My ex wife bought me a Remington 700 ADL in .25-06 about 30 years ago...she is gone the rifle is still with me! I consider myself the winner in that exchange!
My father gave me his 1971 Ruger in 25-06 when I was in high school. It’s been my go to rifle for 30 years as well. I plan on replacing the original Scope Chief with a much clearer Vortex.
@@HarrisonCountyStudio I like high end scopes but being an all American rifle like that I would think about luepold just due to good warranty and American made..
.25-06 is a beast if you know how to shoot, your definitely not going to shoulder over a elk, but if you are a confident shooter you can take elk all day with neck/heart/lung shots at 500. Deer and antelope are toast, and 75gr hand loads for coyotes are the bomb.
@jonnyweaver1912 - in a way, you're right (overrated). The whole point of 6.5 is cartridge/action length... same reason for development of .300 Blackout.
I have used 25-06 for years. Good friend uses one too. I have dropped 2 moose, 4 black bear, dozens of caribou and 3 wolves. Every one shot with 100gr TSX. Only shot twice at a moose one time to prevent him from dying in the river he was wobbling towards. My friend has had much more luck. He has at least twice the animal count I do. 25-06 is all you need if you use a tough hunting bullet like a partition or monometal (TSX, GMX)
I've owned two 25-06s and I love this cartridge. It does everything I need it to do as I don't hunt anything larger than whitetails. Very underrated cartridge in my opinion. I also own a 270 which I like really well but it wont kill a deer any deader. Never shot a 6.5 cm and don't think I need to.
I've had a 25-06 with a 26" barrel, zeroed in at 250 yards. Midrange trajectory is 2.9" and drop at 300 yards is 3.5". AT 250 yards it has 1582 lbs of energy remaining based on a Hornady 117 gr BTHP Interlock. Granted, it was adopted as the 25-06 in 1969 but, Charles Newton necked down the .30-06 Springfield cartridge in 1912 to create the original wildcat that became the 25-06.
I invested a whole 205 dollars in a used Remington 700 ADL 25-06 in 1981, and can’t even count the animals it has dispatched never had a deer take a step after being hit. It’s been sighted in at 200 yards, with a 3 shot group you could cover with a quarter… and in 2022 my oldest son took a prong horn at just over 400. It’s definitely an underrated cartridge.
I've shot a Howa 1500 in .25-'06 for Arizona Coues deer for a long time. There are scores of excellent cartridges, but the .25-'06 is definitely one of the best for open country game shooting. Mild recoil and excellent ballistics. I have literally spun several Coues deer with 117 grain Hornady Superformance SST cartridges.
I built a 25-06 on a K98 action with a douglas supreme barrel, back in the early 70’s. Sold it when I joined the Navy. Most accurate rifle I’ve ever owned. Groundhogs in summer, deer in winter. That rifle is still being used for varmint and deer control on a major airport to this day. Hands down, my favorite rifle round, now own a Savage 110 in 25-06.
Roy Weatherby's favorite cartridge was the .257 Weatherby Magnum. I killed my first buck with a Rem 700 bdl in 25-06 with a handloaded 120 grain Speer. I am a firm believer in a bullet that does not exit but dumps all of energy inside the cavity. A 22-250 is the quickest killer I have ever hunted deer with! 22-250 handloard 60gr Hornady hp interlock. The first two centerfire cartridges N. Carolina approved for deer was a 220 Swift and the 22-250. **Realistic distances like out to 450 yds 25-06 or 275 22-250.
I knew a guy in northeastern Vermont who hunted those big northern whitetails with a 22-250 and I thought he was either irresponsible or nuts. But thinking about it, if you can hunt deer with a 223/556, then a 22-250 with a good bullet makes sense. The parent cartridge, 250 Savage was classic deer medicine in the lever action 99.
This guy below says it all. Shoots flat like a .22-250, low recoil like a .243, and hits hard like a .270. In fact it has better ballistics than a .270. The .270 got better publicity as Winchester's Rifleman's cartridge. Ballistic coefficients don't matter at hunting distances. BC bullets are not hunting bullets when it comes to terminal ballistics. BC bullets are bench shooting bullets designed to shoot farther than ethical hunting distances. The .25-06 suffers from a lack of bullet variety (specifically heavier bullets) and better twist rates. Not a lot of bullet selection in .25 caliber. The .25-06 is the most underrated hunting rifle cartridge but it sure does excel at taking deer. The old wood stocked Savage 110 in .25-06 was just an awesome rifle. Selling it when young and stupid was a regret. ruclips.net/video/AnmJAfBWlfg/видео.html
As I recall there are 75,85,100,110,115,117,and 120gr bullets available in .257 caliber and I may have missed a couple. As far as young and dumb I sold my Ruger#1 SS in 25-06. It came with a 26"barrel and was shorter overall than most bolt guns with 22". Massive regret here.
