison.
Are these better than the previous wired Arctis Pros with Game Dac?

Just today on my nova pro wired I change the original ear pads with the wicked cushions freeze (model with gel on two side). much more comfort, no more hot ears and sound performance almost the same as original. I can say they worth the price. Greetings from Italy 👍
