- So, this is the first episode of my new series, where we take one of Kpop's standout vocalists, and shine a light on what they do with their voice.
I've been really excited to make this one, and I'm super nervous about it, I hope you guys like it!

i already knew Kyungsoo is an amazing vocalist, but with this video i actually got HOW GOOD of a vocalist he is

I came back here again after I'd listen to his solo-first mini album. These are my experiences with his vocal:
I felt comforting that everything will be okay while listen to "THAT's OKAY" throughout the last 18 months of his enlistment.
I has walked down the memory lane of my father & I with sorrow heart and tearing while I was listening to "DAD"!
I again felt relaxing as he has reassured (with his voice) in "I'M FINE"!
How could these happened to me, I am NOT Korean but he could made me understand the meaning of the songs (I confirmed my understanding with translation after) by his voice along with the music!
I'm actually always afraid that D. O. is gonna leave singing one day for acting, he's so passionate about it, but what are we gonna do without his voice😭
that won't happen. he loves being a singer and actor so let's not assume things and just support his future activities. besides, a producer already spilled that SM and Kyungsoo are looking for tracks for his solo album. i'm holding onto that ever since.

His first passion was singing so it's mostly not gonna happen but a person can also lose their passion when they find another one. D.O is trying his best to balance both but who knows, maybe something's gonna happen along the line.

Don't worry. Kyungsoo look passionate in acting because SM didn't gave him opportunity like other member to singing outside EXO. I still pissed about IOIL and underdog OST.
His god-given voice timbre makes him so unique. His low voice gives me goosebumps. When he sings or acts in his low voice, down to a whisper, and his ability to emote just with his voice, kills me every. single. time. And and, it's got an earworm effect.

I totally agree with your analysis, as an amateurish producer I can see so much potential in his voice. His tone has a quality that not a lot have, he can cut through any mix! His high belts have a heaviness yet it's the bright harmonics all his voice to go well with a lot of instruments, and still have presence. I can't wait to ear his album and what producers could do with his voice.

loved this! Kyungsoo may not be the most technically advanced, fancy, versatile, or the vocalist with the biggest range, but I think we can all agree that his voice has a magical quality that draws us in regardless. his tone and timbre is so frickin' mystical that I could listen to him forever. we love his voice just because it's his voice. still waiting for that solo....
D.O is probably better than 80-90% of kpop vocalists who has wide ranges but strained notes. It's just a matter of who's singing more healthier as they go higher or lower and consistency. D.O really has a dream tone man, that's what i love about him.
I would spend a life listening to him sing r-n-b happily

Do Kyungsoo is just incredible in every sense. He is one of the few vocalists who can make your heart flutter and cause a storm of emotions. He manages his deep voice and sweet timbre with such ease that the same part can sound completely different "starting very roughly and ending unrealistically gently". Kyungsoo's unique voice gives each song a unique charm. I'm ready to listen to his voice as much as I want.! Even when Kyungsoo just speaks, he wants to listen and listen to endlessly, such a pleasant voice.

Thank you. I enjoyed your explanation very much. I don't know anything about techniques musically so technical jargon sounds like alien language to me but you made it so easy to understand and learn from you. On top of that you were not biased at all so I appreciate that. D.O. is my bias and I stan him because of his beautiful voice, great personality and ginormous talent in the field of music and acting. Visual is just icing to the cake. Basically, when I listen to him I don't look for techniques. I listen because his voice is so calm, soothing and velvety. It's heaven to my ears and it's nice to know that technique wise he knows what he is doing. I hope Kyungsoo continues to hone his craft to achieve greatness someday. He is already great as he is and I'm looking forward to more of that lovely voice now that he is out of the military. Great job Sam. More power to your channel ❤

okay lets agree on one thing... his voice is so clear and eventhough i dont understand korean but his pronunciation is so clear.. right? hehe okay i just want to point that out.. for me he is the best.. i just love listening to his voice. WOW! a 40 minute video of my fave.. all the minutes just went by just like that... it was really good! Thank you so much this is what i needed 🤪 anyways, DKS1 IS COMING.. and im so excited.

This is the best thing ever. Love D.O. vocals, it's heaven. There's only 2 voices I cherish in Kpop and he's one of them. Great video you put in a lot of work.
His voice is really beautiful. It's quite nice that each k-pop group has such unique voices among its members, it makes their sound very distinctive.
P.D: Can you please talk about Crush's voice? (he is a K-R&B and hip-hop singer).

Great Video, however, I would also like to state that although Kyungsoo may have trouble sustaining 5th octave notes and occasionally B4s, phrasing these notes with great placement is not an issue for him as it does not look like it takes a lot for him to do so, examples are 2:35 and 2:40 in Its Still a dark Night and his adlibs at the end of their song Peter Pan.

I personally find his voice really interesting
DO is one of my favorite vocalists! He’s so versatile & has really amazing range. I’d love for you to analyze Hyunsik & Eunkwang from BTOB, Kihyun from Monsta X, Chen, Baekhyun, JB from Got7, Hui from Pentagon, Ken from VIXX, there’s others, but these are interesting ones right off the top of my head. When you can though. On your timeline.

(the rose doesn't have very many songs though - i think they have like 20 - because they had an issue with the company not paying them for 3 years and they had to terminate their contract, just really messy and unfortunate stuff)

23:25 I'm not sure if I understood you correctly, but it sounded like you were saying Kyungsoo does the higher C5/D5 belt in the MV but a B-flat4 in live performances? If so, I just wanted to point out that he sings only the B-flat4 in the MV as well & the higher part is sung by Chen both in the MV and live :)
If that's not what you meant, just ignore what I said haha

naul and ailee are prolly slightly better than him altho to me d.o is more fluid than ailee..but sometimes d.o executes sloppy runs..i dont follow naul..but for ailee..her musicality can improve cos she sometimes overdo her runs

Thank you for your analysis with so much depth and passion^^ I love his voice so much as well even I can't believe it I could fall into someone so hard.... My ultimate bias, please give me your solo album already... The only problem, he loves acting career too much as well and he is kind of perfectionist so he can't find enough time to prepare the album then he wouldn't do it...lol.
oh this is a cool idea! it'd be cool if you did this for more established vocalists or some who are already well into their career and leave the younger/newer ones for much later... i think it'd help with spacing and letting enough content to accumulate for you to make an accurate judgement

Took me longer to get to this (because of what's happening in America...) but as usual, another very informative video. ^^ since EXO is one of my major bias groups, I was definitely looking forward to this, and I appreciate your objectivity.
You probably already have some of idea of who you'll talk about next, but I hope one day you'll get around to Taeyeon~ I try to sing her songs for my singing lessons and they're always so challenging, so I'd love to know more about her technique.
I am a tenor and i find it so hard to mix on an F4 and G4, it's weird because you said tenors have it easy mixing on F4 and G4.
But you see that A4 and Bb4 and Eb5 and F5 for me are my go to Notes, love! Love!! Love!!!!, i feel unstoppable on these notes.
Now that my D.O. has been done, I'm gonna do my nails while I wait for the Donghun vocal analysis.....

just bcoz D.O. is a humble person, never shown up, prioritizing his member in singing & rarely speak in front public, people who didn’t know singing technique just degrading his singing capability 💔
I don't know if is important but his speaking voice changed a lot throughout the years, like I see the performance at 29:25 (and his tell me what is love solo) a lot in compilations and his voice was very different when talking back there

I was wondering has his voice changed since he was younger. Also recently he sang Baekhyun's part on Love shot/2023 and a small segment of "UN village", it was uncanny how similar they were.