Totally agree...The 25-06 is the most underrated HUNTING RIFLE CARTRIDGE that is way more than just a deer hunting cartridge. I bought my first hunting rifle cartridge in 1981 from a very knowledgeable gentleman who had a license to sell firearms. He opened up 1 of his safes in his home after I told him that I was interested in buying a 25-06. That 1 safe alone had nothing but rifles in the 25-06 caliber. I still have that pretty wood stocked Ruger M77 and I have taken all types of game from small whitetailed deer in central texas to larger mule deer, pronghorn, and 1 cow elk in wyoming. That rifle has also accounted for several texas exotics, feral hogs, coyotes, and prairie dogs. The rifle is accurate and lethal with very tolerable recoil. I am glad that I have kept that rifle because rifles in 25-06 caliber are becoming very difficult to find. Using good 117 or 120 grain bullets for hunting larger big game animals and using 100 grain bullets for medium sized big game animals and varmints, I have only lost 1 whitetail deer after being shot and hit solidly. All other game and varmints shot and hit have either fallen in their tracks or they have never run more than 50 yards from where they were shot.
i have used the 25-06 since 1979,, used them on elk lots, still do,,and everything else i hunt,,never have lost any game with a 25-06,, i have 7 rifles in this caliber ,,,its one of the best cartridges out there,, i load my own ammo,,for serious hunting,,it beats the 6.5 creedmoor,,,regardless of what is wrote about that cartridge, i have several 6.5 s,, but will trade them off,,,,not very impressive,,a faster twist 25-06 would be what i will try next,,,,,,with the new heavier bullets,, it should be impressive,,,
I never even shot a .25-06 but I love everything I read and hear about it . If I had it to do all over over again I would have purchased the .25-06 instead of my .243 . Speaking of great cartridges based on the “.06” case , I would enjoy a video to hear your thoughts about the .280 Remington 😉 I do own one of these ( in a Winchester model 70 featherweight)
It is amazing how many people these days are so worried about ballistic coefficients yet most cannot tell you a thing about what it is or why it is OR is not important... I blame the creedmoor craze for that..
I posses a ruger no. 1 in 25-06. Every mule deer I’ve shot with it looked like it fell asleep where it was standing with 100 grain gameking. It’s absolutely the finest deer cartridge I’ve ever shot.
The 25-06 is my favorite cartridge for whitetail.. Hornady loaded a 90 grain GMX in 25-06, and if I’m not mistaken the BC was identical to the SST 117 grain. Dynamite on whitetail, fast and flat. Knocks a hole in them too, does a fantastic job.
I'm with you Austin. I've been using the 25-06 here in Australia on goats for some 16 years and it's bloody awesome. I'm now using Hornady 110 grn ELD-X. I reticently hit 3 goats in succession at 610 yds and just punched straight through both shoulders on all 3. Despite some 25-06 haters here in Australia, I wont stray from what has been a fantastic caliber for what i shoot
The 25-06 is imho the best all around cartridge for hunting deer sized big game and varmints. If I could only have one rifle it would be chambered in this round. Fortunately I dont have to have just one rifle.
Second rifle I ever bought was a Ruger M-77 with a fairly heavy barrel in 1989 when I was 17. I put a rather cheap Burris 3-9 X scope on it, bought two boxes of 117 gr ammo, sighted in, and killed three cow elk, three muley does, four bucks, and two coyotes before I finished that second box of ammo. Fine cartridge.
My hunting partner in high school (1970's rural Mo) had a 25-06 and me a 243. We tuned a lot of ground hogs into 2 smaller "hoglets" in soybean fields from barn lofts with those rigs and some help from Sierra
I helped farmers put up hay when I was a teenager and saved money for a rem 700 bdl in2506 . My dad had to buy it for me cause I was under age and now I'm in my 60s and still hunt with it
I've only ever taken a single deer in my entire life. I shot a trophy black tail on mount hood in Oregon on opening day, I shot it with my dad's 25-06. Certainly a memory that I'll never forget.
Every one that I've talked to that owns a 25-06 swears up and by it. I had a short time of working in a rifle shop that built bean field rifles, and we're always chambering one straight off of the lathe. 0 complaints about a 25-06. It was a famous wild cat favorite since the 1920's.
