I've been a pretty loyal Streamlight user for about 10 years now. I have had the MicroUSB for a while and don't think I could do without it at this point.
@@seribas What I was trying to say is that in the last 10 years, the technology in flashlights has progressed so much and there are better options out there. Maybe OP isn´t aware of that. The beam in the video looks really bad.
@@jirkav What light would you suggest that is about the size of the micro usb? I don’t want to go larger than that and I’m open to suggestions for a better option. Thanks.
Long time viewer here… I’ve never clicked on a new video so fast! I’ve been carrying the Microstream USB for about 2 years or so now. It goes totally unnoticed in my pocket. My day job is an I.T. Tech at a school system. I use the flashlight all the time, looking at network port numbers tucked behind desks, etc. One thing worth noting on the Coyote color version of the Microstream USB is the mode is reversed. It starts out in bright mode, unlike the black, which starts out in low mode like you mention in the video. Most of the time, high mode is too bright when looking behind desks and what not. Camping or walking around my property after dark, high mode is perfect though.
As a loyal streamlighter for years I started at a new shop a few months ago and couldn’t believe how many people carry them here as well. Great lights but what I don’t think is mentioned enough is the cost. A baton olight is great too but if you lose it that ruins your day. A stream light is still a bummer but the price is a game changer.
I’ve carried the micro stream since 2013. I found one on the floor at Vanderbilt when my newborn daughter had open heart a few days after she was born. I’m on my second one now.
I've been carrying the micro stream for years. The versatility of it is awesome. Bulletproof construction you can drop it on concrete floors all day and sustain NO damage. I have bought a dozen or so over the years (not due to failure just because I keep them everywhere truck, pocket, safe, tool box, desk drawer) the tan colored micro USB starts in high mode (which I prefer) bottom line buy with confidence, and at the price point buy a few always good to have back ups and they make for great gifts
Oh shit, great tip on the tan colored one. That was the number one reason I was excited to switch from my microstream usb to the macrostream, I almost always wanted high mode on the microstream and got tired of the double click to get there.
Been hearing about Streamlight stuff for years, but have continually fallen prey to cheaper knockoffs in similar sizes. I'm happy to hear the MicroStreams really are tough, because I'm pretty sick of replacing "cheapies" when they fail in no time flat. Save yourself some money, go for the Streamlight first!
I've been carrying a Klarus E1 for a year. Absolutely the best for pocket carrying and for the money. Daily and Tactical mode with memory function and momentary mode in a 4" length and 1.000 lumens... Just awesome!
5000%! This just happened! Left it in My house pants accidentally. Got into the washer..we heard something metallic banging around! Got My light.. dissembled...let dry for almost 3 hrs... put it back together and... Light!!!! These are the Best! Now, I had a couple battery streams before I purchased the rechargeable.. which BTW was in2019!!! Seriously!! There may be other great lights... but for money, durability, performance,, lumens.. this is the Best!!! Thank You Streamlight!!!
This video convinced me to finally buy an EDC light. I carry a Streamlight Penlight for work and wanted something with more lumens for my daily carry and your video helped me land on the Macrostream. I ordered one today and I am pretty excited.
I carry an original micro as a second utility light. It’s so original, it has a straight clip (not an s-clip). It gets used daily. I’m on my 3rd bulb and second tail cap. The light was worn to a polished silver until the click-cap section got replaced. Now it looks partly new and well worn. Customer service has been great. I’ve purchased several of these as gifts for friends. I have been eyeing the USB rechargeable version.

I bought the pen pro version about 3 years ago. It has been through the washing machine twice and ran over with a lawn mower. Still working. Love that thing.
Pretty much everything Streamlight makes it GTG, so can't fault you for liking the Macrostream. Had a Macrostream, liked it, but recently "upgraded" to an Olight Mini Warrior 2 as my EDC light. It has all the things I find important in an EDC light. It's rechargeable, bright as hell, has 2 activation buttons(which is great as I know how much light I'm going to get depending on which switch I use), and has pretty decent battery life. As long as it doesn't explode on me I feel that I've found a "keeper", so definitely a light you might want to check out.
