I just shot my first whitetail yesterday morning at about 7:30am with my savage 110 in .25-06. There was a buck chasing 2 does and none of them gave me a good shot so I was a bit bummed out, lowered my gun and then I saw a nice big doe standing perfectly broadside at about 150 yards. Offhand shot went through the left shoulder and through both lungs. She didn't even make it out of the field she was in

Thanks for taking us along, Sir! I have not seen many here....but I have a few more days, the .25-06 or the 6mm Rem will speak again if I can find a buck up here in NH (I am about half and half with these two rounds, using them on nearly all 'my' deer...so your title spoke loudly to me) ... Tracking without snow can be a pretty tiring effort, but it's my usual M.O. in these New Hampshire woods. Thank you for all your videos and your conversations with us all.

Just got back from the Bob creek park in Southern Alberta. 8 years waiting for an antlered Mule tag. Some wind you couldn’t walk in. Hunting with a cousin serving as a Canadian Officer on a tight schedule. Nothing for three nights in a backpack camp. Your opening line made me smile even though I feel all of my 58 years.

"Fair chase" is relative to the hunter and I'm not knocking you at all. Maybe that would be a good video topic in the future. How does one define "fair chase" and how does Ron Spomer define fair chase. Hunting ethics essentially. Would love to hear your input. Thanks for everything Ron- keep it up sir

Waidmannsheil with the buck and the doe!
How does it work with tags overthere. Are the populations monitored? Is there a quota of does and bucks that have to be culled? And who decides how big that quota is?
Overhere in the Netherlands there is a weekend in february when all the hunter count all the roe deer in their fields on two evenings and a morning. That number is used in combination with the amount of cover and suitable habitat for the deer to calculate how many roe deer there approximately are (van Haaften methode). I think that this number is most of the time a underestimation. Thanks in advance.
    With kind regards,
    Gaatze

Regular monitoring by conservation officers balanced by landowner complaints and tolerance of deer numbers. Then limited tags sold per sex and species.

Looks like you are carrying that Dakota single shot 25-06. I was all excited about the Dakota until I had one in hand. It's open pistol grip doesn't appeal to me. I like the ruger number one and actually the Winchester 1885 a little better, but I am not so excited about the straight grip on the 1885. The browning B78 appeals to me more but I have read so much about the trigger on them, that I am a little leary of them. I was looking for an 1885 though, and on a deer hunt by miles city about 8-9 years ago, I saw the lever of an 1885 sticking out on a gun rack in a store there. It turned out to be a rifle from a special run of browning B78's built on the newer 1885 action with the newer simpler trigger, or so I was told. It was a 30-06 so I was hesitant at first as I already had a number of 30-06's, but when they pulled it out, I had to have it. It had a gorgeous feathercrotch walnut stock on it and a 24 inch barrel instead of the standard 28 inch of the 1885 (plus the pistol grip stock of the B78), so not only is it beautiful but it is also quite compact. I asked if they had any others in z different caliber, and they had one other. It had a 26 inch barrel in 300 win mag and a lighter colored stock with extensive fiddleback figure. It took a long time for me to talk myself out of not taking both, but I don't really have a need for a 300 mag. I have regretted that decision many times since. I have only seen one other rifle from that run, a 270 with 24 inch barrel online. I should have got it but I am leaning towards a 28 inch barrel in 270 for the extra velocity. I haven't bought a standard 1885 in 270 because of the straight grip on them. I did have an 1885 low wall in 22-250 that I was seriously considering having it bored out to 25-06 but I prefer the ejector of the highwall, to the extractor of the low wall. I ended up selling the rifle. I wish now that I had done it. The slim light compact low wall in 25-06 would have been a dandy to carry deer hunting. I have contemplated getting a 28 inch barreled 1885 in 270 and restocking it with an exquisite feathercrotch blank I have, but making it a pistol grip stock, but the cost has detered me so far. Your Dakota is a nice looking rifle, I hope you get to enjoy many hunts with it. Nothing like hunting with a classic, good looking, single shot rifle.

Must be nice to have private land ware buck deer 🦌 actually come into a field during daylight. Come to ware I live in Wilmington NY. Only way I see deer like that is a 3mile plus hike into the mountains. Urban Deer don't dare move here during the day. But the deer deep in the mountains do move in daylight ,not getting the hunting pressure

Did you notice the high shot wound on the first buck at 2:15? He must’ve been in exhale during the impact. Great hunt Ron! It was hard to tell the ranges, was the 6-pointer not a good shot?

Those partridges in the pear tree were actually sharp tail grouse in a Russian olive tree.

Ron, you guys hunting north of Bear Butte, by Nisland or Newell, SD? Looks pretty familiar…. Me and my sons are hunting the same area for some does for the freezer. Same conditions here if not hunting that area. (thought we saw the Butte in the background)

Nice vid as always. I noticed the buildings in the background. Did you limit your shots to specific angles? I hunt on suburban land and I’m very cognizant of my shooting lanes. I read your article on hunting in populous areas and did use Vmax on a doe with good effect.

Need to remain situationally aware of building and road locations. The camera lens makes things look much worse than they actually are.

Yeah, I was also disappointed...for I wanted to see Barnes TTSX in a positive light, since I personally have not had the best of luck with them...having to track game if bone isn’t struck. I’m assuming it was a high shoulder shot to be a bang-flop as described.
