this cover is SO underrated. i first discovered it years ago, and every now and then i remember it and have to come back to give it a listen. you are all absurdly talented💛💛💛
Goodness me. This wonderful old song will never be the same again. I'm lost for superlatives to describe the inspired arrangement and heartwrenching beauty of the singing. I've sung tenor in a simple arrangement of this song with a small choir, but nothing, absolutely NOTHING, prepared me for the impact that this Voces8 performance would have on me. I'll just go and sit quietly somewhere and recover.. 🙂.
Goosebumps! This song is incredibly difficult to get in tune. Stunning. I love the way this arrangement is shaped. It really shows off the talent of the bass and tenor. So smooth. So easy! Well done!
Christmas at Prairie was for me the Brass Choir, the Ambassador Choir and the full choir and orchestra performing A Handel price like Glory in the Highest!! Especially the Hallelujah Chorus!!🎉 happy Christmas greetings to all our friends around the globe spreading the good news, a Child has been born to us God with us!!
Thanks for your comment. The reason this video has come up again is because this upload is on the group’s VEVO channel, which is different to the RUclips channel. The reason it is appearing here is because we have now made our videos available across all digital platforms so that, for example, Apple Music subscribers can view them on the iTunes platform too. We hope this will increase the amount of viewers who are able to enjoy them.
There's just that one lampshade with its seam facing the camera. That's the only thing wrong here. We love the way Jonathan's restrained, mellow solo, complete with hand gestures, sets up the edgy, nicely brittle tenor. The alto entry sounds comical on first hearing, but grows on one. I'm thinking Swingle Singers with a makeover. A thoughtful and rewarding performance.
The lamp shade seam seems mighty out of place. A prop placed to gasp at it's differentiation only to succumb to it's final breath because that's where silence suits us best. Here's to all the wrong lampshade seams that face away from nature's wings and shine a light on what is right. I can only hear quite and no silence in sight.
you came here to say something like that? You must be a very sad individual. Apart from it no being true, these two are not even comparable. Voctave is very American group with an American sound, while Voces8 is classic European choir music stylewise. No idea how someone would feel the need to come here and say something nasty for the sake of it
So, are the louder harmonies and muted bass intentional? I cannot say for certain, but I can imagine that the arranger, Mr. L'Estrange, intended this. Consider the opening lines, especially, phrases like "left its seeds while I was sleeping," or "a vision softly creeping" .... The hushed tones of the bass perfectly echo the sentiments and import of the song. Indeed, you have a world-class ensemble, with top notch audio engineers and first-class equipment; highly unlikely they got the mix wrong.

Loved the church choir sound to this song. It has been my favorite for year and this cover holds up to the original
This was one of my pandemic jams. Just came back to this and realized there's not even more than 200 views and 60 comments.
This deserves more!

I heard this group sing tonight in Ft. Myers FL. One of the most beautiful concerts I have ever heard.
wonderful arrangement of this gourgious song
thank you so much
Amazing, your rendition turns this song into a whole new level of existance.

No, I'm not crying. There's pollen in the air. Or dust. Or something.
God DAMN that was beautiful.
2:12-2:17 is one of the single best arranging moments I have ever heard. The rest is great too ^^
Always loved this arrangement!
Such an indescribable beauty! It's simply the definition of a Masterpiece. I'm glad I found this.
How this only has 95K views is beyond me. It's truly a masterpiece.
Amazing! Listening to this rendition sent shivers up my spine! Absolutely beautiful!
Wow, says it all!
Absolutely amazingly gorgeously done!
Un arreglo y una interpretación preciosa
Amazing rendition!
Damn this is soooo well done
Magnifique! ❤️❤️
Angels and beauty
To wykonanie szuka sobie równego. Gratuluję.
So pretty! 💚
That is wonderful. Disturbed eat your heart out lol. What a bass voice.
Once his shirt is white and once blue. He must be magician.
Großartig 😀
They should make another “The sound of silence” video where they just sit there and don’t open their mouths.
🎉MARAVILLOSO ❤!!!
Outstanding👍👍👍👍
Que maravilha!
How do you sing so well sitting down?!
It helps when you are lip syncing :-)
@@cpjds1 cry more
How has RUclips managed to avoid putting this in my playlist before? Exceptional arrangement
Must remember to breathe again. Ohhhh!
Prodigieux ❤
Chills! Literal chills!!
Damn
I want to sing in a choir
Wow!
What happened to the original vid? Why reuploading?
No clue what's happening. Old vids are also still up.

A lampshade seam out of alignment… wow. Are you taking any meds for that OCD? 😵💫😊

Two lampshades, actually 🙂
Not much to say, it’s perfect!
What chapel?
The sound is very fuzzy and indistinct.
They will never be as good as Voctave…

Golly!
I do NOT even remember commenting this, I just found it again by accident... :O
Paul Simon would be proud
Interesting, but 'not my cup of tea'. soloist 'drowns' frequently in the background harmonies;
The depth of the harmonies means the soloist's voice is getting lost at times.
Deliberate, I suspect.
Yeah…that’s the whole point…there is no sound of silence 😇
Their bass is excellent, but we don't get his full value here. This is the first "misjudgment" I have ever heard in their arrangements.
Interesting, but the dense harmonies tend to overwhelm the solo line.
If you listen with headphones the bass cuts through the upper voices much more clearly.
@@hootedits4235 he could use a bit more resonance.

Pas du tout d'accord
@bhami - I hear it as well, in the beginning, but I believe it incubates the piece to better express the harmonies that follow
That soloist in the second verse sounds like Kermit the Frog....
Yes
Die Männer sind wirklich nicht SOLO-GEEIGNET
The tenor has a very weird voice
This production is a real disservice to Johnny. You can do so much better.. I am disappointed.
Shame it was drowned by bells racket initially. Volume for teenage people needs to be reduced. Spoiled recording.