Lumintop tool aa 2.0 is my most recommended and has been for a long time. Only complaint is the worst pocket clip design ever. Thankfully there are several other options for clips. Makes the lumintop tool aa 2.0 the closest to perfect that I've found.
I have 2 of the originals, 2 USB brown ones, and 1 macro-stream. I'd have to say the brown rechargeable 250 lumen tactical version is my favorite. I take it wherever I go.
being able to use the light attached to your hat brim is key IMO. Totally agree with wanting to have the magnetic base for numerous reasons. I have still been rocking my tiny Olight keychain light. I have one on every keychain and have purchased them as gifts. Use them all the time!!
3+ years on a micrstream USB. if you get the coyote brown one, it has the high output first click, then low output on the 2nd click like the macrostream. i also have a macrostream that's about 2 years old that i rarely use. comparing the dimensions of the macro to the micro, it looked to be not that much larger on paper than the micro. once i got it and started EDCing it, i went back to the micro because it's just so damn small and unnoticeable throughout the day. the macro goes on camping trips and has much better runtime, but in the day to day life as a mechanic, i find the micro to be the perfect tool. mine is so beat up from daily use that over 50% of the hard anodize finish has worn off. looks thrashed but keeps on truckin
I carry the Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA and it has been an awesome EDC light. I would definitely check it out because I think it fits right in with those.
I have 3 Fenix flashlights. The e12 v2.0, the e28r and the Tk16 v 2.0, but I carry the e 12 the most, and after carrying it for about 5 months now, I absolutely cannot take it out of my edc. I still want to try Surefire and Streamlight as well but I’m going to give Fenix a couple years to show me what they’re all about. Nice vid💯💯
I just bought these two lights the other day but went with the coyote mini instead. I like my lights to activate on bright first or only. So far love them both, I’m in Florida so when wearing light weight shorts I carry the mini and all other times the Macro. I own a ton of Streamlight flashlights from gun mounted to handheld and I’ve never had one fail yet! Great lights and the price also makes them a bargain.
Same - 6p, 6p converted to 9p, g2, would still love a z2 combat light, but they all live in a drawer, car seat pocket, and emergency bag in my trunk. On my person at any given time is a Micro USB, and when out at night or in crowds I bring along my ProTac 1L-1AA. Am considering a ProTac90 as well.
Bro thank you for explaining the slide out USB port. I stumbled across the macrostream at work so I didn't know how to charge it so I never used it. Taking it home for EDC use now.
I carry the micro stream USB in coyote tan, so it's super bright first, then lower brightness second. I love it. I've given it as a gift to my dad, my father in law and brother in law
Had the Microstream USB for about 2 years. Got one for my wife as well. I love it! Make sure to get from an authorized dealer. Got a knock off from Amazon. It came in a plain white box… huge giveaway that it’s not legit.
Fits perfectly in the leatherman holster too. I've had the USB version for 2 years. Bought 3 of them and I keep em in separate bags and swap em out when I need a light and forgot to charge one
I've had my streamight Micro USB in my pocket since they came out. It replaced my Stylus Pro Id had for years. Boba Fetting! Love it! Never heard that before. But ya. The patina on mine is beautiful. Looks loved and well used. Was thinking of getting the Macro. I'm very brand loyal. But ordered an Archer Pro to try because it looked like it was close to the Micro size. Though from videos I could be very wrong. Guessing I end up with a Macro in my pocket but we will see how it goes. Anyway love the channel and appreciate the content!
I forgot about this thing too! 🤣 I'm definitely gonna be picking one of these up soon, as a placeholder until Cloud Defensive releases their EDC handheld light.
I just bought the micro stream in Coyote color. I noticed it comes on high mode first which I like! Just FYI to everyone, It says in the directions the coyote color starts in high. The black color starts in low. I'm glad I chose the right one for me but I never saw this info when doing research.
