Awesome video man! Thanks so much. As an avid angler of near 30 years, I still like to watch your channel and pick up on things, especially when I'm getting skunked lol. I have never seen anyone use split shots on the tag end as a Carolina Rig cheat! I had a few thoughts geared toward brand new anglers while watching your vid, and I'd like to just leave them here for whoever it may help.
    1) There's nothing wrong with how that Rainbow was handled, but nets are really, really great for you and the fish. This was a catch clean cook video, so no big deal, but if you are NOT planning on killing your catch, you should avoid handling trout, specifically,as much as possible. Ideally, a trout you plan to release should be netted, and remain in the net AND in the water while the hook is removed, and be returned quickly to the water to reduce stress and chance of death after release.
    2) Trout like to SWALLOW Powerbait on Baitholder hooks! If you are NOT planning on killing whatever is on the other end of your line, either use a circle hook instead of a baitholder hook, or don't use Powerbait. It's not too often I've had to pull a spinner's treble hook or a jig hook from deep in a trout's throat, and they are arguabley more fun ways to fish.
    3) The cleaning method shown here is effective, but there is an alternative way to know. I bleed my fish(immediately after catching) while it is belly up by inserting my knife through the gills and cutting the main artery in its throat. Then I cut along the belly like in the video. Then, I push down against the tongue to insert my knife point in the membrane under the jaw from the bottom of the fish. I cut through the skin so I can grab the tongue from the OUTSIDE of the mouth(still belly up.) Pull down. Toward the tail and all of the guts and gills will come away in one shot! Then run your thumb along the kidney(the bloodline against the spine) as shown in the video and wish out the cavity and bam! Done.
    4) IF YOU DON'T LIKE SLIME, STOP TRYING TO WASH IT OFF. DRY THE FISH INSTEAD. Dry it with paper towel and keep it dry while you clean it. Fish will CONTINUE to make slime as long as they get wet, even if they are dead! It's their immune system.
    5) Finally, my trout recipe is SPG, fried in butter in a pan, and lemon juice near the end(throw those squeezed lemon slices in the pan for good measure). Pro tip: if you cut the head and/or tail off before cooking, you can easily see the meat in the cavity change color as it cooks. It will become more white, and that white meat should rise up toward the middle as each side cooks. That's a good way to know when to flip it! As a rule of thumb, 5 mins/side on med-high heat. Trout is best enjoyed NOT overcooked, and if you like crispy skin, pan fry it, don't wrap it in foil, because the foil traps the steam and prevents the skin from crisping up!
    Tight lines everyone!

Imo, the EASIEST rig you can possibly make is a size 6 bait hook and a split shot weight a foot or so above the hook. Mould a portion of powerbait that's slightly smaller than a marble around the entire hook and that's it. This is my go-to since it requires 0 effort, and from my experience, it works all day. If the bite slows down transitioning from early morning to day, you'll wanna move around and find deeper, calmer waters, and I guarantee you'll keep catching till you can't no more. Just used it on my last trip and me and my buddies caught 15 total in just a few hours; we stopped because we reached the legal limit. You don't needa do nothing extra or fancy, because at the end of the day, all they really want is something to eat.

I just realized that Jordan’s body is completely affected by fishing patterns. Hes gotten pretty thin this summer, probably from all the hiking and fishing there is to be done and he looked a little heavier in the winter/spring vids. Just like a fish. Happens to me too; always difficult to stream fish with an ice fishing body come mud season 😂

Thank you for this awesome video! I'm sad to say that I'm a 57 y/o native Oregonian that really didn't know what he was doing until your videos. Today I caught a nice lunch of a 12" and 13" rainbow. Cleaned them as per this video. Then I even cooked them per this video (with slight adjustment of seasonings). The wife and I love it! The onions in butter are a nice compliment to the trout. Did them up on my pellet grill at 335 deg for about 20 min in foil just as you did. Amazing! May have to go fishing int the morning again as it will be my last chance for some time. Keep up the great work!

If you run your knife right under the mouth there’s a a little web like a bottom check, cut that and it looks like another mouth it exposes the tongue and throat, put your pointer finger in that slit down the throat and your thumb into the top of the belly cut, grab tight and pull, all the guts gills come out in on move, way more efficient way to remove guts and gills,, nice video!
