Don't mix up an individual assessment with an average rating. The saying means the former, but an average rating is something completely different with at least somehow objective criteria.
This Andrew guy gave an explanation how the criteria of his own rating are, considering what other people might rate him for. And he explained that his wife has a very different individual view with different criteria and a better outcome for him.
I even believe the fat woman that there are a few people who are into her, people have strange fetishes and that's fine. I've experienced that myself, I've been stared at by a very good looking woman clearly out of my league in a business meeting. I've approached her at break time and she told me she was fascinated by my veiny hands. For her that somehow was attractive, still doesn't change that I'm an average guy who is mostly invisible to women and that the obese woman will be seen as being disgusting by most men.

I think of this rating scale (which is esoteric, but decent for quantifying opinion) the way I do statistics. In statistics, there is no such thing as true 0% or true 100%. You can just get infinitely close to either end. That is how I consider 1 and 10 (my scale goes from 1 to 10. If it starts with 0, replace the 1 with 0). I never call someone a 1 or a 10 because 10 would imply absolute perfection and 1 would imply absolute imperfection. There is no way for a person to become more or less attractive on the respective ends of the scale. But humans are imperfect by nature and people can always be prettier or uglier. So I refer to people on extreme ends of the scale that are infinitely close to 1 or 10 as sub 2s and 9+s respectively.
