This melody sustained me through a patch of the blackest depression I have ever encountered. I still remember it; two years ago now, lying in bed on a warm summer's evening, too empty to cry, I would listen to it over and over again. Everything was dull; there was none of the violence of feeling that one might have expected, or that came later. This is my first time listening to this version, first time hearing a choral version, and it has the same peace the one I knew had, but there is a purity that instruments other than the human voice cannot replicate. It feels clean, and finally divorced from that patch of my life. I lay down and slept, and the Lord sustained me.
I am listening to this due to my unspeakable anxiety and pain right now. Remembering the deaths I have seen and abuse, terror, I have exprerienced. I have taken far more sedatives than my doctor instructed. I should be numb, but actually I am finally ablo to cry. And even write this.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's such a hard way to be feeling. Is there any way I can help? I know I'm just an internet stranger, but I sincerely wish I could sit with you now, and just be there. Please take care of yourself however you can, and reach out to your doctor or someone you trust as soon as possible. I'm praying for you; the Lord bless and keep you through all these horrible hours.
@lauramorgan7661 Thank you. I try to stay alive till Monday, when I'll meet (what's that in English?) psychiatric nurse. This is the music of heaven. I am convinced that when we stand around that great white throne with a stream of fire flowing from beneath the feet of the Ancient of Days, the elders will be singing something like this.
I saw them live a few years ago, and I am actually glad they didn't sing this -- I would have embarrassed myself by sobbing loudly at inopportune moments.

In the spring of 1970 my high school choir performed this piece while visiting another school. We performed it a cappella. On that day we performed it perfectly. It’s a great memory. Our only mistake: we never recorded it. It exists only in my memory. Whenever I hear this piece I am deeply moved and I am reminded of how meaningful it was, and still is. My best to VOCES8.
Voces8 are SUBLIME. Ethereal voices mixed with earthly techniques and dedication. Every single recording of theirs transports me to another dimension. I have sung for over 62 years in all different venues and configurations. This group is truly a polished diamond of perfection.
I'm listening to this as a ceasefire is very close to being announced in the Israel / Gaza bloodshed over the past 15 months. May the violence end 🙏Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Lamb of God grant us peace 🙏

Exquisite perfection. This vocal rendition of Barber’s “Adagio For Strings” is simply supernal. I performed and soloed with the Tabernacle Choir for 20 years and my wife has been a violinist with the Orchestra at Temple Square, the companion orchestra to the choir, for 25 years. We know and appreciate great classical music performances. This is the finest vocal offering of this great work we have ever heard. Thank you for your continued outstanding offerings of a capella and ensemble performances. You set a world class standard for tone, pitch, blend, dynamic range and amazing choral beauty. God bless!
I don't think people understand what a bless is to have a group of people who provide such level and clear sound, just by 1 click. Much love to you all. Wish one day I have the chance to be in one of your concerts.
Heard this for the first time as my husband fought his cancer. This music made me feel like our journey was something we couldn’t control. The climax of the song was his passing and the quiet part at the end was the dawn and me figuring out how to live life without him. I never knew the artists or the name of the song til now. Thank you for putting music to what we went through.
Profundissimus! Gregorian hymns are most soothing and peaceful and really sacred that penetrates the inmost being. GOD be praised, now and forever! Well said indeed.....as a believer I would say that belief is transcendental...and for me music can be the medium of transformation beyond linguistic propositions ....let beauty survive.
The singing is indeed sublime and surely a divine gift to us human beings, calling us to seek the source of such beauty and every good gift. But it does not and cannot ever save a soul. Only Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God can do that. Seek Him!