Appreciate you guys doing your research. this is something I've known for quite a few years I'm 55 now I bought my first 25-06 Ruger bull-barrel when I was 16. My eighteen-year-old youngest daughter now has a 25-06 Tikka I'm so proud that she is accomplished enough now that she shoots tremendous groups even stacking one on top of another at times❗in a 10-year stretch a while back myself and a couple of my buddies would get out before the grass got too tall and drive the roads and shoot groundhogs👉👉 with my 25-06 I have took quite a few @ 500+ yards my furthest deer kill was slightly over 800! it took 2 rangefinders to get the yardage ranging one spot walking to their and rang the rest ❗❗ you guys keep doing what you do and I'll continue to follow
No way you killed any big game animal even a deer at 800 yards with a 25.06. That's complete hogwash. That bullet doesnt have the energy at 800 yards to kill a deer. I dont believe it
@@Lol-cd4ii Yeah you're probably one of those clowns that swears by a shotgun and slugs because of kinetic energy. If You don't believe that I've done it or can shoot at those distances on the regular that's on you! Maybe you're one of those that swears by the 6.5 CREEDMOOR because it sounds cool?? When the ballistics shows the 25-06 totally destroys it after 500 yd!! In my younger years I killed 50+ deers with a 22-Long &-or a 22 magnum🤔 Next some people and most likely yourself that's not confident in their ability to hit what their aiming @ that thinks you should shoot a deer in his shoulder disabling him only to need another bullet &-or a knife to finish his job!! @@terryeibeck8036 lol if a clown is a guy that shoots the correct calibers for game then yes I'm a clown. I hunt with a .308 cause I'm not a recoil pansy and it its ethical it kills. 25 06 my wife wouldnt even shoot. No way a 25 06 will cleanly kill at over 800 yards not a big game. It's not a good deer round past 400 yards. It's not stable enough especially in the wind it moves like crazy. Been hunting for over 20 years and I know a story when I hear one. Theres a reason the 25 06 never caught on it's not a good deer round for distance. Inside 400 it's ok. Past 400 and especially 800 yards on deer? You obviously cant hunt if your shooting 800 yards on game. If you csnt get within 100 yards of your shot you need to learn to hunt. It's like the 6.5 cm homos now are deer snipers. Learn to hunt and stalk your game not take 800 yard shots with a children's caliber that's not intended for those ranges. That's not hinting. That's shooting at animals. How is that hunting? Sounds like you need to learn how to hunt

Just found this great video. Been shooting and loading for the 25-06 since the early 80’s. I love how everyone is so worried about 500+ yard performance on game. I’ve spent a few hundred hours at 600+ yard public ranges and one thing I’ve learned is that probably 9 out of 10 people shooting next to me have no business shooting at game past 300. I’ve seen a LOT of shooters that read the articles on how the latest whiz bang cartridge kills elk at a mile so they show up at the range with their precision rifle topped with the $1,500 scope then hold 10” or even 15” groups at 500. I usually hear something about how their going to Montana or New Mexico for an elk hunt and the closest shot they will get is 600+. I don’t have the experience of a lot of you reading this but I’ve hunted with nearly a dozen different outfitters for pronghorn, Whitetails, mulies and elk. With the exception of a cow elk meat hunt and one mule deer hunt, every one of those outfitters frowned upon taking any shot past 300. This is where the 25-06 truly shines. My pet load for years is a max load of IMR 4831 pushing 115 partitions @ 3120. My Styer holds honest 1” groups with this load @ 200. For the Nosler PT haters I have the targets and witnesses 😉. This combo has proven to be devastating on whitetails! I’ve even taken a cull hunt red stag with with the load. One shot behind the shoulder, maybe 10 steps and the animal was down. Haven’t hunted elk in a few years now but when I do, I step up to a 7mm with 160’s or 30 cal with 180’s. Everyone has their own medicine, that’s just what works for me.
I hear you dude, cant count on both hands how many times I've been to the range with my 25/,06 or 7mm.rem mag shooting at 3 ,4 and 500 yards cuz that's my personal limit for I have too much respect for the animal to blaze away at it over that range. At 400 with with rifle I can keep my rounds inside a 6 inch circle, plenty good for most hunting situations .If the whitetail, miley or bull elk of a lifetime steps out at 500 I'm covered. So many times guys at the range misjudge range so badly it's ridiculous. I had one guy watch me shoot a 3 inch group ( my personal best ) one day at 400 and remarked how well my rifle grouped at a half mile. I informed him that the distance was 400 but he insisted it was over 800 so I whipped out my lader rangefinder , showed him the range which was 397 yards and heard him mumble that my rangefinder was off cuz he sights his 25/06 dead on at a half mile and If his target is a mile away he just holds on top of the back. GEEZ LOUISE PEOPLE ARE DENSE.
I have a older Ruger 77V in 25-06 and absolutely love love love it !!! Cream puff to shoot all day at the range and can easily dump 200rds thru it in a t-shirt with no worries.
25-06 Remington is a deer killing machine. Fantastic on deer sized game. 25-06 was the brain child of Nedner (Needner) and the cartridge was a wildcat until after WW2 when slower powders became available which helped the cartridge out and as its popularity grew Remington adopted it. 100gn bullets moving 3000 FPS and up is nasty and has turned the blood to jello on more than a few deer for me. Also, the cartridge can be loaded with lighter bullets to double up as your varmint and Predator shooting too.
