This is great for newbies and exactly where I started with KDP. Notebooks are a brilliant way to learn your KDP craft and this video explains the process beautifully! ❤️
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your comment 😃😀
Hello! Please how can I contact you? For clarification please.

This is great for newbies. We all have to start somewhere to learn the process and THEN move on to more complex projects.
Thank so for your support Ashley!
Exactly !
when you want to add lines onto the pages go to template, type in teacher and the first template was a page of lines with 2 objects that I clicked on and deleted. That left just the lines so it was much easier than doing individual lines
Oh great - thanks for the tip!! 😃
Another great tip might be to measure the space between lines and use that when making your page. Some Amazon buyers complain that lines are too narrow.
Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for this simple step-by-step tutorial. I followed your instructions and am about to upload my first notebook. It was easier than I anticipated. Thank you!!
You're welcome! 😀
Hi! Thank you so much for all the awesome information. I am a newbie at the KDP but not to Canva. You may already know this but just in case you don't and for all the newbie Canvas users. You can click in the lower right hand corner where it will show you all of your pages, highlight the the first 10 and then right click, it will bring up the option to duplicate however many you selected. Just a time saving tip. Hope this helps. Again thank you for all of the valuable information.
Thanks so much for the tip!! 😃
Thank the LORD! I figured it out! I was having that problem with uploading it for KINDLE. Paperback is working fine. Woohoo!
thankyou so much!!! My mum is not well, and her health concerns have chewed through her savings and left her unable to keep her current job. I have been searching for ways to help her generate some some passive income and the startup cost is often prohibitive. This tutorial is so generous of you, and will help me to help her get started, without the financial barrier. I have watched a days worth of your content today and am so grateful for your careful and clear guidance, when one of us rises, we all rise :D
Thanks so much, I hope you find my video's helpful!
Really good tutorial, fantastic for anybody starting on their KDP journey! Love your channel ❤
Thanks Nuria, really appreciate your support! 😀
This was so helpful. Thank you for taking the time to explain the entire process!
Glad you found it helpful, thank you! 😃
Thanks a lot .
Could you make more videos on selling low content books on KDP Amazon please?

Thank you for sharing 💖
Awesome video 🎥
I don't own a copy of Excel so I had to use Microsoft Excel online and it works fine
Good to know! 🙂
I’ve been binge watching many of your videos and I find them very helpful! I want to get started making books soon but there are a few things that I need to understand better before starting. One of these things that I’d like to learn more about is what Amazon considers duplicate content, and how to avoid getting in trouble with Amazon over duplicate content. For example, in a video that I watched, I heard that using public domain work is not recommended because it may lead to “duplicate content issues” with Amazon. I’m not exactly sure what was meant by this though. I don’t know if it has anything to do with people not modifying the work before posting it on Amazon, or if this type of content is just not acceptable at all. I wonder how Amazon’s duplicate content rules would apply to pictures.
I’d love some suggestions on where people who create KDP books get their images from.
In addition to this, I definitely need to figure out how image licenses work and how to properly research images before using them in a book. If I use them, I’m not sure if I have the right to modify them, or use them as is.
I really don’t know much about how any of this works, and I’m just not sure how to properly do the research. I’ve tried reading the terms of use in websites but they are always very long and confusing.
So, I’m hesitant to create anything until I know for sure how to avoid getting into trouble with copyright and trademark laws. I need to be clear about my rights to using an image, before I decide to use it.
It can be pretty confusing in my opinion. Even free images on Canva don’t seem to be guaranteed, as Canva states in their website “We can’t guarantee that any free images, music and video files have the appropriate releases for commercial use.”
Amazon allows the use of public domain works as long as you annotate, illustrate or translate it. In terms of images, yes the legal jargon can be confusing. If you are
concerned about understanding the licenses correctly, you can speak to an IP lawyer for clarification. Alternatively, you can create your own illustrations or hires someone to do it for you.
@@MyFreedomEmpire Thank you again for the reply! :) I guess I'm just trying to be super cautious before I create or submit anything. Since I'm just starting out, I can't afford to talk to any lawyers for advice or hire someone to create illustrations for me. I have to rely on free or affordable methods to get the images that I need.
I think the important place to start is to first find good websites where I can get images from, and to also understand image licenses and my rights to those images. I tried reading into the terms of use in these websites that offer images, but it turned out to be a very long reading and they use some terminology that I'm not yet familiar with. It was difficult to understand, but maybe I wasn't looking at the right thing. These websites can be very wordy and it's not always clear where to find the information that I'm looking for.
Also, I think I might have to research the meaning of individual jargon that they commonly use in order to hopefully break down the message better.
smart idea to draw line..thanks
I just started using Canva and your video is a great example and very well detailed, great video
Thanks so much! So glad you found it useful 😄
Sooo honest.. Sooo much value...again thank you
Thank you!