I’ve been carrying the streamlight macrostream for about a year now it’s definitely my favorite edc light also fits in my leatherman holster I got from Etsy so it’s with my everyday at work. Should have hid behind something when saying “Olight if you know you know” cause they blow up.
Owned several micro streams. They’ve gone through the wash, been ran over with my truck… still burning bright. I have a few just so I can keep them in multiple places as well as on my person. Inexpensive, too. They make fantastic gifts and they’re infectious. People I’ve gotten them for end up getting them for other people as well. How cool is that?
Great video Talon! Unfortunately, ever since you released your video reviews about Olight weapon lights I've been hooked on their products for the last 3 years. Olight has been part of my everyday EDC. Keep up the great work and stay safe!
I carry ALL streamlight on My fire gear and I got a micro stream at a firefighter conference and it's an awesome little light I've been carrying it for a few months and absolutely love it so far
I go back and forth EDC the Streamlight Micro or my Stylus Pro usb and just got the Micro USB for my sons for Christmas. Would never want to be without them.
Love the Macrostream, mine's beat all to hell, and the original battery works just fine after a year of heavy use. For 39 dollars I'm very happy. Might have to grab another, just a fantastic little light.
Streamlight Protac 90 @Talon Sei. I carry the 90 in my pocket and the Streamlight microstream USB around my neck always. That's my light solution, give it a try it's perfect, of course my opinion. Great content as always brother keep it up and thank you!
I chose the Macrostream because it's small, strong enough, and has a button on the back. Any better lights have downsides like where the button is located, or size
I got a MacroStream for free a few months ago and I loved it so much that I winded up buying 2 more just for work and to EDC. Used to carrying ProTacs but they're so much bigger that I don't carry them everyday.
Good video I have been carrying a streamlight wedge and for what I do is become my favorite EDC light. Even ended up buying my dad one and giving to him and he loves it. Rechargeable but will really makes it good for me is it uses USB-C
I have a streamlight that I was turning my composter at night (what? You don’t grow some of your own food?) and it fell off the branch I clipped it to, and stayed behind the composter all winter, and it still works! Just a little pitting, and the clip was rusty so I replaced the clip. You’d never know now that it was frozen for 5 months!
I carry the macrostream daily, because I prefer the high mode first style. I also have other lights around the house and in my vehicles for different applications.
Great EDC task light. Washed mine a couple times and it’s rock solid still. Love the size too. Wouldn’t really recommend it for a defensive light though.
Streamlight micro USB is my pocket EDC now. I used to carry the Olight S1R. About half of the Olight lights I’ve owned have had some sort of QC issue. Failing to properly charge, failure to hold a charge, failure to operate. Olight has been good with customer service but I don’t think their product can be trusted. I also don’t like the proprietary charging. For walking the dog, they’re fine but if reliability needs to be assured I don’t think they’re viable options. Had Olights on a few firearms but have since replaced them with other options.
Ive had the same SL stylus in my pocket for about 5-6 years. Its been through a hell of a lot at work. (Welding and building racecars) There is almost no finish on it, and it has had the lens trashed in a blast booth many times. I had to take sandpaper to the lens many times. Its still kicking just fine. I cant get rid of it. I do have others on standby just in case though
Talon, it may not be your jam if you prefer simple UI on your lights, but I cannot recommend the D4V2 enough. They're made by this guy, Hank, from Intl-outdoors. Smooth ramping between brightness and you can even ramp between different emitters. You could do 2 warm lights, and 2 cooler lights to choose a color temp that you like. or you could choose a floodier LED, and a throwier LED for outdoor use. It uses Anduril 2 which is a flashlight firmware thats constantly being updated. You can even update your existing light!
My microstreams are completely water proof. They have been through the washers many of times. We have also turned them all on and threw them in our swimming pool for night swimming.
The black and colored microstreams are low first then high, the coyote version 66608 is high then low. Not sure if there is something like that on the macrostream also. I used a micro for a while, till I found the Streamlight wedge, it was the perfect balance for me, just wish it had the double sided pocket clip.
