Okay so i suck at statistics but luckily we are dealing with small amount of combinations. On the (R)ight side we have 3 options, and also on the (L)eft side we got 3 options. Lets begin counting from (R): 3 options and each one of them can be combined with 3 opposite (L) options. So from this perspective we got 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 options. And now, the other way around is also possible. When counting from (L), we got again 3 options that each have 3 options on the opposite site (R). Also 9. So in total we got 9 + 9 = 18 adjustment combinations possible. (correct me if wrong)
Hi ZReviews I am looking to get a new set of headphones and i found your channel a while ago looking for reviews. i am stuck between the Sennheiser 660s - beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO x - Audeze Maxwell.for both music and gaming.i want a set that is good for listening to music and gaming. if it was you which set would you choose over all. thank you in advance.have a safe trip .
What a surprise that you like these ? Do you actually dislike anything as I've only seen you dislike one thing in year's or is It just the affiliate sale's you want ?
@@thesuk1222 Watch someone else as he like's everything & doe's not do proper review's I mean who like's everything never to much boom or to much high's everything's just BUY IT !
The reason they used the name “Maxwell” was based off a Mathematician who specialized in electro and magnetic fields. So with that said, the name couldn’t be more perfect for this headset.
Small correction: the switchable AI noise cancelling is for the MIC ONLY. It does a fantastic job removing the background noise in your environment when you talk to your chat partners / co-workers etc. but it is not meant to perform "classical" noise cancelling of whatever you are hearing. Otherwise I fully agree with the review! They are a bit on the heavy side but still comfortable and sound fantastic via USB and via (LDAC) bluetooth. I love them for music and I have dozens of other "audiophile" headphones, DACs and amps here to choose from.
Damn. I couldn't tell if it was trying to do ANC because my house is basically dead quiet most times. I guess that is fine.. Seems weird to have 2 levels of ANC on a mic input.
More corrections: it's not made of metal it's plastic. It's just VERY nice plastic. I also thought it was all metal when I pulled it out of the box. Also side tone isn't really meant for hearing background noise. It's for piping your own mic voice into your headphones so you can hear yourself talk in a more natural way and don't end up yelling into your mic instinctively since they're closed back. Without the boom mic plugged in the unit uses the built in mics which do pickup more background noise incidentally.
Due note, using an amp could damage the driver, as audeze made it where it already has one built in. If you plug in an external amp, it is highly likely to cause a double feed, causing straining of the highs, and fuzzying of the lows. This is only what I've heard though, since I'm still waiting on mine shipping in September.
@@Tadrax I have my unit, but haven't been able to get to the friend with the dac yet. I will try to update this later to try it. I can say it does have issues with the LDAC Bluetooth making music pulse choppily through my S22 Ultra's spotify at least. That might be something to look into as a potential issue for now that I've found.
Got one correction for everyone: These are not ANC headphones. The noise canceling feature is for the mic only. Which I absolutely love, because not one person will ever complain ever again that they can't hear me. I know I'm not supposed to wear these while driving, but I tested this in my Miata with the top down, and people couldn't even hear background noise. And the Miata has MASSIVE background noise. I have NEVER been able to talk to anyone while driving that car on ANY system! So I'm impressed.
@@spamcan9208 It doesn't handle nearby people talking at reasonable levels. I use mine at the office and it doesn't tune nearby workers having meetings out that well. It's still fine with music playing, though.
I've been happily gaming on my Sennheiser HD6xx and Dan Clark Aeon X opens for years. This is the first time I've been tempted to buy more headphones in a long, long time. Good review, thanks Z.
I also Have the HD6xx and Aeon X open. I daily drove the Aeon X Opens and I absolutely love them, but I honestly haven't used them since I got my Maxwells. The convenience of just getting up to go to the kitchen for a coffee refill and not missing anything is insane. Yes the Aeon X Open sound better if I do a AB test. But the Maxwell's sound so good I don't care.
How's your experience so far? Is it any better than vanilla JS? I heard about many QA problems with Audeze products, people also say planar drivers are fragile and u can hear crackling and other weird noises after a couple months of usage.
If you are connected via USB, the headset will also accept a bluetooth input at the same time as well. Both inputs will play at once. Found this quite helpful at work, gamers might dig the feature as well.