Great! Thanks!

This was so awesome, I created my books this morning using book bolt than I found your channel using Canva and didn't know that I could do the same with Canva for that I want to say thank you so much. Oh yes I subscribed and I surely hit that like button. Thanks again dol )
Thanks so much! Glad you got something out of this video 😀
@@MyFreedomEmpire Absolutely, I watched so much more of your video's you're awesome. I got 4 journals up waiting for the review for me to do a dance 😀. Thanks doll. Oh I think I saw a video you've done a while ago I can't find it. It was about buying a book which and using that same content but changing the cover I can't find it. I wanted to do something like as well however once it's done can it ne upload on KDP just the same as journals? Thanks an advance and thank you for reading your comments.❤😊
Thanku so much may god bless u

Another alternative of Adobe illustrator is inkscape, is a free open source vector graphics editor.
Excellent presentation! Super! Thank you very much.
You're welcome 😀
Thank you so much for the great insightful video
You can go to elements and type lines instead of making a line
Thanks for the tip 😀
Good Tips!!! Thanks 👏
great help for me :) wish you batter luck
Thanks so much! 🙂
First time seeing this process - thank you.
You're welcome! 😃
I got an error when I uploaded the cover on kdp. I defo used the correct format size 9.25 x 12.55 so not sure what’s wrong
My new forever friend. I have subscribed w/ thumbs up and bell on.
Thank you!
I love this channel and it is very informative. Can you please do a video on how to upload a journal on KDP. Thanks and keep up the great work :)
Thanks so much! I just uploaded a video on making a journal - is this what you mean or do you mean the process of actually uploading it into your KDP account?
@@MyFreedomEmpire the process of actually loading it up to your kdp account. The part I am struggling is how to find the classification of your journal. Such a newbie struggle 😂
Thank you for this demonstration 🎀

FREEDOM!! My name is Liberty! Love your name ! My freedom Empire!!! how much does amazon pay you for each notebook/low content book?? whats the commission rate? is it really worth it?? how do i promote my books once i make them??tysm
Hello and thank you! 😀 Amazon pays you a "royalty" for each book sold which they pop into your bank account when you reach a certain threshold. The commission rate is usually 60% of the sale price after printing costs. It can be worth it yes. It's not easy and it can take some time but you can build a really substantial income with self-publishing if you stick with it and find what works. In terms of promotion you can run Amazon ads, you can create social media channels and a website and promote through those channels, build an email list and promote books there. Hope that helps.
@@MyFreedomEmpire Great answer ... i was wondering about building an email list? when you sell a book through KDP do you get the customers email address or does KDP keep that private?
Thank you very much for this, I am learning how to use Canva and I absolutely loveit
You're welcome - glad you're loving Canva! 😄
Hi, This is a great video, I'm ready to jump into this waters, I have 2 questions:
1.- Do you recommend Book Bolt or Tangent Templates to start?
2.- About the author, do you recommend using your name or create one ?
Please continue to create great videos, thank you for your time and have a great day!
Thank you! I've never used tangent templates so can't really comment on them. Book Bolt don't have a huge range so I would just go with whoever has what you need and which ones look the most professional.
With the author name, it's really what suits you and how you want to run your business. If you want to be the face of your brand then use your own name. If you don't want your name to be out in the public - a lot of us as authors and publishers use pen names - then create an author name to publish your books under.
@@MyFreedomEmpire Hello there! Thank you for your amazing and thorough content! Can I ask what is a pen name and what an example of that would be? Wouldn't you have to see if a pen name is already taken to avoid legal problems? Sorry if it's a silly question.
Great video! I wish it showed where you went on the site to find those links, it was kinda fast.
nice
Great teacher。you are superb
Thank you! 😃
Hi when i was uploading the 120 page manuscript for amazon, there were errors in margin. How do i fix this in canva?
Mine too! Trying to figure out how to add margins...
Thanks for the video, I appreciate. The lines was finally dotted?
Amazing thank you !
Thank You so much!!
You're welcome! 😄
Great content as always!
Thank you so much, I appreciate your comment! 😃
This was so helpful! New Sub! 😊
Yay! Welcome and thank you ! 😀
Thanks for precious informations
An angelic face 🙈🌹
You're welcome 😃
thank you ! more please!?
You're welcome 😃 Yes, for sure!
Kdp is the best self publishing platform but marketing is the hardest platform. Your are making videos for yourself. I have uploaded many books on KDP.
Hi, great video! do you know how long time it takes Amazon to "review" the new book? It can take longer than 72 hours, right?