I have used and abused the microstream for over a year in my work and it has done well. My coworker got a macrostream and dropped it while working only 2 feet from the ground and it died. The micro seems to be built far more durable.
Kind of funny I have the fc11 but don't carry it bc i don't like the size. (Great for around the house tho.) Waiting on my microstream to show up. Hopefully I'll be satisfied with the brightness.
If not perfect, close enough. I had a Microstream USB and my father still has one, which he likes a lot. The two outputs are fine for all everyday needs (specially indoors) and USB recharge is a tremendous convenience, particularly for folks that often have a computer around.
I used the micro for years. Once I realized that a flashlight was my most used item in my EDC, I decided to try the macro as an EDC. I love this thing and won't be going back to the micro. The micro is great but if I find myself needing to use it for an extended period of time (pretty often since I walk my dog after work) it leaves me wanting more. The macro is robust enough to handle impromptu walks at night no problem, yet small enough to EDC. (Also, the button is much easier to use).
My micro stream has a slight flicker when pressing the button through and sometimes it will be dimmer than it’s suppose to be unless I wack it or press the button again
Love these. Found one on the floor at the school I was working at and totally snatched it. Can't find it atm but will be replacing It soon if it doesn't pop up as I love it. Like you said, the hat clip is amazing, especially when working on bikes. Wen't and looked at the macro and it is ALMOST just barely A bit big for me. I do like that the macro going straight to full blast. Idk, I may buy one for winter carry because I wear heavy insulated pants with lots of tool pockets in the winters here (which are long and gnarly) at work. Also could go in my little tool bag
Been carrying streamlight micro stream for over a year now it's the perfect EDC flashlight... Small compact rechargeable... Mine comes on high at first click... Then low .. just two settings is all you need... You don't need strobe and flashing and six different settings just two settings is all you need..
Carried the original for years then upgraded to the USB version. Lost it then went with an Olight Baton 3. Luckily found my USB version and now split between the Olight and the Streamlight but prefer the Streamlight.
I’ve probably owned 4 or 5 micro streams since they came out. I still have the usb version and carry it once in a while. But takes the back seat to my new edc light, olight warrior mini 2 with 1500 lumen.
Warrior mini 2 improves on the original with an output of 1750 lumens if I'm not mistaken. I have the original warrior mini in Ti - it's a lot heavier than the vanilla version. I'm done pocketing 18650 flashlights day to day for now. I have a Perun in my pack and my warrior mini will be relegated to bedside flashlight when my macrostream arrives.
The wedge is the best EDC light I've ever carried. Literally the only downside for me is I haven't found to be able to shoot with it very well. (Still working on trying new grip form though)
I have the small rechargeable. It's nice, but I'm old and blind, so I require more light. I work a lot on electrical and access control panels, so magnetic bases are exceptionally helpful.
8:04 I've sent my microstream through the washer more times than I can count and it always comes out without issue. These things are tanks. The only way they stop working is if you lose it, which is easy to do.
Epoxy a magnet onto the end for flat standing and magnetic attach? Or would that make the switch not usable? Otherwise, 3d print something for that end?
Usb micro is my EDC. Battery life is just enough for my daily and work activities unless I need something with a lot more output then im probably using my helmet mounted streamlight.
My EDC, Fenix E35 V3 is a little big in the pocket, but i've gotten very used to it. The best part is I have 3000 lumens at hand. I also got the LR35R from Fenix, with 10K lumens lmao, I love it.
Been carrying a micro stream USB for several years now. Absolutely love it. For my use case, it’s a perfect EDC light.

I just bought a Macrostream. Really like it. Thanks for the review.
Ya dude, been using that light for about 8months or so now. Its freakin rad! I even use it at work too.
I was wondering if you ever found the perfect edc flashlight yet since this video is now 7 months old. Thanks!
Great video Talon! Unfortunately, ever since you released your video reviews about Olight weapon lights I've been hooked on their products for the last 3 years. Olight has been part of my everyday EDC.