First time I took my Son Antelope Hunting he was using my Remington 6mm Rem and I told him if he shot a Antelope with 15 inch prongs I would buy him a new rifle. Well he did shoot a nice Antelope and on are way home Stopped in Mitchell SD and bought him a 25-06 in a Remington 700 CDL why because it is a Great Western Cartridge for anything smaller than Elk.
Long time 25-06 shooter here. It kills way out proportion to its size. I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot anything up to the size of elk with the proper projectile. I’m currently having a fast twist 25-06 built to take advantage of newer high BC projectiles.
@A H there are lots of good factory stuff for black bear. Pretty much anything that is good on our big white tail here in Canada is good in black bear. 400 pound bucks are pretty common here. Federal load a 110 accubond at 3100fps. That would be a great factory black bear round.
I sold my WBY 270 because of broken bones. 25-06 feels great and I just love going to the range to shoot it. I love making reloads and playing with it.
I relate to him saying people of small stature. I love big bores but for rifles my back can't handle it for very long. I do have a 8mm Rem. Mag & I have handguns up to 500mag. I'm 5'7"ish 140lbs. with sever spine curves ( yes plural ) so my short barrel 25.06 is a keeper.
This year was the first time I ever heard of the 25-06 round and I hunted with someone who used a rifle chambered in 25-06 and he said that it's one of his new favorite cartridges to hunt with.
Get a barrel with a1 in 8 twist for the 25:06 and long heavy bullets and you will leave the competition behind. A slow twist and light bullets are the only thing limiting the 25:06.
Back in 1995, I had a custom barrel maker named Bevin King, who trained under P.O. Ackley himself, take me under his wing and teach me to make my own barrels! What an honour! The first one we made together was a ,26" long 25-06 Remington in stainless. We fluted the barrel, threaded and headspaced it onto my Ruger M77 tang safety action. That combo is scary effective on game! My friend has passed now, and I think of him every time i see that rifle. It is a wonderful cartridge!
If you shoot deer in open areas it is really tough to beat. What I think a lot of people miss is the lower recoil than the .270, hits harder than the .243, flatter shooting than most other calibers other than super expensive Weatherby’s. I put down deer very fast if I put the bullet in a good shot. It can put down Elk at reasonable distances. It does not push through brush good at all. No bullet does great but it’s the last gun I take if I might need to punch through brush. Hunting over a big field from a stand….It is ideal. Or mountain hunting where long shots are common. The low recoil helps me to quickly reacquire my target and/or take a second animal before it runs off. Plenty of power to put a deer down fast, with low enough recoil to reacquire my target fast, with enough velocity to not drop much. It’s about the easiest way to kill deer. If hunting in thick stuff I bring a slug gun or a big slow moving bullet.
The dude in the green asked a brilliant question about twist rates. The 6mm rem a necked 257 Roberts. I believe had a 1-12 when the 243 has a 1-9. The 6mm rem could stabilize up to 90gr bullet when the 243 could support up to 115gr Bullet I hope the 6mm creedmore has a 1-8. Simple rule longer bullets need faster twist Rates.
Here in WV the 25-06 has a following even though most of your shots are at 100 yds or less. I grew up hunting with a 30-06 and took my first Deer with it. The 25-06 is just better to me....the idea of being on a 06 but sending a 25 caliber bullet that is flatter shooting really fills that niche. I have a friend that bought the Sanderos back in early 2000 I believe and used 100 grains and he swore by them and said every deer he pulled on dropped in its tracks..on paper he couldn't believe how accurate it was and pleasant to shot.
I feel fortunate to have grown up among a family of handloading , bolt action toting deer and varmint hunters , giving me the edge on many who don,t realize the potential of calibers like the 25/06 and the 7mm rem mag both of which I have and love.Along with my rem 783 3006 I think there is no better trio of calibers out there, since this is about the 25/06 suffice it to say with 120 gr noslers it's taken 16 deer that never knew what hit them.
These are really good videos, truly enjoyed them. As a hand loader of 25-06, 243 and 22-250 it was nice to see some videos on these......particularly the 25-06. I shoot an 80grn Barnes TTSX at 3600fps with Reloader 17 for one of my predator calling rifles. Both of my 25-06's shoot well with all bullet weight offerings in .257...........the cartridge is impressive. Although I do disagree about the 22-250 being the white claw to the 243 (22-250 video). It is my opinion that they are too different to be compared like that. I may be a traditionalist but I see a 22-250 shooting 40 to 55grn bullets and the 243 being 75grn Vmax's up through 100grn offerings. Keep up the videos, thanks for posting.
If you want something that will kill anything on the planet then a 300 win mag gets the prize. It bruises the shoulder tho, there's a price for everything.
Yeah, the 7mm-08 does for sure. You get essentially the same speed with higher bc with less recoil, barrel length, and a short action. Is it as cool as the 270? No definitely not.