So these have the best mic for the fan noise... Imagine if the WH-1000XM6 future headphone had this good of a mic... Does this company make the mic standalone? I've never heard of this company until Sony picked them up. 😂🤣 I love Zeos side rants on his other channel that for the life of me I never go to this channel that I don't watch the main one. 🤷♀
@@michaelcarson8375not to my knowledge, Audeze is great tho, they have been making audiophile grade headphones for years at different priceoints, from stuff like the LCD-X to the new studio oriented MM-500 and flagships like LCD-5, also I think Audeze is still going to be making their full range of audiophile headphones themselves and I think Sony only picked up their gaming headset side of things since their Maxwell headphones have been very successful since they launched
Got these a few days ago. I know very little about audio, but have had a couple expensive (to me) headphones in the past and never really found what 'audiphiles' were hearing or feeling to make this a hobby to own or try so many pairs at different price points. But have to say using these, i am now starting to get it. Theres so much happening when i wear these tha as an amateur i cant put into words, but being to pick the individual instruments out of the music and even 'feel' the finger strumming the guitar or the reflection of the the piano key de-pressing, among so mucch other stuff. It's a wild sensation and yeah i get it now, its the push to get those feeling or sensations even more or delivered a different way.
Lol got my first setup a year or two ago. And yeah, there is absolutely a difference. Once you find a set of cans that you love, you will never be the same, other things will sound dull in comparison.
I’ve had these for about a week now. Amazing. I love them. I have a pair of XM4s that I use for travel because I don’t want to risk anything happening to the Maxwells. I can easily do 2 hour music listening sessions with the Maxwells. Got them used for $250 too - the Xbox version. I lucked out. Would have paid full price if needed. I’ve been looking around and both versions are not too easy to find. I’m extremely happy with these cans.
Are they really heavy as claimed? i mean, it's for home usage, sure, when you sitting in chair and listening this magic fuckery in your ears, but are they comfy enough to not make yor neck hurt?
@@SereBronx late reply, I know. Hope this is still on your mind. Yeah, I’ve used them for 3+ hours listening to music without much physical stress both on the ears or neck or even pressure on the head due to clamping. I use them for listening sessions during work too. I’ve played 4-5 hour long weekend gaming sessions without much bother as well. It all depends on your overall tolerance. While I wish they were a bit lighter and they are a bit heavy, I would still recommend them. I think it might be a psychological game I play with myself because I know they’re worth it. I overlook that weight aspect because I really do enjoy the quality and sometimes we do have to sacrifice a bit of comfort for quality. It’s hard to put so many good things in one package and not make it a little bit heavy. I am very nitpicky with anything I buy that I believe should be of great quality. These cans are worth every penny, in my humble opinion. The worst that can happen is that you don’t like them, you choose to return them and you get something else. Give them a try. I think you’ll be impressed. It’s the “don’t knock it ‘till you try it” deal. Hope this helps a bit. I’d love to hear about your experience if you do choose to get them.
@@weareonee It would depend on your use case. The XM3s are great and if you’re looking just to game and something to get the job done without having to spend extra money, they will do just fine. The Maxwells are definitely a step above. They have more detailed sound, which also makes them my go-to for music. If you get another mic, that is one more device to hook up, whereas the Maxwell comes with it built in and the environment noise cancellation when you speak, does a splendid job.
I just ordered myself a pair last week. I've been using a phillips shp9500 w/ a modmic since seeing your video like 6 years ago on them. I've tried upgrading but i always end up returning the product because they punch so far out of their class compared to branded gaming headphones. I'm truly tired of wires and this seemed like a worthy upgrade.
Thanks for sharing your eq! I finally got a pair and didn't get what people were talking about with the sound, they sounded good but I wasn't blown away until I tried your eq.
I must be crazy, but where did you find them? I have been searching for his settings, as I just got a pair today, but can't seem to track them down. Thanks in advance if you can point me in the right direction!
@@mattdotson5963 That's because Z Reviews only said it in this video 🙂 On Preset 1 it's: 10, 3, -2, 0, 1, 2, 1, -2, -3, -2. Someone in the comments has set 8 instead 10 as the first band, because of bass clipping in some songs. Still waiting for my pair to arrive, so can't confirm yet.
This is the review I have been looking for. All I got was a bunch of gamers talking about the mic for the whole video. No body has covered the topics you just did. Thank you.
from only using standard gaming headsets in the past, i love the eq preset, the bass is intoxicating, some songs make the bass clip so ive had to turn the bass down to 8 but its still the best ive ever experienced....ever.
I run these (amongst other methods) via LDAC on my Samsung S20FE. I've found that running the personalised audio works well (as usual), but they are the only headset I've used that benefit from turning on Dolby Atmos for Music too. Probably not audiophile behaviour, but it really livens up the sound.
