Next time don't buy standard store ammo. Because on the assembling line, each round will get a different grain amount. Look for ammo that has MATCH on the box somewhere! Match means each round has the same amount of grain in each bullet. If you use MATCH ammo, each bullet will show there speed the same, anf you'll have a much better grouping. Aleast as I was told in the military sniper school.
When I go hunting I always use MATCH ammo.

Thanks WTW! My .25-06 reloads were 3200 fps using Nosler 125 gr. boat tail hollow tips out of my Remington 700 Varmint Special bull barrel using an old Weaver K10x Range Finder AO. The action and chamber and trigger were touched up by a fella in central CA. named Ken Clark a renowned local gunsmith. I used to hunt bounty coyotes and feral dogs for cattle ranchers, and ground squirrels for large orchard owners. $10 per dog, $15 for coyotes and .25 cent a tail for ground squirrels. A weekend camp and good hunt would pay for the gas, ammo and beer. Hitting and blowing up squirrels out to 800 yards over and over all day, was a lot of fun. Canines were a lot of work. Good old days for me.

My only high-power hunting rifle is a .270 Interarms Mk X that was a door prize at a Ducks Unlimited dinner in about 1972. It still EASILY shoots under 1" at 100 yards. I've shot many deer with it, and it always does what it's supposed to do. I used to just shoot the Remington Core-Lokt ammunition from the store, but now I reload the same bullets for a little savings, and shoot them at the same speed as the factory loads, so they pretty much go in the same holes. Nice video. Thanks!

Have both the 2506 and 270 in various guns and have been doing ballistic tests with guns all the way from the 22 calibers up to the 458 Win. for 50+ years. Having said that, I have to comment on a flaw in your testing. With the 2506 you're using the maximum weight bullet in that caliber, but in the 270 you're using the medium weight bullet. The 2506 normal range of bullets run from 70 Gr. to 120 Gr. while the 270 normal weight range runs from 110 Gr to 170 Gr.. The fair comparisons would be, for the 2506 is a 100 gr. bullet, and the 130 gr. for the 270. All my tests are run through a 3 screen Oehler 35P chronograph. With worked up loads for both rifles the results are, for the 2506 (100 gr), is an average of 3423 fps with a mean deviation of 13 fps; for the 270 (130 gr), it was and average of 3102 fps with a mean deviation of 16 fps.. With this comparison you are are at least comparing apples to apples. Both guns are single shot (Browning M78 in 2506 with a 26 in. barrel, and Ruger Encore in 270 with a 28 in. barrel). I bought my first 2506 right after it was legitimized by Remington in 1969. I've had 3 different makes and all preferred close to full power loads for top accuracy. Have 3 270s; one in a custom bolt action, a Browning BAR and the Ruger Encore. I have taken deer with both cartridges (100 gr 2506 and 130 gr 270) and for deer size animals very little difference, except for the flatter shooting 2506. But the 270 is better suited for larger game than the 2506; but again, it's to a great extent not so much what you hit them with, but where you hit them. I own or have owned 11 different caliber rifles; but as an all around rifle I prefer the accuracy and flat shooting of the 2506. Just my experiences , and sorry this is so long.

    story about hunting...
    when in the Pocono mountains.
beautiful day, just me and nature.
    243, Smith and Wesson rifle.
I was out for the fun and being outdoors.
sitting in a stand and a squirrel was living in the tree, so he was up and down and down and up.
he kept on the other side, but each time he came closer and closer to my side of the tree
after awhile he came on the stand and looked at me, then back to his business.
After awhile I heard, then saw a deer. nothing record book, but nice all the same, about 100 yards away, on the forest edge and the field.
I put the cross hairs on him. everything was calm, breathing slow. and for some reason, I just thought, naw, I am really enjoying this day and well, he should too.
So I kept my scope on him for a bit, then decided to go for a walk.
got home, went to put away the rifle, opened the chamber... felt for my belt for some rounds..
you might have guessed, never took any rounds with me !
guess that deer was only something I was only every going to look at.

Both of these are easily capable of running the same speeds with their respective bullet weights. 117 or 120 grains in .25-06 or 130 grains in .270. Barrel smoothness and of course length to burn the fuel also factor in. The overlap of these two cartridges in the loads mentioned are such that I doubt anyone can demonstrate ANY visible difference under field conditions on deer size game animals. Both will deliver lightning bolt kills with boring regularity. You will have to diverge from deer size game to start seeing one be functionally different or "better". Even with trajectories being technically different, you can't even demonstrate enough difference hunting deer under field conditions to change the outcome. I will say that in the bigger picture, .25-06 is the better cartridge for varmint work and the .270 noticeably better for heavier than deer sized game. When optimum loads with significantly different bullet weights are used these cartridges show extreme differences.

270 is all I use, I don’t hunt deer only elk. Never took more than one shot to do the job. That was using a 130 grain Sierra boat tail.

Before they got stolen I had both. Win 70 Sporter with a BOSS was the 25-06. Could shoot rebar in half at 100 yards with it. Remington 700 in .270 as solid as it got. I took both when hunting and alternated using the other as a back up. Never lost an elk.

Does the Prochrono work pretty good for you? Been thinking about getting one or a Caldwell. Thanks

Yep. Both of them. I would lean on the .25-06 more for the way out there stuff like antelope or bean fields and power line and pipeline cuts. There is a ton of overlap possible in these cartridges though. On deer they are pretty much equals with the standard loads. Its more about how you set up the rifle and what loads you use for the game that can widen the differences and emphasize specific performance criteria. .25-06, .270, and .30-06 are the trifecta in my opinion. 3 rifles properly set up with glass and tuned loads are unbeatable as a western states hunting package. Magnum not required when you have these 3.

Both are good cartridges I’ve killed elk with 25-06 before I had got in a 270 I like both and it would be hard to choose one over the other