If you truly mean "all around" it's difficult to beat 30-06. Not knocking 270 but some big brown bears like to argue and 270 is in MHO a bit light(actually so is 30-06) for that. Just really need to figure what all around actually encompasses.
The .25-06 is essentially a .30-06 necked down to fit a .257 projectile. At one point, it was commonly used as a wildcat round and it does have a lot of capability for long range. At 1,000 yards, a few .25-06 rounds will hit 100 inches higher than a 7.62 x 51 round will.
Use your brain. Short action versus Long action. Of course the Long action has more energy. And Creedmoor is not a dud. It's actually fantastic. The cartridges aren't comparable. So why would you shoot a Creedmoor at large game suited to the long action cals? You wouldn't. So stop comparing them and use your bloody brain.
@@EnkeiTenjin 6.8 western or a original 270 with a 1 in 8 twist Barrel. Not saying 6.5 is a dud but att the testing is with 24 inch Barrel with modern twist rates. I would love to see the older calibers with faster twist
@@travissmith-wz5nc Bringing back old cartridges with different twist rates is really like trying to polish a turd. Not saying they’re actually bad, but why do that when you can simply adopt a newer, more efficient, lower recoil, higher performance chambering that’s already designed to shoot those longer bullets?
@@MTLeadSlanger lol. U re Barrel a 270, 308, 3006 300 mag with faster twist rate modern bullets. The 6.8 western and 270 short mag. Is that the turd redo? Best of luck to you this fall.
That I think was Outdoor Life. 500 yard range. Savage 112 in 25-06. 1.577 inch group at 500 yards. I have the article here close to hand. Just need to find the right stack.
My first center fire caliber, have taken a huge amount of deer with it. Reloading, like with most calibers, brings out the best in it. At one time Remington produced a 122gr ER (extended range) load that my Remington 700 loved. A 115 Silvertip took tons of deer, but not ideal for less than 100 yards.
Every White-tailed deer I have ever shot with my 25-06 was DRT. I have Never had to track any of them. I actually have a picture of the first 8 point I killed with this gun and it has clover hanging out both sides of it's mouth. (Didn't even drop it's food before it died). Federal premium Nosler partition. Total DEVASTATION!!!!! Can't explain it , nor would I try. Just know that it works, WELL.
It’s my favorite deer and antelope cartridge. My most accurate load is a Speer 120 grain boat tail. 49 grains of H4350. Winchester LRP. My rifle is a Remington 700BDL.
I shoot a 257 Weatherby now but have owned a 25-06 in the past. Both of these cartridges for deer sized game and down is hard to beat. All of the deer that I have shot with both have not moved far from where they were hit. I think they are at that magic spot of light recoil, the right velocity, and enough bullet to drop the animal.
I bought mine used in 1996. Commercial Heym Mauser action built some time in the late 1950s. The 120 Nosler partition will thump an elk with authority. You just need a lot of barrel to get the most out of it.
I have 2 Savage rifles in 25-06. One is a standard tapered barrel and the other is the 110FP (For Police) heavy barrel rifle with a 24" barrel. I put it on a Choate Machine and Tool Ultimate Varmint Stock. The heavy barrel combined with the Choate stock makes for a very heavy rifle but is one hell of a combination for shooting groundhogs and coyotes while resting the weapon over round hay bales with my Harris bipod.
I have a 25-06 and it’s been great. Hopefully the 25 Creedmoor brings on some 125-130 grain bullets. Have thought about rebarreling it to a 6.5-06 A square. Do you guys think this caliber will be revised with the whole 6.5 craze? Ps great videos so far.
Hornady factory specs - .25-06 90gr GMX Superformance compared to 6.5 Creedmoor 95 gr VMax - .25-06 is 3350 fps; 6.5 is 3300 fps giving about 50 lb-ft more muzzle energy. Bullet drop, per Hornady, is 38.5" for the .25-06 vs. 34.8" for the 6.5, at 500 yds, both with 200 yd zero. Surprised me, since the .25-06 is a bigger case, I thought it would have a significant edge in velocity. However, my reloading manual gives a clear velocity advantage for the .25-06.
25-06 handloaded with117g SST and 2213 sc compressed load will do 3250fps all day long. The 257 wtby mag with 110g accubond and 75g of powder will whistle out over 3600fps all day. They both shoot like lasers.
My comment is going to be apples vs oranges, deer vs varmint, but people overlook these smaller caliber cartridges and they will surprise you. Probably one of my favorite cartridges that my statement applies to is the 204 Ruger...that round is cooking out of the muzzle!
Just bought a good condition Ruger M-77 in 25/06.Looking forward to seeing what it can do.I heard so many good things about flat shooting, had to buy one.
@@davidorpwood8433 No kidding, anything any caliber can do the .264 Win Mag can do better. I have a custom .264 built on an old commercial Mauser action with a 28" barrel and it's been killing game and driving tacks for decades before I was even born. Taking it Nilgai hunting in December and it's going to claim another species. And while we are talking about it wheres the .220 Swift love??? those 2 calibers are the most under rated in history.