My sidetone is super static sounding. Audeze told me it's a known issue they are trying to fix through software in the future. They fixed the ldac stutter using custom eq in a recent firmware update so hoping they can fix this.
I replaced my usual usage of my edition xs in a balanced schiit stack with the Maxwell. They're so fricken good and just a jack of all trades for convenience
How does the soundstage and imaging compare to the XS - is there a huge difference with the XS being much wider ? I was planning to get the XS with a topping DX3 Pro plus for nighttime movie watching & Blu-rays on my Xbox but now I’m tempted by these for the convenience as well as being able to use them as regular headphones with my phone for music.
Ok I'll buy these since I'm still waiting for Magnapans. I really liked your review. Needing a good wireless headedet anyway. And I wouldn't mind getting them before Sony cheaps out in mass production.
I recently brought this headphone, because all the positive reviews, but within a day, the planar drivers wrinkled. Apparently the pressure between these super thin drivers and your head, could wrinkle it overtime. This issue is common on Reddit. I decided to return these to avoid having to deal with this problem again after warrantying. Also after the wrinkle, low frequencies sound bad, as if you maxed out the bass on a car, and you hear metal shaking.
If you mistreat any planar, especially closed back, you can damage the driver. The air pressure stretches the membrane. Odd that it is happening more then rarely however. I will keep an ear out.
Yeah I've had mine since they were initially released and I've had no issues, I also swapped pads, but after recommending them to someone else theirs wrinkled within a month (one side much worse than the other). No mistreatment, just randomly happened (their head is on the smaller side vs mine is on the maximum length)
I think the Maxwell is better built and more simple, but the Mobius with the 3D Head Tracking is unbelievable! Many of the same controls and EQ settings were borrowed from the Mobius and are used on the Maxwell. I tried them at CanJam and I liked them. It would be great to see Sony resurrect the Mobius and improve it with similar build quality as the Maxwell. It'd be heavy and expensive, though. It's exciting to wonder how Sony's headphones will evolve with Audeze on the team now.
Audeze had mentioned when they announced the Maxwell that they were interested in overhauling the Mobius in a similar manner, including carrying over the WavesNX 3D Audio solution, but it was still under consideration and no one should expect it before years end I'd wager.
unless Sony buys WavesNX, it's probably not going to add their Pulse 3D HRTF with gyro tracking. While it's feasible to get 3D without the need for spatial tracking ie gyroscopes in the headset or in the controller, the next part is calibration and use / enabling. It probably won't be "opened up" by games or apps, because of the PSVR2. But, HRTF is tricky because of the licensing. Opening up "3D" audio on a dongle, is another challenge. It is possible, if the game works with the gyro tracking in the PS5 dualsense controller. Which is what's built into airpods pro with apple spatial audio. But, spatial gyro is also built into the PSVR2 in some ways too. Eh.
Gen X here heck yeah I remember 90s arcades, 80s arcades too! Aladdin’s Castle, Circus Pizza FTW Awesome, entertaining review. You’re like if Jack Black reviewed tech. I just ordered a PS5 version of the Maxwell and I’m super excited!
@ I like them a lot. The battery life is crazy and I haven’t had any issues using the headset. I got a set of ear cushions from wicked cushions but I’d do that to any headset. They’re app works fine to adjust the eq settings and they sound very well on ear. My only concern was the weight of the headphones but it’s really not bad, the leather strap is comfortable to me.
Picked these up and haven't looked back! Swapped the ear cups and got rid of the headband for something else but they sound amazing! Listened to Apple Music Dolby Atmos tracks and heard things in songs I've never heard before. This was on my XSX as well. Great Review and thank you! Def helped in my decision!!!
If aynone has issues with fit, where your ears touch the drivers - Wicked Cushions make pads that are slightly bigger, so with some EQ tuning, I got mine to sound and fit so good, I don't want to touch my BO 95H anymore. Even wearing them for 6+ hours isn't an issue. The only reason these aren't my only cans in use, is the heat in the summer, nothing beats an open Senheiser there, but I doubt I'll use anything else when the temperature goes lower, they're just that good imo.
@@Pandemonium088 Yeah, I can see that the added weight would be an issue, Maxwell is hefty on it's own already. Would be interesting if Audeze made a Maxwell "Lite", with lower battery life, but less weight... Thankfully for my usecase of sitting at my desk and only occasionally walking around the house to get a coffee, I don't mind. Headphones (like anything wearable) is a personal thing, no one size fits all, so a skin irritation can happen. Hopefully some other company picks up the slack and introduces a different material cup. Maybe even Audeze them selves?
