Great video. To this day, I'm still not certain on the tuning. I know it was open G, slowed down to open F on the tape. But I've read two different versions. Some say it's the classic version of open G that almost everyone uses: DGDGBD. Heck, some even remove that sixth string so the root is the lowest string. This slows down to CFCFAC, like your video. Others claim it's a bit weirder, less traditional open G: GBDGBD, which drops to FACFAC. In this, you get the full major chord twice across the strings, and the root is on that sixth string. I think Sped Spedding claims this one in his video. If only Mr. Page would tell us!!!
Howard, Thank You for this awesome lesson. I've messed around with this in standard tuning but I've never played in open F before. Open E, G, D, DADGAD, and Drop D. I have a feeling I'll be learning something in open A soon. Page sure played a lot of different tunings. That rain song tuning was very strange indeed. I don't even know if there's any other tunes in that tuning. But you sure make these lesson easy. Thanks again. Peace.. Joe
You got that vibrato with the slide down pretty damned good. Sounds good, bro. I've been a guitarist for over 40 years, but I have rarely ever practiced with a slide. I cannot make it sound as cool as you do.
Most of the "open major chord tunings" are finger friendly for sure. There might be subtle differences in the overall sound and tone... but still pretty do-able
Thanks for the lesson, really helps! Quick question please, at 5:45 when hitting open A, is it possible to retune the bottom E (which is unused throughout) to a note that would replicate the harmonic of the twelve string?
Interesting question... What I used to do live (but didn't mention in the lesson) is to simply play the harmonic at the 12th fret, 5th string each time before hitting the chords. It actually sounds pretty cool :-)
Typical Jimmy riff easy catchy, such a great track loved it way back
Toataly toatall awesome thanks from Warren 😎
The best lesson. Nice work
Kick ass! Thank's

Awesome brother!Thank you😎🎸
If you have a drum set it’s fun to back yourself up while playing this with just a kick drum. Really captures the vibe of this song.
Awesome, man - thank you!

Glad it was helpful :-)
got to admit open f sounds pretty heavy
In open D with capo on 3rd fret could you play the same licks only on different strings?

Ukulele tuning is F C F A
or....as Howard says: play it as you feel it!! great lesson!!
Thanks!
That sounds awesome, what amp/ effects are you using?.....great sound
It's really just a solid dose of gain via my Mesa/Boogie DC-3, and if I remember right... a bit of verb as well. Thanks so much for watching :-)
@@247GuitarwithHowardHart aahhh Mesa! Says it all, it really has a way of defining each string when driven.
Man you rock. Thx for the vids.
Thanx! And thank you for watching :-)
Nice.
Right on! Thanks
