I like them because the eye where the line ties on keeps the jig level, and the hook curves up, so if it drags over a branch in the water it will not hook it a lot of the time. I don't like that they are so light it's hard to cast it out very far. I'll get one of those weighted bobbers and try that.

I bought a ton of them after seeing some youtube videos. Never caught anything with them in my homewater. Although i think with that weighter float they may fish better than with the float trout magnet sells specifically to be used with those micro jigs.

I love Trout and Panfish Magnets. That same brown color he is using here has worked great for me. I have caught trout, bass, crappie, bluegills/panfish, and catfish on them in bodies of water from small community fishing lakes and ponds, to creeks and rivers. I use a smaller unweighted bobber and an ultra-light setup.

I use these all the time! Favorite color is white! And I almost always hook just the tiniest price of worm on the hook! Absolute killer! I’d give a little advice though, that bobber looked a little bit to big, I’d recommend the trout magnet bobber, always done good for me

If your having issues with you hook set, flip you bobber... Old timer showed me it crappie fishing years ago, made all the difference in the world. Also adds alittle more side action if you do any twitching with the magnet coming off the lead free end.. Proved equally effective with trout

I agree with you 100% on the Weighted Foam Cigar Bobber,
I only use those bobbers(unless im going for catfish/bowfin) because while resting vertically its easiest to differentiate between types of bites. Also because of sleek shape it gives little resistance to a fish pulling it under, so you almost never get fish spitting out before you set the hook. Also love how easily they move in the water, so you can use them for fresh bait or artificial.

One of my favorite fish! I use a fly rod with a floating, Knudsen Spider in yellow or black, and a strip retrieve on the surface. But they will also hammer small spinners on the surface, which is what I have my nephews use. Hopefully WDFW won't screw us over on the season next summer because it was closed until Sept 16 this year.

Used these with crazy success. Newly opened stocked pond, I arrived late and still caught the first 2 fish over 30 other people. Also, for flouro, I recommend the San Diego jam knot. It is tested and proven to be one of the few that can keep the full test weight on the line with better over every knot.

I have used these for around 15 years, most effective with rainbows in WV. We used to steelhead fish in Erie, PA and had alot of success with gold colored bodies...even on days where nothing else worked, we caught them with gold and pink trout magnets. We also straight jigged (no float) and found the steelhead were much more aggressive toward the magnet. The straight jigging only worked well in the less rough or almost still water. I have a trout magnet kit in every vest and box.

I use them for panfish trout bass steelhead and even surf perch. They are deadly when twitched like your twitchin for salmon same concept. I've used them float fishing fishing for skinny water steel. You can also use the jig heads and pair them with 3 inch power worms and swim and twitch them back and or use a float for trout in creeks rivers or lakes.

I even use the tiniest one on a fly rod with a strike indicator. Never used a weighted bobber. I believe they have become so popular that my best luck with them is in areas not heavily fished. That could be just 50 yards away from the well known pools. In a pond, I sometimes use ultra lite spinning equipment and put two on line. Spacing them about 18 inches apart and using two different colors. the creek I fish most of the time is single hook and barbless which really challenges your skill to land a trout, especially when you have one that wants to jump a bunch or run straight at you. TM work along with the mouse tails too. Thanks for sharing and very good info too. They do suggest that you keep the TM straight on hook and bring the hook end out between the split tail.

I wrap floss on the jig hook shank, apply super glue to the thread floss, then slide the plastic body in place to keep the body secure. Another way is to apply a dab of hot melt glue to the hook shank, then slide the magnet body on over the shank and glue dollup so the magnet body will grip better and stay in place after a strike. A third way is to use a UV light and the special super glue that is activated by the UV light. Do this at home and you will find you can spend more time fishing and less time fussing with baiting your hooks.

Love trout magnets - I stick with natural colors 90% of the time, and go to chartreuse the other 10%. I've tried the pink stuff, and the double colors, but the single color naturals (brown, pumpkin green, black, white, and smoke) outfish the wild stuff by far.
Being in Oregon, we have to be careful which streams you use these on, because most streams have bait bans, and Oregon in its infinite wisdom sees soft plastics like these as "bait" and not a lure, so I don't fish these in streams much except in a handful that allow bait fishing. They work really well on trout in those streams - but they work even better targeting bluegill, crappie, and yellow perch in ponds and lakes. I typically fish 2 or 4lb line or a 2-4lb bumper with 10lb braid, and I fish a two-jig setup with different color bodies on each jig, 12-18 inches apart. I usually use Thill's quill type floats, or the smallest Aero float, pinching on a couple BB shot if necessary for balance.
Drift fishing like this - you don't really need to add any action - the current will jiggle the setup plenty - think of it like a fly fisherman drifting nymphs or wet flies. For pond/lake fishing I cast, let it sit, twitch, and pause. This is a killer setup for trout in the high mountain lakes too. Best trout I've caught on these was an 18 inch cuttie that actually came out of Takenitch down on the central coast, but I've done really well in the coast range mountain lakes and some up on Mt. Hood on the typical 10-14 inch fish.
When the fish are hungrier, Leland makes the larger "Crappie Magnet" which is the same lure just upsized and fished on 1/32 or 1/16th ounce heads.

I just fished the ca sierras for the trout opener and used a 1/64 ounce jig head and just cheap bass pro crappie max grubs in pink and slayed harder than anyone using bait! Plus they are lipped everytime so I released hundreds of stockers over 6 days. Had a fly guy tell me “it’s not hard to catch these planters” while he caught one to my ten fish. He walked off after that. Lol. Oh the trick was using a bobber. Everyone with me thought I was nuts but by mid day the first day of fishing everyone was using one.

That bobber... so many in my city can afford the penny bobber and it gets so many fishing. That’s good. I’m sure it helps promote connection to nature and a sense of conservation when stepping over spent Cheetos bags. It’s just that it’s the most common lead + foam bobber I find downriver in the snags.. Glad your mustad redesign is moving toward balsa. Balsa not only fishes better but is better for the river.