Keep up the great work and stay safe!
Lost mine last Tuesday and it snowed. Found it today on the ground in melted snow. Still works!!!!!!!
This is the first time I got a notification for your videos in over a year.👍
The lumintop tool as 2.0 is an amazing edc light. Pretty damn durable too.
Awesome light that gets ruined by the shittiest pocket clip.
All are excellent lights IMO. The Macro is my go to though. Love the size for 500 lumens.
I chose the Macrostream because it's small, strong enough, and has a button on the back. Any better lights have downsides like where the button is located, or size
I have the microstream usb as well as the macro and they are both really good lights. I tend to grab the micro more so far.
I have 3 microstreams and one protac 1aa. I love the light weight, and the simplicity.
I use to carry the Microstream rechargable but upgraded to the Macrostream. wondering if the wedge would be a better option..... what you think?
I’ve had at least a dozen streamlight lights, loved all of them!
I carried the Micro stream USB for a few months and loved it, but recently I switched to an FC11, but I was very happy with the Micro stream.
Kind of funny I have the fc11 but don't carry it bc i don't like the size. (Great for around the house tho.) Waiting on my microstream to show up. Hopefully I'll be satisfied with the brightness.
@@johndoe9843 I also just switched to a d4v2 just a few days ago lol.
@@epicswordmewz7007 I ain't that fancy haha. That's cool though. You like it so far?
@@johndoe9843 Yeah, it's awesome!
Love the micro. Lost 3 of em from back pocket carry, my own fault. Thanks for the comparison that’s what I needed
I absolutely love my micro USB. I’ll be grabbing a macro soon hopefully.
If not perfect, close enough. I had a Microstream USB and my father still has one, which he likes a lot. The two outputs are fine for all everyday needs (specially indoors) and USB recharge is a tremendous convenience, particularly for folks that often have a computer around.
FYI they do make micro streams that start on high and second click to low. The brown one I have is like that
I used the micro for years.
Which one is the macro? Thx brother!
I have the macrostream and the 2lx for edc. I carry the macro more as it's smaller and also bright enough to see at more than 90 meters.
i rock one of the Microstream USB lights... great light for EDC for sure!
Love my micro stream usb! Great functionality in a small package! Hard to beat for sure!
I carry the microstream usb at work.
Off work I recently switched to a Massdrop / lumintop brass AAA with a Nitchia 219c.
Any Luck with that grip? 😂
@@fredfisher8154 settled on just shooting one handed is better haha 😆
Surefire all the way👊🏻🇺🇸
I have the small rechargeable. It's nice, but I'm old and blind, so I require more light. I work a lot on electrical and access control panels, so magnetic bases are exceptionally helpful.
The streamlight wedge has been in my pocket for quite a while now. Can't complain.
8:04 I've sent my microstream through the washer more times than I can count and it always comes out without issue. These things are tanks. The only way they stop working is if you lose it, which is easy to do.
Highly recommend the Malkoff MDC Bodyguard as well as the MDC AA. Fantastic USA Made flashlight.
Epoxy a magnet onto the end for flat standing and magnetic attach? Or would that make the switch not usable? Otherwise, 3d print something for that end?
What is it with Olight?
They're trash can't handle anything break very quick and don't do well with water
I carry the coyote microstream which has high mode first and I love it. Have no desire to change it out, it does everything I need
Two questions after the review, can you tail stand it and is it magnetic?
Usb micro is my EDC. Battery life is just enough for my daily and work activities unless I need something with a lot more output then im probably using my helmet mounted streamlight.
Not sure about the macro but my stylist pro (the long pen size of the micro) you can take the rubber button off and then you can tail stand it
My EDC, Fenix E35 V3 is a little big in the pocket, but i've gotten very used to it. The best part is I have 3000 lumens at hand. I also got the LR35R from Fenix, with 10K lumens lmao, I love it.
I’m new to edc and have couple olights and a rovyvon. What’s up with olight? I don’t know..lol
