New Shocks & Full Jeep Gladiator Exhaust, Are they a Noticeable Improvement?

  • These might be the last big upgrades for our Jeep Gladiator for a while!!!
    Ive had these shocks and exhaust parts for a few months now, waiting for a good time to make some videos for you guys.
    Well, i think i found a fun way to turn this into a video!
    Cassie is gone for the weekend, so the plan is to install the shocks and full exhaust on the JT. Once she gets back, we will see if she notices a difference in how it drives and handles!!
    After i installed everything, i took it for a test drive myself...
    The Teraflex Falcon shocks are amazing on this Jeep. The body roll is gone, handling has improved alot (It actually drives straighter since the body isnt rocking), and they provide a nice firm ride without being too stiff. The adjustments are very nice, especially on this truck.. I noticed a major difference in the ride when i installed the rooftop tent and rack on the bed. On top of that, when the bed is loaded down, the ride gets too soft in the rear. The Falcon shocks will allow us to stiffen up the rear end with the quick adjust feature on the 3.3s. I have these shocks on the JK, and i have loved them, so im sure ill continue to be happy with this choice down the road
    I then installed the Downpipes (Headers), and Y pipe from AFE power. These things look amazing, the welds are beautiful, and the piping and bends are a major improvement over stock.
    Right off the bat, the sound is so much deeper, not raspy, but truly deeper with a very aggressive tone.
    The power difference is clearly felt in the lower RPMs, continuing up to 3K RPMs.
    I did a 0-60 test, and found out it didnt improve. It could have been from a few factors.. Warmer ambient temp, break in of the new Catalytic convertors, ECM relearn time, or just the fact that the power added was not seen in a 0-60 test since that is all top end performance.
    Overall, the shocks are amazing, and the exhaust power and sound is clearly noticeable when daily driving. Hopefully we can get the JT on the dyno sometime soon!
    Thanks for watching!!! See you guys soon

    You need a tune for exhaust mods to make a difference in performance. MPG might be better and sound will sound louder. But you have to tune to get the engine improvements.

    I have the AFE y pipe paired with the AWE Tread single exit exhaust. Its a match made in heaven for the 3.6 Gladiator. AWE already has a great tone and the AFE y pipe made it slightly deeper and snappier up high in the revs. I can attest that the mid level torque bump is real and day to day driving feels improved. Also have the mishimoto intake. Unfortunately with 22’ Mojave no simple dealer friendly tuning yet.

    In your case u r trying to align the pipe geometry & they used a water slide method to hve gentle curve & end up where they need the pipe to tie n. The other way is a coaster barrel roll like a jet plane. A straight run would b to tie a curve & limit flow but if piping was flex kind, see dryer vent flex vs ac duct tubing, & can do a barrel roll a twist to get the end pipe tight run u need.

    • @jamesmerkel9442
      @jamesmerkel9442 4 года назад

      If the exhaust rated flex piping could twist to make the run in tight space w/out any sharp curves, then u rap the flex piping w/sealant painting or taping your done, no water slide odd custom piping for every blood car make & model engine & diff yrs of engines. Way easier, faster, twist flex piping to plumb damn near any make or model, & just rap it up to finish it off,simple. Again not just your job, but every car made or already made straighter run more power, better performance, easy cheap up grade, & we save fuel guess pollution too(who cares). Tech will save planet what ever engine u drive.

  • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
    @Fix_It_Again_Tony 4 года назад

    Shocks are velocity sensitive. They resist movement with more force as the shaft speed increases. When you are complaining about the side to side sway of the Fox, I think that comes down to low speed damping. When you say you hit a bump and they firm up, now you are in high speed damping. I think mid speed is more in the brake dive/chassis roll during evasive maneuver territory, but I could be wrong.
    I does sound good. Jeep actually went to the trouble to equalize the length of the tubes for each bank. If the flow has increased the ECU might take some time to adjust to the new exhaust. The change in exhaust can affect multiple ranges of RPM differently. This might be why it feel more torquey at low to mid RPM, but it timed slower on 0-60 because you are up in the high RPM range there and the ECU needs to adjust the air fuel ratio to the increased airflow. Who knows what is really going on in the ECU. Tuning it might be the best way to make sure it's running how you want.

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  4 года назад +1

      Your correct with all of that! The fox shocks are a progressive valved shock, like you said they dampen depending on velocity. I’m just not a big fan of the valving of them on this Jeep.

  • @dk12811

Most of what my family and I do now is 90% on the road and 10% on the trail. I’m looking for the best on-road ride and hanging I can get. the reason u lost power, #s has to do w/ the factory has dialed in the stuff they use to save money but also to math out the exact spec for back flow & then they custom order it up & get it built for them. The only way to beat them on exaust is a header kit real world better air flow or shorter run, or free flowing mufflers. THAT is it, big is heavier, & wt effects performance more than any thing else.

      @@JKGearandGadgets Ben I love the channel but If I spent $1500+ and a long afternoon to install I'd probably say I noticed something too (kinda like how a newly washed car drives faster). Cassie said there was something different initially because of the different exhaust note. AFE's dyno curve is done with the stock JK cat back and they are getting +10HP at 4800rpm. You're gonna get that with a good CAI and cat back. If you look at their dyno curve you are getting maybe +2 HP and +2fp torque at 3000rpm and there is no way you can feel that at the pedal. I talked about them some in the video I did about lightbars. I installed them on my JK, they are amazing! Highly recommend

    I have the Clayton 3.5” lift as well. Did you use the Falcon 3.5-4.5 as mentioned in the video? Or the Falcon 2-3 that is linked in the description?

      They must have updated the link or something! I used the 3.5-4.5

    Great Video. How is the durability on the falcon shocks how often do they need a rebuild? Why not go with king shocks or icon?

    Hi, did you find the setting (both shaft and click adj) on the Falcon SP2 3.3's that best suited your daily driving style without being too harsh? Curious if you felt like these paired better or worse than the Fox 2.0's with the Clayton Springs? Thanks!

    So what are you going to do with those old Fox shocks? Would they fit on a 2011 JKU? Dude your wife is the greatest! I wish mine was in to the Jeeps like yours. Good luck with your move!

    Two mods Im seriously considering. I tow at 4000lb travel trailer, would you say the Falcons would help with body roll while towing? I find the Fox Rubicon shocks a little on the soft side. Any updates on the downpipe/y pipe? Thanks

    Sounds great, so how much better will the power be off-road? Like she said, she could feel the power in the low end! Are you going to install an iDrive?

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  4 года назад

      I think it will be an improvement. The low end will be nice on the trails. Hoping to get out and hit the trails soon!

    Is the front end of your gladiator higher? Or is it just your camera that makes it look like that?

    • @JKGearandGadgets
      @JKGearandGadgets  4 года назад

      I think it’s just the camera angle or driveway angle