Yes, I've had books take a week to get reviewed. I don't think I've ever had a book reviewed within 72 hours lol 😄
Excellent share. TQ
Thank you 😀
Hey Caroline, first off, your videos are so so useful. Thank you for making them! I had a question about using free stock photos in canva. From what I understand, they are pulled from Unsplash and similar websites, correct? And Unsplash needs you to change up the photo and 'make it your own' such that there's a difference between that and the original photograph. In that case, is it okay to use the background images as-is (such as this marble background)?
Thanks so much! 😄 You would have to follow whatever the license of the photo says that you need to do. I'm not 100% sure where Canva gets the images from or their license requirements, I usually use other stock photo websites for images.
Hello thanks for this awesome video
I tried creating mine following your guide carefully but keep getting margin issues on cover and interior when I preview on my KDP previewer
Any recommendations pls
Hello, you're welcome. Another way it to use the line element instead of typing an underline.
This is incredibly helpful content!
Thank you - I hope so 🙂
@@MyFreedomEmpire You're welcome!
Thanks for the info. I'm not tech savvy so I've had problems in the past with templates in KDP with my paperbacks. Anyway, I'm going to try to create my first notebook. Can I use my own cover or KDP cover?
You're welcome! You can design, create and upload your own cover.
I am unable to find the Paperback Setup filter so I can't get onto the excel spreadsheet, I am getting to the point of creating a paperback cover but it's calculating right there any assistance would be appreciated. It's been quite an information thus far, thank you
Hi, I followed your instructions (neat) but when publishing, Amazon tells me there is "insufficient gutter" on the first 12 pages of my manuscript. Not sure why, or why they only point at the first pages. I made sure to follow the recommended page size, so the problem is not there. Any idea? Thanks for the help
Sometimes Amazon sees the lines as "words" but only on certain pages, I don't know why. If you are having issues, try creating the lines by using Elements > Lines and then expand the line across the page. Adjust to whatever colour and weight you want the line and then just copy and paste it until you have your page full of lines.
I’m having this same issue. KDP says I have to put it in Word to format the margins and gutters… it’s taken me a week and I still can’t seem to get it right…
@@MyFreedomEmpire I had the same issue but the elements line option worked. Thanks :0)
@@melanieberlier8487 SAME HERE:(
Same here 😟
I downloaded the setup guide, but my laptop automatically opens it with OpenOffice, even after I deleted it, and it does not display correctly, drop down boxes show error and I cant type in the values or it shows error as well, and cant interact with buttons 😕
Sorry, which set up guide are you downloading?
@@MyFreedomEmpire I'm sure its the correct one, I just put setup guide in Google and it popped up. It looks correct but the functions on it arent working, not sure if OpenOffice is the problem
@@MyFreedomEmpire I have resolved it. It seems OpenOffice cannot correctly open the setup guide. I went with WPS Office (free app) and it works perfectly
Thank you for sharing this great content!!! I have one question: what are t’he advantatges for having Canva Pro?
You're welcome 😄 You get access to more premium images and fonts to use in your documents. You get access to extra features like being able to create images with transparent backgrounds.
@@MyFreedomEmpire thank you for replaying! Actually, for commercial sellings is not allowed to use Canva Pro, is that right?
Please What's the action space between the lines? Thanks
I watched and followed every step now awaiting what will happen next. Please pray for me I need a second income. Single mom of three.
Awesome but no info on the finished product. Is it a paper back notebook? What does it look like???
For this video it was a paperback because at the time, that's all Amazon did. They now do hardcover too, but as mentioned this book was created as a paperback. They look like any other paperback book you see in shops or bookstores.
Please make some videos about ebook.
You make great content to help other,
There is no such good videos about ebook. Please make some.
I currently focus on low content books which can't really be made into ebooks.
Thank you for this. So informative
You're welcome!
Great content, thanks.
Thank you! 😀
Amazing video! Thank you. Do you definitely need text on the spine? Thanks!
Thanks 😀 No, I just like putting it there. It's also a good place to put text that you don't want on the front cover but want to include in your title field on your Amazon listing.
@@MyFreedomEmpire Thank you! Wasn't sure if this was a requirement from Amazon as I've seen it on other videos too but I prefer my spine to be blank I think x
@@MyFreedomEmpire Thank you! Wasn't sure if this was a requirement from Amazon as I've seen it on other videos too but I prefer my spine to be blank I think x
Thank you for the video. I created a notebook with the dimensions you gave us and after uploading it to KDP, it's saying I have 25 errors. It says: "This text is outside the margins. Learn how to change the margins in your original file." and also, "Insufficient gutter. Books with with 120 pages require at least 0.375" for the gutter (inside margin) and at least .25" for the outside, top and bottom margins. Learn how to change the margins in your original file. UGH I have no idea how to fix this.