Highly recommend the 25-06. I loaded some 100 Grain Swift Scirocco II, RL 22, @ 3,410 chronograph. The bullet is tough, high BC and shoots 1/2 MOA out of my Tikka T3 with a 22.5” barrel.
The problem with me and the 25 - 0 6 is that I already have a 65 creedmoor, 270, 30 - 06 and have everything that I need in the 270 so I'll probably never buy one for that reason. Otherwise it's a really cool round. I shot a buddy's rifle and it is all that Ryan said. Pretty darn flat shooting. Thanks guys
My ex wife bought me a Remington 700 ADL in .25-06 about 30 years ago...she is gone the rifle is still with me! I consider myself the winner in that exchange!
😂👍
Amen to that!

@@Aaron-mn8gw still has his 25-06 though..some times that may just be enough

My dad bought me a 25-06 when I was a kid. It’s been my favorite rifle for 30 years now.
When he said that the 25 06 beat the 6 5 Creedmoor, my heart skipped a beat. I will forever cherish this video 🥰🤣🤜😵.
6.5 is so. Overrated... 270 or 2506 both better
@jonnyweaver1912 - in a way, you're right (overrated). The whole point of 6.5 is cartridge/action length... same reason for development of .300 Blackout.
I agree with you but you are also comparing a short action to a long action. Hard to go apples to apples
Just wait until the man buns realize they can make a 25-280ai :/ … Then they just need Patagonia to make Digicam*
Just purchased 25/06 in weatherby vanguard can't wait to test it
I've owned two 25-06s and I love this cartridge. It does everything I need it to do as I don't hunt anything larger than whitetails. Very underrated cartridge in my opinion. I also own a 270 which I like really well but it wont kill a deer any deader. Never shot a 6.5 cm and don't think I need to.
Ryan is a wealth of cartridge knowledge. I could see myself talking to him for hours at the range.
25 06 all day long. Best gun I've ever owned I love it
I used a .25-06 when I first got into PRS. 3100 fps on 85gr BT and 2900 117gr SST made 1000 yards easy and with authority. Beautiful cartridge!
If you harvest aka kill enough deer, there will always be a few that takes a few steps.
I own a 25.06 and it’s one of the most accurate guns I have
I DO AS WELL...MY GO TO RIFLE...VERY ACCURATE...LESS SOUND
All other game and varmints shot and hit have either fallen in their tracks or they have never run more than 50 yards from where they were shot.
i have used the 25-06 since 1979,, used them on elk lots, still do,,and everything else i hunt,,never have lost any game with a 25-06,, i have 7 rifles in this caliber ,,,its one of the best cartridges out there,, i load my own ammo,,for serious hunting,,it beats the 6.5 creedmoor,,,regardless of what is wrote about that cartridge, i have several 6.5 s,, but will trade them off,,,,not very impressive,,a faster twist 25-06 would be what i will try next,,,,,,with the new heavier bullets,, it should be impressive,,,
If a rifle manufacture didn't make a rifle in 25 06 but you really liked that model of rifle what would your next choice be?
Being the owner of having a
Marlin 25-06.Rem, I will say that it's by far the BEST game calibur I've ever owned.
LOVE IT 💯💯💯
I never even shot a .25-06 but I love everything I read and hear about it . If I had it to do all over over again I would have purchased the .25-06 instead of my .243 . Speaking of great cartridges based on the “.06” case , I would enjoy a video to hear your thoughts about the .280 Remington 😉 I do own one of these ( in a Winchester model 70 featherweight)
.25-06 with a 1 in 7½ twist barrel and the 130+grn bullets smoke the 6.5 Creedmoor all day long like a laserbeam.
It is amazing how many people these days are so worried about ballistic coefficients yet most cannot tell you a thing about what it is or why it is OR is not important... I blame the creedmoor craze for that..
No I blame stupid people who act like sheep for that.
This caliber has very quickly became my #2 behind my 7mm-08. Came to this caliber in my 50's and it is not to far off my favorite.
I posses a ruger no. 1 in 25-06. Every mule deer I’ve shot with it looked like it fell asleep where it was standing with 100 grain gameking. It’s absolutely the finest deer cartridge I’ve ever shot.
Ive got a Ruger#1 Heavy Barrel with a leupold , i love it
You know nothing about 25-06 until you’ve reloaded. It is wicked fast and holds its own. Beats 6.5 creedmore.
Probably beats the 6.5 PRC too
Creedmoor is popular, in part, because of the AR-10 platform. The 257 Roberts is excellent, so the 25-06 is obviously better.
@@tomcurran8470I want a 257 Roberts or 204 ruger
I've use my 25-06 all the time now for Deer . They go down , and unlike a lot of cartridges nowadays , I can eat 95% of the edible parts .
