- UPDATE: This video is really old and I no longer have the equipment necessary to test it out or put out an updated video, good luck!
I've always wanted to try out head tracking but can't afford TrackIR right now. I do have a Wii remote hanging around and thought why couldn't that work?

Finally a use for my wii remote that was collecting dust. Screw even buying any expensive solution, this does the job.
did it say you need a wii for this however to power on the sensor bar?
This is the best functional and greatest video I've ever seen in RUclips platform. I'll try it tomorrow with my wii remote too thanks man! 😊
Good music
Gonna try this in MSFS 2020.
brilliant video. I was looking into this the last few days. This is the most clarity I have. Thank you. Going to give it a go this weekend.
I came from the year 2024 to tell you that you dont need to use the actual remote control, the sensor bar will pick up any IR sensors. I saw someone who got a pair of saftey glasses with LED lights on each side , they just swapped out the LEDs for IR sensors and it worked.
Wow... You deserve way more views. I will do this for sure, but should I use a Wii U or Wii controller?
Thanks man though I'm not even sure if this method works anymore. Using a Wii controller is what I did here. Good luck!
This is awesome. And may I ask how you connected the Wiimote to your PC? My PC doesn't have any bluetooth compatibility and I'm trying to get around this. Oh, and also. Do you think it's possible to ''reverse'' this? Meaning, placing the sensor on your headset and the wiimote itself on the monitor, to reduce weigh? I'm sure it's possible :)
Yep you can reverse the camera/IR led positions but if you plan to use the Wii sensor bar it may not work so well, might have something to do with the Wii sensor bar having 3 led's in each end. What you'd want to do is get a different IR led source. If you're handy with electronics you can make a 3 point tracker quite easily or pick one up off ebay like this ebay.to/1UjBNR0
To connect to my PC I had a usb bluetooth dongle. These can also be picked up from ebay. BT dongles that use the "Bluesoleil" software can easily connect to a Wiimote, otherwise use the Toshiba solution I used in the video :)
Might be easier to pick up a wireless card with Blue tooth in it as well
I tested 2 wii remotes and both are giving me visuals on wiinremote software, that my remote is pointing towards left up corner all the time, even if I'm pointing it in the middle of screen. help
why skull head does not move even though the red box and crosshair are moving in a black box
how did you power the wii sensor? doesnt it have a different connection
Doesn't work at all for windows 10 with the latest update.. Wii controller won't connect. Or it says it's paired, just won't wortk with wiinremote.
I have a windows 10 pc and installed toshiba bluetooth stack successfully but it can't find any devices showing me the error "unable to detect remote device"
I tried reinstalling the stack several times in vain. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
i got 3d spacemouse to control the ship its cool
You use OpenTrack AND FreeTrack together? HUH??!! Unfortunately OpenTrack doesn't support single led tracking, but freetrack does. You can also just use a led light on your head instead of a full wii mote.
Yes because opentrack does not support the wiimote as an IR camera and yes I could use an led light on my head but i didnt have one at the time, I was simply using what I had available to me which was a wiimote and the wii sensor bar.
how do you connect the sensor bar on the pc?
Via bluetooth, like he said
How do i connect the sensor bar to my pc monitor?
Sensor bar is just lights, the real camera is in the remote. You can just plug the sensor bar into the Wii and connect the remote to computer
whats the cover over the one led for?
one led is for pitch and yaw but two is needed for roll. i dont think the program supports roll and it just glitches out
tnx for the guide
im not good with english so a stupid question maybe
the wii bar on top of the monitor where you connect it ?
+aliakas Not a stupid question, I don't think I mentioned it but the Wii bar is connected to the Wii for power. I have to make sure the Wii Remote is connected to the computer before I turn on the Wii otherwise the Remote will connect to the console not computer. Also one last note - cover up one half of the sensor bar otherwise the Wii Remote sees 2 IR "dots" and OpenTrack will be confused.
+The DKWY Project ok tnx for the super fast awnser i ll try it
Any Windows 10 bluetooth stacks available out there?

Hope this helps.
i cant click start in freetrack how is this possible??
I found a fix. All you have to do is double click the wii remote on the Toshiba blue tooth thing and you'll hear a beep from the computer saying its connected. The wii must be off when you do this. After you hear the beep turn on the wii and everything should be working.
hello! Don't know if you will respond but do you think that this still works?
Can confirm it still works in DCS
@@chirpyr6219 Windows 10?
dont understand why my setup wont work i have a 'usb sensor bar' plugged into the back of my pc (dont know if it is working that way or not ) but i can get my wii remote to connect to the pc... head tracking software then goes haywire so cant understand why it doesnt work like your setup ??? please can you help me ??? thanks for your time ..
+G00MBA GAMER Hey mate, I'm assuming Freetrack can detect the Wiimote (will show in the "source" drop down list). If so when you hit start you should be able to see the IR dots show in the black box. It should show only one IR dot, if it shows two you need to block out one half of the Wii sensor bar, I forgot to mention it in the video but you can see I used some blu-tac on one half of the sensor bar. Hope that helps.
thanks for getting back to me so quickly ... well try again and let you know how things get on thanks for your help mate thumbs up ;)
but the start button is grayed out
so how can I use the wiimote
@@thedkwyproject6348 MyFreeTrack wont detect my wii remote I have stack installed and opentracker too what could be my issue
Does it register X/Y/Z co-ords as well?
not Z, you need three point tracking for Z. you could give something like this a go bit.ly/2ekDG4k or you could try making your own (just google for tutorials)
The DKWY Project GOTCHA! I'll make sure to make one of them there 3 point tracking dealies for some of that nice VR experience.
Hello but how to connect sensor bar.Please.
How to connect to pc?
Hey sorry been quite busy - you don't need to connect the sensor bar to your pc it just needs a power source. In this video I used the Wii console to power the sensor bar (just make sure the console is turned on after connecting the Wiimote to your PC). Or you could use one of those wireless battery powered sensor bars (very cheap off ebay).
The sensor bar is just lights that tell the wiimote where it is pointing at, you could just get a couple of IR leds or even a couple of candles, or just used the sensor bar while is connected to the wii.
I mean the sensor bar don't send any info to either to pc or the wii console.
Awesome idea until you realise you can't see the screen when you turn your head.
Thats why you keep your eyes on your screen
bruh u dumb asf did you hear about the sensitivity part? the tracking is more sensetive than real life therefore the most movement you will do to actually see the screen is a little bit of eye movement to the left, right, down, or up.