Hello. Thank you so much for this video tutorial. I have been able to creat two low content books but KDP is rejecting my covers. This is one of the mails I received
Cover
Remove all template text and guides from your cover file.
Correct the typo in the title. Please compare the cover file and the title information you entered in the Paperback Details tab to make sure they both match.
And this is the second
Cover
Remove all template text and guides from your cover file.
I'm really confused and don't know what to do as I have tried severally with editing but I keep getting rejected. Pleas can you help with explanations.
Thank you once again.

I've created so many low content books and I luv it. but the only problem I'm having is making it a spiral notebook. every time I try the spiral notebook template, and after it generates, it cuts the cover in half and I have to customize the size which is no longer a spiral. How do I make my notebooks into spiral?? THANKS
You can't make spiral bound books through KDP. If you want to do spiral bound you'll need to look at a different company such as Lulu.
Great video, thanks a lot 👏🏻
You're welcome 😀
How do you set up in Canva for books where left and right pages need to be different i.e. no bleed on the inside of left hand pages (even numbered) and no bleed on the inside of right hand (odd numbered) pages. Does Canva have any automated settings to achieve that or is is it copy and paste alternate pages.
Your whole book needs to be set up for bleed even if you only have one page with bleed..
How to upload that cover letter and 120pages combine in kdp
The cover and interior get uploaded separately.
how to get keywords and title and how to publish on amazon thank you
I have Canva Pro and I can only do 100 pages.
Thanks for correcting me on that - you're right, 100 pages max regardless of membership.
Is it possible to create an unlined journal with kdp, I.e. a bunch of blank pages sandwiched between your cover?
Kind of. KDP doesn't allow blank pages so you'd have to put something on the pages. Maybe a border on each page or a little image somewhere.
The coverfile from KDP is too big to load to Canva: how do I make it smaller so I can use it in Canva?
I went online and used a website to compress the file then uploaded it to Canva.
As someone suggested, just search google for a website to compress the file, if you don't have a graphic design program to do it in yourself.
What is your opinion of a cover design that the public begins to recognize as "your brand?" Thank you for your time and shared knowledge.
I think if you can do this, that would be amazing. 😄
I saved the template in the download section of the files on my computer as a PDF, but there is message that says the file must be in a png or MPEG format. How do change it into one of those formats and save it in Google drive or through the downloads section of my computer and upload it to the Uploads and Images section on canva so I can transfer it onto the template?
Where is the message coming from saying it needs to be in png or mpeg? Is this something you are trying to open in Canva and it's not working?
followed these instructions almost exactly, just did 100 pages instead and got the correct cover template and when I try to upload to kdp is says there problems with the margins. I really don't understand why at all
Without knowing what the error margin says it's hard to let you know what's going wrong. If you want to let me know what error you're getting exactly I can try to help.
Great video - Thanks for the info :)
You're welcome! 😃
I’ve only recently discovered the low/ no content books on Amazon. How do they work for those who purchase them? Are they to be printed or do they download for digital use?
They are printed books.
Thank you so much for this. I'm a new subscriber. I'm new to this whole thing of low content books! However I have a question, I blindly copied what you did except for the cover. I realized that I did not put margins. Is that okay? I mean is it a new trend without margins? Will it be bought by people as it has no margins? 😅
I'm not sure what you mean by having margins on the cover. Covers are created differently to interiors so you don't use margins as such but you just want to make sure all your cover elements are within the areas where Amazon trims the book. It won't let you upload a cover where there are elements outside the trim anyway, so you would've got an error message if you had anything in the wrong spot.
Where did you down load it to once you finished doing the journal or notebook interior?
Thanks 👍👍👍 good job
Thank you! 😃
Can I use this paperback cover template for the content isnide the book? I have a book on how to make some things from the wood with pictures and description and I dont know which temaplate use as example
Thanks! What format and option you use when you finally download the cover from Canva? If it is PDF, which option in the list of the downlads
For better quality, you have to download as PDF print
Download as PDF Print.
Very informative but for a complete beginner, it is easy enough to understand but your cursor is difficult to follow when you move so fast. I find it hard to follow exactly what you are clicking on and lost it completely at the start. What did you click on to do the custom size?
Sorry about that. I sped the video up so it wouldn't be so long. In Canva, click Create a Design in the top right hand corner. A box will pop up, at the bottom of the box there is a plus sign saying custom size. Click that.
You could also download the 20 pages into 6 different files and merge them into 120 pages..much quicker.
But why 120 pages and not 200 pages for example. Is there any limitations on KDP?
120 is the average notebook size. There is no limit and you can go to 200, its honestly your choice. The notebook is just going to be a big thinker than usual and instead of a notebook, it'll look like novel so idk...its honestly up to you.