Dammit. I hate European prices when it comes to electronics. Whether it's subs, amps, or in this case headphones... Everything is priced almost 50% higher over here. These cost €399 where I live (about 430 US dollars).
I don't know what your channel is about or what any of the stuff you talk about means 😂 but i just stumbled upon this video and I think I just found a new hobby ahahah. You have a interesting way of expressing yourself. I like it. Guess im an "audiophile" now? Lol. Just subscribed 👍
Regarding the output mixing... for different mixing/changing outputs (and inputs) I, and all my friends who use VR, just use Voicemeter to manage all the channels. Also use it for my VST plugins on my mic. Since we often run multiple devices and multiple sound sources at the same time Voicemeter works great, granted, Im no audiophile so I'm sure someone in the comments will jump in to say exactly how I'm wrong :D
Also If you're curious what I have for gaming/music... Beyerdynamic 990 pro 250ohm, which subsequently I run on my Xduoo MT-602 tubes which I bought thanks to Zeos and love :)
Thanks for your honest coverage. They aren't ANC, just utilizing AI from the Audeze FILTER(their speaker with AI noise cancelling) is built into the Maxwell. The Shure created C17 stick mic is naturally a bit on the lower side(like most Shure mics) where you don't get as good of mic capture if you don't have the headset plugged into USB to boost extra power from the USB 3.0 connection. 25 minutes is 20 hours of charge. All of the 5 I've tested so far have averaged at least 86 hours of battery life with 2 exceeding 90 hours in segregated momentary use. There are 5 internal beamforming mics, of which you have the port filter including a cluster of 3 directional and 2 omnidirectional on the side of can ports. The FILTER AI noise cancelling works with the C17 stick mic and stand alone internal mics without. Only thing is without the C17 stick mic, using the beamforming mics internally, it is a heavier suppression(around 5 to 7% in my testing) from random sounds intermittently, to constant sounds ranging slightly higher at around 4 to 6% suppression but also adding compression). Bluetooth 5.3 utilizing the LC3+ codec has a tendency to naturally be lower latency(under 11 to 7ms avg) but using the loudness option in settings to be less loud(checked) will decrease latency, but unchecking will cause an avg 15db hike in audio at the loudest volume setting where it was a slightly higher delay latency. I mostly use them for broadcast, and bluetooth to my TV for undisturbed enjoyment where I work a different schedule than rest of the people in the house. I hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to seeing if Audeze has designed a new fazor driver for the Sony Pulse Elite, or if it will just be a modification of the Maxwell or M-100 90mm current use at that revealed $150 price point, it will be an interesting go for sure, but just not a fan of most Sony Playstation headset mics where it's slide away integrated capsule. The next option that Audeze should invest in is USB type C connection full cardioid capsule mic to be the most complete headset for all use at this under $400 price point. The Sony Pulse Elite is probably going to utilize the PS Link to reduce latency even further(possibly below 3ms) for a lightning fast connection and lowest latency. Perhaps Sony will permit Audeze to integrate that tech patent into their non Sony licensed standalone separate audiofile and other platform use products. Time will tell I guess.
I'd really like the Audeze with Lucidsound comfort and controls. I'm profoundly impressed with the Maxwell, but the control scheme on Lucidsound headsets is absolutely amazing for gaming.
sidetone is for those that came from phones in the wall. The feedback to hear your voice while you talk. Its a feature useful for. While I like the idea for the holes on the right cup, I 100% believe they are battery vent holes.
Mine lasted 4 months before lost audio in the left ear. Super common issue with these. Dropped it off this morning for replacement. They sound so good I almost considered getting a second pair with a 3yr warranty at microcenter. I dont have audio gear like Z man here but i do have a schiit stack along with HD58x, Fidelio X2, Audio technica, DT990 pro 250ohm etc etc and the Maxwell's blow every one of those out of the water.
Cant wait to use them. My Audeze Penrose broke after nearly 2 year (not my fault, and got covered under Warranty), and because they dont have stock and cant repair them i can upgrade them to Maxwell P's for just 100 € more. Good to hear about the increased connection range, and the build material (Penrose was Plastic).
I would LOVE…. I repeat, I would LOVE to watch you review the Turttle Beach Stealth Pro headset and the compare it to the Maxwell. Can you make this happen?
I'm surprised you never heard of side tone. It actually makes up for the headset physically blocking you from hearing your own voice. I'm not a gamer but I use it all the time because it's more natural. When we speak, we hear ourselves both internally and externally.