Shoot a 6.5x55 Swedish, cartridge designed in 1893, in a rifle made in 1900. Will outshoot a creedmore, and has done for 100+ years..
doesn't fit in an ar10 mag though. that's kinda why 6.5 CM is so badass. 6.5 x 55 would be better compared to a .264 winmag
Bought a Tikka T3 Lite in a 6.5X55 and it is my favorite whitetail rifle.
Bought a model 70 in 25-06 my lord it’s deadly accurate

If You don't believe that I've done it or can shoot at those distances on the regular that's on you!
Maybe you're one of those that swears by the 6.5 CREEDMOOR because it sounds cool??
When the ballistics shows the 25-06 totally destroys it after 500 yd!!
In my younger years I killed 50+ deers with a 22-Long &-or a 22 magnum🤔
Next some people and most likely yourself that's not confident in their ability to hit what their aiming @ that thinks you should shoot a deer in his shoulder disabling him only to need another bullet &-or a knife to finish his job!!

AFTER THEY GOT THERE THEY FOUND OUT THE NEIGHBOR BECAUSE THE MOTHER MOOSE HAD CHARGED HER SHE SHOT IT WITH HER PELLET GUN IT WENT LIKE 50 YARDS INTO THE WOODS AND FELL DEAD THUS THE REASON FOR THE BABY MOOSE HANGING AROUND

DON'T GET ME WRONG I WASN'T DOGGING YOUR 243 NECKED UP TO A 308 Good day and happy hunting 🇺🇸
I have a ruger no. 1 chambered in 25-06. Hands down my favorite white tail rifle
Just picked up a 25-06 early this year, I like the light and fast calibers.
25-06 and 257 wby will always be my favorite calibers
Would like to see a video on the 35 Whelen
Wow. First comment I read as I came here to say the same. I'd love to see a video on the Whelen. We've had a .25-06, now lets have a .35-06!
I agree on that
Me too and I own two .35 Whelens.
I would like to see a vid on the Whelen as well!
Assuming you are referring to the blackjacks, what twist are you going with?
im suprised the 25 06 isnt more popular
@A H Let’s not forget that the 270 was already very popular.
@A H 25-06 is a great black bear round. Maybe not a grizz though. Lol
@A H anything under 600pounds under 500 yards is a great go with the 25. And yes they tear up a black bear.
@A H there are lots of good factory stuff for black bear. Pretty much anything that is good on our big white tail here in Canada is good in black bear. 400 pound bucks are pretty common here. Federal load a 110 accubond at 3100fps. That would be a great factory black bear round.
@A H how far are you shooting your bear?
I sold my WBY 270 because of broken bones. 25-06 feels great and I just love going to the range to shoot it. I love making reloads and playing with it.
25-06 is a wonderful long range Antelope cartridge. Use mine on Coyotes way out there.
If you reload, for varmint hunting, Sierra makes a 70 grain Blitzking, same as the Nosler Ballsitic tip. Get 3600-3700 fps out of mine. H4350 powder.
@@SilverBullet22250 Muzzle velocity can become an obsession. The 25-06 is at its finest with the heavier bullets 117 and 120gr.
@@NoTaboos matter of opinion and you're entitled to it.
I shot 25-06 with 75g v max at nearly 4000fps,it was just a globule of lead and copper at that speed, but on UK foxes it was dynamite.
I started my stepson on a 25.06 and he’ll tell you that the 25.06 is very deadly on antelope and mule and whitetail deer.
The 100 grain Ballistic Tip and the 100 grain Core-Lokt are both excellent performers in my 25-06
I feel fortunate to have grown up among a family of handloading , bolt action toting deer and varmint hunters , giving me the edge on many who don,t realize the potential of calibers like the 25/06 and the 7mm rem mag both of which I have and love.Along with my rem 783 3006 I think there is no better trio of calibers out there, since this is about the 25/06 suffice it to say with 120 gr noslers it's taken 16 deer that never knew what hit them.
That's awesome! Point taken on the white claw part ;) Thanks for listening/watching!
250-3000 (250 Savage) and 243 were very close cartridges.
25-06 is a fine cartridge for sure, but when it comes to identifying a single all around cartridges, does anything really beat the .270?
Nope. .270 Win is God's caliber!!!
If you want something that will kill anything on the planet then a 300 win mag gets the prize. It bruises the shoulder tho, there's a price for everything.
yes
Yeah, the 7mm-08 does for sure. You get essentially the same speed with higher bc with less recoil, barrel length, and a short action. Is it as cool as the 270? No definitely not.
If you truly mean "all around" it's difficult to beat 30-06. Not knocking 270 but some big brown bears like to argue and 270 is in MHO a bit light(actually so is 30-06) for that. Just really need to figure what all around actually encompasses.
