The Gold Standard of Shock Absorbers for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator - OHLINS

  • When it comes to shock absorbers, everyone's got an opinion as to what's best but if there's one brand that I've found to have the most enthusiastic and loyal fanbase and all around the world, it'd be Ohlins. For over 40 years, this Swedish company has been an industry leader in dampening technology for motocross, rally racing, open wheel racing, mountain bikes, high performance vehicles of all makes and models and now, they're making their highly sought after gold shocks for the Jeep JL Wrangler, JK Wrangler and JT Gladiator. And, as luck would have it, Cindy and I were given a set for our 392 Rubicon and for the purposes of testing and review. Needless to say, this video will give you a closer look at what some consider to be the gold standard of shocks and to show you what it takes to get them installed.
    You can see more pics of these Ohlins shocks installed our 392 as well as all the mods we've done to date here: www.wayalife.c...

    I am glad to see Ohlins making itself known to the Jeep world !!! I own a Cannondale Mountain Bike along with my Brother and we ride and we've had every name shock manufacturer that's built for Mountain Bikes Ohlins are hands down the industry best shocks whether it is for a Jeep or Subaru or Motorcycles and Bikes. Pricey YES but they are well worth it !!!

    Ohlins is a big name in the motorcycle world. If you are not into bikes then no reason to be embarrassed. They are outstanding quality. Also a very small company. Valving and rebuilds are very dependent on the US importer for parts. Not many shops work on these. Parts availability is hit and miss.

    Look great. Will def have to look into price point va competitors. I do have to say, the adjustment on the bottom seems a little annoying having to use an Allen. Wonder how they do vs a Falcon or a King. Falcon adjustment seems a little easier but I guess I don’t know if those only do compression or comp and rebound. Great vid, look forwards to the review.

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +2

      Again, that lower adjustment is for rebound and to the best of my knowledge, this is something that is NOT offered on Falcon or Fox and even Kings or at least, not unless you get their triple bypass shocks and they come with their own set of clearance issues. Trust me, I run them on my other rigs. Also, the adjuster needs to be small and out of the way to prevent potential damage from rocks.

      From what I have seen, most lift coils provide MORE lift than what is advertised. As in, you might end up with a Jeep that is sitting ass low by doing this. Typically, a front end will sag about 1" after the installation of a heavy bumper and winch and adding 1" coil spacers IS the best solution to fix this. It's what I've done for years on multiple Jeeps and if there's actually something "iffy" about it, that would be news to me.

      ACCUAIR is a complete suspension system and one that gives you a lot of options. These are just shocks and and designed to give you an optimal ride with the 2"-3" or 3.5"-5" suspension system that you already have installed.

    Do you think they will work well with my AEV heavy springs (blue ones).
    Would I be better off changing to 3.5” Teraflex springs as well?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  7 месяцев назад

      AEV springs tend to be stiff as they are designed to hold up a lot of weight. TeraFlex coils typically are stiff as well. These shocks are designed to work best with standard coils which are softer. Also, the shocks we got were made for 3.5"-4.5" of lift.

  • @TheRambler-pz1gx
    @TheRambler-pz1gx Год назад

    Very cool, but the "10 clicks" or "20 clicks" is dumb. They need to get a better way to adjust these with actual visual numbers. We are not all pro set up people. TF Falcon shocks have this, and I would not put them on the same level as Ohlins in the shock space.
    Anyhow another great video!

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  Год назад +4

      To be fair, unlike Falcon's that only have a handful of big adjustments you can make, these Ohlins offers a ton of fine tuned adjustments, hence, the 10, 20, 30 or even more click. At that range, there's only so many numbers you can put on a knob for you to see. Also, the Falcon's do not come with rebound adjustments and due to it's location, I don't think you'd want a big knob there that could easily get knocked off by a rock. But, I get your point.

    • @TheRambler-pz1gx
      @TheRambler-pz1gx Год назад

      @@wayalife Fair point. These shocks are very nice. V2 I bet they refine the adjustment knobs. Maybe they can make a tool that has a plate with a through hole, and tic marks, and the tool its self has a finger on it that when you rotate it aligns with the tics on the plate. Kind of like an old analog torque wrench.

    I have a 2021 Gladiator diesel with a RLD shell and rack and some bolt on rocker bars that go over the factory ones. With some load in addition I am finding that the vehicle has noticeable rocking side to side when on uneven pavement, not even offroad. I am thinking I need stiffer springs and maybe shocks changed but really don't want a lift or only a minimal lift because I still run the factory 33 inch tires and will go up only to 35 inch once these wear out. Watching some of your shows I am assuming you are in CA. Can you recommend a suspension shop in CA that could do the work?

    • @wayalife
      @wayalife  7 месяцев назад

      Based on what you've described and what you're wanting to do, I would first start by installing a heavy duty rear sway bar. That should help to reduce the roll feel that you have. If after that you're still unhappy, I would then install new shocks as the factory ones are way too soft in my opinion. As far as shops go, if you're willing to make the drive out to Hanford, CA, I would recommend Disciple Off Road. Ask for Jeremy and please let him know that I sent you.
