I just started homeschooling and my son is in 9th grade. We did the accredited version and it’s killing me so far. Hoping it gets better as we go on.

I completely understand how you feel! 9th grade is intense! We are still trying to find a good daily routine with managing sports and other extras! Just take it one day at a time!

How does 9th grade work load compare with work load for earlier grades? My son now in abeka 6th grade.

@Whiskers Redwood My daughter will be in 7th grade in August, I heard they step it up a notch that year. I'm very cautious with what I add in with her but we do plan to do spanish one day a week. I'm just waiting to see how much more difficult it's going to be. I love abeka though and my daughter did 5 months of public school with straight A's and got bored so I know Abeka does an excellent job. Not sure if that helps.

I'm an Abeka Fan. We've used it for years and I'm considering using a portion of it this year as well. It's our first year having a high schooler so...Here We Go!!! I wish you a wonderful year. 🌻

It’s my first year homeschooling a high schooler too! It can be very overwhelming! But I think we are finding our balance! Abeka is so far great for freshman year. We really like the science and algebra teachers since we do the DVD’s! I hope you have a great homeschool year!

How does it work with you doing a 4 day week due to co-op? How do you make up that day without going over 34 extra days at the end of the year? (We don’t want an extra month of school🥴) Asking because our public schools here went to a 4 day week so, naturally, my kids want to do the same. Just looking at different options to fit the 5 days of work into 4 without overloading them too much and making them despise it😅

Hi! To make up the co-op days is really optional for us. The state of Ohio requires 900 hours of homeschooling time for the home school year and co-op counts as homeschooling hours. We are not a Abeka accredited, but we will be next year. However, we have completed the 170 lessons many times. We will start a month before the CC starts. Our local CC doesn’t go very long. They take about two months off for Christmas and they are usually done by April whereas we go to the end of May or the middle of June. We also do not take off some holidays so we make up the Abeka work on those days. I’ve also heard of people making it up on a Saturday. If your state goes to four days a week and you’re not accredited, I would just do school those four days a week and check your states homeschooling hours to make sure you get your hours in. I heard of some states going into four days of school each week. I do have some friends that homeschool their kids and only do four days a week but if you are accredited with Abeka then you may need to do the five! I hope this helps!😊