It's probably because different companies use different terms. Headset mics are usually used for ANC, so they have an integrated mixer to add ambient or microphone audio to the Audio mix. Sidetone, comes from the dual mixer used in consoles where you have a controller headset and a TV/soundbar audio channel. When you add a proper headset, now you have 2 different devices in the same headset. Some refer to it as transparency or ambient sound, passthrough et al. Usually because headphones have ANC, they have active microphones, which changes the words used. FWIU It's side tone because the headset has a voice and Game mix that Bluetooth doesn't really handle, so while the headphones do have an active mic, the sidetone is from the voice mixer, not the ANC. Which is the same microphone, but it's not the same audio source.
Guilty: I am the gamer that landed on this page. After at least (true story) 20 different reviews to see if I should wait and get the Maxwell or go to a Steelseries wireless (honestly it was driving me crazy, impossible to make a choice), I landed on this page. MAN wtf is this review it was awesome! I even laughed!! I love your straight talk, your approach of the headest, best review I've seen so far I am litteraly lmao. I'll check your other videos even though I don't know sh*t about audiophile headsets because it was just amazingly done. CHAPEAU !
Most entertaining review I've seen in a while. 😂Thought Louis CK was doing the review a few times. Also totally agree with everything you said about the Maxwell. And thanks for the laughs.
Bought the mx4s based on your recommendation, and you were spot on. Bought the Maxwell based on your recommendation. I’m sure they will be amazing. Very excited.
I have the penrose. Hands down, the best sounding headset I've ever owned, for music. you hear everything, every little sound. As far as gaming, and FPS shooting, i still prefer the original Asto a50
I have the Penrose and the Maxwell and honestly the Penrose probably sounds a little better, but honestly they feel like they are made by 2 separate companies... The maxwell has an 80 hour battery life and honestly it's exceeded that considerably considering I've only charge it twice since I got it a month and half ago. While the Penrose feels made of cheap plastic, the maxwell is made of mostly metal, and the Penrose drops if you get like 10ft from the receiver. The maxwell on the other hand stays connected in every room on every floor of my house. It only cuts out standing next to microwave when it's running and even then I can mostly still hear what's going on and that's almost 35ft from my PC. If you do decide to buy another headset, trust me when I tell you its of considerably higher quality. The earpads are a touch shallow though like they said. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it's something to get used to for sure.
Nice review, we could have get more details about how comfortable considering its weight is 500g and you always place emphasis on comfort. The mic test was weird ! why we had to listen to a mic test playing through your phone speaker ? why not straight from the mic in the video ?
I would LOVE…. I repeat, I would LOVE to watch you review the Turttle Beach Stealth Pro headset and the compare it to the Maxwell. Can you make this happen? Pleeeaaaassseeeeeee!!!!
Love the vid, I love my maxwells, but please tell me what eq setting will turn up the base? Also I’d like to add sometimes I use Dolby access and it sounds amazing in games
Just keep in mind there is a ton of reports of people’s drivers dying or losing a lot of volume from pressure building up in the cups and manipulating the driver which is causing a crinkling sound in one or both drivers.
A "ton" may be an over exaggeration. I have seen people commenting on this on the Audeze subreddit, but keep in mind that is probably a sub fraction to the total amount of these units sold. I got mine on some of the first releases at the beginning of March and haven't experienced a single issue. All manufacturers have an accepted and expected failure rate, and I'm not sure the vocal minority on reddit is cause for any major concern.
@@Steamin14 I have seen such an amount of complaints about QC issues about Maxwell that I haven't seen in 5 years I've been interested in -phones, scraping multiple forums daily like a goddamn addict, including Chi-Fi brands. Of course, those with no issues are mostly silent, as usual. But how much these have supposedly sold to have such a big unlucky minority?
@@juanblanco7898 I have no idea the statistics, but they are still one of the top recommended headphones and I am sure they have sold a massive amount. I still have mine and love them. Going on 1.5 years and I have had zero issues.
How do these headphones compare to the MMX 300 Gen 2 or H6 Pro Closed back? I have these two headsets and I’m wondering if the Maxwell will offer any improvements in performance over the headsets I already own.
seems like good timing I've been looking for a closed back headphone. I love my Sundara's but they don't mute the people around me and everyone around me hears clearly what I'm listening to.
As others have stated, they are named after a mathematician. The reason for this is because the previous two gaming headsets they have made before the Maxwell were named after mathematicians as well.