The rain man dropping his history nuggets
The .25-06 is essentially a .30-06 necked down to fit a .257 projectile. At one point, it was commonly used as a wildcat round and it does have a lot of capability for long range. At 1,000 yards, a few .25-06 rounds will hit 100 inches higher than a 7.62 x 51 round will.
6.5 creedmore is a dud for game hunting. 25-06 or 270 stomps the creedmore hands down
270. But, I wish it had faster twist rate. 1in 9 or 1 in 8.
I went to college with a dude that ran a .25-06. He made a custom stock for it and re-blued it. Looked and shot sweet.
Such a great episode , thanks !!!
270 winchester or the .35-06/.35 Whelen, Hell just do the whole 30-06 family.
I'd like to see one on the Whelen
Very versatile round, flat shooter, low recoil. 25-06 aka "The Meat Missile"
My first deer rifle I bought when I was 16 was a 700 bdl with a 26 inch bull barrel in 25 06.
Still have it. It is a tax driver.
so happy you guys did the 25-06 ive been waiting :)
also if you guys could do a little history lesson on the different 762x rounds aand their differences... I feel that would be interesting.
@@zachshuffield7765 Noted! :)
30-06 for Elk no exceptions. 25-06 for mule deer and .243 for Pronghorn and White Tail
Agree with your approach!
How’s the recoil on the weatherby?
@@nathanwebb4784 About the same as shooting a .270 Winchester. Out of the Mark V it's a breeze.
Pleasant, informative discussion. Thanks.
Love this channel, put Ryan on a shirt lol I could listen to him go on about calibers all day at work.
Excellent round. Love mine!!
🤜🤛
I bought mine used in 1996. Commercial Heym Mauser action built some time in the late 1950s.
The 120 Nosler partition will thump an elk with authority.
You just need a lot of barrel to get the most out of it.
I own 2 and love them. My Tikka T3 favors the 100 grain at 3,401 with RL 22. My Weatherby Vanguard favor the 115 & 117’s.
Love your pod cast keep up the great work
I have 2 Savage rifles in 25-06.
Back in the day the 257 AI was a popular deer cartridge that worked well. 120 grain and 100 grain bullets were popular.
85” coues whitetail 648 yards Ruger m77 mk 2 25-06 120 gr Rem core Loc
Love the 25-06. Have one in a Marlin XL7. Wish y'all would have a discussion about the 338RUM. If you have please send me a link to it
I have a 25-06 and it’s been great. Hopefully the 25 Creedmoor brings on some 125-130 grain bullets. Have thought about rebarreling it to a 6.5-06 A square. Do you guys think this caliber will be revised with the whole 6.5 craze? Ps great videos so far.
Check out the 6.5 PRC it’s basically a ballistic match! I’ve read it’s super accurate!
They both shoot like lasers.
great info on this round. I have a lovely 25 WSSM, which has been totally maligned. Love to hear your thoughts.
The 25 WSM has nothing on the 25/06 rem. Like 2 peas in a pod.
Do 257 Roberts one of the best most under rated calibers!
Deer won't know the difference between 257 Roberts +P and 25-06. Neither will you.
My first centerfire was 25-06 and it still gets the job done if and when I want it too 40+ years later.
Love to see 280 Remington.
Noted!
Definitely show some love to the 280 Rem 👍🏻
Yes please , show that .280 Remington some love ❤️
Definitely do 280 Remington
I have a .25-06 and .280 rem...it's the westerners 2 gun dream team imo.
Like to see 260 Rem talk about? Why is it the red-headed stepchild!
WHAT ABOUT THE 264 WIN MAG
@@davidorpwood8433 No kidding, anything any caliber can do the .264 Win Mag can do better. I have a custom .264 built on an old commercial Mauser action with a 28" barrel and it's been killing game and driving tacks for decades before I was even born. Taking it Nilgai hunting in December and it's going to claim another species. And while we are talking about it wheres the .220 Swift love??? those 2 calibers are the most under rated in history.
@@luchacefox259 that's what I was saying .so true .
Shhhh cant me tion those.calibers now those creeedmor boys might get their feeewlins hurt
We need a straight wall rifle cartridge talk! .375 Winchester!
Highly recommend the 25-06. I loaded some 100 Grain Swift Scirocco II, RL 22, @ 3,410 chronograph. The bullet is tough, high BC and shoots 1/2 MOA out of my Tikka T3 with a 22.5” barrel.
Can we hear a full podcast on the .243?
What are your thoughts on 25-06 vs. 22-250? Tons of deer have been taken with the 22-250....... And it has higher BC right?
The problem with me and the 25 - 0 6 is that I already have a 65 creedmoor, 270, 30 - 06 and have everything that I need in the 270 so I'll probably never buy one for that reason. Otherwise it's a really cool round. I shot a buddy's rifle and it is all that Ryan said. Pretty darn flat shooting. Thanks guys
Love the Spam on the shelf! Great video!
