I absolutely LOVE JAWS 2! It's my favorite out of the series of movies, and I hate saying that because the original is SO GOOD! But, I'm a shallow person, lol. I like the extra gore, extra kills, and the group of stranded teenagers. Now I know the original is a superior movie. It's masterpiece. Beautiful movie.
I, was a fortunate 7 year old in 1978, and my parents took me to see Jaws 2 at the theater. We were on vacation visiting relatives in Maryland, which was a BIG city to me because we lived on an Island off the coast of N.C. The family home is still there. But anyway, we went to see Jaws 2 in a Mall movie theater, and the theater had display windows.
I'll never forget it! They had nets hanging in the windows with bloody arms and legs hanging in them and some life jackets either bite marks in them, IT...WAS ...AMAZING !
I've been a horror lover ever since I was a kid because my parents introduced me to it.

I love the idea of a prequel to the series. In this day of spin offs, reboots and remakes, it would be a great way to continue the franchise in a totally unique way that does not diminish the original films in any way. The Quint storyline of the Indianapolis sinking would be awesome and possibly even the Hooper backstory of his boat getting eaten by a shark as a kid and then his fascination and experiences of dealing with sharks leading up to hunting Jaws. So many possibilities without remaking or rebooting a classic movie....

I LOVE this movie! The perfect follow up companion piece to JAWS makes a great rainy Sunday afternoon couch potato double feature! If JAWS is lip-smacking caviar, then JAWS 2 is belly-filling meat & potatoes as Director Jeannot Szwarc described both in the Marvel comic interview page.
    .
That terrific Marvel comic is based on original director John Hancock’s darker vision and it is interesting to see which story beats such as the two divers eaten while exploring the sunken Orca and the helicopter sequence made it to the revised final screenplay.
Also - another Australian tie-in, the novel was serialised in the Australian Rupert Murdoch stable of newspapers. I recall reading the novel in Adelaide’s The News / Sunday Mail in serialised form in the lead-up promotion of the movie and was quite entranced by the story of the lone seal escaping ahead of the near-birth engorged female Shark! I am sure Melbourne and Sydney newspaper equivalents would have had the same serialised novel. I may check out the library newspaper archives for this!

Still holds up as a good sequel. I do love the Hooper reference as Brody would have definitely reached out to him. So was his obsession and PSTD. I wonder, had Scheider been on board completely would he have delivered a more compelling performance, a la Sigourney Weaver in Aliens or was the tension on set just what he needed to portray the character perfectly. Either way, the soundtrack was actually better (I listen to it more) and I do love the alternate posters.

I thought the music was better over all as well. I don't think either is anywhere near close to John's best work. Some of it is really goofy in tone and seemed more filling of Swiss Family Robinson than a suspense/horror film imo. The barrels and sailing themes in particular didn't work for me. The shark theme is obvious brilliant and surprisingly underutilized.

I like Jaws 2 ...Second half not as much. I thought the teens got annoying after a while , but Jaws 2 is held together by the great performance of Roy Scheider. He doesn't play Brody the same as he did the first time & John Williams underrated score.

When Jaws 2 came out in the UK, I was 11 and the film was an AA certificate (which meant you had to be 14 or more to view it). My older sisters were told to take me to see 'The Cat from Outer Space' but they really wanted to see Jaws2, so after we got our tickets, they persuaded me to go to se Jaws2 and keep it a secret. Well I did enjoy the film but also found it scary and got to see the original Jaws about 8-9 years later. Fun days.

Jaws 2 was one close CHOMP to an R rating withBillyVan Zants character being to to pieces and eaten alive (Jackie’s SCREAMING towards the end of he movie was actually her reaction to the death scene) but it was cut after the rating boards first screening. not only that, but there was supposedly a scene where Marge (the woman who gets killed saving Sean) is seen being eaten from the front, where the audience would actually see her inside the shark's mouth. now THAT definitely would've pushed the film's rating to an R

Yes. I saw a documentary where they showed these scenes. It was an exclusive behind the scenes documentary made by the movie studio for Video Update. They’re lying about never shooting the Marge scene. It was in that documentary. I think they’ll release the documentary for some anniversary of the movie. I’m hoping it will be the 50th.

    • @anotheraccountididntneedto7222
      @anotheraccountididntneedto7222 2 года назад

They even described how they shot the Marge scene in it. It was just the upper half of the shark(the head) and they had a slide in it, and had scuba divers pull her through the bottom of it to make it look like she got swallowed.

This movie scared the piss out of me when I was a kid. If it was not a sequel to Jaws and had been its own stand alone film, I think it would be remembered as being much better. The other Jaws films were laughably bad, particularly Jaws the Revenge. Michael Caine even admitted he only did it because they gave him a million dollars, it didn't take long to shoot his scenes, and his family got a free trip to the Bahamas.

Murray Hamilton played the Mayor, Larry Vaughn. During the filming of the Jaws, he would fly home every weekend to care for his wife who was dying of cancer. Just a little tidbit. Could explain the horribly sad look on his face during the last parts of the film.
The only thing about the sequel that I don't like is, that I wish the shark would have eaten that damn screaming girl! She drove me nuts. I'd have pushed her in the water myself 😂😂😂 every time I watch it, I find myself screaming at my t.v. "shut up, will ya!"

    • @DrQuagmire1

I've only ever seen it shown on telly, mostly in '82 and '83 in Canada and only once did one of the channels (probably from over the CAN/US border in Spokane WA as most cable channels in Alberta at the time seemed to be from there) show what happened to the Amish-looking helicopter pilot underwater after the helicopter was upside down and sinking instead of glossing over that and cutting to the next scene leaving it to us to fill in the blanks. I haven't even seen that scene when it's been shown here in the UK where editing isn't usually as strict.
The scene that probably annoyed me most was the Fruit Loops/Cheerios one as though both Kellogg's and General Mills were both vying for product placement supremacy and the script writers felt duty bound to keep the peace.
I saw Jaws 3D when it first hit the cinemas in Edmonton in late '83 (I was either 10 or not long turned 11) and my dad was annoyed as I laughed all the way through it.