The headband solution is not working at all for me sadly. I am like in between two sizes and it feels very heavy after 2 hours of gaming. Had also tons of connection problems with bluetooth and some random static noise on the 2.4 dongle while gaming. While its sound is the best I ever experienced in a gaming headset I just couldn't keep it and the huntt is still on for the perfect wireless pair!
Yea you sold them for me bud to be homest the specs are enough for me to be like I want these!!!! Great video man been a follower for years not subscriber but watching 😎😁👍 well at first I wasn't iv been subbed for while now 😎🎧🔊🎶
In a word, yes. The 300s are great, but they are anemic when compared to the Maxwell and require EQing to fall into place. I love Beyerdynamics, but it isn’t even close in my opinion.
@@Silverjerk How do the Maxwell's stack up against the DT770(250ohm)'s using a DAC? I'm tempted to take the plunge, but i'm not willing to sacrifice sound quality.
@@NintenPizza you wouldn’t be giving up anything. Remember, this is Audeze. The same company that makes the LCD-X, MM-500, LCD-2C and LCD-5. They know how to build a planar headphone. I own and love my DT770s and 1990s; they’re great for tracking and mixing. But the Maxwells are not only great gaming headphones, they are objectively competent for critical and casual listening and general media consumption; and I’d argue they’re the best entry into planars, more so than HiFiMan’s lower-end models. To be fair, I only run the DT770s for checking my mixes for sibilance. I rarely use them for casual listening anymore. If I do, I’ll almost always run them with EQ, like Oratory’s presets or some of the EQs I’ve made over the years. The Maxwell, however, is fantastic right out of the box. The default preset is fairly neutral, so you may want to tweak it like I did, but you’re definitely not giving up anything with the Maxwell and I’d argue you may prefer them. The “gaming” label is marketing; don’t be dissuaded by that point. Audeze basically made a phenomenal midfi level wireless planar with a decent microphone and great built in DSP controls.
Hey, here's a note for you with a little correction. "Sidetone" is tone fed back from the microphone into the headphones. It's intended to let you hear your own voice when talking. Your phone has a little side tone in it, for example. It's just feedback so that you know your voice is being picked up. If you can't hear your voice, you're not in a call, right? Sidetone (when used) tells you if your microphone is picking anything up. Sidetone has nothing to do with *what* it picks up, but ideally, your headset microphone only picks up your voice and rejects all ambient noise. That noise rejection is a function of other features, however, such as the mic's polar pickup pattern, noise gates, ANC, and so on. Sidetone just gives you a sneak peek of what the microphone is picking up, so it's up to the microphone to do the filtering. You're not wrong to compare it to the "aware"/"passthrough" modes that some headphones come with, but that is a little different than sidetone in terms of focus. Both are picking up sounds around you and feeding it back into your ears, but sidetone is focused on your microphone, while these modes are focused on everything. (Technically speaking, it's still "sidetone", right? It's just that the passthrough microphones are pointing everywhere, while the microphone you'll think of when talking about sidetone is the little black dick in your face.) Nice review style, by the way. You're a blast to listen to, haha.
Oh, and it's not really a gamer term... it's more just a communications thing. If you're used to reviewing headphones and microphones separately, you've never run into "sidetone". Instead, you've probably heard it as monitoring, I'm guessing.
I'll also note: I've heard that the Audeze Maxwell turned the sidetone up quite a bit for people wanting more sidetone, but as a result, the internal mics pick up a little of that noise provided by the overly-sensitive sidetone and go into a feedback loop, causing some hum noise if it's turned up too high. I'm sure you can adjust it yourself to a more palatable level to eliminate that, but I've heard they fixed this hum in a firmware update which you can apply through the app. (Have to update both the headset and dongle, one at a time.)
Both my original Audeze Mobius and its warranty replacement develop faults. They werent dropped, bumped or looked at strangely. The originals headband snapped at the earcup rotation point, the warranty repalcements right channel would intermittentlhy cut out, a reset bought it back once, the next time it wouldnt reset and it was out of warranty. Both faults felt like if they were due to poor build quality.
When you testing the new Sony MDR-MV1's? They are god tier. Especially for gaming due to its 360 sound tuning. Gaming with them is 1:1 accurate. Where you hear an enemy, and you expect them to be standing/moving, is exactly where they are. Like playing airsoft/paintball in real life. Its insane. And for music, still sounds amazing. Best Sonys ever in my opinion. Granted, never owned the z1r.... had the z7m2 and the MV1 are better.
They are good and they work great, which is the most important thing, but they don’t compare in sound quality to my Hifiman Ananda BT, which blows them out of the water.

