    Speaking of self defense, most shooting positions are primarily taught with lights that have a tail switch. The side switch was the biggest complaint coming out of the tactical community.

    • @solidus1995
      @solidus1995 6 месяцев назад +1

      Not a shooting light though. The orignal wedge is faster because you don't have to orient the light to hit the tail. Side switch is right there out the pocket for you. Look at auto blades...many of them have a side switch and have the same profile as the wedge.
      Not to mention if you want to use a light for self defense it would have to be longer and it can't have a tail switch because if you jab with the light you need to grip the butt of the light with your thumb.

    The MacroStream usb rechargeable is also 500 lm and 50 lm but the charge port is covered. It might take up less space and is half the price. Don’t see the advantage of the wedge xt.
    Edit: nvm just realized macrostream is still micro usb

    I carry a modlite for "bipedal mammal" purposes and this streamlight XT for admin stuff. I was able to get 12+ hours out of a charge on low when my daughter wanted a night light during a power outage. Im happy with it as an admin light. I do wish there was a bit of a shroud around the tail switch to reduce inadvertently activating it without using lockout mode.

    P for me. The Wedge seemed nice (simple UI) but found it a little too big and too pricey. A smaller version would have been great. But the XT is not what most people are looking for I think. And no protective caps on the charging ports is so weird: some brands even throw a second one in the box.

    I love how simple the original wedge is. Easy to deploy and turn on. No learning curve or complicated ui. I was hoping they would make it slightly shorter and add a half stop on the switch for a lower lumen mode as 300 is too bright for retaining night vision. That would of been the perfect light for me and would be worth the extra money.

      Update on this. Been loving the new wedge. A great size, I carry it in my back right pocket and forget it’s there. Tail-switch is much easier to deploy than I originally thought, haven’t missed the side switch. Brightness is great, the low setting is bright enough to be functional but not kill your night vision. High setting I haven’t needed brighter yet. It’s more “floody” so it’s great edc task light. Throw is good but not great, you need a different light for that. Battery life hasn’t been an issue charge it once a week. Best part is that it’s still simple. Pull it out, turn it on. No thinking or remembering UI necessary. Bought it for around 80 and I’m pleased with it for the price, it feels solid and functions well. I feel I have a much better value than the original wedge.

  • @Jonboy4371
    @Jonboy4371 7 месяцев назад

    I gave my wedge away, I like a very defined hotspot and it needed the reversible clip. I really feel like stream light should make a separate purchase option for this clip. One final thing I would like to see on it would be a magnet. I work around a lot of oilfield equipment and man is it handy to just throw up on something and it stick . With that said I currently started carrying the Milwaukee EDC 500 lumen flash light. It has all of these features I want and can be picked up at Home Depot for like $60

    It would be hard for a flashlight brand outside of Olight to get my business anymore because Olight actively courted me as a customer and every time I shop with them I get a freebie thrown in. Like I just got the ILR Pro thrown in with my last purchase. I have a bunch of free keychain size flashlights they gave me over the years. Also, I love Olight's UI. My main flashlight is the S2R Baton 2 (upgraded versions called the Baton 3) and it does it all, and I never forget how to get to all the modes. (Except for the timer. I don't know what I'd use the timer for. lol) I'm about to get a diffuser from Etsy for it so it works better as a lantern, too. Anyway, I'm an Olight boy because they wanted my business the most. One time they were slow in shipping and they included an apology note and a microfiber cloth as a gift. Little things like that work for me!

    The ONLY thing the first Wedge needed was to separate the brightness levels some more. (Instead of 500/750 lumens it needed to be 300/750 lumens)
    The Wedge sat in my pocket for over a year and is an amazing flashlight. The only thing that could take it's place in my pocket so far has been the Fenix PD25R

  • @user-et1hg6kh6n
    @user-et1hg6kh6n 5 месяцев назад

    the fenix EO3R is half the size, has more modes and a red led as well, its only lacking a pocket clip and click button but, since no one here is depending on either of these to "operate" its kind of a non issue.

    Thanks for the review. I'm waiting and hoping for Nitecore to make some more flat models. They have so many iterations of the keychain flashlight, I'm hoping they expand in the flat genrr beyond the edc27. I'd love to see a flat pocket edc version of the TIP SE, maybe twice in length and weight, with a real pocket clip. Lighter, shorter, simpler and less tactical than the edc 27, but like that one, built for pocket carry.
    May this new streamlight xt be the first of more flat lights to be released by manufacturers in the next year.
