One of my all time favorites. The thing with Hook it's not a remake of Peter Pan but more of a sequel with Peter Pan being all grown up. I just purchased this in 4K and it looks stunning. Man I miss Robin Williams onscreen presence and what a wonderful comedian and actor.
The soundtrack is a somewhat forgotten masterpiece..It’s simply beautiful..I was lucky enough to get John Williams to sign one for me in the 90’s..One of my favorite treasures
Another bonus thing that you'd forgot to include, Minty: Dustin Hoffman had to wear a rubber suit under his costume that would allow them to pump cold water into the rubber suit due to his Hook costume being so heavy and potentially causing Hoffman to overheat from wearing it

I have watched this movie for 28 years and to this day it is one of the only movies that I watch that will make me cry. Great fun. Thank you, MInty for sharing all these movie back stories.
Life is too short to be so serious all the time. This lesson has been taught to me from friends that I have already lost and I'm in my 40's This movie shows that exact thing. RIP Robin!
Minty! I swear to God that last night I was thinking to myself: "I hope he makes a video about Hook soon, it would be such a great film for a video." And I woke up today and there it was. So awesome! Time to watch!
I didn't see it in theaters at the time since I wasn't born in 1991(I was born in the year 2000) but from 2006 - 2009 I watched it on VHS all the time, and I researched it this month on Netflix and it still holds up even to this day. RIP Robin Williams you brought me joy and laughter in my childhood and you still do.
Saw this as a kid and is one of my all time favorites, watching it again from time to time and each viewing it still remains magical. Result of the cinematic genius of Spielberg.
Hook is one of my favorites! It brought back a lost memory that Peter Pan was one of my favorite books as a child. One of the reasons the action figure of Peter looked nothing like Robin Williams is from a long standing clause in his contracts that his likeness would not be used to sell merchandise. When he was invited to be in the Terry Gilliam Baron Munchausen movie as King of the Moon, his agent allowed him with the stipulation that Gilliam not “pimp his ass”-that is, don’t use Robin to sell the film. That is why you do not see his name in the credits, on any merchandise and not in the movie posters. You’ll see in the merchandise from Hook that there are no images of Peter Pan that look anything like Robin. Also, if you look closely, Dustin Hoffman visage also does not show up much in the merchandise as well. One of my favorite scenes in the film is when Captain Hook and Smee are discussing why they did not kill Peter when they first had him. It’s a lunatic scene played for laughs and I think it is one of the best parts of the film. Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins were having trouble trying to figure out how to play the scene. They decided to act as if they were two old drag queens having a lovers’ quarrel. It worked beautifully!
Oh i was most definitely creeped out when that fact was mentioned ... im so glad Robin Williams took the role RIP (he was one of the funniest men on the planet)
This is great! My father's favorite movie. I remember him calling me to his office when I got home from school so excited I thought something happened! He was a huge Peter Pan fan. Great times

Watched this film every day when I was a kid, now I watch it with mine. & the scene where Moira (Peter's wife) throws his phone out the window has led me to try to be the best father I can be... I can't thank this film enough.
I worked in a movie theater when Hook came out...imagine my surprise when I found myself working for and becoming friends with Tony Swatton, who made the hook and swords. An interesting detail only barely visible in the film is a Latin inscription on the dagger used to pin the kidnapping note to the kids' door that translates as "There are no children who love me."

One of my favorite movies! The music for it is so fantastic! As for when Maggie sings, she's a little kid in a strange place. It's not too strange for a kid to do that as a way to comfort themself.
There were Hook video games for just about every platform. I had the one for NES, and I rented the one for Genesis once. SNES also had one as you mentioned, and I think there might have been one for Game Boy. They all played differently.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen were considered for the role of Peter Pan. Linda Hamilton and Carrie Fisher were considered for Tinker Bell. David Bowie was the original choice for Hook but turned it down
Memories!!!!! I remember my mother renting this for me when I was 9. My name babysat me and ate so many sweets after the film I ran around the house crowing hyped up on sugar. Another quality post Minty. You never fail to entertain my fragile little mind.
Bang arang Rufio. It does ge cheesy at times but honestly best shot at a remake live action Peter Pan movie and it does feel like a honest sequel to the original story. The Neverland score in the movie is just beautiful. I dont know why but it always brings tears when I hear it when I'm watch the scene when Peter becomes Pan again remembering who he is flying around
First of all, I *love* your videos; they just really make my day, especially the kids 80s/90s movies. Hook especially is a long-time favorite. I would say that I used to daydream about flying away to Neverland, but i still secretly wish that lol.
Bonus facts: Gwyneth Paltrow is also Steven Spielberg's Goddaughter. She turned down the female lead in Cool As Ice to do Hook, as her Dad didn't approve of Vanilla Ice. Big was written by Spielberg's sister, Anne. When he was going to direct it, he wanted Harrison Ford to play Josh, the boy in a man's body.
One thing with Robin Williams was that he was very particular about how his image and voice were used. This was part of his dust-up with Disney over The Genie in Aladdin. That's probably one of the reasons that the action figure of Peter Pan doesn't look like Robin Williams in the movie.

I didn't see Hook until several years after its release. In fact, when I did finally see it, I was going through a nasty custody battle and my ex was being very creepy with the kids so I was very hypersensitive about anything creepy. So, when Hook was attempting to seduce Wendy away from loving her father, I saw it as him being, well, seductive, and ended up hating the whole film for it. It actually gave me nightmares and added trauma to an already difficult situation. Looking back now, I can recognize the film as being well done with many special original touches to the story, but I don't think I can watch it again.
i realize its 2 years later but Hook wasnt trying to seduce Wendy away from her father, he was trying to win favour with Maggie, Peter Pan/Bannings daughter....not Wendy. Wendy is played by actress Maggie Smith (younger versions played by Gwyneth Paltrow) but what i wouldve taken more issue with is the fact that Hook was toying with committing suicide, with a gun to his head. Pretty dark for a film generally regarded as a "kids" movie, even though its rated PG...still, i watch the movie at least a once a year cuz its so damn good. Rotten Tomatoes and every other critic thats ever bad mouthed this movie can take the hook off Captain Hooks stump and stick it, well, you know where.
This is the first movie I ever saw in the theater without my parents. I still remember that day and the movie and how it captivated my attention when I couldn't sit through anything.

Rufio! Rufio! RU-FI-OHHHHH!
can't believe Minty forgot to mention Dante Basco would go on to voice Prince Zuko!
Another great segment Minty! Hook has always been a 'go to' flick!!! Question: who controls the amount of ads on your videos? I cancelled my premium sub (one of many) and it's been shocking, I dont remember there ever being 3 ads interrupting a 15 minute segment?
I grew up watching this movie and never knew they had action figures. I feel cheated :(
Me too
Same here. But I was born in 92 and didn't see the movie till like 96 or 97 so the toys were probably no longer popular or in production anymore by the time I was into the movie.
I had the sword and the hook. Good times.
It is not only a Great movie but also Fantastic and a Loving Movie!!!
The end credits music to your vids get stuck in my head for hours every time.
One of my favirite Robin Williams movies of all time!
"The stars are all my friends, until the nighttime ends. So I know I'm not alone when I'm here, on my own. Isn't that a wonder? When you're alone, you're not alone. Not really alone..."