The reason they used the name “Maxwell” was based off a Mathematician who specialized in electro and magnetic fields. So with that said, the name couldn’t be more perfect for this headset.
I wanted to point this out as well, but I see it was already addressed.
@@KKBeee 😎
Oh, he must be the Maxwell of Maxwell's equations. That's probably how the Maxwell company that made tape got its name.
Mathematician? Wut?
@@dmitriydudarev2649 Yup. As a matter of fact, Audeze has named their previous headsets off Mathematician names as well. (Mobius & Penrose)
Correct me harder! @@Farengast
How would it compare to the Hifiman HE-R9 modded by JM or the stock version if you've heard them or can kinda opine.
Thanks. ✌🏼
Even more correction:
Nothing
Due note, using an amp could damage the driver, as audeze made it where it already has one built in. If you plug in an external amp, it is highly likely to cause a double feed, causing straining of the highs, and fuzzying of the lows. This is only what I've heard though, since I'm still waiting on mine shipping in September.
PLEASE up this comment! Do not use amps on the Maxwell's!!!
Did you get your unit, and did you test it with a dac?

So I'm impressed.
lol that's one way to test a headset. If it can handle a convertible, it should be able to handle anything in your house

(I haven't finished the video yet, maybe it comes up. Forgive me if so)
Is it possible to use it via 2.4Ghz and Bluetooth as well? Or just USB and Bluetooth?
Just Wired USB and Bluetooth unfortunately.
It comes with a USB C to C cable so you can use it on the phone, it's perfect
I use these as my work headset at a data center. Never found a mic that takes out the whir of thousands of servers as good as the Maxwells
So these have the best mic for the fan noise... Imagine if the WH-1000XM6 future headphone had this good of a mic... Does this company make the mic standalone?
@@SereBronx 500grams are pretty heavy, I would say test it urself first. most gamin headset these days are only like 200-250g
I have the xm3s and debating if I should buy a $20 boom mic and calling it a day for gaming or if I should buy the maxwell
I've tried upgrading but i always end up returning the product because they punch so far out of their class compared to branded gaming headphones. came back to say thank you for this video. this has been one of the major reason for me to get the Maxwell and I can say I can never be happier.
This is the review I have been looking for. All I got was a bunch of gamers talking about the mic for the whole video. No body has covered the topics you just did. Thank you.
I love these, the only problem were earpads which are too shallow. Solved with Wicked cushions.
from only using standard gaming headsets in the past, i love the eq preset, the bass is intoxicating, some songs make the bass clip so ive had to turn the bass down to 8 but its still the best ive ever experienced....ever.
Glad I came across this video, I just ordered them immediately and I am super excited.
@@ZReviewsat 06:20 in your video, I can see driver wrinkling on the upper left section of the planar 😮
Returned mine too for this common flaw
Have they fixed this?
Eh.
Don’t plug Maxwell into an amp… it’s got its own amps…
Gen X here heck yeah I remember 90s arcades, 80s arcades too! Aladdin’s Castle, Circus Pizza FTW
Awesome, entertaining review. You’re like if Jack Black reviewed tech. I just ordered a PS5 version of the Maxwell and I’m super excited!
These are on the way in the mail right now and I’m excited to try em’ out
What did you think?
@ I like them a lot. The battery life is crazy and I haven’t had any issues using the headset. I got a set of ear cushions from wicked cushions but I’d do that to any headset. They’re app works fine to adjust the eq settings and they sound very well on ear. My only concern was the weight of the headphones but it’s really not bad, the leather strap is comfortable to me.
Now we just wait for the violet version
Picked these up and haven't looked back! Swapped the ear cups and got rid of the headband for something else but they sound amazing! Listened to Apple Music Dolby Atmos tracks and heard things in songs I've never heard before. This was on my XSX as well. Great Review and thank you! Def helped in my decision!!!
Can you share links to the changes you made? I have been struggling to make it more comfortable for my head for longer sessions.
amazing that he links to projekt melody in the description
If aynone has issues with fit, where your ears touch the drivers - Wicked Cushions make pads that are slightly bigger, so with some EQ tuning, I got mine to sound and fit so good, I don't want to touch my BO 95H anymore.
Even wearing them for 6+ hours isn't an issue.
The only reason these aren't my only cans in use, is the heat in the summer, nothing beats an open Senheiser there, but I doubt I'll use anything else when the temperature goes lower, they're just that good imo.
They dont work well for me, the amount of clamping force and weight they add makes it so uncomfortable.
The fabric used also makes my skin itch.
