Heard this for the first time as my husband fought his cancer. This music made me feel like our journey was something we couldn’t control. The climax of the song was his passing and the quiet part at the end was the dawn and me figuring out how to live life without him. I never knew the artists or the name of the song til now. Thank you for putting music to what we went through.
Exquisite perfection. This vocal rendition of Barber’s “Adagio For Strings” is simply supernal. I performed and soloed with the Tabernacle Choir for 20 years and my wife has been a violinist with the Orchestra at Temple Square, the companion orchestra to the choir, for 25 years. We know and appreciate great classical music performances. This is the finest vocal offering of this great work we have ever heard. Thank you for your continued outstanding offerings of a capella and ensemble performances. You set a world class standard for tone, pitch, blend, dynamic range and amazing choral beauty. God bless!

In the spring of 1970 my high school choir performed this piece while visiting another school. We performed it a cappella. On that day we performed it perfectly. It’s a great memory. Our only mistake: we never recorded it. It exists only in my memory. Whenever I hear this piece I am deeply moved and I am reminded of how meaningful it was, and still is. My best to VOCES8.
I have always thought Barber's "Adagio for Strings" to be perhaps the most gorgeously sad piece of music, and I've heard numerous performances of "Agnus Dei," this being the most beautiful. Thank you so much.
My words, 'thank you,' never seems to be sufficient. Never. I will still continue to greatly appreciate all each of you do to lift my heart up, & begin to show sunlight to my spirit. ❤
Me: there cannot be a more beautiful sound than the sopranos, then the altos take the line, then the tenors take the line, then the basses. No group transports me more than Voces 8.
And this right here is why this choral group is the BEST. The attention to phrasing, breath, unity, and sensitivity in a piece that is too often overdone, poorly done, or insensitively done. Bravissimo 👏👏👏👏👏👏

Individually, each singer is undoubtedly an amazing talent. Together, gathered by the genius of the Samuel Barber, they becomes a singular voice that touches the soul. There is hope for this world as long as there are voices that can bring beauty to the darkness.
Just to clarify, voices don't bring beauty to the darkness. Darkness is simply the absence of light. Thankfully, Christ IS the Light of the world, Who cancels darkness and brings hope and life to a world haunted by sin. If not for God, there wouldn't be any beauty in the world.

From Wikipedia: Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) is a choral composition in one movement by Samuel Barber, his own arrangement of his Adagio for Strings (1936). In 1967, he set the Latin words of the liturgical Agnus Dei, a part of the Mass, for mixed chorus with optional organ or piano accompaniment. The music, in B-flat minor, has a duration of about eight minutes. Barber's Adagio for Strings began as the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11, composed in 1936. At the request of Arturo Toscanini, he arranged it for string orchestra, and in January 1938 sent that version to the conductor, who premiered it in New York with the NBC Symphony Orchestra.[1] In setting it to the liturgical Agnus Dei, a part of the Mass, Barber changed the music only a little.[2] As with the other arrangements of Adagio for Strings, it was published by G. Schirmer.[3][4

Fiercely difficult for an octet! The breath control and long line you need is extraordinary.