Beacn Mix Create is what you're after if you want to hardware mix loads of source volumes like that headphone.

How is nobody talking about how fun this review is 😂
Mine lasted 4 months before lost audio in the left ear.
Yeah, but every 4th month you have to change them.
Just hearing the price.

I love your other channel, but THIS is the video that gets me to finally sub to your main channel. I wonder if bigG lets me post this..

25:20 .. i think these holes are actually mircorfones that record the surrounding for the cancelation of background noise.
Nice review, we could have get more details about how comfortable considering its weight is 500g and you always place emphasis on comfort.

How do these headphones compare to the MMX 300 Gen 2 or H6 Pro Closed back? I have these two headsets and I’m wondering if the Maxwell will offer any improvements in performance over the headsets I already own.
Sold! 1x Audeze Maxwell on the way, LOL. Had my eye on this a while and just looked up the price on a top end Steel Series and Turtle Beach.
And they do not disappoint :D - Although the Sony gaming division purchase of Audeze is.... interesting.
@@DavidHorthThey want a piece of this GOOD SHEET
Meze Liric best closed back planar that is actually portable. But needs an amp obviously. LCDXC is dank too. But I'd never wear it in public.
No one asked
I can’t just plug the Liric into my iPhone and enjoy? @Burnttoast you’re rude.

awesome content dude
Hope Sony will solve the static sound issue when side tone is used even slightly.
just subscribed to all of your channels zeoz !!!
seems like good timing I've been looking for a closed back headphone. I love my Sundara's but they don't mute the people around me and everyone around me hears clearly what I'm listening to.
Funny, informative and just Hilarious. Very fresh perspective, thank you!
As others have stated, they are named after a mathematician. The reason for this is because the previous two gaming headsets they have made before the Maxwell were named after mathematicians as well.
im tempted, but got so burnt on audezee with the mobius, bad support and build quality was shit. actualy got into 3d printing because of them.
I would think those holes on the right earcup are to safely vent the battery if it was to fail and explode
I just bought one, 2 day shipping. Coming from a h6 pro, I wonder how it’ll be
You’re hilarious…and these headphones were so good I bought 2 pair
The headband solution is not working at all for me sadly. I am like in between two sizes and it feels very heavy after 2 hours of gaming. Had also tons of connection problems with bluetooth and some random static noise on the 2.4 dongle while gaming. While its sound is the best I ever experienced in a gaming headset I just couldn't keep it and the huntt is still on for the perfect wireless pair!
Been waiting for this review!
I can’t help but wonder about Bathys…how do they compare. I find these crazy intriguing.
Very based. Normies might yet be saved with their wireless pleb headphones.
ur sign went next level 😂
Dont forget the dolby atmos licence and simultaneous connection between multiple devices
I just bought them and subscribed simultaneously
Added to wish list thanks for the recommendation
Thanks Z this EQ slaps my ears! :D
Yea you sold them for me bud to be homest the specs are enough for me to be like I want these!!!! Great video man been a follower for years not subscriber but watching 😎😁👍 well at first I wasn't iv been subbed for while now 😎🎧🔊🎶
Are these better than the Beyerdyamic mmx 300s? If so, I know my next purchase.
In a word, yes. The 300s are great, but they are anemic when compared to the Maxwell and require EQing to fall into place. I love Beyerdynamics, but it isn’t even close in my opinion.

How do the Maxwell's stack up against the DT770(250ohm)'s using a DAC?
They are freakin heavy but mic and headset sounds great.
amazin review and tutorial of the headset
Got mine six or so weeks ago... these indeed.
11:24 that Minecraft sound tho
This is so good it is madness for 300. And the video is pretty good too 😉
Typically sidetone is fed back into the speakers from the mic, not so much a transparency thing.
It's just that the passthrough microphones are pointing everywhere, while the microphone you'll think of when talking about sidetone is the little black dick in your face.)
Nice review style, by the way.
The moment you said l"istening to 70s music and drinking whisky" haha, I subscribed.
I didn't like the Mobius. But this is now 3 whole models and like 5 years later. So I think they got their act together.
Mobius was literally dog shit. Returned them same day
When you testing the new Sony MDR-MV1's?
The battery life is insane like you said, so it’s functionality and it just works over sound quality, which isn’t bad on Maxwell, it’s just adequate, not great or amazing
How would these compare to the Hifiman HE-R9 modded by JM or the stock version? Thanks.
Z really brought it back to Ventrillo 🤣☠️ feeling old
Getting my PlayStation news and Zeos review in one video was definitely not in my bingo card lol
